Just stop a minute and take a breather.....

The food was disappointing. I left the veg which was rock hard and obviously frozen. The creamy mash was the plastic potato pellets we get from Iceland. The suet pudding was hard pastry, not what I was expecting. The up side was a good pint of Guinness, the down side was sitting where the door to the outside seating area was constantly opening with those going outside to vape or smoke and the smell of cigarettes wafting in on me while I was eating my food.

Had a loverly meal that I have to say was cooked to perfection portion size was perfect and the atmosphere was really pleasant all the staff are polite and friendly. Making the whole experience amazing. Will be going back for the roast or just a pint as it just a very place to spent time

Utterly disappointed in this place ! I was so gutted. After seeing the reviews I had high expectation but oh was I in for a shock ! We waited 1hour and 15 minutes for our food . In that hour you’d expect them to come over and offer us condiments but they decided to do so when our food arrived so we were left waiting even longer . The food tasted stale and the supposedly medium rare steak was rock hard, it made my throat itch ! The waitress was the only good thing that came from this place so I will give credit to her as she was sweet and very apologetic. We ordered prawn bruschetta and only to find PLASTIC in there ! I would not recommend this place and all these 5 star reviews must be fake or pure fibs! Attached is the supposed lasagna by the way.

Lovely food, lovely bar man, and lovely decor. Outside seating is ample. Definitely recommend! 🥰

We booked in for Sunday lunch, which we were really looking forward to. When the dinner turned up and we started eating it, it was appalling. The vegetables were well past their sell by date, the meat was tough and couldn't be cut, the roast potatoes were hard and the Yorkshire puddings were extremely overcooked. When we had finished and the plates still had loads of food left, the waitress asked if everything was OK,and when we said no she just laughed. Nobody asked us why we thought it was diabolical. Will never go there again

We went for Sunday roast food was awful potatoes rock hard & had been microwaved meat was so tough the knife would not go through it vegetables tasteless broccoli yellow cauliflower had black spots on it, my grandsons pizza was like a 50pence one from any supermarket he couldn’t eat it, when the waitress came to collect plates she asked is everything ok when we said no it was terrible she laughed and walked away. We shall never return.

Wonderful food, great service. We are pleased to find a warm, welcoming place. We vowed never to return after a bad experience years ago. New owners , so different and so friendly! Definitely recommend now !

Popped into the ship first time I've been there fantastic staff warm and friendly atmosphere, a great old fashioned pub which has live entertainment, would highly recommend to everyone visiting the area

We frequently have lunch at the Ship and (Katie & Shaun) really make you very welcome. It has a relaxed feeling, the food is very good, service and atmosphere great.

Just popped in to check it out, karioke going full blast, good crowd of performers and spectators and the beer was ok, what's not to like, boys night out for us, a bit quiet but we still had a good time, staff great and the proper job IPA was first class

Just popped in for a beer ( proper job ). They sell good beer. I have been in previously for food and that was pretty good as well, a step up from pub grub. Worth a trip

It was my first visit to the The Ship. Not busy. Nice vibes. Food is served but only had a pint. Good location.

Easent helpful staff..friendly atmosphere.....the meals we had were spot on and reasonably priced...will go again...I had the 8oz Gammon with mushrooms tomato onion rings and choice of egg or pineapple..I had the egg...beautiful...A+++

8 of us Went there today. 3 had sea bass with mash potato with spring onions in it, that is all that was in it no butter no milk it was so dry the fish was not very hot. 2 had chicken that was very dry as well. 1 had lasagna which was also very dry. 1 had I think it was ham/gammon with eggs and chips that was ok. It is a shame because we was all looking forward to it and 4 of us had travelled down from London to take our brother and sister in law out for their 60th wedding anniversary . I do not think we will be going there for food again.

Good food, good beer and great atmosphere.

Had the table booked for 2:30 , first time in here was greeted with lovely friendly staff , in a very clean environment. Food was very good I had a large beef roast dinner the other people in my group had a standard beef roast and a vegetarian roast and all was in very high standards and tasted gorgeous!! We had starters as well and was in full flavours I had the king prawns in garlic butter. Most definitely be coming back . I would say pre book a table.

Great service from the members of staff very accommodating to us bikers on a Friday especially when we call up in advance and pre order our meals can't fault the service at all

Sounds like a nice pub with a small parking area at the back. There's both outdoor seating under a roof and open-air, and everything seems well-maintained. Service is okay, and prices are reasonable, in line with the average for the area. Haven't tried the food yet, so I might consider returning.

Terrible service and attitude. If your face fits that's okay but if not you are not welcome. Was told Landlady assaulted a customer. Basically a Homophobic aggressive attitude and a typical bad Social Club set up . Move on and get professionals in!!!!!.

Disgusting behaviour from the Owners. Rude, arrogant, Disrespectful and physically Abusive. Dint complain about the food or you will be attacked…. That’s the truth. Scum and shouldn’t be allowed to serve the public

Excellent food reasonably priced, good atmosphere great service

More boil in the bag type food. Steaks like rubber and cheap wine. 7 hand pumps but only two in use and no dark beer. Apparently, Punch tavern’s don’t have them in their choice for managers to order.

Visited this pub on a Sunday for my mums birthday meal. We’re not from the area and chose this based on Google reviews. It’s likely the worst roast I’ve had and I’m not fussy. Cold Yorkshire puddings, three tiny potatoes which were reheated and also cold, tough beef and just overall, a poor dinner. The service was shocking. We ordered more drinks as dinner was coming and we were finished all of our dinners before we had received any of our drinks. Wouldn’t recommend.

The pints are crisp and lively, and the food was exceptional and well priced, in my opinion, with the specials board varying week to week.

Only went in for a darts night but the staff were friendly and there was a nice atmosphere. Had burger and chips for food. The chips were lovely but the burgers were a bit over cooked.

Pleasant and inviting dog friendly pub. Good atmosphere and fair priced drinks. Free parking at the rear and a lovely private garden/terrace area. Would definitely visit again!

Called in whilst on holiday. Choose the ship because they allowed dogs. I had a portion of the best fish and chips I've ever had. My wife had a jacket pot. Welcoming friendly and excellent service. Reasonable price. Would definitely return

First time in Ship since the re-opening. Well laid out beer garden, nice bar and restaurant area with extensive menu and specials board. Comfortable seating, polite staff, tasty fresh food with reasonable prices.

Very accommodating the staff were great & food was lovely even made allowances for sides instead of chips would recommend

Booked a table in advance with no issues, staff were accommodating on the phone and welcoming when we arrived, we initially booked for the Sunday roast but when we got there (at 15:50) we were told they had sold out. We decided to order from the menu, kids meals are priced well and came presented nicely, adult meals came out but one of the surf and turf was ordered as a medium rare and came out rare going on blue, meat had not been seasoned and was bland and the centre was ice cold. When we first tried raising this I was told to wait as they only had one person serving, so I waited until the person came round again and sent it back to the kitchen, I was offered to have the meal heated up but by this point the family had finished their dinners and I didn't want to wait to eat on my own. Staff were walking around behind the bar in their socks and had their headphones in and this is not a great image. So in all a nice pub with some good areas of food, but staff training seems to be poor to non-existent and needs improvement.

We took friends there to have a nice evening meal Saturday night. The staff lacked any kind of training that was taking our orders and failed to order one of the starters which meant 3 had eaten and then we had to ask where the 4th was? One of the main courses was wrong. The management will suffer from this lack of experience and unfortunately it will end in another public house going down. We will not be dining there again.

The Ship Great Clacton… I have came here on a few occasions with the work lot. I absolutely love this pub/restaurant as the grub is on point, the staff are very friendly and catering and the atmosphere is very warming too! Lots of great memories here and no doubt many more to come!

The ship is great and would recommend it I had grilled skate wing and was the best I have had in along time my wife had the salmon and looks good. I will be going back soon with friends to try swordfish steak. Prices are more than reasonable and excellent service.

Great meals had by everyone. Had our children and grandchildren with us. Staff made us all very welcome. Real ale too!

Met friends for lunch...and had a nice pub meal

Food good but ruined by lots of loud swearing including a lot of Fs.Just don't expect staff to be swearing with their friends/ customers .Not at all good if you had children with you .But apart from that good service

Proper pub food. Ham eggs and chips. Home cooked ham,.local eggs and well cooked chunky chils. Meals in basket...great old fashioned but good. Sandwiches just right. Good sweets and pudding Plus a pint of Landlord real ale. Will go again

Saturday 25th February late afternoon carpark access to bar blooked by a van parked in front of steps restricting access to bar forcing people to walk on the road. Also they allow dogs which is great. But seems different rules apply between regulars and pop inns.

Lovely atmosphere. Great hosts and most of all the food is home cooked and fresh. A good old fashioned pub.

Nice friendly pub serving food in the Centre of Great Clacton. Helpful staff. We were looking for cake and coffee..which proved to be a rare commodity in the area, but they did the trick. Clean toilets and a small car park. We will go again.

The beef burgers where superb. The Shawn burger was delicious with a huge flat mushrooms lovely chunky chips. Excellent quality and quantity. Decent price and a nice cold pint

Made to feel very unwelcome. Didn’t even get a chance to sit down before being told that they couldn’t ‘squeeze us in’. Even just for a drink, it seems.

Service with a smile, good food and nice pint of Proper Job ale. Small car park but spaces available when we visited on a sat eve.

What use to feel like a nice warm traditional pub has changed since the new ownership has taken over. You will feel rushed and just seen as £££. Manners cost nothing and in a customer facing industry they are extremely important. Sad to be writing this, will only visit again under new ownership. Will most likely get a reply stating there rudeness is somehow my fault 😂

Amazing service and food. A group of 20 of us had the Christmas set menu here last night and it was absolutely lovely. The tables were decorated and really Christmasy. The new owners are fantastic and have really turned the pub around.

When I arrived they had stopped serving food. I cannot review the food but the bar lady was very polite and pleasant.

A nice pub with a "local" feel about it. The kind of place you feel welcome when you just go in for a pint (or two). Any pub serving Timothy Taylor's Landlord gets my vote, anyway.

Stopped by for a snack lunch. Enjoyed a fish finger sandwich with a side of chips (so my dog could have a few) and a pint of real ale. All very nice, couldn't quite eat it all as the helping was generous. I will be back!

Lovely Sunday lunch but no apple sauce available with my pork and no crackling, which is a must.

Wonderful evening with friends for a long overdue catchup. Staff were friendly and welcoming which is what you want when coming into a pub for drinks. We had stopped using The Ship because if the rude attitude of the previous owner. The new crew are great, keep up the good work and we will definitely be back.

Very friendly staff had Sunday lunch very large servings unfortunately my roast loin of pork was very dry and tough which was a disappointment, resulting in a 3 star rating.

It does not give me the option to reply to the comment below, But just thought I would edit my comment, as I’m not sure who the reply was regarding and who else you have resulted in a Altercation with, if you have me mixed up with someone else this must be a regular occurrence with you creating a Volatile Atmosphere with your approach to customers.

Excellent meal brilliant staff very good value for moneey

Just want to say that the sea bass I had last night was absolutely delicious! It was beautifully presented and came with salad and a dish of new potatoes. If you like to eat fish, the selection at The Ship is excellent!

Great atmosphere & friendly landlord. The building itself is listed .. it's a bit like stepping back in time. Food is always fresh & delicious. Drinks are a little pricey for a town in the north east of Essex but I think that's the way most things are inflating in this time rising prices
