The Ship Inn & Waterfront Restaurant in Dundee City

This is the second time I've had food here, both times did not disappoint! Food is fantastic. Will be back again.

Good seafront pub with a nice traditional decor. Stunning views in clear weather.

Fabulous location on the riverside. The pub scene in Broughty Ferry is very vibrant and The Ship is very much part of it! It was well supported by customers on my Saturday night visit. The Orkney - Corncrake was in top condition. This place is a must if you get the chance to visit, I will if I'm in the area!! Cheers 🍻

Friendly welcoming helpful staff on hand, in lovely surroundings in a great setting to present good quality food. Oh, and they really do get top marks for their bar service. A delight.

Oh, you won't believe how much I adored this place! I couldn't stop myself from visiting it again and again. And why wouldn't I? The "Fresh Scottish Mussels" were an absolute delight and the beautiful Tay in the background made it all the more special. I've also tried other dishes here like crab cakes and Cullen Skink, and let me tell you, they were beyond satisfactory! The service was nothing short of amazing, and Lynn deserves a special mention for being so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. If you're ravenously hungry, I suggest you go for a starter because the main dish might take a while, but trust me, it's worth the wait. And you know what? You simply can't visit Broughty Ferry without checking out The Ship Inn!!!

A lovely building dating back to 1847 right on the waterfront. Upstairs is a superb restaurant with a very good menu. Our meals were excellent with a bonus being that I was able to have a decent cask ale with my meal. Make sure you book though as the times on their website are not accurate. We went in one time at 8-10pm to be told that the kitchen was closed although the website says 9-30pm! The bar downstairs is comfortable with a choice of ales.

We booked here for Saturday 2nd of March , we arrived and they made out we hadn’t booked it , the man was very rude if we hadn’t booked why would we say we did .

Bitterly disappointed. Love Broughty Ferry and love the Ship. Tried calling to reserve a table three times but nobody picked up Came in tonight to see if any available tables but told they to busy. I asked why I couldn't book over the phone as nobody answering. I yet again was told to busy. I am puzzled how the were full when they only take phone or walk in reservation.... Good quality bar food served by pleasant efficient staff.

2nd visit in this wonderful place. Great food, excellent service and amazing view. Portions are really big and the prices more than reasonable. Cullen skink was really amazing, fish pie also delicious (my wife loved it) and fish & chips was very nice. Couldn't ask for something more.

Lovely, traditional pub,with a restaurant upstairs. The restaurant isn't very big, so make sure that you book, but the food is lovely and they had a proper beer on which made my partner very happy. The staff were really pleasant and efficient and it's quite reasonably priced. After we ate, we went downstairs into the pub,which was very traditional and also had a beer on,although it was really quiet. Definitely worth a visit.

Used to come here regularly and it was always something to really look forward to but the our last visit was disappointing, especially after bringing friends for their first experience. We had two servers during our stay, one was very nice and helpful, while the other made us feel like we were an inconvenience to her being there. All starters were good and served in a decent time. The mains weren't very impressive. The seafood pie (Special) was very poor, the fish felt as if it was frozen, there was no variety of fish or prawns but just the overwhelming taste of smoked haddock. The white sauce (Béchamel) was so thin and bland, the mash potato topping was lumpy and very watery like the potatoes hadn't been drained and dried enough, totally bland and unseasoned. In the end I only ate half of it. The tempura battered fish was also very bland and lacked any real seasoning or crunch. Desserts were better and tasty, the only criticism was that two of the desserts were served and we had to wait another 15 mins for the next two to be served. I understand that at the weekend a restaurant is going to be busy, and I understand that the restaurant is quite small but the noise in there was so loud which made talking to your dinner guests very difficult. All in all, it was a disappointing experience from what I remember from a few years ago and I doubt I will be booking again any time soon......What a shame.

Went for our work Christmas meal, food was delicious, portions were slightly too big so make sure you're hungry. Staff were lovely & friendly.

Excellent restaurant, with friendly staff and tasty food. I had the Fish pie which was so large it could have fed two people with veg on the side. Worth a visit every time when I am in the area and not to be missed.

Chicken & haggis served in small pasta type dish. Made for difficult eating. Veg barely warm and some hard. Very very noisy. Visited previously but this was extremely disappointing.

When I go to this restaurant I'm never disappointed Every thing is so fresh and well presented .Staff are excellent!

In with friends Saturday afternoon for drinks. Very busy only one member of staff serving drinks, poor woman. So a bit of a wait for service. Well stocked but expensive.

Echte pub waar goed voedsel en gezellige ambiance nog hoog in het vaandel staan. Mosselen zeer vers en smaakvol. Cullen Skink zeer lekker. Hele vriendelijke eigenaar.

Excellent restaurant above busy pub. The food is high quality (and the portions defeated us - try the seafood platter, just great); the decor and buzz of the restaurant give it a great atmosphere. Staff were quick and friendly. Well worth a visit but I think booking is probably a good idea.

Good food and service, there was a noisy table in when we arrived, thankfully they left later. Cullen skink was delicious and the coffee pannacota was tasty but no wobble.

Dropped in here on recomendation of a friend and was absolutely brilliant. Food was prepared with an awful lot of care and tasted absolutely amazing. Would definitely come back

Starter was good but we had ordered Salmon steaks, they were RAW in middle, asked to get it cooked, they send it out after being micro waved with nil fir presentation Complained and owner Steve was rude and failed to deal with issue. Instead simply stated not happy don’t bother come back. This is after being loyal for over 20 years. Worst meal in my living memory and pathetic customer service Don’t go there I my recommendation,,,

I have bee here for food many times but not sure about what happened today as the food was under parr. My foid was blank no seasoning very big salad ,infact ,too much and my son's tempura sea bass was not good at all . My partner likes fish and chips but it was just mediocre so dont think we'll be back soon Linda Thomson

The place is located front sea. With amazing view on Dundee. Food and drinks were on pair with very good pub. Enjoyed the sträck pie and the duo fish and chips. Highly recommend for a nice and lovely lunch

I got a seafood platter. I was unable to differentiate between the taste of said seafood, and the amount was like a child's portion. Was very disappointed.

Been a while since we last had a meal out with friends here and definitely not disappointed. Meal was excellent as were the lovely views over the Tay. Staff welcoming and friendly, not over intrusive whilst serving or taking orders. Defo be back soon.

Went in for some food and a drink in the bar on a wet Tuesday lunchtime. Their Cullen Skink was just wonderful, as was the 80/-. Service was excellent. A very cosy and lovely place. 100% recommend!

Lovely views, friendly and accommodating staff, perfect food. What more can I say? Always amazing food and service here. A must visit when in Dundee or Broughty Ferry. Bar downstairs with a bar menu and then the main restaurant upstairs with a separate menu. Be sure to book though as it's a busy wee place!

Staff was nice, sat outside, great views. Glasses were a bit dirty but still usable.

We got the window seat on a beautiful evening so we were half way there, then the food arrived and that completed a lovely meal out.

Amazing food and service. I brought my cousin and friends here and they were very impressed. If you haven't been to the restaurant yet, you should do it now.

Food expensive here and service not the quickest don't think it that good based on these facts. Nice location though and drink is great.

He says, I had the fish pie and it was tasty. Accompanying vegetables were plain and simple. Haggis pakora for starters were also yummy. But, food portions are huge, if you don't have a big appetite then go for the half portions. (Or, skip a starter!) Staff were friendly and service was quick. She says, This was a great place! Book ahead by phone to make sure you get a table. Restaurant is upstairs, bar downstairs and some outside seating. Food was great, flavoursome and well seasoned. I had salt and pepper squid and haddock risotto from the special menu. Both were generous portions and very nice. Will definitely go back and recommend to friends and family. Service was also friendly l, chatty but professional. Some might think the surroundings a little old fashioned but to be honest, the view and the food make up for that. I would have given 5 stars!

Enjoyed dinner as a party of 7 this evening. We all enjoyed some delicious food. I had the fish pie and it was the best fish pie that I have ever eaten. Service was terrific. The only slight issue was the noise and I'm afraid that that was due to our group as we had a few oldies with rubbish hearing, so we were a bit loud. Apologies to the other diners.

We were visiting friends who arranged for us to eat at The Ship Inn. We had a brilliant experience from the initial welcome to the point of leaving. Staff are all positive and professional with a friendly manner. We all enjoyed our meals and can recommend the fish pie; the smoked Arbroath haddock and the tempura sea bass. All of the meals were freshly produced and beautifully presented! Great views.

Wednesday night on a golf holiday . Good food good service and busy for a midweek night which suggests a good place to visit

Stopped here for some food after being in Dundee all day. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We arrived just after they had closed the kitchen but they still whipped us up the best fish and chips I've had in a very very long time. Such fresh fish and amazing chips too. Great atmosphere in the pub and I would definitely eat here again next time I'm in this neck of the woods.

The Ship Inn is one of the finest restaurants in the city of Dundee. Situated in Broughty Ferry, close to the beach, ancient castle and esplanade, it offers a dining experience that oozes quality. First, book in advance - you can either book the restaurant upstairs (with the view) or downstairs in the bar, coz it's always popular being a small place. If you're lucky enough to have a table near the large window, you're in for a treat overlooking the Tay, and on a sunny day, it's fantastic. As to the food, quality and quantity go hand in hand. The mussels are mighty, the fish pie phenomenal and their chips are just the best. Whether seafood, meaty or any of the specials, no to mention original starters if u have a big appetite, the food is consistently brilliant, superbly cooked and tastes stunning. Service is as you'd expect and, even better, the value for money is superb. Highly recommended and then some.

Popped in with the wife, precooked a table excellent service and food was tasty...we had pensioner portions of the steak pie, which was ample for us...

Amazing food! Full of flavour and piping hot! Got a starter and main and could not fault the pork, would be coming back again!

Had a great meal, we are both disabled and the barman was brilliant at helping us be at home. Bar food, good produce, well cooked and HUGE, great value. Alas antibiotics and driving didn't allow me to check the beer, that will have to be remedied in the future.
