The Restaurant in Watford

The food prepared by the students is amazing and the students that served us were very professionally and well presented. Very polite and friendly. The price for the 3 course meal is excellent it is £18 per person. Would recommend a vist. It is open for dinner on a Tuesday, Wednesday and a Thursday evening. Just need to call west herts college and book a table from 6.15pm till 6.45pm.

The very poor marketing of this restaurant really lets it down. I was contacted on Thursday about going on 30th April to an Italian evening. I replied yesterday, Sunday. Today I am told there are no places left. I looked at the website to find an alternative date but no dinner menus are available after 12th March and it is now 1st April! Surely successful marketing is part of running a successful restaurant. It should be part of the job of whoever decides on the menus to upload them to the website. How to do that should be part of the course.

Would highly recommend, food was delicious and waitress amazing, and price was fabulous! If you haven’t been, you need to go!

Our first visit today for a Tuesday lunch. Wonderful to see the students being able to train & practice on the ‘real public’ We were warmly greeted by one of the students into the training restaurant & shown to our table which was nicely presented. Martin our waiter today was professional, polite & attentive. The students were all under assessment today so must have been quite nervous but they all did a great job. The tutors were very friendly, guiding & teaching at all times. Marie one of the tutors was particularly helpful & took the time to talk to us after our lunch, even squeezing in a booking for us on Valentines evening which I believe was already pretty full so that was much appreciated. As an ex-college catering student & trained chef myself it was so lovely to come back as a customer & support these wonderful students in their passion to work in the catering industry. The food itself was of great quality, everything prepared & cooked from scratch, really couldn’t fault any of it & so beautifully presented too so a huge well done to the chefs in the making who cooked for us today! Needless to say, we are really looking forward to our next visit in February & will without a doubt make this a regular lunch/dinner date. Please give it a try in supporting this young talent in the making, you will not be disappointed & at such an amazing price (£12 for 3 courses!!!) what’s there not to love.

Went to "The Restaurant" yesterday & had a lovely festive meal. The quality & standard of food is 1st class. Very family friendly. I attended with my baby & they were very accommodating & even heated up my baby's food. The student waiters & waitresses were very attentive & professional. I will definitely be returning. Its fantastic value for money.

Amazing lunch with a group of friends. We had the Christmas menu and everyone enjoyed their food. It was three courses with soup or smoked mackerel pate to start , both were lovely. Main meal was Christmas dinner or salmon again both came really well presented and very tasty. Dessert was Xmas pudding and custard or panacotta again both great. Finally mince pies and tea or coffee. The pastry of the mince pies melted in our mouths. This was certainly as good if not better of local restaurants I have been to and of course was great value. Really good having a licensed bar so we could have a glass of wine with dinner. The staff were really polite and tried so hard they were a credit to their tutors.

Had a great lunch today. Smoked salmon pate, stuffed peppers and chocolate mouse. Great value and lovely staff.

The food and service was of such a high standard. It was Spanish night, there was a great variety of flavours and everything was so tasty. Connor was our waiter and he was so helpful and friendly. We will definitely visit again.

We are regular supporters of the Training Restaurant both because of the excellent food and being able to support the next generation of chefs and front-of-house staff in developing their skills, supported by their great tutors. Always good value, particularly the occasional evenings with wine included. Shame the St Patrick's Night event had to be cancelled due to coronavirus. Look forward to seeing you again once things are back to normal.

Ate at the college restaurant last Thursday. Restaurant laid out beautifully. The service was being run by catering students who have only been training since September. We were made to feel welcome from the minute we arrived and the excellent service continued throughout our meal. We felt like we were being taken care of, without being smothered. The choices on the set menu were enough for the 3 of us to choose from and clearly marked with allergen advice. Front of house were friendly and obliging when we asked for a few things to be changed in our dishes and happily provided exttra sauce, etc when we asked for it. At £9 for 3 courses, it was excellent value. Can't wait to go again!

Surprised to find this restaurant so low on the Tip Advisor list. We'd been recommended by neighbours but hadn't yet visited as the restaurant is only open at term time and then only midweek and not during exams. Moreish home cooked rolls to start with, faultess starters of soft shell crab (incredibly light batter) and salt/pepper squid and excellent mains of blackened seabass and skate wings (off the cartilage) followed by tarte citron and ice cream cake. Delicious - washed down with a lovely chablis. Yes there were a few faults - bit heavy handed with the salt on the skate and a couple of waitering faux pas - but if you realise the meal is prepared by students one cannot help but be impressed. It puts some of those so called 'professional' Watford restaurants to shame. Exceptional value.

Even though this restaurant is only open term time with the college it is a great place to meet up with friends. Its cheap and cheerful with great service from the students and supervised by fully trained tutors.

We visited last week to try the Spring Dinner Menu. The food was all beautifully cooked and there was a good selection to choose from including meat, fish and vegetarian. I had the Prawn and Courgette Salad followed by Supreme of Pollack with braised lentils and mango salsa, finishing with Pear Tatin all for £13. The Beef a la Bourguignon was also declared very tasty. Our waitress couldn't have been more helpful. We will definitely be back.

Popped in mid week on the off chance we'd get a table for 3 and we did, we were seated quickly and made to feel welcome. Drinks orders were taken promptly and arrived quickly, our 2 course lunch order was taken, the server memorised it and repeated it back correctly which was a nice touch. We had the arancini and the haddock as starters and then all had the mushroom stroganoff as our main course, everything was great! The lunch deal of £6 for 2 courses is a real bargain, the food is a very high standard and apart from the servers being a little nervous there was nothing I could improve on. We'll be back next term.

I have been eating at this restaurant for years. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal.I ate here on Tuesday at the fish night and once again was really impressed with the quality of food and the excellent service.Three delicious courses for two with wine was £34.50. Whats not to like.It puts many of the local pubs to shame.

Had lunch here with a friend and was very enjoyable. Food was good and great service, very reasonably priced and lovely ambience. Will definitely return!

Excellent food as always. Been here lots of times and consistently good. Students are very polite. Very good value for money and pleasant surroundings.

I've eaten here about half a dozen times, and each time the experience has been brilliant. If you don't mind an early start and a slightly limited choice you get top quality food at really really cheap prices cooked and served by students who are really keen to give you a top quality evening out. Drinks are also cheap and so is the coffee afterwards. I've been involved with several group outings here, and on each occasion the staff have gone out of their way to make us feel welcome. You do need to watch out for the limited opening days and times though, and I'd recommend booking in advance - it isn't very big. I haven't tried lunch here yet, but I plan to soon. Prices are again very reasonable.

Lovely students who work professionally in this stylish restaurant. The meal was fantastic and provided great value for money with 3 courses and a decent glass of wine at £12. I particularly liked the toblerone and chocolate lasagne :-)

Great ambience, attention to detail and service. Food imaginative and good value for money! Have introduced quite a few friends to the restaurant who had a wonderful evening and confirmed what a 'Secret Gem' this is. May it long continue at this professional level and price.

We have been a number of times and the teachers and students are always so welcoming. Great food with all different themes and even special nights including a play by other students. Food prices a bargain as you are basically paying cost.

I booked at table at the college training restaurant at 11am and by 12 noon we were seated and treated to a beautiful lunch. The staff and students were amazing and prepared the vegan dishes without any of the usual fuss. Really good value, excellent food and great service from charming students.

I visited recently on my lunch break with some friends and was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism of the staff and tasty food, all by excellent student chefs and waiters! Would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

I had lunch today with a group of work colleagues at this restaurant within the college near my work. What a great place for a bargain. As I understand the whole place is run by students under the supervision of Leah who took my booking. Simple food cooked well at a superb price. Can't be beaten for value

Visited the West Herts College restaurant for a Christmas dinner with work colleagues before we broke up for the Christmas Holiday. Food was excellent and the service was great. The restaurant has a really nice layout and we really enjoyed our afternoon there!

Lovely 3 course meal with fantastic service. Great place to go for lunch, reasonably priced and right in the middle of watford next to the town hall.
