Beautiful location. Fabulous food. Friendly and efficient staff. The online menu that can be set to exclude specific allergens or dietary preferences is a huge advantage over the usual appearance of a thick ring binder which takes half an hour to work through.

August 2024... We are not local but are regular visitors here for meals as a family when visiting friends in Lichfield. Quality and variety of meals are excellent and reasonably priced. Portions are generous. Staff are welcoming and service exceptional. Consistently good. I particularly love the steak sandwich, fries and mushrooms and tarragon dressing. Sunday lunch was fabulous yesterday - roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and at least four veg.

Great pub good food staff very attentive

I would have given them 5 stars for everything. But then that says no room ever to improve. It was a fabulous meal and great place that I'm looking forward to going back to. 99 out of 100, thanks for being so good.

Interesting menu...certainly not inexpensive...but good venue

Excellent venue for a family member with Coeliac - was really surprised at how seriously this venue takes Gluten Free food. Who knew that you could have "Beer battered Fish" which was Gluten free. Well Done Red Lion, we will certainly be back

Very lovely old pub. Friendly helpful staff. We were in a bug group and they came to the table for food orders, not everybody ate. The meals did look lovely.

This has to be the most petty PATHETIC pub I have ever drank in been coming for nearly two months. It's nice inside and in a nice area however it's the staff that let this place down .Every couple of days on and off I've been coming here,got on with the staff and customers.Only to be told by the manager that I was Barred and as I asked why he said that we have had complaints from the staff AND customers. I then asked by who and what about but he wouldn't give reasons,this is one of them places that if your not local or your face does not fit they will think of any excuse to get rid of you. The only thing I could think of was yesterday when I went in for a drink the assistant manager Beth was talking about tattoos with two of the customers at the bar. She then lifted up her dress/skirt to show a huge tattoo on her right thigh leg,she then walked round skirt up showing off this tattoo, I asked her how much that cost but she then started acting wierd with me. About ten minutes later I asked her for another pint she said yes then walked off into the kitchen I was waiting for a little while then she sent out another girl to serve me. This was very unprofessional !! This place is definitely in the Longdon CLIQUE !! AVOID !! If your not from the area of your face does not fit like mine did then they will just Barr you without giving proper reasons.

First time for Sunday lunch today, will not be returning. Roast beef rubbery, roasted potatoes hard, greens under cooked. Total waste of money. Would not recommend.

The place has a nice atmosphere but we waited nearly an hour for food. Our party had fish and chips, chicken pie, ploughman’s and steak baguette . The ploughman’s was over £19 and not value for money. There was the tiniest piece of cheese on it and we had to ask for more. The steak baguette had very little steak on it and the baguette was so hard I couldn’t bite it. I sent it back and the second one was the same. We were charged full price for it and not even given a dessert as a goodwill gesture. Not impressed. Not a cheap place to eat so they should be top notch but unfortunately they are not. 🙁

It was my first time here I had Sunday roast I had lamb 🐑 it was excellent it fell of the bone 🍖.I will be back.the staff was excellent the inside was very nice and clean.

Really lovely lunchtime meal here. Beautiful quality and well presented food and staff were all super friendly and accommodating. Beautiful setting with a spacious outdoor area with tractor and swings for children to play on. Really enjoyed our trip here! Highly recommend!

Good country pub in a nice setting,,nice pint of neck oil ,and a glass of cold dry rose ,we were well looked after by leah in the bar area , food was good ,pate followed by steak burger for me linz had scallops then lamb pie with mash and veggies all very tasty

Bad atmosphere because of bad management

I ordered a burger and fries. The fries tasted and looked exactly like aldis, but were mega salty. The burger was tasty but the bun was crushed and dry. The sauce it came with looked manufactured (bottle) and tasted like it. All in all a very uninspiring meal. Partner had cheese pie, that was tasty but expensive for what you got, again not much in the way of veg.. Disappointed with both meals really.

Would recommend booking a table, as it was extremely busy. Staff were very pleasant and professional. Food was great.

We had my Grandmother’s 90th here today I am full of excellent food, the Pork Belly and Lamb pie were exceptional All my relatives loved the various dishes they had, and the menu was extensive The staff were very attentive and did well putting up with our general poor organisation haha Many thanks to the ladies who were serving us, they were very polite, hard working and have a laugh with us.

Food & service here is just superb. The Latchford sausages are massive & delicious! Staff are friendly & very attentive. Atmosphere & decor is just so. Tables are well spread so room is good for all, whether you're a couple looking for a quiet meal or a table of 7, as we were, celebrating a birthday.Enjoy!!

Overall we were left feeling disappointed. Having the cost of a meal (Sunday mixed roast) removed from our bill was fair although I was left feeling that there was something not right about our experience. The other 3 plates arrived with the look of something missing. Just got that feeling. I don't normally wax lyrical in a poor review but this just left us feeling sad. It could be a so much better experience.Prices seem to be top end but the quantity is not and the quality of the food was also mixed. The Sunday roast arrived cold and was sent back. Another meal arrived hot but the roast beef was again spoken about - pink versus uncooked beef is a difficult debate but, as I stated' this was not charged for - roast potatoes were also solid. Smaller puddings and coffee were nice but £8.95 seems a top price. We have just got back from Rome and ate well in the city as tourists - but didn't see prices like these. Perhaps Brexit is having more of an effect than I thought.Service in restaurant was pleasant but a little noisy. We did ask for a quieter table if possible, but perhaps more fool us for going on a Sunday. Nice room , pleasant clean tables, daily menu cards, responsive polite service, good parking - shame about the food, really.

Staff are second to none. We've been going for meals for a few years now, but we visited with our new puppy for the first time tonight and the staff were EXCEPTIONAL. They were so polite asking before giving treats, heard we were trying to confidence train the new puppy so kept popping by for gentle fusses. Supplied treats, a dog bed, dog toy, and there's even a fantastic doggy menu (which we will defo be ordering from in future!). We had some lovely bar snacks/appetisers for ourselves and had an overall lovely Saturday evening :)

Food sunday was beautiful.. But what's going on with th veg...costs nothing....do you want us to pay for veg....bring a bowl of veg that cost nothing...make it a proper sunday roast....no veg lets it down big time...3 out of 5.....you could make it so much better for an average sunday dinner cost of £21 for a bit more veg that costs nothing ...penny pinching tbh

Didn't have any food. Mein Host was polite and efficient serving in turn accurately and with charm. My party sat outside which was easy with many tables.

We loved it here! It's like a fancy country pub/restaurant. The service was really good and the food was delicious! The decor and vibe in there was perfect. It was quite busy and I definitely recommend booking, but it's popularity speaks for how good it is and service wasn't effected at all considering the restaurant was full. Dogs are allowed in the bar area and there is plenty of on-site parking. There is a lovely outside area and beer garden too which I imagine would be lovely when the weather is nice. Strongly recommend coming here, we will definitely be going back.

We booked for a 7 pm sitting on a Sunday but never again! No roast potatoes, no new potatoes and no roast chicken. I appreciate it was a late sitting but someone didn't do their sums right to gauge how much food would be needed for the amount of bookings they had ! Our booking was made 7 days in advance. Totally disappointed considering it was my sisters birthday and we had to go elsewhere .. Will not be recommending !

Booked for my daughters birthday on a Saturday afternoon. This review is very easy, excellent food, excellent service with a lovely atmosphere, our 3.5 hours flew by with no pressure from the staff to leave our table. We only wish we could have stayed all night. Would most definitely book this place again, thank you to the team from the Red Lion.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere

If you’ve not been here you should. Was a delicious meal portion size was very good. Service was great. Would advise booking as it’s popular and I can see why.

Booked for Sunday lunch as our son was visiting for the day and wanted somewhere relaxed with good food. Having eaten here before it was an easy choice. As always the service was lovely, albeit the younger staff were clearly very nervous and a little unsure of things with it being so busy and some larger tables in as well. I have a food allergy and having eaten here before I was not overly concerned, but having not eaten here since Summer I should perhaps have taken a closer look before booking. I was limited on starters and both options were mushroom based, good job I quite like mushrooms. I picked the Mushroom and Taragon Charlotte which was extremely generous in size but the bread had not been coated in oil, or vegan butter or anything for that matter and it was very dry. The content was pleasant but considering the charlotte was one of bread it needed a sauce. It was ok is the best I can really say, Mains was were I really did struggle and everything had milk in, not much offer of assistance from staff when I asked if there was anything that could be tweaked and they were busy so I did have some sympathy. I ordered the nut roast and left hungry. The nut roast itself was more like mashed butternut squash with nuts, there was no structure to it and it came looking like a lump of mash on my plate, I saw another come out shortly after which held its shape but was still not a structure that a normal nut roast would follow. The gravy was overly sweet but ok.. The roast potatoes were lovely but lack of care left 2 on my plate that were black and rotten and clearly should have been thrown away. Desert was sadly awful and returned to the kitchen, rice pudding which was a slab no moisture in it and when you took a spoonful it was like a slice of rice pudding, if only the nut roast had been this way.. Overall I was bitterly disappointed when I have had such a lovely meal before. The staff were apologetic and gracious but in a busy Sunday lunch service I think the kitchen were challenged beyond capability.

First time visiting the family and couldn't fault it ,loved the food 👌

If we had not have been with elderly relatives I would have kicked a massive stink up. Goan aubergine, sweet potato and check pea curry just had sweet potato no sign off other ingredients, rice was cold, curry to sweet and serving size not value for money. Staff took ages to come to use despite us going in to virtually empty restaurant as early booking. Really not what I expected. Will never go again.

Excellent - but I also remember it back in early 2007 when it was a proper olde worlde pub with just 1 room and i'm not sure if it even had a hand pump. I went back a few years later to show a friend a real old fashioned pub and it had all been done up.

Good service and range of beers but they were mainly about serving lunch. We had only gone in for a post walk drink and were expected to sit outside ( yes in January).

Very disappointed with the amount or lack of food on our plates. 3 of 4 of us had turkey all inconsistent. We were all the disappointed and did not consider any portion to be of adult size. There was not a table check until we finished our mains at which point we told a member of the team that we were disappointed they apologised but did nothing to remedy the situation. Every portion came out differently some had one sprout some had non, turkey was inconsistently portioned one only has a slice when others had at least 2. The food itself was delicious we felt you were banking on people having 3 courses. We felt deflated and extremely disappointed. Thank you Pat Burrows

We celebrated hubby's 80th Birthday with the family, a party of eleven. Our meals were pre booked from the Christmas menu, as there were so many of us. The meals, all came out together so no-one waiting. The food was excellent, very attentive staff who looked after us all. The Red Lion was decorated for Christmas and the atmosphere was lovely as there were many people and families dining which added to our night. So thankyou and a very Happy Christmas to you all. A pleasant, relaxed meal; the staff are both professional and welcoming. We ordered a range of meals and all were delivered in good fashion and tasted delicious. Good choice of drinks and plenty of time to enjoy the meal and the atmosphere.

Great food and friendly atmosphere.

I enjoy my meal every time I go. However the service slows down during the service. There was an opportunity to be asked for a second round of drinks. But no eye contact.... We also had to chase the pudding menu and bill. My mother would need a downstairs loo. Luckily she didn't need to go this time.

6 of us for dinner on a Friday night. Place was busy which was good to see but service was excellent throughout the meal. Great choice, reasonable prices for quality offerings. Loved the homemade wild boar and rabbit pasty

Great location excellent food and service

The Red Lion is our number 1 pub to vist for food. The setting, atmosphere, friendly service and food are always first class. We have booked 3 times for this coming week for various special occassions, because we know we will not be let down!

All the time we have eaten at the Red, we've always had a great meal. The service is always exceptional too. Great choice of food.

Absolutely wonderful experience. The food was hearty and delicious. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was so cosy with the actual wood fire in the center.

When I realised The Red Lion was part of the group that owns the Oakley I knew we were not going to be disappointed. Food was top notch and at a price I was comfortable paying, a great selection of beer's on tap. Service was excellent along with the atmosphere.

Young children running around out of control sitting on the floor playing board games clearly causing staff problems serving food and drinks and for other customers, food ok if not overcooked hamburger's real ale choice poor for a Saturday night with 3 ales run out need to employ a more competent cellar person

First time here, won't be back. Table booked for 1pm, had checked in, informed the staff at the bar, the other person is 5 minutes behind me. 5 minutes and 36 seconds after 1pm, friend just locking car door in car park. Little hiltler, angry and aggressive, no hello, or civility, barked in my face "phone your friend, find out where they are, you only have 2 hours for the table and you're out" Whoa, not lying, not making it up, somewhat stunned, unbelievable tone and attitude. As the friend is from Canada, visiting, was driving down to Heathrow for a flight home, kindly met me for lunch and I didn't want to make a scene. If the situation was different I would have politely told the little tyrant to tuck off. and stick her yorkshire pudding where the sun doesn't shine. Trying to be miss little efficient be careful that you don't cross over into aggressive and rude. When venues read negative reviews, they always say well all our other guests love us, well sadly on this occasion this guest didn't and good on all the other guests for having a fabulous time ... i didn't.. The other staff were excellent and the venues decent and the food was ok. Won't be driving an hour again to get verbally assaulted by a member of staff anytime soon. (We left our table at 2:17pm, a whole 43 minutes given back free of charge)

Although quite pricey, the quality of the food reflected that it was well worth it. The service was very good. My friends, who we met up with, brought along their very nervous Collie dog. She was made very welcome. This is a dog friendly place. Definitely worth a return visit.

Excellent food all round - both our mains and desserts- consistently great, friendly service and great ambiance, in a nice, rural location. Highly recommended! Love the braised lamb shoulder - and the mini dessert with coffee is good if you don't have room for one of their full sized desserts.

We have eaten many times at the lovely Red Lion in Longdon Green, but tonight we were blown away by the Food. We both had the Coq au vin Pie. It was by far the best Coq au vin Pie we’ve ever tasted. The sauce in the Pie was just amazing! The Staff as always were super lovely too. Thank you ‘Red Lion’.

Delicious food and warm friendly atmosphere

What a brilliant place to eat. The service was attentive, but not overbearing and there was a good menu with some options I hadn’t seen before. The food was very good and the atmosphere in the restaurant warm and relaxed.

Exceptional food! Gorgonzola stuffed gnochi with artichokes and tenderstem last night with a lovely glass of Merlot. Honestly never had a bad meal, the staff are lovely, the pub itself is a gem, modern yet traditional. I like that you can easily book a table too. Please don't change :-)

I can’t remember the last time I had food here hence why I’ve not rated the food. Have popped in here for a couple drinks while meeting friends and I’ve never encountered any problems. Seen to straight away and served very quickly. This is a beautiful place within a countryside setting. Family friendly and dog friendly. This place is definitely worth a visit!!

Sunday lunch was served promptly to our party of 4. The food was tasty but the vegetables accompanying the dishes were sparce.

We really enjoyed ourselves, including our dog, who loved people watching. They were incredibly busy, but all the staff handled it amazingly, and all of them, to an individual, were attentive, knowledgeable, polite, and eager to ensure we enjoyed our meal. My dietary requirements were handled incredibly well, without the usual fuss, or presentation of the "allergen binder" - instead the staff knew what was in the dish, but also double checked with the chef to make sure. They were able to cook the same meal for me, as everyone else - just without the bits I couldn't eat

Love the place with nice type of customers...in other words NO rowdy trouble makers...food top quality and plenty of parking on site
