The Rivington Grill in Bolton

Absolutely appalling, Luke warm potatoes, overpriced on every meal, eg sausage and mash consisted of two nearly burnt sausages, about the equivalent of two tablespoons of mash, few vegetables swimming in dark brown gravy , one starter lobster in pasta style squares with a tomato sauce , they were swimming in a tomato sauce that looked and tasted like a tin of Heinz tomatoe soup had been poured over them the lobster consisted of the size of my small finger nail if that you couldn’t taste the lobster ,in each parcel, one of the main meals king prawn with rice etc, no way were these king prawns, they were the same size or maybe smaller than the bag of prawns I buy in M&S for £5 , I had Lemon Sole they couldn’t really cut back on this as it’s a piece of fish , so you are safe, but as mentioned the roast potatoes accompanying this were soggy not crispy and Luke warm, there were four adults and a child , the service was very slow took an eternity to wait for dessert, not that I had one because I knew it would be a rip off, but the child doesn’t know any better,so had a dessert there was another two meals I haven’t mentioned because it is tedious , I am sure you get the drift ,we had one drink each the bill was £160 , got charged twice for the dessert, I didn’t know this until my partner showed me the bill yesterday, as we live at least an hour away from this place , have not got the time or patience to complain , I am in my 70s and have obviously been in many restaurants, I can only advise people on my own experience,but I would definitely never go back ,

Absolutly shocking service, served me a steak well done and chewy brought it to their attention to be told there's nothing wrong with it. Safe to say I didn't eat any of the meal and paid full price over £20 for it another member of staff asked if everything was ok and I mentioned it again and just got a sorry. I then went to pay and I had an item on my bill I hadn't ordered and the man preceded to argue with me that I had had the item when I hadn't, I then noticed I'd been charged for more drinks than I had and he was very rude looked at me very annoyed at which point I told him he clearly is annoyed with me it's written all over his face yet I'm the customer and I've paid for a meal I haven't been able to eat ! I wouldn't mind but the same man dropped 3 drinks all at once all over my chair before we ordered ! I was polite with that accident and said no problem yet the service I've received in return is unacceptable ! Will not be returning ! (The lady server and the younger staff was lovely and accommodating no reflection on them at all)

Had my first visit here last week here with a couple of friends. The decor is very tasteful, staff very friendly and welcoming. Lots of choice on the menu to suit all tastes. Even though there were quite a few people dining, we didn’t have to wait long for our meal. Food was absolutely delicious, so much so I decided to return the following week with my husband. Definitely recommend. There is parking at the rear and there is some outside seating.

Dreadful: FRESH FOOD prepared there???!!!‼️… they mean frozen then overcooked … dry, hard breaded and tasteless goujons that resemble burnt sausages. Worst ever Caesar Salad… insisting flat oily green leaves is a CRISP ‼️salad… give me a break! This kitchen is for reheating food!!!

booked a table at the last minute, they managed to get us in no problem at all. we was seated straight away, bought drinks from the bar, hubby had a guiness which he said was lovely just as it should be, the rest of us had san Miguel which went down a treat. they gave us time to read the menu and make our selections. The waiter was lovely and so polite, nothing was any trouble. The food arrived within a reasonable time, a was absolutely hot. We ordered 3 different dishes and all 3 was perfect the lamb Henry was so delicious, The steak and Ale pie was tasty and the flaky pastry was perfect. Hubby had sea bass and said it was excellent, to be honest if I had looked away I am sure he would have licked his plate. The desserts was lovely we had sticky toffee pudding it was delicious and scalding hot, the others had Lemon cheesecake it was very lemony and smooth. So, please give this place a go, its one of the best restaurants I have been to. I left feeling like I had eaten a bowling ball I was so full. The only negative and this is nothing to do with the food or the staff. The toilet seats both needed fixing . So please take a trip down, you will be very surprised. Well done chef and thank you and thank you to the waiters on our table, who work tirelessly to make our dining experience the best.

THE WORST DRINKS EVER I got a Guinness which poured in a manner I’d never seen before. Definitely the worst Guineas I’ve ever had. The misses had a strawberry daiquiri for some reason the bar man put tap water in the shaker with the ingredients Angin

Staying nearby so we used this place to eat three nights on the trot. Admittedly it was Mon, Tues and Wednesday nights but we couldn’t fault the place. Very welcoming and attentive guy doing the waiting, large menu, hot and plentiful food and probably the best chips I’ve had for a while. Monday I had prawn cocktail and rump steak, not bad but lovely salad and sauce. Tuesday, Whitebait and Pork chops, very good, then Wednesday the black pudding and the mixed grill which was a carnivores delight. Couldn’t knock the place from what I saw of it and the staff we dealt with were excellent. Well done!

Really wanted to leave a 0 for this visit but for it to register it has to be a 1! Imagine the scene, it’s Mother’s Day and your husband has booked the table for the family of 4 at 6 o’clock. We get there at 5.55 and the waitress checks that we’ve booked and seats us at a table for 6, we check that she knows there’s only 4 of us and she says it’s fine. We start to look through the menu. A couple of minutes later and the waitress comes back and says a family has just arrived with mobility issues and would we mind moving to a table upstairs? No not a problem, so off we go upstairs. It then takes a further 15 minutes for someone to take our drinks order and then a further ten minutes for our food order. The starters took almost 30 minutes to arrive- garlic bread with cheese, garlic mushrooms and ribs- the ribs were burnt to a crisp! Our main courses then took a further 45 minutes- I ended up asking how much longer we were going to be waiting- 5 more minutes. Everyone around us was complaining, there was food going back to the kitchen too!!! When the food arrived there was no etiquette from the waiter, although they couldn’t apologise enough! After paying our bill I asked to speak to the manager, who I was told was far too busy. I spoke to another waitress, expressed our concerns and our disappointment and how much the poor waitress, Georgia, was running round upstairs on her own, however the lady I was complaining to seemed to find the whole situation funny!!!! Next time we will stay at home!!!!

Extremely slow and horrendous service. Food wasn't great either. We was waiting so long we didn't have time for desserts. Absolute shambles.

This restaurant is excellent. The staff are great, attentive and very welcoming. The waiters and waitresses work very hard and are upbeat, friendly and good fun. The food is wonderful with plenty of choice with something for everyone. We enjoyed many dishes, all of which are excellent. We can't praise this restaurant enough. We will be back soon.
