The Ship Inn in South Lakeland

Can't comment on the food because the service was so poor we did not wait to eat. It was not clear if it was table service or you ordered at the bar. Walked in and asked the bar staff who looked at us like we were from another planet. It sounded like it was table service so we sat down. 10 minutes or so later, went and asked for menus. Sat down for another 15 minutes and then walked out. It wasn't even busy just awful customer service. Go elsewhere. The Boardwalk very close by was excellent.

We thought we would try the Quayside as we have passed it many times when we have been staying in Bowness We hadn't booked but managed to get a table overlooking the lake which was nice.The staff were were pleasant and we didn't have to wait long for our meal We had some cheesey garlic bread to start with followed by Beef and ale pie which came with plenty of veg and choice of either chips new potatoes or mash and Seabass served with veg and choice of.potatoes both meals were good but felt for the price we paid for the Seabass we should have had two fillets of Seabass not just one fillet served with a plate of veg

Extremely rude bar staff. Spoilt our visit. Avoid at all costs if you want a nice day out with your family. I don’t write reviews but felt I needed to today.

Very expensive, food quality not good my wife got 8oz gammon that was burnt around the outside of it, i got lasagne which was also burnt around the rim of it very little meat in it and the chips were hard. I spoke to one of the staff who didn't want to know she just looked me and walked away.

Quayside and the Cellar formerly known as Ship Inn. We came to the Cellar for our first night on holiday and my god what a poor experience and waste of money. The staff were very rude and completely disinterested. I asked the waitress for some sour cream dip to which she replied they don’t have it, yet someone else on my table had it because it came with what they ordered. So I asked the barman if I could please have some sour cream after being told no, and that I would gladly pay for it. He asked what I wanted it for, and I was like to dip my food in obviously. The food came out within like 5 minutes which is a huge red flag meaning it’s all microwaved/fried crap and to be fair we expected better for the price. Wetherspoons definitely would have been better if there was one in the area!!!

This review is primarily about the extremely rude waitress that served us she was hideous, this is not the first time we have been and this has happened they employ mixed staff from different nationalities most are very friendly and efficient, but some are Russian, don't get me wrong I've nothing against Russian's. But these particular people are wincingly rude and create a horrible atmosphere like you are in a gulag not at all conducive with an salubrious environment like the lakes. This waitress was not only aggressively rude she kept ignoring us when being asked for things and could be seen from our table on her phone wandering around cackling to herself and shouting at other staff. There is clearly no training and no hand on the staff from management leaving some of them to run amok. The owner is leaving glib dismissive comments to any negative reviews, which my review will no doubt receive, which to me says they don't care about improving their business, which reflects its self in the food, as the food we had was TV dinner quality at exorbitant prices, with inedible hard vegetables and instant style potatoes. They should make this a pirate themed pub which would be in line with their business practices . In the past I have not let let these members of staff spoil what is a lovely location, but this was the final time I shall put us through the unpleasantness just to enjoy the view. Our otherwise lovely day was thoroughly spoiled by the unfortunate decision to stop in at the Quayside.

Comfy vibe for all ages in this place and has a dog friendly area. There’s a lovely view of the lake and large seating area. Ate lunch there soup & sandwich very tasty and well presented and helpful friendly staff. Went for drinks on Sat evening and busy but comfortable and an enjoyable evening.

After getting stranded in Bowness due to snow The Quayside took us in, provided hot drinks and allowed us to sleep overnight making us feel incredibly welcome. They were incredibly hospitable and kind and we look forward to visiting again under better circumstances. Thank you.

I believe this place is now the Quayside. We stopped on the off chance and we sat outside for a while having some drinks and the view was to die for! Outside heaters and everything. We then moved inside for food and lunch was amazing from start to finish. We had a mixture of the shares/nibbles and all were really really good. The place is very dog friendly too and had its own wee section inside :). Will definitely be back again.

We have visited the ship, now renamed the quay side, many times over the years, on yesterdays visit, we were surprised to see a beautiful new re vamp, we where greeted by our waiter and shown to our seat overlooking lake and view of the mountains in the background. We all ordered different meals from the menu, lamb Henry this meal meal was superb,worth the visit alone, in fact all our meals were of high quality, we had family from Australian with us who were very impressed with the pub,and the food. Big thank you to the cooks/chef’s and the staff who really made this an enjoyable experience. Thank you.

Lovely lively pub we went for anniversary meal they sat us at a table for two with a beautiful view of Windermere. Ordered food and drink and it was there in 5 mins and what a lovely meal it was. Pub clean and full of friendly staff I would highly recommend it

Been here many of times & was disappointed yesterday with our food My soup was Luke warm My partners prawn cocktail was basically sauce and salad in a half pint glass still looking for the prawns As for mains my partner had fish and chips they was delicious but served with coleslaw not tarter sauce I had the lamb Henry don’t get me wrong you got lots of dry lamb and hardly any gravy and smash I’ve always stopped here for food every time I’m in Windermere… deffo looking to go somewhere else next time 2/10

Avoid at all cost food expensive and very dear drinks 4 pound for coke 6 pound for a shandy two small muffins two drinks 33 pounde bill was wrong other people's drinks were added on to our bill the ham sandwiches were poor my advice go elsewhere and keep your money in your pocket

We went here last year for a Sunday dinner that was amazing so we returned this year it comes under the name quayside now but it was still the same amazing place great views of lake Windermere while you are dining extremely helpful staff that can’t do enough for you and the most wonderful Sunday roast

Quayside Bar in Bowness. Just had the best pub Sunday roast dinner we’ve had in years. Good portions and lots of perfect tasty vegetables.

Poor quality food,fresh out of a packet,minimal portion size maximum price,served on cold plates,used to be really good,but not any more,cut back to the bone,cost cutting to the point of rip off,it’s more like tapas food,but less of it,I live in Windermere and I won’t be back,I will be going elsewhere in the future,a good place ruined.The staff were nice and the view is good,but if you want to eat try somewhere else.

Visited the Quayside several times on a recent visit to Bowness. We had drinks inside and out and then decided to have some food one night. We were seated promptly and a drinks order taken. We then had plenty of time to peruse the menu before ordering the steak pie and the sea bass. The food was far better than we expected for a pub setting. Can't wait to return

My husband and I went for something to eat on Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday the server was very polite and attentive we were shown to our table then moments later came and asked if we would like a drink when he came back he took our food order and when we got our food which was hot tasty and delicious he asked if we would like any sauces or anything else he came back later to check everything was ok when we were finished eating he asked if we would like anything else we so no just the bill please. On Thursday the service was different the server we had the day before wasn't there that day we were told where we could sit we sat down and the server gave us our menus we sat for ages with servers walking back and fore before one eventually came and asked what we would like to drink we said we were ready to order as we had sat for so long the place wasn't busy when our food came the server didn't ask if we would like anything sauces or anything else when we finished they took our plates away and didn't ask if we would like anything else we sat for ages trying to get some one's attention to pay the bill they were walking back and fire again not once did they look in our direction it was only when someone at another table went up and asked for their bill that we got the attention of a server to ask for the bill . The food once again was perfect it was the service that day that let it down.

Went Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th of June, the view over the lake is gorgeous, the food fantastic,service 10/10 served our food and drinks by the most friendly, efficient , and over all very nice man named Lee, would highly recommend this place, its very clean, lovely atmosphere, very good food and fast friendly service. 10/10 😊😊

One of our group had a sandwich which to be fair she said was good. My other friend and I ordered the burgers the meal was dreadful. Half my chips were raw, but the burger despite looking fantastic was major disappointment. It arrived on Brioche bun, the burger was a good size, there was a stick through the centre holding two enormous onion rings on the top which looked really good. However after biting into the onion ring the grease covered my hand it was dense with oil. I removed the second one only to find the oil had soaked through the bun so it was impossible to pick up it just squelched between out fingers. I also found the actual burger dropping into bits. We both tried to eat our burgers with knife and fork. A couple in front of us clearly had the same problem as they left half their burgers in the serviettes. I finally removed the burger from the bun and just ate the burger. It’s not cheap approximately £14 for burger with chips.
