We live locally and over the years have eaten at the Roadmaker but not recently. This evening we ordered a take away, Onion Bhaji, Samosa's both with salad and a chicken tikka starter. I didn’t feel I needed to check the food before I left the premises but later found there was no salad, that was a minor issue. The biggest shock came when we opened the chicken tikka container and found four small pieces of chicken each measuring about half inch square, the dish was £6.75 thats £1.68p for each piece of chicken. I called a member of staff at the Roadmaker to complain and was told thats what you get. After pointing out £1.68 for a small piece of chicken was unacceptable, he offered to give me a free chicken tikka starter the next time I ordered. We won’t be taking up the offer; that’s so disappointing because it’s our nearest restaurant

This was a great find. I was told that was nowhere to have lunch in Newent town centre (I don't mean nowhere good, there was nowhere! I had seen this inn just after leaving the M50 and thought it looked nice and worth a try. What a lovely surprise! First, there was no music/noise of any kind when I entered the bar. Second, although I expected the usual menu - fish and chips, gammon etc - it turned out to be a Nepalese curry house! Wonderful! I had Himalayan lamb curry with came with rice and an interesting addition which I thought was a roti, and was delicious as was the curry. Oh yes and there is fish and chips on the menu as well.

Heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and was very disappointed. 4 adults and a child went there yesterday 10/12/21 and the lunchtime food was not good. My wife and the other lady had the salmon which was dry and over cooked. I had a curry which was completely tasteless and chips that was cool th say the least. We really should have complained at the time but because it was so cold in there we were glad to get out. Not a very nice experience at all.

We're back in a year and already looking forward to eating here then too.We sat outside by the fish pond and loved the chilled little garden space. Food was amazing and be recommendation was spot on. Service was perfect and we have to praise the staff member who was nervous of dogs for getting to know our very large mutt! I enjoyed the Chat Pat starter which was fragrant and beautifully spiced, followed by chicken saag which I ordered hot and really enjoyed. Children were catered for too with friendly classics of chicken nuggets, sausages etc. Honestly the best curry I've had and I blooming love a curry!!!We really enjoyed taking part in the quiz too and chatting with locals and staff. Having worked with Gurkhas the week prior to visiting the restaurant I was excited to try some authentic Nepalese food however this was far from it.On arrival the restaurant has an appearance of an old traditional British pub, far from your traditional Nepalese/Indian restaurant. With an open kitchen we were shocked to not even have the smell of cooking spices being used in the restaurant. We were seated at our table for 8 efficiently, 3 of our party were already there before we arrived and by the time we had sat, taken off our coats and were handed a menu the waiter was at the other end of the table ready to take our order! We asked if we could have some drinks whilst we study the menu rather than order straight away. On returning with the drinks the waiter tried to take our order again, I am aware they get busy with takeaways but it felt very rushed in wanting to take our order. To start we chose some traditional Nepalese 'Momo' with a dipping sauce which was tasty and felt homemade. However the mains were a completely different story. We ordered several different curry dishes and accompaniments, however they all tasted of the same creamy sauce, which is not authentic to Nepal at all. The best way to describe the appearance was YELLOW, no traditional spices and flavours seemed to have been used and tasted like a jar sauce with some different levels of curry powder spice for mild, medium or hot. The chicken was not fresh and tasted frozen and boiled. The Roadmaker Inn is not a traditional Nepalese restaurant and is more of a very poor attempt at a western style Indian. Which obviously seems to be what the people who highly rate this place must enjoy.

A small group of us come here every year just before Christmas (and occasionally at other points throughout the year). The food is always very good with decent portion sizes. As this is a country pub, you also have the benefit of a vast array of beers and ales on tap. The highlight has to be the service. These guys are very accommodating considering we are a group of lads and can often be loud - we always go in the bar area to ensure we don't disturb the restaurant. We plan to come here regularly for many years.

Curry restaurants can be very similar, so finding one that's a bit different without that difference becoming gimmicky is unusual. The Roadmaker Inn is run by Gurkhas so the difference is the Nepalese influence - but it remains authentic. If anything, it's a bit understated, leading to us ordering "medium" dishes that were both on the mild side - good quality, but I will look for something with more bite next time. As it's a pub too, you are not restricted to the Cobra/Kingfisher choice of beers too, which makes a nice change. Definitely worth a second look.

We went to the restaurant with some customers, the popadoms were good, I then had samosas, they were huge, too big, but just consisted of potatoes and nothing else, no spice, and bland. I then had vegetable pathyia it consisted of over cooked potato, one strip of carrot and a piece of broccoli in a very sweet thick sauce, with again no spice, this should be a medium hot dish. We also had very over cooked and quite hard rice. Embarrassing for all as customer and supplier none of us wanted to complain. When we left the restaurant everybody commented how poor the food was, our customers said that the food was normally so good, and were quite shocked by what we were served. Possibly a change of chef, or just a really “off” night . I’ve had more spicy cottage pie in the past.

We've eaten early on both occasions and I think that pays off as the place gets very busy later on. We've had really good service, prompt arrival of each course and good advice on the menu. The bahjis are to die for, never had anything like those before. We really like that each course has been really full of flavour without being unbearably hot. My friend and I were camping near the Roadmaker and decided to get a takeaway as the reviews looked very favourable. It was the worst takeaway food Ive ever eaten, we paid over £30 for a prawn curry, chicken vindaloo, saag dish and vegetable noodles all apparently authentic indian/nepalese. The prawn curry was like butternut squash soup with a a few prawns in, the chicken was like tinned/processed chicken again in a curry powder soup and the noodles were spagetti in soy sauce! I would strongly discourage anyone with a pallette to avoid this place.

We are staying in a cottage locally and working our way through the restaurants recommended by our hosts - this was certainly the best that we had visited. We had Vegetable Samosas and also the Gurkha Special mixed meats as starters - these were HUGE plates and delicious but rather too big for a starter, the sizzling meat platter would have been perfect as a sharing plate. We followed with the Nepalese Lamb which was great, succulent pieces in a lovely sauce, we had ordered the medium strength and it added the flavour without overpowering with heat. Cost of £69 for two without dessert was a little steep, as the small individual bottles of Merlot were ‘inoffensive’, rather like airline wine.

We booked in at 7.30pm and our main arrived at 9.50pm. we were offered two drinks during that whole time. By the time we got our food neither of us were that fussed about eating it. If you are too busy to accept bookings don't accept them.greed isn't an excuse for over committing. Sadly after this experience I won't be returning. If you are going for a long meal with wine and conversation the food won't let you down. But if you want attentive service and reasonable waiting times for food. What an unexpected surprise to find a really good curry deep in Herefordshire. This place is run by a bunch of charming Gurkhas for whom nothing is too much trouble and who clearly care that their customers have an enjoyable experience. Look past the swirly carpets (which really could do with replacing) and the food is fantastic - an open kitchen where you can see everything being prepared. This is the last time I will ever eat food from The Roadmaker. Went to pick up a takeaway for my partner's birthday. What struck me first is the unsmiling and rude staff. The food is no better than any other curry house in the area yet the prices are steep. I struggle to understand why people rave about this place.

Friendly and efficient as expected from the Gurkhas who run it. The curries were superb with interesting Nepalese variations. Cosy and very welcoming.

Been looking for a halfway house to meet family on a Sunday, tried a few then noticed that the Roadmaker did Sunday Lunches. Well Nothing ventured nothing gained. What can I say, good car park, inviting, clean toilets. Friendly and obliging staff. Choice of Sunday Roast, Curry's or fish or scampi and chips. All at a reasonable price. We have been three times now and usually 3 have curry and one the roast dinner which I was told was very nice. Thoroughly recommend the Bhaji starter.

Always a polite and friendly welcome. The owners have kept the local trade in the bar and added the restaurant very successfully. The kitchen is open to the restaurant, it is spotlessly clean. The cooks are often very busy. The food is good. Service can be rather slow, except when it comes to asking you to buy more drinks! Very good nan bread.Takeaway is available but I often don't get everything I ask for! A bigger car park would be good. A little pricy in comparison to some other equally good Indian restaurants locally.

We visited this weekend for a family meal and although the service was quite slow the staff were super friendly and the food was nice. Would go back again.

Do not waste your time or money eating here. Marketed as Nepalese this establishment is little more than a poor Indian style eatery. The dishes we were served were basic, dull and unimaginative. The Sauces all looked the same apart from the seemingly added colouring. The chicken meat looked and tasted like economy fare. Desserts were limited to factory made bought in ice-creams.The table we sat at was so dark a torch would have been a useful to see what we were eating. The staff appeared to be more interested in plying drinks to customers than serving food efficiently. The bar area was noisy and unappealing. We will not be going anywhere near this place again and would not recommend.

We usually celebrate our anniversary at the Roadmaker Inn, but had to cancel this year due to ill health. We decided to spend our last night out there, and are so glad we did. We ate early and were the first diners there, and were greeted as friends by the self-assured and kindly staff. As usual, we ordered RaRa chicken as a starter and we both agree it is the nicest food that we have ever tasted. The chicken breast is marinated in cream cheese and cashew nut sauce and cooked in a tandoor oven. The chicken remains white with slightly singed edges, and is very tender. It is served with a small salad which compliments the chicken. We would both like to have RaRa chicken as a main course one day. Our main course was a chef special which we normally avoid. We ordered it hot and were not disappointed, and the kulfi was essential as a sweet. We have never failed to enjoy a meal at The Roadmaker Inn, and look forward to returning next year. Oddly enough the friend who told us about the Roadmaker has not eaten there, and I have told him what he is missing.

We had a lovely meal here. The menu is huge so it took us a long time to decide but we went for the noodle broth which was amazing. Particularly loved the beef brisket. The staff were so friendly and helpful and it was reasonably priced. I would highly recommend.

2nd time visiting with a friend for girlie catch up And we love it! Eyes bigger than belly this time but wanted to have the best of both worlds and have our favs plus trying new things. Tempura veg- crispy and fresh Salt and pepper squid - generous portions and large sections of squid. Satay chicken - our fav! Gorgeous sauce Prawn toast - very nice portion size and very tasty! My personal fav- moo wan. Sweet, crunchy garlicky pork! With sticky rice is perfect. My friend had chicken pan any which she says was perfectly spiced and plentiful paired with jasmine rice! Very cosy restaurant where you’re treated with authentic Thai food. Can’t wait to go back

Look. If you want a really smart place with silver service and damask napkins then don’t come. But if you want amazing food and very friendly then this is the place. I eat for the food 😊

We've just had a really lovely dinner here (3 vegetarians, 1 carnivore). Very flavourful dishes, with a good variety of choices. Extremely good value. Thanks Sam!
