When we first arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by a waiter and showing to our table in the restaurant which had very little atmosphere and you would have been able to hear a pin drop. A waitress then brought us the menus and the wine list over and asked us straight away what we wanted to drink. We asked if we could have some time to look at the drinks menu before ordering. The waitress just nodded and walked away. We looked over the wine list and decided to ask the waitress when she came back if there was a drinks menu. She told us that there wasn’t so we decided just to order a bottle of Rosé Wine, a large glass of White Wine and a large bottle of Prosecco. However when the drinks arrived we received a glass of Rosé, a glass of White and a small bottle of Prosecco. The waiter disappeared before we had a chance to say that it wasn’t what we had ordered. In the end we were actually grateful of the wrong order as the quality of the Rosé and Prosecco was disgusting and would have struggled to have more than one glass. The starters then arrived and overall we were happy with what we had ordered. However one of us ordered the Duck Platter for £8 and was very disappointed that the dish only contained 4 small thin slices of duck. When the starters were cleared away we only had about a 5 minute wait before our mains were brought to the table. Which felt very quick and rushed. The mains looked very appetising and we couldn’t wait to tuck in. Once again though we were met with disappointment. The Steak dish was cold and the chips were very greasy and had no taste aside from grease. The Pork dish was overly seasoned with pepper to the point that all you could taste was the pepper. The pork dish was also meant to have walnuts but where they were, we couldn’t tell you. The pasta was very over cooked. We were going to complain but we felt that the waitress and waiter didn’t have a clue to what they were doing and saw no point in doing so. We asked for our bill to be brought straight away once the mains dishes were collected and left our table as soon as we had it. We felt that the bill total was not reflective of the quality and that the menu is very highly priced. We needed to pay at the reception area and had a rather prolonged wait for someone to actually come and attend to us, despite the restaurant not being busy in the slightest. When someone finally came we paid with card and were appalled when he asked us to add a tip. We quickly said no thank you and paid for the meal. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and would never eat here again.

The Craighaar restaurant has been our favourite place for a few years and we really looked forward to coming back after covid closures etc. It was an utterly disappointing experience, my 8oz ribeye steak turned out to be a quarter of an inch thick piece of boiled meat, not fried, and the port and stilton sauce watery and tasteless. My French fries came out as chunky mushy chips so there's obviously a lack of knowledge and skills in the kitchen these days. So, from recommending the restaurant we were proud to bringing friends and family to, we'll now keep them away from the place.

Visited this local restaurant for the first time in a long while last night for dinner for two. The menu options are varied and reasonably priced without being overly extensive (a good thing in our opinion). Service was attentive albeit a little inexperienced but this did not impact our enjoyment of the occasion. Music was refreshingly low key and appropriate, with candles on all tables a nice ambient touch. The restaurant was only part full, about a third, and there was a pleasant vibe with the noise level very low making conversation during the meal comfortable and easy. The food was well presented and very good quality, as were the G&T;'s and the wine!

We took our six year old grandson to the Craighaar for lunch as he wanted fish and chips. We phoned the hotel and were advised that a half portion of fish and chips would be made available to him. When we arrived, the dining room was totally empty with two waitresses on duty.. We were told that no half portions were available as the fish were all 'very large'. On that basis, I ordered fish and chips for my wife and I and a side plate for our grandson so we could share our portions with him. When our meals arrived, the fish were not 'very large', but rather small. They were breaded and reminded me of frozen Findus fish fillets from a supermarket. The chips were large and soggy, clearly not fresh from the fryer. The salad was limp, dry and quite unpallatable. The fish was far from the quality I expected in a hotel. We asked for tomato sauce and were given a small terrine with just enough for one person. My wife had to seek out the waitress in order to get another portion for herself. When we finished the meal, we, again, had to seek out the waitress to request the bill which, she said, would be put to the reception. I have never before eaten anywhere where I have not been given the opportunity to inspect the bill before leaving the table.A very disappointing visit to the Craighaar. I can see why the dining room was completely empty and we certainly won't be back.

As you will already be aware Aberdeen for accommodation is a nightmare trying to find a place to stay over expensive in most cases, so I looked at Booking.com and found the Craighaar Hotel it is a bit out the way and if you want to go into Aberdeen for dinner or drinks I would think the taxi fare will not be cheap. Good car park, friendly reception and willing to give you advice, nice room very clean but too much cramped in. The shower has a wet floor which could be a real problem not installed correctly as the water was heading for the door so the towel saved the day. Food was average the breaded haddock was a bit crisp, breakfast was ok. Would I recommend staying yes but shop around.

So, we couldn't be bothered cooking and couldn't be bothered getting buses into town - time for the Craighaar.Met at reception desk, directed to dining room and quickly seated with menus, wine list and drinks order taken. While waiting for starters to arrive, we got a small tray with locally sourced sliced bread, butter and small bowls of flavoured oils. A nice little appetiser.I ordered the sauteed chicken liver & chorizo in a creamy marsala sauce - very tasty and quite a plateful. My partner ordered the soup of the day (mixed vegetable) which was also judged as very tasty.Main course was grilled fillet of red snapper with puy lentils, marrowfat beans and mangetout, on a tomato fish velouté, garnished with a king scallop. I was hungry, so I also ordered a side of new potatoes. Delicious, filling...what more can I say.My partner ordered the Butter roasted bone-in chicken supreme, with a wild mushroom and potato gratin, served sliced, resting on sautéed leeks and fine green beans. Again, this was delicious although she felt there weren't enough mushrooms for her liking.Plates cleared and we weren't fit for a dessert. I forget what the cheesecake of the day was but I was sorely tempted. The Craighaar Hotel is really close to our house, so it's always somewhere we think of going if we fancy a meal out. Over the years we've had a few family parties there too and everyone has said they've enjoyed their night. Ate here again recently with friends. It surely has to be one of the most stylish restaurants in the Aberdeen area. Beautifully designed and furnished. The bar/ lounge area is gorgeous too and ideal for relaxing with a post dinner drink. They also have an outside seating area which will be nice in warmer weather.Food was really very good indeed and nicely presented. An odd addition to my main course ( chicken on a gravy base) was a couple of raw tomatoes which just didn't sit at all well with this hot dish. Service was attentive, if a little "dry" depending on who was attending to us. All things considered though, we had a lovely meal in very comfortable and pleasant surroundings. I'd recommend the Craighaar Restaurant as, with a few adjustments, it could be perfect. Giving it a 5/5 anyway.

After visiting this restaurant for years with very happy experiences and great food, my Mum and Dad took me here for my birthday meal. I ordered the on the bone Sirloin accompanied with the traditional garnish of tomato, onion rings and mushroom. I had asked for a rare steak. Unfortunately it was not rare, it was well done. As soon as I could (7 minutes or so after our meal arrived) I alerted the wait staff, they apologised and ensured I would be provided with what I ordered. They did so as soon as possible but unfortunately the rest of my party had finished their meal quite some time ago. I voiced my unhappiness with the service and the wait staff did what they could to make things better. I.E. deduct the cost of one of my desserts. However, personally, I felt this was not enough. Having being a regular customer and frequent recommender of the Craighaar. I wish you could have done more. I will continue to visit but I feel this criticism will do you benefit.

I think the hotel has recently been refurbished with the bar being a very comfortable area for a predinner drink. The restaurant is very nicely appointed with lovely tasteful furniture and we had a table at the far end of the restaurant in the bright and airy conservatory type space. The menu is quite varied, the food excellent, service really good and for what we had - predinner drinks, 5 starters, 7 main courses, 2 bottles of winre and coffees - less than £ or perhaps represented really good value. Being close to the airport, it's popular with travelling / business people but well worth a visit for a family dinner or a quiet meal for two. Would strongly recommend it.

Visited with the family for an impromptu diner. Three of us went for the burger which was simply an average burger and I don't think it was worth the £13.95 price tag....little thin frozen chips a patty and bun, some relish and a slice of cheese. My Wife had the lemon sole which was the best of the bunch but it should be at £16.95. The sea bass was OK but the sun dried tomatoes clashed hugely with the dill tasting sauce. Overall the restaurant looks really nice and up market, however for the price the food needs to improve if they expect to get higher reviews. Not sure if I would return.

Dined here for lunch with an elderly friend. The staff were lovely but when the food came mine was horrible. The haddock was dry and tasted as if it was frozen fish from a packet. The dish of mushy peas was like vinegar and there was no tartar (or any) sauce with it. The salad was completely tasteless with no dressing. My friend had the special which she ate without complaint but did not specifically say it was good. The only reason I did not say anything at the time was because she was treating me to lunch and would have been upset if she thought I had not enjoyed it.I eat out quite a lot and this is by far the poorest offering I have had in a long time. The only reason I have not marked it poor is because the staff were charming and particularly kind to my friend.

Good to be able to choose from a "light" menu as well as the full whack. In fact, the light item (fishcakes) was quite a big plateful. Special of the day roast beef was well done (no choice about that) but came with well-cooked veg. Seafood came with a white sauce that didn't taste of much but the fishy items sitting in the sauce were ok. The nicest thing for me was the fudge (or was it tablet - we thought so) that came with the coffee. Friendly staff. We had the place completely to ourselves, which was a bit surreal, but they didn't make us feel unwelcome.

OK for business purposes but would not select for holiday or weekend destination. Food is poor quality and I fear much of it is badly sourced and possibly from the freezer.

Me and my Friend enjoyed our meal. Lovely dining area, attentive waiting staff, nice touch of a plate of very tasty bread and butter while waiting for our food. Plenty of choice on the menu. Decided not to have a starter but both enjoyed the main meal which was well cooked, generous portions and very tasty. We then both had desert which was excellent. Overall a very enjoyable visit.

I have to say, I have a bit of a soft spot for the Craighaar. It is homely a a pleasant place to be especially if you are on your own.The hotel has had a bit of a makeover and the restaurant has certainly been improved as a result. It is a lot more 'classy' than it used to be. More importantly, the menu and food itself is now truly excellent, at least based on my experience this evening. I started with haggis neeps and tatties soup followed by breast of chicken wrapped in ham and filled with cheese and accompanied with dauphinoise potatoes. It was well presented and flavoursome, in fact delicious. I'm staying again in a few weeks time and will most definitely dine in the hotel again.

Met my Australian family fresh off the plane and took eleven of us off to this restaurant where we had booked the week before. when I arrived I was shown through to the bar and was told my party would be in the bar. I had to question them 3 times to confirm their actual intentions was to place us in the bar and then move us through to the restaurant. It was apparent until later they actually wanted us to place our order then move us when they were ready to serve! Our food came out and apart from the steak burgers none of the food was as expected, we had not been told certain meals came without potatoes/chips/pasta etc so had to order chips which helped to remind about the chips they already had on order. The sauces were tasteless, the spices were still gritty in some and one had ordered the pork noodles and ended up with a large part of the intestine! (yes my mother is well aware what it should look like) I was quite disgusted when I was made aware of what was going on!!!!The sticky toffee pudding felt uncooked and almost like it had sand added to it.As I did not want to upset my family I had not seen in ages I had not complained about my own but had not realised about everyone else until the bill came and we had it reduced. But it ruined their first night in Aberdeen and I certainly will never go back again!

A meal was booked for nearly 40 people and the restaurant we were put in was elegantly prepared with covered seats. The tables were all well laid out with jugs of iced water on each table. The friendly staff could not have been more helpful with drinks orders and then dinner orders quickly and efficiently taken. Any concerns over the time for the food to arrive were quickly dispelled with all dishes arriving at the table on/in appropriately hot or cold crockery. No staff fingers touched any of the plates etc when serve which whilst basic hygiene, frequently does not happen. On my table 7 of the 8 chose the sweet potato & courgette soup which we all agreed was a very good decision. The main courses were again enjoyable apart from the accompanying potatoes & carrots which I suspect had been cooked slightly too early and were not as firm as I would have preferred. The deserts let no one down and to my surprise an excellent cheese & biscuit option was available within the set price of £25.00 per person. Altogether a very enjoyable dinner was capped of by some good strong coffee with top ups available as required. A quick look around the hotel at the other public areas and one of the other smaller more intimate dining areas left me in little doubt that I would gladly return in the future. My only slight other disappointment was on leaving when the receptionist was unable to give me the recipe for the sweet pepper & courgette soup.

I occasionally stay at the Craighaar. The hotel itself has a Fawlty Towers feel about it with basic rooms and service in the bar that can be quite poor (staff tend to cover both bar and restaurant duties). The restaurant is not bad at all. Menu variety is ok but rarely changes - a bit of an issue if you stay regularly at the hotel. There is a daily 'special' soup starter and main course, but the starter has been known to be the same for a couple days presumably when they haven't sold it all first time around. To be fair, I don't think I've ever had a bad meal, but equally I don't think I've had one that I would class as excellent either. This time, I had pigeon salad to start which was ok, followed by a good quality sirloin steak. The hotel has no restaurants in the immediate vacinity other than the Dyce Tandoori, so pretty much has a captive audience. As with many hotels, this has probably made it lazy in its outlook regarding the needs of its customers. Nonetheless, I've eaten in much worse.

The secluded booth style tables helped to give a feeling of privacy. There was an excellent selection of Fish on the menu. My Halibut and my partners seabas seemed fresh and well presented. The portion size was about right. The cosey bar with wood panelling and central open fireplace would have been a great place to relax after the meal but there was no ambiance as it was surprisingly empty for a weekend evening.

We called in to the restaurant at the craighaar last night. I ordered a tuna nicoise and my partner ordered a rib eye steak. The tuna nicoise was covered in a sauce that was frankly disgusting. Very strong but with no real taste. The green beans were raw! My partners steak was tough and inedible as it was so tough. At £12.00 for the salad ( which we were not charged for) and £18 for the steak. This 'meal' cost £25 including drinks. The only saving grace were the chips and mayonnaise and they managed to stave off the hunger pangs. We could have saved quite a lot by going to McDonald's for their chips!! Will never return to the craighaar!

Well....where to start! We wen't here for a birthday dinner and I can say we won't be going again. The biggest grip was probably the poorly trained staff - or perhaps they just didn't care. The lady who "seated" us just dumped the menus on the table and said "do you want a drink", she then took the drink order and then we didn't see her again for 15 minutes. She didn't explain what specials there were and just generally didn't seem to care. The food arrived in a pretty timely manner but quality was very variable. My Chicken Liver and Mushroom Pâté was pretty bland, my sons scallops were overcooked and the other two starters were nothing to write home about. The main courses were also variable as well. My wife's medium rare steak was on the well done side of medium, my sons fish was again overcooked but to be fair my beef "Rossini" was medium rare as requested and tasted pretty good as well. My daughters pasta was...well pasta! That's all that can be said about it, quite nondescript really. I've attached a photo of the bread that arrived (timely it has to be said) as an example of the schizophrenic nature of this place. When we requested the bill, the same lady that seated us just simply said "you pay at reception". My biggest complaint here was the service, not once did anyone ask how the meal was, empty glasses were just left on the table to accumulate (along with the wine glasses which were unused as we did not order wine - not that we were asked if we wanted any mind you).In all, very disappointing when a bill for 4 came to £115 and that only included 3 drinks. This place could be good but was a huge letdown on this visit and the service led me to mark it overall as "Poor" otherwise it would be "average". We won't be back I'm afraid.

The Craighaar was once a hive of activity and the meals served then were excellent. We decided to visit recently and have to say it was a disappointing experience. The barman was apparently new as he didn't have much of a clue. The waitress who gave us the menus and drinks order was pleasant but when she took our food order she didn't ask if we wanted to order wine. Our starters were very good apart from the black bits of avocado in my crayfish salad. I ordered the monkfish and it came with a huge dollop of mashed potatoes on the plate and a small piece of spinach underneath the fish which was slightly overcooked. The fillet steak was ordered as medium/well and it was pink in the middle. This was served with burnt onion rings and some sort of potato chips, as well as a mushroom and tomato. Presentation of both dishes left a lot to be desired. The bill was £89 including sparkling water and two glasses of wine. Expensive I thought for the quality of food. There was a distinct lack of atmosphere which was not helped by the absence of waiting staff to see if anything was required. We could have complained at the time but it wouldn't have made any difference-I pointed out the black avocado and the huge pile of mashed potato on my plate to the waitress who just looked at me and said nothing. We will be voting with our feet as we won't be going back. Shame as the hotel itself has a nice welcome feel to it. The lack of experience of the majority of staff lets it down.

Well I will likely stay here again as it is a favourite with our company and this is likely its down fall, I have read others comments about pasta dishes and I would agree was over cooked could have used more fresh tomatos but wasn't the worst either. Enjoyed a decent glass of red wine meal and a pint in open comfortable bar which made up a bit for mushy overcooked pasta. breakfast was Ok with decent choice. Room was compact and clean usual tubs of stuff to wash with if you ve forgot to pack shower gel. Wifi @ £5 ropey in room, comes and goes checked work emails good enough for that.

I stayed at this hotel recently, 12/06/13 and had an evening meal. First course of leek and potato soup was fine but the Steak was burned. I smelt burning when the plate arrived and should have mentioned this. The acrid taste had spoilt the steak and sauce. I complained to the waitress who said would pass this on to the chef.No one returned to the table and after waiting for 10 minutes I gave up and went back to my room. I was not offered another meal.In the morning I was charged the full price of this meal, not impressed. I think becuase I was staying booked through a company and on company expenses they were not that bothered about customer service.

2 colleagues and myself visited the restaurant today and we had an altogether below average experience. +'s Reasonably nice decorStaff well presented-'sWaiting time for drinks orderWaiting time for food orderQuality of pasta-chorizo dish was fairly poor. Basically a tin of tomatoes stirred into over cooked pasta with some chorizo thrown in for flavour. Pork dish was swimming in gravy and served with soggy parsnipsChicken ciabatta sandwich was akin to a child portion (albeit admittedly this was from the lunch menu). I did raise the quality issue at the end of the meal and was offered apologies but nothing much else and in fact I was interrupted whilst trying to explain to the member of staff in question our issues and our bland experience. Although the manageress did approach us to find out how we were doing, it was literally our second or third bite of the meal and my only gripe to myself was not finding her thereafter to complain at the time. This was probably as a result of the time we had to wait in the first place for our dishes. Anyway, I have had nice food before at this restaurant so we came away disappointed so I hope the comments I made are taken on board
