Burger deals are fab. I keep coming back lovely for family meal time. Staff are so nice. Will be visiting alot more.

Popped in today for lunch waited and waited for my coffee it finally arrived then when my turkey dinner arrived the gravey was cold sent it back it come out again gravey slightly warm the turkey was dry and the two times before the food hasn't been great really think I'm done eating here

Sunday lunch was OK but ran out of Yorkshire puddings after i got served.

Good food done fast. The restaurant side has a lovely family friendly feel to it. I feel more could be done to separate the bar area from the food area. Can sometimes be a little off putting for smaller children.

I like the roundel its really good great food and the ppl are nice but it takes ling to get your food and its not very atmospheric but its still a mint restaurant go you will like it

Been coming here for years. Staff are always friendly and welcoming, food is decent (burgers are REALLY good), great selection of drinks too and when the weather is good the beer garden is great to sit out in.

Honestly was decent but I have to knock some points off because the cook on the steaks we got was completely off. I got a medium rare and it was more rare especially in the middle not touched by heat but that was fine for me and I will say the actual steak meat was better than I thought it would be. However my partner got medium well and it was very pink inside. I will say that they sorted it straight out and when it came out it had a great medium well cook on it. Overall was decent for a pub and the service was great.

A privilege to have this pub as my local. All members of staff are always extremely polite and courteous every time I visit. Big bonus is the Roundel always has the sport channels on and on my latest visit, I asked one of the bartenders if they would change the channel for the F1 race and they gladly obliged. Couldn't recommend more for anyone and everyone to come and visit this pub, once you visit the first time, I guarantee it won't be the last.

I visited The Roundel pub for a meeting. While the afternoon staff were pleasant, the earlier staff were less inviting. Unfortunately, I stepped in dog mess inside the pub under the table. The food was nice, but drinks were pricey for a chain pub. The interior was grubby, with mismatched furniture and unclean toilets, one lacking a lock and hand soap. Overall, the pub seemed quite run down.

Friendly staff, jukebox, pool table, dart board, weekly quiz, beer garden..... great little nook in Thornaby.

*update* Roundel response is the words Father’s Day have become a sensitive issue within the last 3/4 years for some reason. Quite sinister The roundel have jumped out of their lane into mental health nursing apparently. They think Father’s Day is offensive & an email saying Father’s Day could be cause for alarm., Take your fathers, brothers, sons & family elsewhere

Poor atmosphere from staff and kitchen opening times are incorrect April 2024

First time I've been in over 20 years and really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere, went during the day so do not know what it would be like on an evening. Four adults and two children all had a lovely meal at a fair price.

Amazing service here! Recently visited on Mother’s Day 2024. Although the food wasn’t as expected, the manager Charlotte went above and beyond with her level of customer service. She welcomed us as we arrived and made sure we were satisfied in the end. We have since been back because of her. Thank You Charlotte! You should be commended. Amazing place to dine and enjoy yourself! Staff are amazing and go above and beyond… the themed events are always fun and lots of effort goes in to the preparation! Best pint in Thornaby (in my opinion) and love to be here on a weekly basis! My daughter LOVES the chicken wings!

Nice decor linked to the local area with a large lounge and bar area with plenty of comfortable seating. The food looked good with a range of options to suit most palettes and wallets along with vegan and kids options. The meal was ordered and the steak requested to be cooked medium after a reasonable wait the food appeared and was well presented on the serving platter. The steak was cooked rare and when it was cut bled on the plate, the server took it back and offered a redo or a refund. We opted for the latter finished our drinks and left. We felt that the staff were great but the chef needs to work on their steak game. 10-2-24 Opted for a cheeky dessert and to walk the dogs. Roundel to the rescue. Warm and welcoming to humans and canine patrons rugby on the telly and quick service by friendly staff. Good dessert (cheesecake) and didn't feel robbed by the drinks prices.

Food has deteriorated so much here, everything burnt, overdone and tasteless. Staff can’t even find your table so food arrives cold. Won’t be going back anymore.

Our local been coming for years, only had bad/cold food once and that was recently, apart from that never had a bad meal and a great place to have a few drinks.

We love going here for food. Usually a mixed grill. It's always lovely. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable.

Cheap food and drink. Friendly staff. Never had any bad meal from here even though its cheap. We go often. Edit to review- January 2024- Be careful if you take your dogs into the bar type area. My dog found a chicken bone (there were several more) which must have been swept/kicked under the stand for the table. Dog managed to swallow it- outcome is as yet unknown. I have left to monitor my dogs condition. Whilst leaving I attempted to tell the lone member of bar staff as I left the pub that there were chicken bones on the floor in the bar area and my dog had just swallowed one, so staff might want to check there so that it doesn't happen again to someone. The person didn't even acknowledge verbally or with body language that I told them something a nod of the head or a 'please wait a moment' nor an OK or an 'I hear you'... Nothing. I said to them very clearly, excuse me, did you hear any of what I said to you. They answered yes I did. I said thanks, I am asking because I didn't know if you hear me because you gave no acknowledgement at all. No one is blaming the staff or the pub for the chicken bones under the table stand... But it might be nice if staff acknowledged when a customer has spoken to them. I was not overly polite but I certainly was not rude. I was not impressed to have staff be completely un-responsive when I've told them something which I feel they should know. I'd prefer them to at least respond to show acknowledgement - no matter if they are positive or negative. A response is usually polite regardless of what that response is. Will I return... Debatable. I may try it once more... But if staff are not responsive to customers then I doubt it. Until this date I have always given this pub a great review. Very sad.

Food was somewhat dry ... Specially the chicken.... Quite cheap food and beer. It is ok pub though in this price group.

No real ale , very disappointing as Green King IPA is a favourite of mine. Found this in the black bull, bangor, north wales. Very nice.

My mam went on Wednesday and the food was terrible. Hard veg, cold and extremely under whelming. Very disappointed and may not go again which is a shame because its an opportunity to meet up with friends.

Great pub in Thornaby! Meals are really great value and you can get 2 meals for something like £11.99. Xmas decs are up too #festive #xmas.

Atmosphere was let down by extremely loud music, difficult to hold a conversation. Also didn't expect to see babies and kids in the pub after 8pm. We left after one drink.

My husband and I went for a lovely meal at this friendly pub. The service was very good and the food is always good quality.

Thank you becky for the amazing service and breakfast. We didn't want a big meal and asked about the breakfast, Becky explained it was only small as it was aimed more for an OAP . She said it was no problem to do for us and I have to say it was perfect especially after 2 hours at the hospital. The breakfast came with fudge cake but we said we didn't want it but becky asked if we wanted to take it home so she kindly boxed it up for us . Thank you also for finding my mams bank card which was a drama in its self !! Got home opened the cake and Wow it was huge. Becky is definitely a credit to this company, bubbly and so helpful along with an other girl who helped. We will be back . Excellent service and food. Thank you .x

Very friendly staff made us feel welcome. Two meals were ordered and were served quite quickly. Unfortunately the steak pie was disappointing, it looked lovely but the pastry was quite heavy & there wasn't a lot of meat. The chicken skillet on the other hand was really nice. We would return for another meal as this is the first time we've had an unsatisfactory meal.

The service is amazing here. Becky behind the bar is funny as and can have a good laugh. Georgia behind the bar is lovely and can have a great convo. Overall, a great place to eat and drink.

My football team were hosted at the Roundel after our game with Middlesbrough. Food was.kaud on fir both teams.

Came here for grandads funeral reception, great atmosphere, quick service and very polite staff with a sense of humour. He was well known here and you could see the respect that they have for him.

Decent meal, chilled night at the Roundel with friends

After visiting the roundel unfortunately I feel I need to warn people not to order the chicken on flatbread, it looked lovely on the picture small fresh pieces of chicken off the breast, but when it came the chicken was dark and was the slimey pieces from under the chicken like the left overs, I feel sick today thinking about it

The only problem I have found is you get charged £1.95 for a single measure of lime juice cordial this is extreme extortion beyond belief which actually spoils the pub being a great place to eat I cannot see how they justify charging that for a splash of cordial that they water down as well its outright robbery n this has put me right off

we were here last Thursday 4 adults and 2children we were greeted with a what you having then the girl got confused with what I'd ordered then apologised with a sorry my heads up my arse today.1 hour and 15minutes later no food had arrived so I went to ask how long it would be shortly after 2 starters arrived then 20 minutes later I went to ask how long the main courses would be 10 minutes later they arrived tasteless and cold must have been sat ready for ages and obviously forgotten about hence the long wait. one of the girls asked if the food was ok we said no but she just walked away.Unless things change drastically we will never go back.

I’ve been here a few times and this time it was shocking. Firstly the drink sizes were horrendous we all ordered pints and we all got a glass 3/4 full. I explained it’s not full and I got told that’s how we do it here. Personally if I pay for a pint of something I want a pint. Secondly the bathrooms were a mess and outdated. Only one of the doors would lock but that one had holes in the door. And there were no toilet roles in any cubicles. I work in hospitality and I get if use are busy u may not realise but it wasn’t that busy at the time. The food wasn’t good either the chicken burger was dry and bacon was burnt. Then ill the waitress took our plates while my grandparents were still eating. That’s one thing all waitresses should know is not to take plates until everyone is done. Worst off all they didn’t ask if she could take the plates. I would say the only good thing was the parking and disable accessibility

Lovely meal, the staff are great, but the ladies toilets are a disgrace

Reserved a table for 3 adults and two children as it can get busy at lunchtimes. Started off well with table reserved and friendly staff gave the children colouring pens and drawing paper when they asked. We ordered the meals and drinks and when the meals,came out that where the good start came to an end. The kids mashed potato was hard and looked as if it was frozen mashed potato which had been microwaved..the garlic ciabatta bread was so hard the kids couldnt eat it...adult fish and chips were awful. Fish looked as if it had been cooked in old oil and was all curled up and burnt. Chips were hard. I didnt touch any of it. I did tell a member of staff who got rhe manager to refund the cost. Piri piri flatbread was not much better. Fatty chicken thigh and again dry chips. When a member of staff came to take away the plates she didnt ask if everything had been alright as they ususally do because she could see from the plates that the food obviously hadnt been alright. £33 for 2 adult meals (as one adult wasnt eating which i think they were relieved about )and 2 kids meals (minus £8.95 refunded for the fish and chips) and drinks was reasonable had the meals been edible but to be honest we would have been better going to macdonalds. Wont be going back any time soon .

Visit to The Roundel began well enough with easy parking facilities, but soon took an ominous turn when greeted with rowdy kids and teenagers blocking the entrance area (to be expected at this time of year - summer holidays - if I'm being charitable). Nonetheless, not entirely the pub's fault for that, but the quality of food, the price and service certainly is within their remit. On the service front, the staff were pleasant, attentive and quick. The food, though, was particularly poor. It may look deceptive in the photo, but this version of a double cheeseburger meal was burnt to a crisp and dry as a bone. For £20, too, the cost didn't mitigate the poor quality offer. Compared to, say, the Norman Conquest in Normanby, I'd have to say The Roundel is found lacking and only really worth a visit if no alternative is available (hint: there are plenty of better alternatives nearby).

Eaten here several times and food and service are always fantastic. Recommend the Golden Oldies breakfast and desert for £4.49 - absolutely delicious and such a bargain too

Average pub food but an extremely disappointing decor. The toilets are an absolute disgrace and the outside areas are covered in discarded cigarette butt's. What could be a very inviting pub is falling really badly behind.

Some of the staff are quite friendly others will walk of whilst you're talking to them and are outright rude. Ordered one of the chicken dishes and it was just an assortment of frozen food for £10. The outside area is really nice when it's dark out and the lights come on and is a nice great place to sit on a summer night. Great atmosphere.

Not too bad, as the weather was really hot it was very busy so bar service was slow. People just push in, booked table was taken by someone else so staff member gave us someone else's. Sat in the corner and the large arrogant woman next to me refused to move her chair in so 4 of us had to move whenever I needed to get out. Food tasted fine for microwaved meal.

Probably deserves 3.5 stars. Pub is one of the better ones in Thornaby. Covid rules are being followed, we were asked to download the track and trace app before entering. We ordered the drinks and lunch through the Greene King app. The drinks took around 10 mins to arrive and the food followed about 10-15 mins after that. Food was ok, the sweetcorn was very juicy. Everything was cooked well, the meal would have benefited if the chips were home made. Staff were courteous but going through the motions with the exception of the guy who was in the door welcoming and seating people. He had a personality about him. The staff did come round twice enquiring if the food was ok, which it was. All in all the pub is quite nice. It was lovely to sit outside in the sun, the tables and parasols looked quite new and it felt like there was plenty of space around us. The bill for two drinks and two meals was just under £25.
