Collinsons Restaurant in Dundee City

Really expensive for what it was. Food was good, but not great. Nothing special, and for nearly £150 between two people, it was certainly overpriced. Food was very similar to any pub I’ve ever been to, but 4x the price. Presentation was lackluster at best. Overall not bad, but not worth the price!

Just left after the most fabulous meal here. Food, eine, service and atmosphere perfect. Only sad we don't live in the area to come more often. I would return just to come to Collinsons though!

We were there a few weeks ago for dinner, after being seated, we waited and waited, no menu, no wine list, no bread, no water. During this time 3 other tables were seated. After 15 minutes I called over the waitress and asked for a menu, she then dropped what turned out to be the wine list at the table. I called her over again and asked for a menu, she went off and brought back a more senior staff who told me there were non left and we would have to wait. She made the excuse that a lot of tables arrived at once. I told her that we were here before three other tables that were now being served. A debate then ensued! I explained that her behaviour was complete unacceptable in the face of the facts. Two menus then appeared. The rest of the evening was uneventful except being told that most of the puddings were sold out. The food was good, but the evening was spoiled. Won't be returning till there are new owners.

Having a short break in Dundee we made our choice on previous reviews and was not disappointed. A small choice for each course but adapted for our dietary requests produced an experience that was divene. The food was cooked perfectly scallops as starter and roe deer as main just melted in the mouth. Staff friendly and helpful. Just sorry it's so far from home but would definitely go again if in the area.

We visited Collinsons for dinner after my graduation. It is rare to visit a restaurant these days where everything from the service to the food is faultlessly executed. Here it is. Each course was perfect. The service was friendly and the ambiance relaxed. I wish Collinsons was closer to London!!

Very disappointing experience - one member of waiting staff was very rude and abrupt. We have previously had a lovely meal.

We have been customers to this restaurant for the past 4 years and until the last experience, no more. I ordered the fillet steak medium rare. Upon arrival the steak was not even medium it was proper well done as I could barely see any pink colour. The waitress takes it back and the manager comes out to ask me if I want a new one done to which I, of course, said yes I would like a another steak please. Normally in a small fine dining restaurant which is most likely owned by the chef, I would a expect an apology amounting to more than words. Something like, an extra complimentary dish, or the two glasses of wine off or better still, the fillet's £6.50 supplementary charge off. If you want to be a fine dining restaurant, then it should not include the dining experience of watching your wife on her birthday eating alone because you had to send your plate back. Utterly gutted by the latest experience and it will be the last.

Best restaurant in Broughty Ferry

Always good food. We were greeted by welcoming staff. They attended to quickly and regularly. We chose the 3 course menu. I had pork belly to start, conditions duck for main and white chocolate croissant pudding for sweet. My friend had chicken, chorizo ballotine, then fillet of trout and joined me with the same sweet. It was all brilliant. Its one of the best restaurants in this area.

Pre-meal bread: salty, garlicky and rich in flavor, very fluffy. Appetizer: Chicken and Prune Ballotine, one star in taste I don't understand the purpose of this dish. Baked Smoked Haddock The saltiness of the cheese, the creaminess of the sauce, and the sourness of the pickles are well balanced. Recommendation index five stars. Main dish: Slow Cooked Blade of Beef. After slow cooking, it melts in your mouth and is very tender. five stars Pan-Roasted Venison Steak is chewy, and the curry cream sauce and spices blend well. Five stars. Disadvantages: We went after one o'clock. Waited at least half an hour between appetizer and main course. The main course wasn't served until after two o'clock. Business may be so good that in order to increase the table turnover rate, the distance between tables is a bit close. Summary: The presentation is exquisite, the lighting atmosphere is very strong, and most dishes are highly recommended. The ingredients are fresh and the spices are just right! ! Overall five stars personally! !

We dined here initially for special occasions birthdays etc but the food and service is so good we dine here once a month for lunch and for special occasions we dine in the evening. We consider this restaurant the best in the area for food and service. Consistently well cooked tasty food, beautifully presented and service is first class. Menu has a good choice between meat fish etc. cannot comment on vegetarian as we tend not to eat that. Look at specials board for occasional dishes, I think Steven uses this as a trial for new dishes. You will always get something to your liking. Wine list good choice but we stick to house wines as they are good value and a bottle between the two of us is too much. Have to stay awake for the lovely sweets. Bread and butter pudding never tasted this good at school. You must try the Scottish tablet with the coffee, not fudge, Scottish tablet, delicious. Recommend reserving table especially on Fridays and Saturdays, it does get busy and we regularly see all tables full. Ignore the local rag’s reviews they seem to omit Collinsons for their recommendations for some reason

Have been quite a few times before but this time really disappointed with my choice of venison steak main. Didn't cut well and was extremely chewy. Would certainly not recommend.. Staff and ambiance however were of the reliable good standard.

Classic menu nothing exciting or unique. Good value for money. Ambience is unduly bright and service is extremely relaxed to the point of bordering on slow on a Wednesday dinner service. Would recommend for a satisfactory meal.

Excellent tasting, well cooked and presented food in clean modern, comfortable surroundings. All our dishes were delicious so I'm not sure you can go wrong with your choices. Some excellent wines available at fair prices and served in appropriate stemware. Staff were friendly, efficient and eager to please. Truly enjoyed our meal there and will definitely return next time I'm in the Ferry.

This is a very high end restaurant. The dining area is impressive & the atmosphere is very good. On a Friday night it was very busy. My starter of scallops with Stornoway black pudding was outstanding. My wife had a main of roe deer which she still raves about. Not a cheap dining experience but memorable. I would like to return in the future.

This is a gem of a restaurant. It has appeared in the Michelin Guide several times, with good reason. We arrived almost 30 minutes early on a Friday evening, but were warmly welcomed and given a choice of tables. The staff are warm, friendly and welcoming. The tables are a good size, the chairs comfortable and the decor modern, warm and inviting. We both had the Scallops for starter. These were huge, well-presented and extremely tasty. I had the Red Deer, which was juicy and tender. My wife had the beef, which was wonderful. We finished with the Apricot Frangipani Tart & Chocolate Couldn't- both were wonderful. We had a fantastic meal, at a fair price. If there was one thing that could be improved, it would be the choice and quality of wines by the glass. If you are anywhere near Dundee, book here and treat yourselves to a wonderful meal!

The starter and main course were excellent. The dessert pastry was undercooked and the cream sour.

Formal, but not stuffy, with fixed price menus with 4/5 choices for each course - reasonable value. 3/4 empty on a Thursday evening mid-August, so subdued atmosphere. Excellent cooking, particularly nice venison. Good vegetables, though exactly the same for whichever main you chose. Staff attentive & seemingly stressed, though not really enough for them to do.

Absolutely amazing food and beautifully presented. Well deserved reputation. Highly recommend - we had zero complaints!

Reservation was simple and successful. We arrived 15 mns early but they were happy to take us. The champagne we had previously requested was in ice by our table. Staff were professional, attentive without being fussy, smooth and faultless. We were a family of 4 celebrating our daughter’s graduation. Between us we had pork belly, beef, chicken and roe deer which were all amazing. Portions were plentiful and delicious. Merlot and Pinot Noir wines served in mini individual carafes. Deserts were cheesecake, chocolate fondant and apricot tart. All very good. As requested, the chef wrote a personalised message in chocolate on my daughter’s desert plate which was a lovely touch. The manager called a taxi for us which came in a matter of minutes. We all had a fabulous dinner and experience and would highly recommend.

3 course lunch is great value and it’s possibly the best meal I have had in the Tayside area. Wine list compact but definitely something for everyone. Well worth a visit.

Dinner tonight was not outstanding as I had expected it to be. Entrees we’re excellent. Venison main was significantly under-seasoned, though well cooked. The sauce over the Date and Ginger interpretation of stickey-toffee pudding, was granular and under-whelming. Our primary server was cold and generally un-welcoming. The secondary serving staff were attentive and very pleasant.

Fabulous place for quality food and drink. I had the Pork belly with Stornoway black pudding, and the fillet of beef (medium-rare). all cooked to perfection. Friendly, attentive waiting staff without being over us all the time. Highly recommend this gem.

Central to Broughty Ferry, the welcome was warm - I wasn’t sure whether we would be a 4 or 2 person, but they had no problem with the lack of decisiveness! The scallops and chorizo, whilst traditional, was beautifully presented and fantastic . All 4 of us followed up with hake, and again, fabulous. All washed down with a Malbec..x2!! Do visit. You won’t be disappointed.

First visit to Broughty Ferry and this restaurant. Beautiful contemporary decor without being fussy. We opted for the 3 course lunch with one glass of white wine which was served in a mini carafe, nice touch. Husband driving so soft drink for him. All food delicious, presented with care and thought and so flavoursome. Tweaks made for my dairy intolerance but it was not a bother and I enjoyed pavlova, seasonal berries and sorbet for dessert. Would definitely return and will recommend to friends.

We specified it was our anniversary and loved that they decorated the plate. All food hot, delicious and very pretty. The only alcohol offered was wine, no cocktails or spirits and the restaurant was full and with a buzzing atmosphere but it became quite warm inside.

First class fare as always - standards remain high. Sensational seasonal starter of asparagus, with poached egg. Mains was the most tender roe deer (venison) - cooked to perfection. Partnered with a decent Chilean Pinot Noir. Food was faultless - Sevice, First class. Unfortunately some of the clientele let things down - sucking one’s knife, is neither cool nor good manners (it’s actually disgusting). Turn your effing phone on silent, better still - leave it at home (if you are able). Some diners need a volume control. Otherwise, a memorable meal and highly recommended.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here with my mum and sister whilst on a ladies’ shopping day to BF. Food was excellent quality and the 3 course lunch menu was super value and served by lovely staff. We’ll definitely be back!

Been here many times, the food is beautifully prepared and I never leave this restaurant disappointed. I like that I don’t feel overwhelmed with portion size too! It’s quality and always so tasty. The staff are so lovely and welcoming also. The wine options are delightful and are served at the correct temperature in lovely glasses which always makes all the difference.

When visiting Dundee, we enjoyed the lively atmosphere at what is clearly a very popular local restaurant. Food was excellent and service, friendly and well paced. The Roe Deer was particularly good and, to wash it down, we enjoyed the Pinot Nero.

The restaurant was a great size but lacked a little atmosphere for me - music or a vibe. The 2 things my husband wanted weren't available and with a small menu it's a shame as it Limited options. The food was good and nice wine list. I just felt we were rushed quite a bit while we were there and this is our own preference but to have some time between courses.

Broughty Ferry is lucky to have a quality restaurant of this stature. It was busy on my visit with a good atmosphere. 2 of our company had trout which got the thumbs up. 2 of us had chicken which was perfectly cooked. Moist yet bland. White poached chicken on white mash. Under seasoned. Which I know is personal taste. Had to ask for condiments. Preferable to pub grub. It's good home cooking reasonably priced as is the wine list. Would certainly return.

I didn’t enjoy the starter at all and this was where it all ended. The waitress in charge was arrogant and didn’t check on us or asked if everything was ok so we decided to just pay and leave. She didn’t acknowledge us even when we had to pay and was more interested in speaking to the chefs behind the kitchen door. Don’t recommend. Not sure how this restaurant is on Michelin guide. First time in Dundee slightly spoiled but I’m sure we will find a restaurant we can enjoy.
