This place is great, a smart restaurant in a clean and well maintained hotel. Seven of us went for an early family meal on Saturday evening and sat indoors next to the large folding doors to their garden. It was lovely and open and the friendly staff seated and served us quickly. Food and drinks were not slow. The kids burgers were large and very good quality, as was the kids pasta dish. My three small plates for £15 were good and made a decent size meal along with a portion of chips. All the other mains and desserts looked good. We were impressed with how vibrant and nice it was in the hotel and restaurant. Well worth the drive out of Clacton.

This is my local and I've found it to be very up and down. I visited 6 months ago with my daughter and I was very impressed. I went on Friday (16/8) for a birthday lunch and I can only say it was a real disappointment. Old menus, no drinks menu and bar staff couldn't make a Belini. Food not available and as veggies, difficult to find other choices. My friends ended up having pancakes as their main course. Our food then took ages to arrive. I also believe their hygiene is in need of inspection. Staff are friendly and do their best. New chef, new manager and Kingscliff you can do it!!

Shocking service Unfriendly, wasn’t offered a drinks menu, then was t asked if we would like to order a drink When we asked for the drinks,we waited so long we eventually had to go to the bar and fetch it ourselves The restaurant wasn’t busy Food was very standard below par some of the roast potatoes were black and the others tasted old and deep fried

Lovely place , beautiful location over looking the sea. We sat in the beer garden with our dog whilst we had a drink. Staff always helpful and welcoming.

Very average place serving very average Sunday lunch. The Restaurant is a bit dated. glassware where covered with water marks no rinse aid to reduce water spots I think the glasses were clean but they didn’t look very clean Dining Table looks like it had a problem with peeling not very good for cleaning and not ideal for a Restaurant .

It's handy if you're on the beach. Bit pricey though.

I went with a group of 3 friends for a meal. They were under staffed for a Friday night, the poor waitress was run off her feet, despite trying her best. I would give her 5* for effort but due to her being on her own, she wasn't able to provide the service she wanted to and seemed to be training others too. They had run out of prosecco (ON A FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!!!), had run out of menu items but only told us after we ordered. We aksonhad to ask for the specials. There was a bug in my meal. We were then told that we HAD to order dessert before 9pm despite there still being tables eating mains. Music was turned off and lights turned up when they wanted rid of us. So many more issues. They did take my main off the bill. I emailed as an ex pub and restaurant manager to allow opportunity to rectify the situation. They replied, offering a solution, then never followed through!! Very disappointing considering they promote themselves as a high quality establishment. Again, server tried her best, food was tasty once it arrived and debugged. Atmosphere was great until they wanted us to order pudding then leave so they could go home. Empty promise to rectify the situation.

Nice selection of food, reasonably priced and good service.

We had afternoon tea, was asked about diet and allergies. My husband is allergic to fish, we asked for no fish and egg for one. We recieved our food quickly and well presented. Sandwiches served in small rectangles with no crusts. I had what looked like tuna and cucumber to be honest I do not know what was in any sandwich and looked like they had all been cut with the same knife as we could see food smears on the edges of every sandwich. We were not offered any more beverages. Very dissapointing visit

Food exceeded expectations. Ate there the first night not expecting much from a seaside hotel. This is far from a British "hanky on the head," place. The calves liver was to die for and the fish and chips were cooked to perfection. Decided to eat there a second night and we were not disappointed. Staff were extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. Could not fault anything. Breakfasts were good too and they always got the order right which I now find is unusual in this day and she. Well done Kings cliff!

Kings cliff is a nice place to go for a quick drink 🍹 on Sunday I went to the restaurant with my family and we ordered three roasts Thaydon came out quite quickly two looked good but the one I had looked like a child portion . It had no gravy on it and the amount of food compared from the other ones was very small it weren’t till later on when three locals sat beside us and ordered three roasts we looked at there dinner and they were even better the portions should all be the same as we all paying the same price . They seem to have a serious problem As we all now we all like and look forward to have a good roast dinner but please GET IT SORTED WITH THE SAME SIZE PORTIONS BECAUSE IT’S NOT CHEEP EATING OUT FOR SOME PEOPLE

Been twice for the month of October as they've had a special 2 courses for £15.00. First visit was much better than the second. First visit had calves liver and bacon. Then a cheesecake with mango sorbet. Second visit had the burger and chips followed by cheesecake and vanilla ice cream. My mum had the cod and chips. The chips were very overcooked that came with the cod. The burger was very salty, I'm not sure if it was the cheese or the streaky bacon. No one checks if your food is OK. I wouldn't pay the full menu price for food here, just glad it was on offer, and for that reason it was OK. Needs more staff as the poor waitress was rushed off her feet.

Didn't stay there (for a family do @ Golf Club), but several other family members did and invited me over for breakfast. Our waiter was good, polite and apologetic, but food/drinks were not. They had run out of all juices - should have sent someone to Tesco... Bacon was fatty & greasy. Sausage & hash browns were hard, eggs too. At 15 quid I expected better, should have breakfasted at my own - Premier Inn Seafront.

Lovely pub, restaurant and I assume hotel right on seafront. Large garden to front and side with different types of seating. We parked on road opposite, don't know if there is an actual car park. Nicely decorated inside and out. Warm welcome from all staff, little wait for our order and got it wrong but quickly rectified that, while being very polite. Would recommend a visit.

Been here before, this time the food was okay but not as good as our previous visit. I think thay must of changed the chef.

Stayed at the Kingscliff once more and always a pleasure. Great staff, friendly and always helpful. We had a meal in the pod for our anniversary. Had a great evening made better by the unexpected treat they made for us. Thank you⭐️

Good food and service would recommend

My my, what a clamity, wrong food brought to our table twice, after 30 minutes asked where our food was, no one came back, went to the bar 10 minutes later met 3 staff chatting away, asked for my food and was told it was on its way, funny that because I didn't tell them my table number 😗 food finally arrived after 50 minutes and the chips looked like they had been varnished, smelt of old oil not nice at all, won't be going back.

Food not so good, we ate in the evening friday, service OK but it would be nice if the waitress did not call us GUYS ,LUVVIES, just enjoy your meal. No beer on tap only bottle. Value for money not good. It was so hot, no windows open, air con is looking good. Not a venue I would visit again.

Waited 1 hour and a half to be served cold drinks at our table of 4. Then out food order didn't come out all at once by the time 2 of us finished eating only then the other 2 were served the food they ordered. I guess making a toasted sandwich is the most complicated item on the menu. As beautiful the place is inside I wasn't impressed at all. My husband was also in a wheelchair and we were dumped at the furthers table at the back which made it like mission impossible in the wheelchair to get to our table and then to leave as we had to disturb a table of 20 people to get them on feet so wheelchair can exit. Completely understaffed and the staff they got they don't really know what they doing.

Good hotel, but I have had better everything for slightly less cost in the area. Would highly recommend for the view and the close proximity to Clacton. Travel for business.

For me personally i didn't like the food ,my wife said hers was ok .the restaurant was quite busy so maybe its just me .i can not eat fries with the skin on ,thats what i got even after i asked and was told they weren't skin on fries i opted for a burger as the menu is quite limited. Can't really go wrong with a burger ,err yes you can it was so dense it was like eating rubber .we opted for the main and dessert for 15 quid ,the dessert was sumptuous very very nice wish i went straight for the dessert and not had a main .

Went for a Mothers Day dinner, good overall service considering there were 7 of us. We had a set menu consisting of 3 starters, 3 mains, and 3 desserts to pick from. I had tomato soup to start with a roast beef dinner and sticky toffee pudding. All were cooked and presented really well. In fact, the main was delicious 😋. One of our kids was not interested in the set menu. However, the team at Kingscliff was happy to make him a burger. We thoroughly enjoyed our Kingscliff experience, and we will be back.

The £15 March special for a 2 course meal was well worth it. Good food & service, it is an elegant hotel.

We treated ourselves to an afternoon tea. It was absolutely delicious. A great choice of sandwiches and cakes. The scones were warm. Couldn't fault it. The staff were very helpful and polite. The restaurant was very clean. We loved the decor.

Very pleasant young lady served us, food very good, managed a starter & main for £¹5 each then were very naughty and had a pudding each. With a wine each cost us £60

3 of us booked a Christmas meal...very disappointed! Roast potatoes were hard,veg was overcooked.yorkshire puds were burned and I have no words for the cabbage that was served. Never returning.

I am a deputy manager at a local nursing home. We took our residents for afternoon tea, along with family and staff members, a total number of 11. The atmosphere was calm, which is perfect for our residents who suffer with dementia.The staff were very polite, attentive and went the extra mile to ensure everyone including our resident celebrating her birthday, had an amazing time. The afternoon tea was simply sublime and we will have no hesitation on returning again in the future. Thank you to everyone in front of house and behind the scenes for outstanding 5*service which was simply 🥰

Excellent food Very good service

Enjoyed a work team evening out recently. The service was quite slow but the good was good, although we weren't offered the specials and didn't find out about them until we had all ordered. Place was very busy and had live music which was enjoyable but a little too loud. Found ourselves having to shout for conversation. Perhaps keep the volume lower while people are eating then turn it up later?

Excellent service great location on the seafront. Staff are friendly and the curry is sublime. Overall a great experience and the toilets are clean and easy access with parking .

Very disappointed with Afternoon tea. Service was bad had to wait 30 minutes before offered tea or coffee and then another 15 minutes for food. Sandwich filings were really awful, one just had two slices of cucumber and no sign of any cream cheese. The only thing we eat were the scones which were nice. There was a promotion for 25% off but when the bill arrived it was for the full amount. This was changed but I noticed that there were a few other customers who were also overcharged. Would not return and would not recommend.

Food was lovely, waited just a bit too long but worth the wait. Right next to holland-on-sea beach... free parking on road.

When I came here for afternoon tea the first time I loved it here! I didn't stop telling everyone about it but I went for it again last week and the sandwiches were dry literally no butter just dry bread. One sandwich was literally just philli on its own. The Scones were over done as really hard and the cake was cut in the smallest piece. So I wasn't that satisfied after coming back but the staff and cocktails were Lovley.

Food was eatable, but service was so bad.. dirty tables with full of empty glasses and dishes… no one from staff was care about it, so new costumers just cleaned tables for them selves after someone has left.

Couldn't fault my stay. Hotel was clean, rooms were clean, everything was nice and modern. Bar are is a little small but not a huge issue during summer when you can sit in the big garden which is also very nice. Food is great, we had breakfast and dinner twice here and it's all presented very nicely, good portions and tasty.

Had a black decaff coffee. It looked cloudy and didn't taste too good either. I couldn't drink it. The other people I was with had coffee and hot chocolate and cake and they seemed to enjoy it.

Wow! Those starters really knocked it out of the park. I had the crab and my wife the mussels.

First time here. Staff were very polite but oh the service was so, so slow. Complained to our waiter who was very apologetic said basically they were short staffed. Offered us free sweets which we accepted. Also offered us some free drinks to take to the beach. Would like a manager to come and apologise but maybe just being a bit picky. Food very good. Whole experience spoilt but slow service.

Terrible. The service is so slow. The food was inedible . I have allergies which i explained and when my food arrived it was covered in pepper which I'm allergic to but then i was told the poached eggs were warned up in the same basket as the onion rings ! Which i also told them i was allergic to . It really shouldn't have been hard i ordered plain ham egg and chips . No salt.pepper.seasoning of any kind as I'm allergic to onions.peppers.chilli. and spice of any kind . Honestly it was disgusting and my husbands fish and chips . I will upload a photo . He had 8 things which we think could have been chips but we couldn't take the chance of food poisoning. So we left after giving them the food to take back

Never been I booked to go and then I was unwell.

Afternoon tea at the Kingscliff was very pleasant, nice sandwiches, good soft scone, would have preferred a greater selection of bite size cakes as only two chocolate cup cakes and a couple of macaroons were provided. I'm not much of a chocolate fan so not much for me. Hopefully that was a failing of the Easter week and not a general example. I will go again later in the year.

We booked afternoon tea for Saturday 26th March , we had to wait nearly half an hour before anyone came over to us , then 20 minutes for a cup of tea , & almost an hour for our sandwiches & cakes , couldn’t fault the food at all , it was a lovely spread but the service was awful , no one came over to us , we were totally ignored until we asked where our teas were & what had happened to our afternoon tea & sandwiches.

Such poor customer service. After an error on their website resulting in a double purchase of vouchers for my mum for Mother’s Day - I have phoned and emailed several times over 3 days so far to get this rectified so I could send my mum the valid vouchers and get my refund they haven’t done anything to resolve this.
