Lovely pub, with a great range of home made food and desserts. The slow roast lamb was ‘melt in your mouth’ delicious and served with plenty of veg and potatoes

Yesterday came across this pub and went in for lunch. What a treat. The meal was absolutely fantastic. I had lamb cutlets and my husband had pork loin. We both said that we had never had such an excellent meal out anywhere. Just wish we didn't live 200 miles away or it would be our regular eating place! Brilliant.

It is a decent little hotel but it is nothing special. Room was spacious and clean, the bathroom was on the small size. Everything worked, but I would replace the curtains as they give the room an unnecessary old-fashioned vibe. Dinner was well enough, but yet again, nothing special. Its good for a night or two, but I wouldn’t want to spend a week here.

Three of us booked bed and breakfast and also had dinner at the hotel at the end of the first day of the Coast To Coast Walk. We booked direct. Keith was really helpful and efficient during the booking process and we found him to be a great host. The bedrooms were lovely - tastefully decorated and furnished and very well equipped. Dinner was excellent (steak in my case), beers and wine very good and everyone was warm, welcoming and friendly. Overall value for service was great.

We had just walked round Emmerdale on a very hot day, about 4pm when we landed at the first pub/eatery that we found. We were the only People there . As it was a lovely day we headed straight to the beer garden. I wish I could remember the name of the young girl who served us, she was first class. Drinks ordered and delivered to us , we checked out the menu and ordered. We Alll agreed what a cracking little find this was. We could not fault anything. Special pat on the back to our server and also to the chef. Oh yes if in the area we will be back🥰🥰🥰

Came in here seeking a bar snack. They were very busy but squeezed us in and laid a table for us. We both opted for the 'small roast' and oh wow! Not very small but wonderfully cooked, prepared, and presented. So much good chunky meat, perfected roasted potatoes, and (unusually for pub food roast dinners) perfect vegetables. All piping hot and smothered in rich gravy. Bar staff very helpful and working so hard with big smiles on their faces. A great find.

Beautiful meal. Service very quick, all food served piping hot. Both the steak and the chicken, leek and ham pie had plenty of filling, and a shortcrust pastry slab not a pot with puff pastry crust, a proper pie! We come to the Lakes annually and this pub is a must visit. I’m always amazed it’s not packed. After a wet walk we came in for a late lunch, four adults and a dog. The soup was so tasty, served with warm bread. Between us we had the small portion of steak and ale Pie, which was plenty big enough. A proper top and bottom pie with light shortcrust pastry. A pasty and a fillet steak. Fresh veggies and garlic and Rosemary potatoes. After a break we were ready for deserts, hot chocolate fudge cake, crumble and berry bread and butter pudding. We all agreed the food was top notch, absolutely delicious. If you’re in the area I urge to pop in for excellent grub. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Staff very friendly and welcoming. We were recommended this place, whilst on hol in Cockermouth. We wanted a nice drive too, we opted for lunch at 12.30. We sat outside as it was lovely, it was not busy and it should be but is on the middle of no where, it will be popular with walkers etc. The food was excellent, my husband opted for a Ploughman’s lunch, I opted for soup and sandwich, what I got was full soup of the day and bacon brie cheese sandwich which was also a full sandwich, it was delicious bit far too much, if I knew it was full size I would have ordered one or other. Seventeen walkers visited here on a Saturday afternoon after a mornings walk. The food was just about ok. I had fish and chips which was poor and all who had said it was not very good, not good value at £12.75. Bone hard chips that we assume had been warmed up, the fish batter was like cast iron. However the ploughman’s was very good. The two ales were average at best, one had no condition. From the outside and on first entering the Shepherds Arms looks a bit run down - the pub sign is faded and the main entrance is via the hotel reception and is all a bit unwelcoming as a pub experience. But once in the bar it's very nice and a proper village (and there's an entrance from the road direct to the bar, once you know about it). The menu is not spectacular but is all solid pub food, and perfectly OK. Provides good big portions at sensible prices for hungry coast-to-coast walkers (the main reason why people visit Ennerdale Bridge, although its proximity to Ennerdale Water and some lovely countryside makes it a destination in its own right.

One lady is friendly but the others seem as though they’d rather you weren’t there. I think they must be shot staffed. The lentil veggie burger was really poor. It was soggy and cold in the middle. The smell from the septic tank was really bad. There was also something very like sewage flowing into the little stream out the back so that could have been the reason for the smell to be fair to the pub.

It is a nice country pub which is what we like, and the food we had was lovely (there was also an option on the menu to order small portions was also a plus point and something we don't often see). Myself, my husband and son decided to eat here after a walk around Ennerdale Water. This being a quiet out of the way village we really weren't expecting very much. There was a good selection of drinks available, and food was served all day, although the menu changed to the evening menu at 5 pm. As it was the early afternoon, we chose from the lunchtime menu. Me and my son chose the steak and ale pie (£11.75) and decided to have chips and veg with it. My husband went for the 10oz sirloin steak with chips (£17.95), tomatoes, mushrooms and onion rings (delicious). The portion sizes were more than adequate, and the quality of the food was outstanding. The beer gravy in our steak and ale pie was amazing. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection, and delicious. In fact it was so good, our son wondered whether the chef was married. The venue was fairly quiet, but the service and time we had to wait wasn't very long at all. Any coast to coast walkers who choose to stay here before tackling the lakes' heights, will not be disappointed with the food and drink on offer here.

Photographer went in pub came back with manager who "insisted" we move to another place, where?, a few hundred yards away up a side street. Left and did not go back.

This is the best restaurant in this small town. The food was very good and so was the service. My steak was perfectly cooked and it was massive -- it was at least twice as big as I've ever seen. Service was very friendly and the room was quiet for a pub with low ceilings.

The Shepard’s Arms was a very welcome stop at the end of our first day on the Wainwright Coast-to-Coast trail. Four hungry trekkers enjoyed both the atmosphere of this traditional English pub and a menu that went far beyond the normal pub fare. The lobster and prawn linguini was delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting - boots and dogs are welcome. The vegetarian options were very good.

A very quaint and traditional bar, serving great food and a wide range of local ale! A welcome place after a long walk with a real fire. Hospitality second to none. You won't be disappointed

We called into the Shepherds Arms when we arrived into Ennerdale Bridge after walking from St Bees. First stop on the Coast to Coast. We were soAking wet but that didn't deter the lady behind the bar welcoming us and taking our wet weather gear and hanging in their drying room till we were ready to leave. We booked a table for dinner and was not at all disappointed. Excellent portions and very very tasty and as always good value for money. Steak and ale pie and pork belly.

Stopped off midday for lunch - really lovely way to end an morning at EnnerdaleService was friendly and helpful and the portion sizes generous - there is also a quite varied menu and although we only wanted a sandwich, there were more bigger meals available even at lunch time.

Went here for lunch on a Saturday. The lady behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly and when my husband told her he hadn't tried two of the tap beers, she poured two samples for him to try, one of which he then had a pint of. The lady (I think one of the owners) was very informative about the menu and the specials: We both had steaks which were perfectly cooked, tender and delicious. The chips and varied vegetables were also excellent, as was the salad with my steak. The coffee was good and I asked for it to be strong and it was. The menu had variety, with lots of dishes we will be trying in future, including traditional and also modern cooking. The bar was very clean and tidy whilst remaining like a traditional country inn and had a very pleasant ambience. There were also several locals in the bar which, I think, is a sign of a good hostelry. I cannot really praise this enough and was only sorry we could not fit in a sweet! We will certainly go back again, possibly tomorrow!!

Lovely pub to go for a drink. Only pub close to where we were staying. No food served here. Dog friendly. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Close to request stop railway station. Open 2pm til pub empty. Makes sence. Friendly people.

Due to lockdown restrictions, Truly Scrumptious has a delivery service, so this was ordered by phone, rather than a visit to the shop. Their cream tea selections are amazing! My sister ordered this for mother's day - and since we haven't seen her since October 2020, she treated me, too! Delivery was within a 2-hour time slot, and arrived in good time. Definitely recommended.

We came here for Sunday Lunch. It is advisable to book as I don't think they accept walk-ins. The roast dinner (I had chicken) was absolutely amazing, really good. Prices are very reasonable. Nice cosy village pub in the middle of nowhere - make sure you search it out.

I would highly recommend Moresby Hall. The owners were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. I am a wheelchair user so was concerned about the actual accessibility of this grade 1 listed building. However they exceeded our expectations, having a designated, very well thought out, accessible apartment on the ground floor with every possible aid needed. Not only that but it was beautiful and we very much enjoyed our stay. Jane and David the owners were very welcoming, approachable and friendly, and they even made a amendment to the front door as my chair caught on a part of it. Breakfast was really nice, having a great selection to choose from and hot food made to order. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had and it felt much better than the buffet style English breakfast. The weekend went by very fast and I’d have loved to stay longer. Would highly recommend this beautiful hall as you won’t be disappointed.

Lovely friendly independent cafe based in the church at Frizington. When we went we had booked because it gets packed out by local residents. My friend is local but I was visiting . We ordered tea for two and a lovely big pot with China cups and saucers arrived. More hot water to top up the pot no problem ! My friend had a delicious ( massive) omelette , salad and chips. I had the steak pie ( gorgeous gravy) , vegetables and again the wonderful home made chips ( best ever) . Crumbles or ginger cake with custard for dessert. I just loved the lively atmosphere . So great to see a place thriving in the north west lakes. A real hidden gem.
