I was recommended the Samuel Palmer by two separate friends who had already visited. I'm so pleased I took their recommendation and visited for Sunday Lunch. Food was top notch, excellently presented and arrived nice and hot. The two courses we had were very tasty and well cooked. The service we received was excellent by all staff members, who were very friendly and happy to help. The main dining room was cosy and comfortable and the facilities were kept clean. I will definitely be coming back to the Samuel Palmer in beautiful Shoreham.

Website times for food are incorrect when I asked a member of staff I just got a rude reply saying food is finished I showed him the website times and he said they are wrong 🤷♂️ so a wasted trip. I explained that the timings on the website are quite confusing only for the staff member (tall overweight guy with dark hair ) to just walk off and say there only confusing to me

We ordered 4 sirloin steaks and were left gobsmacked. There was no choice for how the beef should be prepared and to our surprise, we were served 4 raw steaks which were not only raw but stringy also. Will not repeat again.

We stayed at the Samuel Palmer pub for two nights as hotel guests. The pub had recently been refurbished and so we were the first guests to stay. We were there for a wedding and so 6 of us had the three rooms and it genuinely was perfect. The rooms were so beautifully made with such good attention to detail, it truly felt quite luxurious and the staff were especially helpful and went the extra mile to make our stay comfortable. The food was also magnificent, definitely not pub grub it was high quality restaurant standard food. I would without hesitation recommend staying here and would come back soon if I can! Thank you so much.

During our recent visit to the Samuel Palmer pub, my dad, a wheelchair user, had an outstanding experience. The staff demonstrated genuine care and went above and beyond to ensure his comfort. When we spoke to a staff member the day before our visit, they were not only helpful but also knowledgeable about accessible areas. They proactively reserved a parking space at the front, eliminating any mobility challenges. Their willingness to provide essential information, including details about the accessible toilet, made a significant difference. Once inside the pub, the service continued to impress. Everyone was attentive and supportive, especially towards my dad, demonstrating real inclusivity (unfortunately not always the case). My only suggestion would be to include this accessibility information on their website. Having it readily available would benefit other wheelchair users planning their visit. Thank you again!

I nice spot for a pub lunch, but frankly the food they served us was dire! My fish and chips in particular was greasy, badly overcooked and plastered in salt. I don't particularly like salt - and assumed they would not pre-salt the food, since there are salt and pepper dispensers at the table anyway. I would normally have sent the whole thing back, but we were short of time. A great shame, because it's otherwise a really nice pub - but I won't risk eating there again !

We had such an amazing experience at the Samuel Palmer for my sister's bday/hen party. We booked the private area and I had liaised with Fay in advance who was helpful and accommodating at every step. The pub is lovely, a great setting, and the staff were exceptional especially Chris who was our main waiter on the night. I could not fault it, it was some of the best service I've ever experienced, which went a long way toward making the day special. And of course the food and cocktails were very tasty too.

This pub is always a good stopping place when hiking round Shoreham. Good range of beers (including a locally brewed cask ale), wines and spirits. The atmosphere outside and in was great. The bar staff were uper friendly. The drinks choice was excellent, especially the beers. But our food didn't match it. The lamb shoulder was quite bland and the couscous stone cold. The fish and nine chips ( yup, I had a third of my fish left bereft of chips) with hard peas was disappointing too. Didn't order food. Advised to pre book as very busy. Food looked appetising, what other people ordered, and listening to their comments. Fish platter excellent, roast dinner, cheesey chips. Friendly staff, although bar staff need to be more observant on who was waiting and who has just walked in. It's very annoying. Large area of seating in the back garden. A new canopy has been installed to protect from the sun, which is very welcoming. Plenty of indoor seating available. It's definitely worth a visit.

Here's the thing. We love Shoreham and we loved this place before it was refurbed. Its now a more spacious and comfortable pub, with ok food but it has issues. We stopped by not intending to spend a fortune but the bar menu was uninspiring so we decided to eat in the restaurant. The menu is limited, which is a good thing sometimes, but this is limited in so far as there were three choices for mains: two fish dishes and one veggie. Meat options were sharing platters priced at £75 for pork and £80 for (allegedly) rib-eye steak. What the hell, we thought, we've come this far let's have the steak. We were not asked how we wanted it cooked so I took steps to ensure it was medium. Starters were nice, the steak arrived on a wooden board with "seasonal vegetables" a small dish of broccoli, and chips. What can I say about the steak? It was indeed cooked medium. Was it rib-eye? Not sure. Looked suspiciously like sirloin. It was tender enough but not particularly tasty. The credit wine jus helped but for £40 each I expected something a bit more. Three courses, one drink each and a coffee set us back £173 including a whopping £20 service charge. As I say there was nothing really wrong with the food I just expected it to be more exciting for that sort of money.

We really wanted to like this pub after knowing about it for several years but never having got round to trying it. Unfortunately, we haven’t been missing out. The food was average at best. The roast chicken was undercooked and the cottage pie arrived warm, but not hot. We were sat in the bar area as we had dogs (not a problem for us) but were not made aware that no desserts are served in the bar area. We were allowed to eat the same main courses that were being served in the restaurant, but not the same desserts. Never heard of such a strange thing to be honest and when we asked what the reason was for this, they had no answer. If that’s the case, don’t show your restaurant menu in the bar area. I watched the owner and his staff behind the bar as my father walked away disappointed and sat back down at his seat, and they all just sniggered and laughed. Extremely rude and unprofessional and as a result we won’t be returning.

The pub is pleasant in lovely surrounds - BUT almost £70 for two roast dinners and two drinks meant I was expecting a satisfying portion. Instead two slivers of beef three tiny potatoes half a carrot three stems of broccoli and Yorkshire pudding. The same size as the kid’s portions. All lukewarm and under-seasoned. I know that everywhere is having to cut back due to prices but it doesn’t take a lot to make a roast feel generous. £70 is a week’s food budget for some families and certainly a treat meal for us so was disappointing to feel short changed. Won’t be back.

Went for lunch having had a great evening meal 6 months earlier. The staff are very welcoming and the pub atmosphere and decor is superb. However my wife and I each ordered a prawn baguette and I'm glad I paid extra for some chips at the time as the baguette was only half a baguette, no more than 15cm long with a few prawns in it. It was underwhelming and hugely overpriced at £25.

Atmosphere and service great. Unfortunately the bar food is very inconsistent - we have been three times and ordered the beef brioche bun each time, once it was terrible, the second time it was fantastic and the third time it was mediocre. At the price (£15, and it's not a massive portion by an stretch of the imagination) you really expect them to deliver consistently. To be honest, it's extremely overpriced. Seems like they have a few different chefs and it's luck of the draw who you get.

The pub itself is very nice and the rear outdoor area is lovely but the portion size of the Sunday roast was the smallest I think I’ve ever had in a pub. I wish I had taken a photo but it was literally a slice of a small floret (not even a full floret as they sliced it!!!) of broccoli, half a small carrot, half a shallot, 3/4 of a roast potato and a drop of gravy, the Yorkshire pudding was great and the beef was lovely and tender although under seasoned and spaced out from everything on the plate (it wasn’t even a big plate). I can’t understand why they would skimp on the cheapest part of the meal and we left unsatisfied but weren’t happy to spend anymore money in there which I imagine is the reason for the small portions, to encourage consumers to order 3 courses but unfortunately the value for money just wasn’t there for us.

Not welcoming tonight. Bar was full so we were told by a barman we could sit in the empty restaurant. A succession of staff said we could not stay sitting there, despite no room in the bar and 30 empty chairs in the restaurant. The manager was unfriendly and said he would have to sanitise the area we were sitting at and made it clear this was a big inconvenience. Even the word 'sanitise' was somewhat unkind and implied we were infected. Tainted our short visit. No reason to doubt the food quality but we were not going to stay. Training needed

Lukewarm food served on cold plates took over an hour to arrive after our starters, yet there were only 6 covers in the restaurant! The indifferent response when I discreetly complained, and no response at all to a later lengthy detailed private email is shody, especially given the lunchtime bill for 3 with one bottle of the cheapest wine came to £200. At the time I chose not spoil what should’ve been an extravagant, but pleasurable special family celebration, but in hindsight I wish I’d sent the food back and ordered bar snacks as we all left feeling very let down. The 2/3 set course price quoted is misleading as the mains needed an additional dish and some dishes on the very limited menu included a surcharge. A huge disappointment. I had previously visited on a Friday in July and loved it, but left this time feeling so put out I’ll never return.

The pub is well-maintained and decorated, inside and out with outdoor seating, albeit typical tables with benches attached which I don't like as they're uncomfortable. Inside, there are a variety of tables and chairs in the bar area and an impressive large back room, perfect for functions, opening onto an outside space. We ordered a seafood platter for two, which was a generous amount and very fresh and included several langoustines, a fresh dressed crab, lots of prawns and large mussels. Smoked salmon is included, too, though we asked to substitute this with extra prawns. The beer was good - a summer ale. We would definitely come again and try other beers and menu items. There is a set 2-course menu at £37.50, which sounds pricey to me for a country pub but judging by our lunch I'm confident that it would be good quality.

This was such a pleasant surprise, in a tiny village to have a restaurant of this quality! Really great wines to go with it, I'll make sure to try the local wines next time. Even the kids menu looked good. My only tiny bit of critique would be that the croquettes could use a bit more salt , but the porkbelly was the best I ever had, the chips amazing, our chickenliver parfait perfect, the prawn salad amazing . Too bad we where too full to try the desserts. Super nice and attentive service and nice clients. What is not to like about this place!!! Was so looking forward to dining here but sadly it was a hugely disappointing experience. We had the roast dinner and it was awful, potatoes were like bullets, chicken was completely overcooked and dry, the Yorkshire puddings was cold and rock hard. The roast beef was so rare it was practically uncooked and two of our party had upset stomachs the following day. Although the server said the beef is served medium rare it was blue. The cauliflower cheese was dry and congealed, the other vegetables were over cooked. Our booking was for 2pm and it felt like the food had been sat under the hot plate for a very long time. Shame, as a lovely decor, lovely team but massively let down by inedible food. We did talk to the team and they gave us 15% off the food but in hindsight we should have just sent the four meals back and ordered from the bar snack menu.

Had been looking forward to eating here for a while as a frequent visitor to the Mount and also the bar, had Sunday lunch with some visiting friends and really really disappointed. Service and staff great, venue fabulous, however food really poor. We opted for the Sunday roast and must say it’s one of the worst I’ve had. Roast potatoes obviously cooked early and re heated struggled to cut through them, we were informed that the beef would be served medium rare however it was very , very rare. I do believe in feedback and we did make the staff aware, we did get some discount and that was appreciated however didn’t make up for the dissatisfaction. This is the perfect setting and the staff are really good, have heard now that Sunday Roasts are not good, but the could be great! Would hope to return however now feel a little less inclined too.

Nice pub. Very expensive for “just ok” service and food. So I live in London and don’t begrudge coughing up £13 for a steak sandwich. But… side of chips was mean and had the privilege of paying a 12p.c. Service charge when I ordered at the bar and they gave our food to someone else by mistake. The Crown at the top of the village was more reasonable and if we come back to this lovely village again, we’d likely eat there instead.

Great ales and amazing sausage rolls, a meal in themselves! Cosy ambience but parking not easy.

Delicious evening meal in a beautiful space with excellent front of house staff. In particular, the barman stirs a mean Negroni.

Always such a great experience when we visit. The food is always fantastic, everything is always cooked to perfection and staff are kind, welcoming and friendly. Very child friendly too and accommodating to our physical or dietary needs, it's always a pleasure to visit!

We ate here as a family on Good Friday (5 adults, 1 toddler). The food service was very slow, we had to ask on at least 3 occasions how long the toddlers food would take to arrive. (Fish and chips, but it didn’t come with any vegetables / anything green. Some peas would have been great!) Quality of the main food was good, but portion size small, particularly the duck main dish. I think our toddler ate more than we did. Room for improvement. Felt expensive Nice pub environment and good decor inside

Wow, fantastic pub in a beautiful village. Cant remember having better pub food in UK. Had smoked trout starter and roast lamb main, both of which were outstanding. The service was really excellent too.

Very expensive for small portions. Half a baguette for £6.50 seemed steep. Chips portion size small for £4. No kids options. Nice atmosphere.

We decided to visit the Sennockian as we hadn't been before and are 'spoons fans. Very nice pub, the staff were friendly, the food came quickly and was spot on. One of the few I've visited where I didn't have to climb a flight of stairs to visit the loo! We were there on a Thursday lunchtime and it was relatively quiet for the number of people there. All in all a good pub in a town centre.

In summary this was pretty terrible. One very new waiter who did his best but… They had run out of 2 types of beer, I ordered a lime and soda. The soda was flat and they didn’t have any more plus it came without lime. The mains passed without incident and the food was okay. ( not amazing but fine) we took the dessert menu but they’d run out off half of the deserts and inexplicably run out of coffee. Underwhelming and we definitely won’t return.

Excellent Sunday Lunch. Visited with my wife’s 91 year old mother to celebrate her birthday. Service was great. My roast beef lunch was excellent and beautifully presented. A shame that the look of the WW2 pub, frequented by Biggin Hill fighter pilots, has been mostly lost though.
