Walked to Corwen from Cynwyd during our summer holiday. The pub welcomed us with open arms and there were plenty of drinks choices, seats, and board games. The landlord is brilliant and witty. Kindly lent us darts to play some games. We really enjoyed ourselves and would recommend to anyone visiting the local area.

We went here during the COVID pandemic in 2020; sadly, this meant that food was unavailable. We were a family of four adults and three small children and had been refused entry to other public houses already. The welcome here was warm and genuine, from the landlord and those locals already inside. Although fairly ordinary from the outside, this hostelry is fascinating on the inside with an old-style, vinyl records jukebox (10p per play), a large selection of games to play and a pool table among the entertainments. The landlord is wonderful to talk to and makes everyone welcome.

We were staying in the area at the beginning of September 2020 - lots of places not even allowing us in as we are a family of four adults and three "littlies". The welcome here was faultless, from the landlord and all the locals. The beers were excellent and very well-kept (my wife and I are retired publicans) and the atmosphere was just wonderful. Our six and seven year old granddaughters loved the authentic jukebox and were entranced by the selection of games available in various drawers set into the pub tables. The only drawbacks were 1. Only open at the weekends due to COVID regulations and 2. No food available, for the same reason. I would recommend this pub to anyone in the area for whatever reason.

What an awesome place this is. Fantastic real pub feeling, decent prices for well kept ale, one of the friendliest landlords I've met in a long time (Ian, lovely bloke), a vintage 50s jukebox with vinyl singles (10p a go!), board games and a chess set in the corner... Couldn't find a fault with the place at all. My only disappointment was that due to COVID-19, they were only able to open one the weekend. Otherwise I'd have been here every day of my visit. If you're in the area, check it out.

From the outside it looked shut, but when the neon sign in the window came on we went in. What a chuffing fantastic place. Authentic 70/80’s decorthat needs updating but gives the place a great atmosphere. The locals go there as they don’t mind a cobweb or two. Some are more chatty than others. Pool table. 1980’s jukebox, complete with 80s records. Great beer and the landlord you could talk to him all day. A true gem. They even have a pound and a penny souvenir machine.

My husband, adult daughter and I caught the steam train from Berwyn to Corwen. At the Corwen end there was a 5 minute turnaround. Instead of staying on the train we ventured into Corwen. We walked the Main Street looked around the Church and Graveyard. All this was very impressive. With time to spare, we went looking for somewhere to have a drink. We found the Royal Oak. The pub was small, traditional and patronised by the local's having a drink. The barman was very friendly. We were made to feel very welcome by the locals. So much so we nearly missed our train. Thanks for a great afternoon we won't forget it. Cheers from your Australian friends!
