Had an excellent meal at The Ship Inn tonight. In short... Very welcoming and friendly staff, as always, having been for drinks before. But this was our first meal there. Slightly more detail... As I was instantly distracted by the specials board, we stayed for food. My wife had fish and chips while I had the Thai fish cakes from the specials. Further, more important detail... All the fish and chips were cleared. However.. Star of the show was the fish cakes; despite taking up the offer of Thai sweet chilli sauce I soon put it aside as the fish cakes spoke for themselves and should, and were, enjoyed solo. My father always replied 'yes please, anything to take the taste away' jokingly when offered sauces, and whilst they can be a great compliment, anything on these fish cakes wouldn't have done them justice. Too often I've had fish cakes which fail to taste of fish, not these. I don't normally add negativity to my reviews, (but I'm not sure this counts), there *were* places I would think twice about going back to, for food, in Caister. And *now* there are lots of places I won't go back to. Highlights... Sold on The Ship Inn. Great food/Great chef. Great staff.

We had two visits to this pub on our stay, has two outside sitting areas and is dog friendly with their own menu. We had Sunday lunch which was great value £9.95 each. Staff , Landlord and Landlady are all friendly, just off the beach well worth a visit.

Called into the ship Inn in caister for a pint and ended up stopping for three. Very friendly bar staff , pub following C-19 rules so don't forget your mask. You don't have to book a table but it is better if you do as space is restricted due to the 2 meters rule. Price not to bad and they let you run a tab so you only pay once. Real log fire on the go so the pubs nice and warm on a wet autumn evening. Going back to try the food later in week, So will update you. The Real ale's very good, you need to try it.

Pub hidden down a back Street, well populated by the locals, service a little slow, however, when the food turned up it was delicious. Young man that served us was well presented and very polite. Full marks to him. Shame the card machine didn't work and we had to go and find a cash machine. Covid measures in place if you wanted to use them.

We called in at the Ship tonight... not many people in there.! bar was sticky and filthy. The tables we sat at had sticky stains on them my phone got stuck to it. I had a glass and it had lipstick all over the glass and had to be changed. Yet there were three bar staff on????I think the new landlords need to be supervising a little bit better. I also heard other people saying how downhill it’s gone.Whoever owns this please pay a little more attention????

This pub used to have brilliant meals at good prices but unfortunately not any more. From ordering to receiving our meals took 55 minutes, in all honesty we thought our order had got lost. My brother ordered lasagne which was very small and burnt, 3 of the party had steak and how disappointed they all were . Small size steak, 2 mushrooms, half a tomato and about 8 oven chips which should have been £16 (thankfully we went during the eat out to help out scheme). I ordered scampi which was by far the best value for money and couldn't complain about.

So we booked & on the morning of the meal I looked the restaurant up on here! I admit I was slightly worried but there was enough good reviews, I thought we'd give it a go.So pleased we did, staff were friendly, took the drinks order immediately. Menu is fairly short but more than sufficient choice. We all really enjoyed our food, my tuna( which I rarely order as it's almost impossible to get right) was good, slightly pink with a good sauce. Admittedly I had to return my fries as they were cold but they quickly changed them & everyone else's food was hot and very well cooked. No children's menu as such but they do smaller portions of most main courses, the small portion of cod & chips was still fairly large & was as good a piece of cod as I've tasted. Yes, the food took a fair while to come, but it's freshly cooked & they were busy(no ding ding food here!), so it was acceptable. Overall a good experience & I would recommend to anyone who is eating out in Caister.

We went here tonight with friends for meal. I have to say it us the worse experience I have ever had. Which is a shame as before it was took over we use to go with friends nearly ever week as we live in Caister.I had cured salmon and crayfish salad and the salmon was served like steaks the salad was just leaves and a tomato. The chunk of bread with it was really dry and crusty. The scampi served had no taste. The cajun burger was flat no dressing and 10 chips on plate. The service was terrible had to badger them for drinks which came out wrong and then to order. I went up to ask for a dessert menu as no one had come to our table to see if we wanted anything else and 3 staff all on mobiles behind bar and couldn't be bothered.i certainly will not be going there again.

Went here tonight with family of 6 from 70 to 2 years old. Food was pretty good . Chips excellent but my salmon and crayfish tail salad was passable but simple salad and no lemon. Asked for condiments twice!!Waitresses more concerned with leaning on the bar. Given a supermarket bottle of empty vinegar. Service very slow we waited an hour to eat no apology. Small children very fractious. We didnt wait for dessert . To cap it all we were given the wrong bill. Had to go back to get refund. Management need to get behind their staff

Not a great experience. The menu looked promising but the results were disappointing. Prawn cocktail swimming in thousand island sauce, like something from the 80’s on a bed of lettuce. Frozen prawns, I would guess. Fillet was very fatty not like a fillet. Looked like a cheaper cut. Whole meal was not great. Worth the price we paid but that was with government discount. Would not have been pleased to pay the full price.

Having been to the Ship many times and always enjoyed the food, but not yesterday the menu has changed no baguettes, jacket potatoes or toasted sandwiches. Decided to have a lasagne a big mistake after a long wait it arrived no sign of cheese on top and the whole meal was floating in grease so I left it. I know it has changed hands but the new owners should have taken note of the type of meals previously served

Surprised at this little offering just off the beach: Sunday lunch was exceptional, quality beef cooked MR, with great roast pots and vegetables which to me is what Sunday Lunch is all about. Cauliflower cheese, cabbage and bacon in cream, carrot purée and carrots, roasted parsnips - seriously unexpected and a proper pan roast sauce reduction. Great little team of people and the Manageress really knows her locals: Left the Cali VW and walked to the beach (2mins) with the missus and pooch - finally the Price all mains under £10 which was unbelievable value for such great quality: New owner I believe in James, (ask him about his night time hobby,) building a reputation and heading the right way... definitely deserves a return visit.

We placed our order at 6.45 and were served our first plate of food at 8.10 which is 1 hour and 45 minutes wait. After an hour a young man came over and apologised for the delay on behalf of the chef, and offered us a round of drinks on the house, but we still waited a further 45 minutes. One person ordered scampi and when the plate was delivered the waiter announced that they had ran out of scampi so had made battered prawns instead. This is not scampi! The diner declined the plate and said to just bring anything else that was available and a cod and chips arrived within seconds. Another person ordered cottage pie which did not arrive at our table until 8.45, 2 hours after the order was placed and 35 minutes after the rest of the party got their food, despite lots of reminders and enquiries as to the whereabouts of our final meal. When he started eating it, it was apparent that the meat was actually a chopped up burger covered in a deep layer of mashed potato. It was tasteless and it was served without the gravy. We had children in our party who were ravenous and rather unhappy at having to wait so long for a burger and chips. Our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive and when they did arrive the waitress didn’t know which drink was which and when we inquired ‘is this the Motetti’ she said ‘probably’. The portion sizes were quite small and not enough to feed a hungry, grown man, especially when he had waited so long for the food to arrive. We counted the chips on each plate and non exceeded 15.

I went in with my husband on Tuesday evening to have a drink as we are staying at a local holiday park. As we waited at the bar the barmaid was dealing with someone paying there food bill which is fair enough but she didn't even acknowledge us. There was also a young lad cleaning down the kitchen (he was doing a very good job of it) so I didn't expect him to serve us, Another lady was in and out of the kitchen about 3 times and clearly saw us waiting and had eye contact with me , but never acknowledged us. A simple hello and saying they will be with us in a minute would have made me stay there. While we was waiting another customer who was already in the pub went to the other end of the bar and said something to the barmaid and she said sorry she will be with him soon. With that we walked out because of their bad customer service.

We went in and were told to sit where ever. It seemed alright at this point. We got our drinks at the bar and were told to wait for someone to come around to our table to order. 25 minutes later... We apparently affronted the staff by giving up and ordering at the bar. At the time of our order, there were three tables of people. We waited 45 minutes. Nothing. Groups of people who had arrived and ordered AFTER us had received food. They had ordered roasts. We had ordered a cheese and onion sandwich and a 1/4 pound chili cheese burger. Not impressed. Again, when we went to check on our order, we got curt and snippy replies. When our food did arrive, we were shocked to discover there must be a potato blight in Caister, as we were both only allocated 14 chips each. The salads were lovely. However, the 1/4 pounder had clearly been pre-cooked, frozen, and reheated to death. It was rubber and left on the plate accordingly. We managed to swipe packets of sauce from another table when it was vacated, as the serving staff didn't care to ask whether we needed any when they served us, nor did they check to see how our meal was. To top it off, there is a hole slammed into the drywall of the first cubicle in the ladies toilets that has been kindly filled with dirty toilet roll and other items. Class.

We were travelling through the area, looking for a warm place for lunch on New Year's Day on our way back from seeing the seals at Horsey Gap, and found The Ship online as we don't know the area at all. Always encouraged by a pub that has been given a new lease of life, we found it and had a very lovely Sunday lunch. Roast chicken for two, and good veggie/vegan options for the other two. It is a simple friendly local pub, and the staff were very welcoming. Well done to the new team.

We have been a few times during our visits and have always eaten here. Since the new owners took it over about a year ago it's gone up in food quality and availability. The portions are large but very well cooked and presented and the deserts are just gorgeous. Will cater for your individual diary needs too if requested. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. I hear they have live music one fairly regularly but have put this on my 'to do' list as we will definitely be returning.

We visited after walking from Winterton on Sea. Arriving a little wind swept with dog in tow, who happily settled herself in front of the fire. Lady serving was extremely friendly and made sure we did not miss out on ordering food, as the kitchen was due to close soon. Good menu selection, well priced and food was lovely when it arrived. Will be coming back!

Stopped off for Sunday dinner for the last two weeks. Very good for a plated Sunday roast, choice of four meets with veg roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. Good pint of hand pull real ale.

What can I say.... Dirty glasses, dirty tables/chairs, chef wearing dirty clothes and complete rudeness from staff. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! Plenty of better options nearby

The Ship Inn has several potential attributes. It is located near Caister beach in a seemingly pleasant residential area. The exterior has a appealing old world look and it possesses a more than adequate garden area and front courtyard.

Called in for lunch after searching Caister and this is easily the best place. It is clean, has a good menu although not much for vegetarians and the staff, Hayley, was very friendly. Our meals were well cooked and tasted delicious. There were a choice of three real ales and the Wherry was very good.

I’ve known and been to this dynamic and friendly cafe on and off over the last 10 years or so. Whenever I’m in town, I’ll always make a beeline for the Hamburger, always enjoy the great food and drink, and all the friendly and hardworking staff, a special mention particularly to Shirley, Rachael, Claire, Kelsie, Lilly for always providing service with a smile. Now back home, I feel sad to have said goodbye for another year, and only hope that we will keep in touch, and vice versa. The atmosphere, the food, drink, service etc., is exceptional and top class! If you love American food, e.g. beef burgers, breakfasts, ice creams, other meals, I’d fully recommend that anyone reading this should make this your first priority.

We sat outside for a post Parkrun drink in the unexpected warm sunshine. The super friendly barstaff were on hand to sort out a tub of fresh water for our black lab Bruce and even loaned us a bucket & spade for our little grandaughter to play with on the beach.

Gorgeous location and food. We sat on the roof terrace and ordered via an app. Food was fabulous, we had gyros chicken and mixed souvaki with flat breads

Visited the Boathouse on our last night in Norfolk and we chose well for our farewell dinner. The weather was terrible so it was lovely to step inside the really tastefully decorated restaurant. The staff were lovely and friendly and gave us a warm welcome. My husband had the mussels which were delicious he had asked for a starter sized helping but he was given the full meal size so I had to help him to eat them. I had the cod it was enormous and also absolutely delicious, it came with Indian flavours and an onion bhaji absolutely gorgeous. We would highly recommend a visit there were so many tempting dishes to choose from. The lady on the next table had the homemade beef and ale pie it smelt amazing.
