Very friendly and helpful good for a male and female to feel safe... cctv all around and nice to have a pint chating with the locals. Beer garden outside which is safe for children. Toilets are spotless and very welcoming ... Good pub in Dovercourt

What a fantastic little place, such a warm welcome from both Landlord, Staff and customers, always doing a great job for the Sponsor A Sibling charity. Thank you for your hospitality on the few occasions i have been there. Still a Great pub tp visit...a.d now my Cousin is the Landlady it's even better...Still doing great charity fundraising events and other superb events...get yourself along

The dogs wakes you up every morning

We went late on a Wednesday night for a beer and a couple of games of pool. Really friendly and good beer!

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon in August, asked if we could order food, and eat outside in beer garden, was told "no food today" then the barman just walked off ... incredibly rude

Just had our Christmas lunch at The Royal Oak. The food was amazing and although there was 14 of us our food was not mass produced. We had 2 in our group that needed gluten free and they so enjoyed their meals. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were amazing and service excellent. We are already thinking of hosting a summer get together

We attended the Royal Oak today for a family "fun con day" with synergy cosplay. The cosplayers were amazing along with the venue. The BBQ that the Royal Oak provided was lovely, food and drinks were very reasonable.

Friendly staff and food absolutely delicious. Only gave overall 4 stars as interior is a bit underwhelming. Food reasonably priced and well worth it

Been coming here off and on for about 50 years. Facilities have changed over the years but the main stand seems much the same. Changing facilities are pretty new - I remember no showers but a large communal bath! Looks like new floodlights and pitch is in good condition. Credit to Tony Armstrong who has kept the club going for many years.

A nice family oriented pub, with food and football watching options, live music and a juke box , good people and friendly staff.

Friendly staff excellent rooms and two areas of seating outside has live football on as well if you want to watch that but there's a pool room and the quieter room so it's a very good bar lovely.

Really nice family friendly atmosphere with great staff. Never seen cleaner toilets, what a refreshing change from the norm! Lovely outdoor seating areas too. Just a great pub doing things properly, I really enjoyed both my visits!

I needed a place to wait an hour before getting on the ferry with my pup. There were only two guests, and the woman behind the bar immediately said that she planned to close early but for me would stay open another half hour, the time I needed to pass anyways. That's very kind to do. I've worked in hospitality, and when you can close you usually do. Got a beer from Steve and then, when the time was there, I drove to the ferry in 4 minutes. The woman behind the bar was very friendly and shared her Dutch family stories. So, is you don't want to wait at customs and further on the boat, just go to the Royal Oak and wait there till its time to board. Thanks for the lovely hour!

Amazing food. Sirloin steak, rump steak and shin of beef all cooked to perfection. Excellent quality. Even the onion rings were lovely. Shame we don’t live in the area would be here every week! Staff very friendly and nice venue aswell!

Had an evening meal here on Tuesday night, the food and service was excellent.All the food was freshly cooked and as good as an restaurant we have eaten in. Good selection of food plus a specials board could fault anything and will definitely be returning

Used to love this pub, met the landlord just after we came out of lockdown, lovely fella, ate there 4 times and food was perfect, went there today the food was awful to say the least, steak pudding was a burnt pie in a pyrex dish, fish batter was dark brown burnt, caulie cheese was hard and watery, the burger looked like roadkill, kids burger bun had all the edges cut off and was stale, the lady from the kitchen said 'had no complaints from the owners and stormed off' the actual chef, a rude rude man very confrontational for a small skinny guy when told it wasn't a steak PUDDING His reply was "its a pub mate not fine dining" we told him about the rest of the food being awful he walked away then came out and took a photo of my children...... God knows why?? Id NEVER eat her again!!!!! also he said dont come back!!!! Rude rude man!!!!

Had a lovely time visiting the Royal Oak. Made to feel so welcome by all of the staff, owners and customers. The food by Jason is absolutely superb, ate there a couple of times and was not disappointed. Fantastic portion sizes and such great value for money would highly recommend

Booked a table for 5 for Sunday lunch. Despite the outdoor area being barely half full our food took an unacceptably long time to arrive because, as we were told, the kitchen was very busy. We were disappointed to have to pay extra for the veg that normally comes with a Sunday lunch, the meals only came with red cabbage and cauliflower cheese, both of which some of our party didn't like due to the sharpness of the cabbage and the cheese sauce. A small selection of broccoli, carrot, and baby peas was available for £1 extra per person but was not shown on the menu which meant we didn't know to order it till our meals finally arrived. The meat was ok and it was good to see a home cooked yorkie but there was too much red cabbage making up for the lack of greens. We were not given a bill or a value, just offered the card machine without being able to see the charge so we had to ask how much it cost. We asked for a receipt but the printer had run out of paper so had to ask for a written receipt. The drinks service was excellent. We had been recommended this place but we wont be coming again.

Brilliant little pub great range of drinks welcoming place

THERE SHOULD BE A RATING BELOW ONE STAR. Popped in for drinks while killing time waiting for the Harwich ferry. Avoid at all costs, Merlot wine is like vinegar, a pint of Wherry was very old, murky and undrinkable, toilets filthy with the cubicles locks missing, broken windows, doors repaired with sheets of painted plywood. Looks like a wild-west pub that gets smashed up by drunken cowboys every night. You REALY don’t want to go there unless you are writing a book on UK’s worst pubs.
