Absolutely the most amazing staff and locals, very welcoming. Couldn’t have helped more if they had tried, a wonderful evening that made our weekend away. Food the best I’ve eaten in a long time. I can’t say enough good about our evening, will definitely be going back. People and dog friendly.

We visited the Royal Oak part of our walk on the Coleridge Way and couldn't have wished for a better rest stop. This place is an absolute delight. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly and courteous staff who made us feel extremely welcome. Gavin was a wonderful host. He even carried my very heavy backpack up upstairs for me. They have a great selection of ales and spirits, fantastic pool table and vinyl collection ! The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful. We had a wonderful evening chatting to locals and slept in a lovely, spacious comfy clean room. It was wonderful listening to the babbling brook outside our room being awakened by the of bird song. The staff here really know how to be hospitable. We felt like royalty.

Booked for family meal out- dissatisfied doesn’t express adequately describe our experience. The actual setting was far different from what we had seen in the internet website and social media marketing. It said refurbished but it was still tired and not what we expected. The menu is vastly overpriced and the food was awful. Children’s menu was only beige food. Having ordered the special of Beef Wellington- cost £36!! I expected it to be amazing.. the beef was tough and inedible and veg overcooked. I sent it back to receive a new dinner but that time the beef was ok but the pasty raw and inedible.. as the rest of my family had finished their food I decided to not eat! My daughter’s muscles (she chose a starter from the adults menu) were also overcooked. If you want cheap and poorly cooked food eat here. We will not be returning.

We booked a table for 5 guests for Sunday lunch, the location is beautiful, the service great but the food was outstanding! The team were incredibly enthusiastic and welcoming. Spence was a fabulous host and very swift during communication for the reservation. We all had different starters and mains and we all agreed that out of all the pubs we have recently visited for Sunday lunch-The Royal Oak at Luxborough is at the top for location, food and service. Great team, fabulous food, lovely ambience. Thank you Spence - we will be back for another visit soon!

£17.85 for small portion of tajine and some dry boiled new potatoes. Was left feeling somewhat exploited. Portion sizes seemed inconsistent with others at the table receiving ample portions.

This beautiful inn nestles in the cute village of Luxboroigh surrounded by stunning countryside and great walks. We came to stay here after seeing it on Four in a Bed where we felt they were treated unfairly. We loved our room with a luxurious bath AND shower plus stealables. Bed and linen was super comfy however the room was cold due to the heating not working (rads need bleeding) Dinner was a game of two halves. My partner had the lamb shank which was excellent tho I had the monkfish which stank so much that the people on a nearby table noticed. They took it back and gave me the seabass which was nice and a free glass of wine and quite rightly they didn’t charge for the meal. Great breakfast. H

The drive to this pub was through a beautiful wooded valley on Exmoor, the Royal Oak looked very pretty from the outside, we had a lovely welcome once we were inside, the fire was alight which was lovely, it was difficult to chose from the menu as there were so many things that sounded good. We chose home made soup (cauliflower cheese) chicken cooked in lemon and thyme with a mushroom sauce and chicken parfait and Venison pie, the accompanying vegetables were just right. Both dinners were really good probably the best we have had for a while. The staff were very friendly.

Wow! A lovely 14th century inn at the bottom of a secluded valley in Exmoor, with character and charm! We stayed for two nights and it was peaceful and undisturbed, in the Exmoor valley. Spencer and his team made us feel very welcome and looked after us well. Our room was just stunning, with exposed beams, a huge comfortable bed, tv, and all the mod cons like Alexa and internet etc. A large window looked out onto the valley with sheep on the hills, and one could hear the brook! The food was excellent, locally sourced, and a good variety to choose from, all fresh. This is one of the nicest inns we have stayed in. It had it all with a pleasant ambience. Lots of nearby places to explore like Porlock Weir, Oare church and the Doone Valley, Dunkery Beacon and all the little villages dotted about. The verges were just full of bright daffodils and primroses. Thanks to all for a very happy few days.

Myself and a friend stayed here for two nights as a base for local walks. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with some stylish touches and decorations. There is a lovely courtyard out back and two terraces at the front from where to enjoy an evening drink or a bite of lunch. The restaurant is wonderful. Fabulous dinner, inventive specials, good wine list and fresh local ingredients. The star of the show is the staff. They were all absolutely fabulous. We had such a great time. A lot of care and attention to detail has been poured into this place. It shows. A real hidden gem.

Many say that Exmoor is God’s.Own Country, and if that’s the case then the Royal Oak Inn is where He must stay when He visits. This lovely Inn is situated in a very peaceful location and is well appointed in every way. We stayed for three nights and dined in each evening. The Staff, without exception, were polite, welcoming and most helpful,. The room, the Mini Suite, was comfortable, clean and competitively priced and the included breakfast excellent . The menu, with several “Specials” was first class and certainly not over the top when it came to cost. All in all, we had a most enjoyable stay and we cannot wait to visit the Royal Oak again. Sincere thanks to everyone who help make our stay so memorable.

What a great pub this is to visit. We received a warm welcome and the service was very good throughout our lunch. The pub has lots of charm and is set in a beautiful location. There is a wide range of menu choices available and the food was excellent. Price wise it was good value for money. Finally, and most importantly for many of us, it is a dog friendly pub! Lots of good walks in the local area if you fancy a bit of fresh air exploring from this location.

Lunch on the first day that things opened up in mid-May. We arrived at 230 but despite the lateness for lunch were given a warm welcome and a delicious lunch. Excellent service and good food. Interesting and varied menu.

We have stayed overnight and have both evening meal and breakfast. Both meals were delicious, cooked to perfection possibly the best meals we have ever had. Venison melt in the mouth, beautiful meat and accompaniments. The burger was a big freshly made steak burger easily the best I have ever tasted. The cooked breakfast was also all freshly made locally sourced meat and cooked perfect. Would definitely recommend. 10/10.

Shocking disregard for Covid laws! We took our elderly parents for a meal this evening and all was ok in the restaurant area but when I needed to visit the loo it was a very different situation. To get to the loos I had to walk through the bar area which was packed with around 30 people all standing chatting with not a face covering or social distancing in sight. I’m not usually one to get too uptight about this but despite politely asking people to move aside they didn’t and I literally had to squeeze between half a dozen to get past and there was no better respect for our parents when they visited the facilities which I find totally unacceptable especially on the day that another national lockdown was announced. The staff were completely ignoring this behaviour and making no attempt to enforce the laws.

This really is a hidden gem & well worth a visit - it knocks the spots off the other restaurants in nearby Dunster - the food is to die for, there’s plenty of it & it’s really reasonably priced - the waiting staff are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive without being overbearing- can’t recommend it enough

Visited this hidden gem for an anniversary meal & have to say the food was fantastic - I had all 3 courses & virtually rolled home but everything looked so good I couldn't resist ......The chef is amazing & the waiting staff were extremely attentive without being intrusive - they had a good knowledge of the menu & were able to recommend things I wouldn't normally have tried. Really was service with a smile & would definitely re-visit given the opportunity - I've heard they do a mean Sunday roast .....

We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Oak and in particular thought the bed was very comfortable. Our room was decorated tastefully and the location is desirable. My only criticism is that not all of the superior rooms have a freestanding bath as your website suggests, and I wish I had known this when I booked as it was the one thing I was really looking forward to after a tiresome day. The food was typical pub grub, nothing amazing but the prices were fair. We would stay again if in the area.

A very good dog friendly pub with rooms. Rooms clean, food brilliant, friendly staff and dogs allowed everywhere. Only thing that could be improved is the guest entrance to the hotel, very tired and need of updating. Otherwise a brilliant stay!

What a fabulous lunch. There were eight of us who ordered a variety of sandwiches, toasties and cream teas. Food was excellent and great value for money. Service was quick and friendly. People have written reviews complaining about the decor which is actually very tastefully done. Besides, with such great food in a beautiful setting why worry about the decor!
