Fantastic 2 night stay in the B&B rooms above the family run gastro pub. A warm welcome (even to an Englishman 😂) from everyone both sides of the bar! Dog friendly and very much a countryside theme in the decor throughout. Close to many scenic attractions including Carly ruins, long empty beaches and shopping. Several cask ales on draught and a full compliment of wines and spirits. Full menu from breakfasts, lunches, and evening meals using local produce. Real fires and cosy rooms to have your meal. Clean and stylish rooms to relax in afterwards, with a good night’s sleep.

6 of us went for evening meal. Only minus was that I thought the potato skins starter for 2 small pieces was overpriced and pizza could have done with a little more filling but other than than the service was excellent and all the dishes we had were very good, I had beef and stilton pie which was very tasty. Salmon risotto was very nice

I went with my parents for a family meal out and the experience wasn't unpleasant but the food was nothing to write home about. I had fish and chips and the fish was soggy inside, not much flavor at all and the chips were so subpar. I honestly could have cooked better fish and chips from my freezer at home. It's very much a blokes pub for a few pints and watch the sports, it definitely wasnt the best meal we've had for the price of around £10 per person. To be fair the service was very friendly, can't say a bad word about that. Just the food was nothing special.

Our 3rd visit to this pub. If away in our caravan we try and time it so we can walk the dogs at Pembrey then come here for Sunday lunch. They don't permit dogs inside but there's a few outside tables. At £10.50 for 3 courses the lunch in incredible value. Today's choices were mushroom soup or veggie spring rolls and sweet chilli sauce to start, beef or turkey for main and lemon meringue pie, rhubarb crumble or banana bread and butter pudding for main. Hubby and I both opted for veg spring rolls which arrived swiftly, piping hot with a nicely dressed salad on the side. Fresh baked bread rolls and Welsh butter accompanied the starter. The roast dinners were lovely, the veg in particular was seasonal and so tasty we wondered if it had come from an allotment or veggie patch. Proper home made roasties plus a really tasty new potato too. Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and a jug of extra gravy. This is not a churned out generic pub Sunday lunch. This is like a lunch your mum or grandmother would have cooked. No 'al dente' veg here, it's 'properly cooked' as my hubby would say. For pudding we both opted for the lemon meringue pie. Clearly homemade the pastry was crisp and buttery, the lemon curd tangy and the meringue top just the right amount of crispness on the top. I'll even forgive them the squirty cream on the side. Family run, the service is personal and attentive. This place wraps you in a big warm hug and is why we'll keep coming back when in Carmarthenshire

Not sure what the secret is! Cabbage was perfect and the beef was like butter!! Followed by lemon sponge & custard served piping hot and very tasty! Called in on Saturday evening with my 2 teens as i didn't fancy cooking. As usual Gwen made us feel very welcome. Great service and very accommodating with the choices and even asked the chef to make up one of the sauces without mushrooms as requested. Normally i can manage my steak blue but owing to overindulging on Friday night I was feeling a little fragile but even when I asked if I could have it cooked longer so my delicate tummy could manage it Glenn was happy to cook it to me taste and when it came back to me it was delicious and meant my hangover from the previous night was soon chased away. (with the help of several orange juice and lemonades) We even managed deserts and can recommend the crumble and custard, very tasty. Would have no hesitation recommending the Red Lion if you are looking for hearty fare and a friendly warm welcome.

My son and I are very fussy eaters and when ordering our food we asked to swap and change things for our meal. They were very helpful in doing this and it was no trouble for them. Despite only living a few miles away, this was my first visit to The Red Lion in Pembrey and it won't be my last! It was a freezing evening and our group of 10 had dwindled to one carload - 5 of us. We all ordered different meals and everyone enjoyed their food. My steak, with a jacket potato and peas, was delicious. Friends had the freshly beer battered fish with chips or potatoes. Each meal was attractive and very tasty! The special dish of the day didn't disappoint either - pan-fried chicken. We were even tempted by the puddings - trying the waffle with strawberry ice-cream and a knickerbocker glory type ice-cream sundae. Well done and thank you! - See you again soon.

We were in the area on holiday & wanted to take my mum out for her birthday. The landlady was very polite and showed us to the conservatory as it would be quieter. My mum being in her 80's has an allergy to onions, and having told her, she could not do enough for us. Willing to make sauces & certain meals specially. Some (like pies) already had onions in, of which she was very apologetic. The food came out efficiently and and was beautifully cooked and very tasty.Would definitively return and recommend

We chose this nice little pub because it had good reviews for home cooking. So the four of us were shown into the conservatory into old pub style bench seats and given the menus. It's not extensive but certainly enough to give us four some thinking about what to have. Food was clearly cooked fresh and came after about 20 minutes. It was all piping hot and plentiful. We had two different curries, a steak and a lasagne. Puddings followed and coffees. In the meantime the bar was buzzing win darts match and Rugby World Cup being shown live. A really great pub. The food was very nice (the curries were very mild and could have done with a little more spice) and the service friendly.

Wonderful food, as usual! The steaks we had were all cooked absolutely as we asked for.Watched the big rugby match and the landlord Glen had his lovely waistcoat on and although the result wasn't good for our English contingent, we all thoroughly enjoyed our night eating and listening to the banter and the "singing"?!

... Small local pub ... friendly atmosphere ... run by a lovely family... very welcoming ... we were a group of 8 ladies ... various ages ... a hen party. Some of us played pool and darts. The drinks were very reasonable and the lager was well kept and a good there was a small but good choice of alcohol. We all had fun and felt relaxed. The Sunday dinner was beautiful ... one of the best that I have had in many years ... homemade and fresh ... 3 courses at an truly amazing price. Service with a smile ... efficient and friendly. This served as a lovely end to a special weekend ... You really must try this pub ... !!!!

Just visit Wales and stumbled across this pub one evening, it was getting late and the wife and I decided to eat here. To be fair I didn't think much of the inside, dark and small so I wasn't expecting much from the food but to my surprise we had a lovely meal I had the gammon steak and the wife vegetarian lasagne which she enjoyed, it tasted like proper home cooked food :) if your round that way I would definitely recommend it

We recently booked and visited this establishment for a Sunday roast / 93rd birthday party, (not me by the way!) as we were staying locally for the weekend. Well what can I say!!, as soon as I arrived, the outside looked like someone’s house in this tiny, yet beautiful village, however once over the threshold it became apparent how large and beautiful the inside of this pub was, even Doctor Who would’ve been impressed with this tardis! I and another family member were greeted by a warm and friendly faced landlady, and she was a lady! Asked where we were from and made us feel incredibly welcome, then she let herself down by undercharging us for our pints £4.50 each!! At home in Wiltshire I pay £6.50 for the very same pint. We were shown to our own large table (11 people), set on our own. This restaurant was impeccable. The food was perfect with some difficult family members dietary requirements, even the chef came to the table which turned out to be the landlord, what a nice guy he was too. This place was so good, I felt only obliged to buy the landlord and landlady a drink to say thank you for looking after us. After giving the 93-year-old the bumps to celebrate, we left happy and fulfilled. Thank you guys!
