First came across this pub last September and fell in love with the place, the food and the service. By chance we were back in the area again in March and just had to go back again. So pleased to see that the young manager was still there running around making sure everyone had a great experience. Can’t believe the guy not only remembered us from last September but could also remember where we sat. Our dog was made to feel welcome, the food was exceptional and the service was spot on. If only this pub was in Bath it would become our local. Who ever owns this pub must be very proud of the service your team provides and the food they serve up.

We had fish and chips and peas we think something was added to the peas but not sure what this was a little spice maybe, this pub is known for its superb food, however the fish tasted very nice but the batter was too heavy which needs to be lite and airy, just average we was expecting something special as you have to go out your way to try these establishments and what they offer.

Food quality is moderate and made up for with quantity. One of the waitresses just stood in the middle lording over people but was basically stood in the way most of the time. Atmosphere was good though and service generally excellent otherwise.

Excellent service and great food. This week we had family Sunday lunch (4 adults, 2 children & dog) from the roasts menu.Mid week we had a very hearty lunch (2 adults & dog) from special lunch menu which was great value. Special mention of the pepper and tomato soup. This evening we had our last meal of the holiday and I can honestly say I have not had a better steak for many years. We will definitely return when next in the Buxton area.

⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Fantastic – A Must-Visit! The Royal Oak in the Peak District is an absolute gem! We loved it so much that we went two nights in a row, and honestly, I wish we could have stayed longer. The staff were outstanding—friendly, welcoming, and they even remembered us and our drinks from the night before, which made the experience feel even more special. The food? Incredible. Every dish was full of flavor, cooked to perfection, and beautifully presented. Whether you’re after a hearty meal after a day exploring or just a great atmosphere with top-notch service, this place delivers on every level. I can’t recommend it highly enough—if you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and go! You won’t be disappointed

Felt the warmth of the place as soon as we stepped through the door. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff and shown to our table.....even though we were 3/4's of an hour before our booked time. No fuss and very much appreciated by our party of four. The ambience of the pub was lovely and it was our 1st visit. The food was excellent, all the staff were so attentive, friendly and made it a great experience to eat there. It was probably the best eating out I've had in a long time.....what an absolute gem. We will certainly be calling back in the future.....when we're next visiting the area.

First visit after our usual place to eat out was fully booked. Glad we made the change! Menu with plenty of choice and a good selection of ‘specials’ too. I had lamb’s liver with spring onion mash and parsnip crisps. It was absolutely delicious. Everyone in our party of seven, enjoyed their meals. We had desserts as well and I was pleasantly surprised that they were all home made and again, totally delicious. Reasonably priced in today’s market and taking into consideration the quality and the fact it’s homemade. Great service and lovely interior. Felt more spacious than our usually haunt. My Mrs had the beef off the specials board and she really enjoyed hers too. They have Inches cider too which always makes me happy. In my 75 years I have eaten in many pubs, this had to be up there with the best meals if not the best I have eaten. We ordered the rib eye pork with lightly battered black pudding finely chopped cabbage and silk like mashed potatoes. I normally can't eat large meals but I devoured every scrap. If you have read any of my previous descriptions you will know that I don't give compliments easily. I would totally recommend that you visit the Royal Oak.

Great atmosphere, very busy, we had booked in advance. Disappointed with the choice of cider ( only two on offer ) We both had meals - one starter and two main meals. Sauces were top class ( Stokes sauces are the best ones about ) swapped out on the peas as I requested garden peas rather than mushy which were perfect..... however, the batter on the fish was rather soggy and didn't taste nice - the fish inside tasted lovely though and the chips were a bit of a let down.

Lovely venue, seated by the kitchen door- (why do venues treat couples to the worst seating?) food was homely and tasty but sauces in sachets are anathema at a "quality venue" charging "quality prices"... Ruined the meal with the Bannoffee pie, just far far too much toffee- was sickly and overwhelming and only four meagre slivers of banana, beer was nice though and the service was prompt and friendly. Not a Gastro pub, per se, but good pub grub always

If you like olde worldy, youll love this hotel however, also bear in mind that to access the top floor rooms, you'll need to climb 45 steps every time so it's not for those with mobility issues. Our room entitled Mayfield was nice but did not deserve to be called deluxe or exceptional and, whilst there was complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits and water, the milk was out of date and curdled the tea and, there were no tissues so you had to blow your nose on toilet paper. Although not the owners, the couple who run the hotel were friendly and accommodating and their breakfast choices were good as was its quality and presentation. Unfortunately however, because there is no bar or restaurant available, you are forced to brave the elements on foot or by car and find somewhere else to patronize every evening. The hotel is well situated to access the numerous places of interest in the locality and there is free private parking albeit up a very steep hill so, drop your bags off at the hotel before you park up.
