Pity staff on their breaks are allowed to sit in the middle of customers paying a small fortune for their meal, shoes on the chairs eating chips with their hands. This is only ever about weak management!

The welcome was warm friendly, the food isn't "fancy" but it's well cooked with quality ingredients & plentiful, the staff we all lovely & very efficient....and they do a good selection off well kept beer! An excellent place to visit! Well done to you all!

We had a good meal 26th of October 5pm. My wife and I went with our two year old and dog. I liked the menu, I had the loaded fries and lamb kebab dish which was great. Service was fast. My Mrs had the beef off the specials board and she really enjoyed hers too. They have Inches cider too which always makes me happy. We also liked the ice cream at the end which comes from the local Pomeroy dairy. A great place to go after a dog walk on the trail 30 second drive down the road.

In my 75 years I have eaten in many pubs, this had to be up there with the best meals if not the best I have eaten. We ordered the rib eye pork with lightly battered black pudding finely chopped cabbage and silk like mashed potatoes. I normally can't eat large meals but I devoured every scrap. If you have read any of my previous descriptions you will know that I don't give compliments easily. I would totally recommend that you visit the Royal Oak.

Had Sunday lunch here, made a reservation, which I'd recommend as gets very busy. Nice country venue, where muddy walking boots are not out of place. Very good Sunday lunch menu with veggy options also. Service was great and food too. Only reason I went with 4 stars was the price point as just a little pricey, but that said, quality was good and lovely setting.

Great atmosphere, very busy, we had booked in advance. Disappointed with the choice of cider ( only two on offer ) We both had meals - one starter and two main meals. Sauces were top class ( Stokes sauces are the best ones about ) swapped out on the peas as I requested garden peas rather than mushy which were perfect..... however, the batter on the fish was rather soggy and didn't taste nice - the fish inside tasted lovely though and the chips were a bit of a let down.

The site was lovely and organised and clean..staff were super friendly and helpful.. we booked a table for dinner and I am glad we did as it was so popular. The food was amazing and service equally as good.. the site backs onto the high peak trail which also links you to the other site easily and Monyash is a pleasant 30 minute walk. I really enjoyed my stay and I will be a regular camper to these sites. I would highly recommend to anyone - I think it's a brilliant business in a brilliant location. :)

Lovely venue, seated by the kitchen door- (why do venues treat couples to the worst seating?) food was homely and tasty but sauces in sachets are anathema at a "quality venue" charging "quality prices"... Ruined the meal with the Bannoffee pie, just far far too much toffee- was sickly and overwhelming and only four meagre slivers of banana, beer was nice though and the service was prompt and friendly. Not a Gastro pub, per se, but good pub grub always

I recently visited the Royal Oak pub in Hurdlow with my wife, and I have to say, it was a fantastic experience. From the moment we walked in, the service was excellent, and everyone was incredibly friendly. We decided to try the smash burger, and it was absolutely brilliant—one of the best burgers I've ever had. The skin-on fries were crispy and delicious, and the sauces were generous and of good quality. My wife opted for the chicken ballotine, and she loved it. It was really tasty and perfectly cooked. For dessert, we shared the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, which was superb. The sorbets were also really tasty and great value for money. Overall, we really liked the place and highly recommend it. The Royal Oak in Hurdlow is definitely worth a visit!

Cosy country pub, plenty parking, easy access and a friendly welcome. Interestingly different menu - Thai spring rolls (excellent) & Thai green curry, for example. I had the rack of ribs - plenty tender meat & tasty sauce. My wife had the chicken ballotine, which she enjoyed a lot! Finished up with the chocolate brownie & ice cream which we shared. A little bit too easy to hear other folks' conversations! Prices were higher than average, but so was quality of food. Highly recommended!

We’ve been coming to the royal oak for years, the food has always been faultless. I took a friend recently as I told him how good the food was. Unfortunately on this occasion we were disappointed, it looks like there’s been a change in management, different menus and very small portions with an expensive price. £18 for a pie and 16chips with some cabbage is very overpriced. The steak pie had a lump of gristle in as well. Really disappointed as we’ve always enjoyed coming to the Royal Oak. The staff were very friendly and it’s still a nice atmosphere. Just had sunday lunch here for our wedding anniversary ( not that we told them ), we hadn't planned it so booked only half hour before but staff were lovely and fit us in an already very busy restaurant. Staff friendly with quick service, we both had roast, me beef and lee the pork belly. Best sunday roast I've had for years, my photo doesn't do it justice at all. Huge portions of really flavourful food, beef was pink and tender, huge yorkshire pudding which also tasted nice and not bland like some. Lee had a lovely creme brulee with proper crunch top while I rounded off with scoop of local dairy chocolate icecream. We eat here whenever we stay in the area and its always the same great service and food. Also big outside eating, campsite, lots of parking and dog friendly.. can't really beat it. Went for lunch on Easter Sunday. We arrived very early and they were very busy but we managed to have a drink and were seated within 10 minutes. Good selection of food on boards, we ordered a couple of roasts and a couple of kids burgers. We had no excessive wait and were a little surprised at how quickly the food came. It was absolutely delicious. If I had one fault it was that the meat was a lot cooler than the vegetables when it came. I am sure that it how the serving system works and because of how busy it was. The service was great, the beer great and the feel of the place was great too. So, great! I am sure they are busy all the time and deservedly so.

Surprisingly in Matlock Bath there's little in the way of coffee shops! I was desperate for my morning fix, it was raining and we both needed a hot drink after our walk..My wife, said about going inside, The Hodgkinsons Hotel, as we were nearly out of options, I wasn't so sure, however we did. What a lovely surprise, once we went in. Lovely little table and chairs, in a charming building. We had a lovely coffee and tea here, served by friendly welcoming staff. I highly recommend this place...but don't tell everyone 🤫
