Stayed here for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend and we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Ship Inn is in a very picturesque village of Bardsea and was only a few minutes walk to the sea front which was lovely. Our room was comfortable and clean with tea/coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits available in the room . The breakfast and food on the evening were both very good, especially the cooked breakfast, which set you up for the day . Nice outdoor seating area and all the staff were really friendly.

Lovely little local pub, completely recommend the Sunday roast, but you may have to book a table as it gets very busy when the kitchen is open 😊

Lovely lunch time meal with friends. Attentive and friendly staff, tasty food with good portions, good value for money. Not quite enough space in the car park for all patrons.

The Ship Inn is run by a delightful lady called Katie. I christened her 'non-stop Katie' as she always appears to be working. She takes a real pride in the place, everything is 'ship-shape,' sorry. Ably aided by one of the friendliest, most able staff you will come across anywhere. The room was a decent size with a comfortable bed affording a really good night's sleep in this quiet location. Now for the food. We arrived on a Sunday, enjoying a 'senior's portion' of the roast. Absolutely awesome. On Monday, as they don't do food, (everyone is entitled to a day off,) we headed into Ulverston where there is a good variety of restaurants. We chose 'Aroma,' an Indian restaurant which more than compensated with excellent food. Tuesday at the Ship was 'Taco' night, not to be missed, very reasonable and very delicious. This was an innovative occasion for us but would certainly repeat the experience. I feel sure you will not be disappointed with either a stay or a meal here, (or both.)

We stayed at the Ship Inn Bardsea, and it was so quiet and peaceful, the service at the ship Inn was above and beyond and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was top notch as well, Katie and her staff welcomed us warmly. We will be back as Bardsea is a great little village for a base for The Lake District and surrounding area.

Was recommended it last year and tried it and it was ok, again i was told it was good so thought i would give it one more try, this time it was worse, i decided on the cajun chicken and the chicken was half cooked, the sauce was full of oil and it looked more like soup, cannot believe they would serve it to me. 100% wont be going back there........

We chose the 12 course meal with an added course and dessert, and it was worth every penny! Every plate was beautifully plated, and phenomenal. The head chef, James came out to explain several of the dishes in detail, from what makes the ingredient unique, to how it was sourced and prepared. The explanations of every dish made this a fascinating experience that set it apart from other Michelin restaurants since it’s never the chef, and the plates are not always explained in detail. The other servers/chef were all kind and friendly as well. We also loved how certain ingredients were paired with preparations that you would never think of, such as pea miso or barley koji. Being Japanese, I loved how old Japanese methods were used on untypical ingredients. Lastly, James and Darren (sommelier) chose a few wines for us, and they went perfectly with our meal. The wine pairing would be a good choice at this restaurant. The dishes are spaced with enough time that you wouldn’t have to rush drinking every glass, and their wines are incredible. If you are visiting Ambleside, this restaurant is a must! It was the highlight of our time in the UK, and will definitely be back if we’re ever in Ambleside again.

We stayed at the site over the bank holiday weekend and visited the pub a few times for drinks—each visit was a great experience! On Monday evening, we decided to have dinner, and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. While there were some gluten-free options on the menu (mostly meat-based), the team let us know that with a bit of advance notice, they could offer more variety. The chef even kindly offered to make a gluten-free carbonara—something not on the menu—which my mum ordered and really enjoyed. We all had different dishes, and every single one was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this lovely pub (and the campsite)!
