The Red Lion in South Northamptonshire

The food there is AMAZING! I had lamb chops on a butter bean,garlic and rosemary puree with roasted tomatoes and a broccoli tender and garlic dressing + a side of chips. and a bailys/chocolate marquise, chocolate ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce pudding. 😋 10/10 for temperature, presentation, portion and taste, as well as being served in the time one would expect for it to have been freshly cooked. Its less 'pub' food and more 'top resteraunt' quality food. Its the kind of food you take your first bite and say OMG! (As both myself and my mother, who had a fish dish, both exclaimed at the same time! 🤣) The menus are imaginative and extensive, with a fantastic selection of wines and beverages. The staff there are so friendly and the service is excellent. It was the oerfect place to have our family meal. A lovely atmosphere, clean, pretty tables and plenty of room. I'd recommend this pub. It's the forth time that ive been and the food and service is consistently 5⭐️ in every way. Fantastic!! Highly recommended!

Food was incredible! If I could give 6 stars, I would! The staff could be a little friendlier, but it was busy. Nice coffee and truffle at the end of the meal.

A fantastic location offering a wonderful menu . We had lunch specials which were superb and at an extremely reasonable price.

Came in with hubby, for a lovely lunch after a long walks with the dogs. The food, and service is outstanding. Bron is amazing host and also very friendly and professional! This isn’t the first time we been here and certainly not the last! Having the lamb burger of the specials, then the lemon and raspberry posset along side, a side of English butter toffee ice cream! Blown away. !!! CAN not recommend enough and very good value for money! Till next time..

One of the best of very many pubs in my life that we have visited Super good value food in a beautiful garden and waited upon very professionally by 2 charming staff, one British and one Bulgarian. We did have a laugh with them !! All was simply wonderful If only we did not live so far away

Absolutely fantastic! I had the lamb chops and it was the best pub lunch I've had for decades. Great value all round. Congratulations to the staff and the chefs.

If you’re after a delicious meal and a nice atmosphere - search no longer! This pub/barn shop has it all. The best service, most tasty foods, freshly baked sausage rolls and scotch eggs, mouth watering focaccias and pasties and THE best sandwiches!!!! You will have the best breakfast and lunch here and a few awesome goodies to take home from the shop. Bronnie (the owner), Maria, Max and Eddie serving and Justin (the owner) and Ollie in the kitchen - BOOM! You will NOT regret booking your meal here. We as a family of four with friends here and there keep coming back! No competition

Travelled from Ross-on-Wye to celebrate a friend’s birthday who was travelling from the opposite direction, so I was hoping I had made the right choice and wasn’t disappointed! The decor and atmosphere is welcoming and staff friendly and polite. I had the Festive Pie with mash and it was delicious, the gravy was amazing. My friend had the fish and chips which he said was also delicious. If I am in the area again will definitely eat there again. 😊

This is an excellent restaurant with a varied selection on the menu and especially good value specials that are added. The service is also warm and friendly and well worth travelling out to from Towcester or Banbury and combining it with a walk round the lovely village. There is also a barn shop attached selling a comprehensive range of deli type products. Only wish the Red Lion was in our village. Highly Recommended.

Came here for my Father's 90th birthday, (9 of us) and it was a perfect venue for that. We had an area to ourselves so it wasn't too noisy so he could hear. Great choice of food which everyone enjoyed. The staff were excellent and went above and beyond - we had supplied our own cake which they kindly allowed us, and provided plates, and even a box to take the remainders home with us. Thank you Red Lion!

I think this may have been the third visit here over the last 3 or so years. Each time we've been greeted and taken to a table where people are nicely spread out, we were not all huddled in one area with other diners. The food was well presented and each time we've commented to each other that it was clearly made to order and not some nasty microwave fare. We will be returning.

We have been to this pub many times but not recently until Wednesday for lunch. Great to see same owners serving brilliant, good value food. Place was packed and we are not surprised. Well done.

Highly recommend this gem of a place. Great food, professional and efficient service. Decor is charming and lovely, and cleanliness level is excellent - right down to the toilets. So far, we’ve had the steak, burger, steak pie, pork steak daily special, and bacon & egg sandwiches. Ate every single morsel, because it’s all just so scrumptious! Even the side salad - fresh, and the dressing is yummilicious. Desserts are great too. They have a separate indoor seating area for guests with dogs. Ample parking spaces as well. Overall, two thumbs up.

I booked a table for 13 people at short notice for December 27th 2022 due to another venue letting me down. Very tasty choices and good value from that month's menu. Cosy feel and obviously very popular judging by the fact that all their tables were full of happy people eating and drinking well. Thanks for taking my call Brinny. I'll suggest meeting up with my sister's family there again when my lot travel down from Nottingham.

It was so lovely to come back here after the Covid madness. Brownin is always so professional and organised and she's so friendly too. She trains her staff so well and the prices were not bad at all. Thank you for an amazing meal you served up for 13 of us just 2 days after Christmas. You were so busy and the pub and restaurant were packed. Thank goodness we booked before hand! One of those pubs that ticks all boxes. Would love to live nearer as we really enjoyed visiting the area and The Red Lion. A proper community pub with a shop attached, good customer service, attractive setting, chilled music, food and drink were all top notch especially the Purity beer on draft produced a feel good vibe. Hope to return in the near future.

This is a lovely daytime restaurant/cafe with good food and garden, but the opening hours are so restrictive (closing at 6pm, only open certain days) that I don't think it's really a pub any more.

Shop in the barn is excellent-especially for home prepared meals

Very accommodating, staff were warm and welcoming. Popped in for a mid morning coffee and sausage roll from the farm shop half way through a rainy dog walk. Dogs were welcomed and the wet wellies. Will be doing jt again very soon!

We've been here a few times over the years. The food is outstanding, as is the attention to detail in the dishes. The service is attentive, very family-friendly and prices are very good considering the high quality of the dishes here. I had the exquisite Korean Chicken to start, with a long-time favourite of mine, the Red Lion Burger for my main along with a pint of Purity's Lawless Lager. Amongst the menu highlights on our table were; Foccacia Bread, King Prawns and Olives and Almonds and wonderful Crispy Coconut Crumbed Tiger Prawn Skewers with a Sweet Chilli & Mango Dipping Sauce (specials menu). Mains recommended by our party were Sole, Surf n' Turf and from the specials menu - Lamb, Chickpea & Sweet Potato Curry with Basmati Rice, Flatbread & Mango Chutney. We didn't have desserts as we normally would today, as we were celebrating a birthday and planned to have cake at home (although this was kindly offered by the pub owners). If we'd stayed for dessert, the choice of ice cream is superb and I'm sure we'd have seriously enjoyed pud too. Thank you Red Lion, enjoy your well-deserved holidays and see you again soon! X

A return to the Red Lion for my traditional birthday dinner after missing last year due to covid restrictions. Same great service and food, the only difference is their earlier opening/closing hours (understandably). Bronni and Justin, with support from Ollie run a tight kitchen producing consistently great food, and fantastic that they've now added the Barn Shop so that you can stock up on their beautiful focaccia and meals to cook at home, as well as fresh and store cupboard essentials. Pictured are the Chicken Saltimbocca with basil mash (my choice, and absolutely yummy) and the beef Phat Boy pie (his choice). I'm not a pie fan, but the filling was succulent and juicy I started with their excellent spicy crab cake and also shared his focaccia - no room for dessert!

Lovely cute atmosphere, very welcoming staff. Visited after a wedding the day before so was in the area but hadn't booked but they were able to accommodate us on a side table. Had the fish and chips which was lovely and very filling. Certainly recommend 5*

We went for a small family celebration lunch recently. I'd not been before and the rest of my family promised me the Red Lion is usually much better; however, they're running a reduced menu right now still which is fairly uninspiring. I had the sole, which wasn't bad, but came with a very greasy lukewarm potato rosti. The cheesecake dessert wasn't at all as described on the menu and the white was pretty poor quality. However, I'd have overlooked these issues if not for a few more. Firstly, when booking we'd mentioned one of our party is vegan and assured that wasn't a problem; however the only vegan starter was the olives and almonds (although the waitress then told us the almonds are in a non-vegan coating), the only main was arancini minus the parmesan they are otherwise served with and the only dessert was sorbet. I was surprised that in 2021, a fairly upmarket place like this has, as served, 0 vegan starters, 0 vegan mains and 1 vegan dessert on the menu. The bigger issue was the service, the staff were very slow and seemingly deaf to any and all requests. The waiter that served us was frankly rude. The waitress was much more polite if somewhat overbearing. For the price, I definitely wouldn't return.

Dropped in for lunch and was blown away. A beautiful pub garden, kept immaculately, with a deli off to one side. I had a the scotch egg special - smoked haddock and spring onion with charred tender stem on a rosti with shellfish sauce. It was divine. Attentive and friendly service. Very highly recommend.

Just had one of the best meals ever. The menu was very varied and lovely to have fish dishes on the menu. Food was beautifully presented with good portions. Lovely relaxed atmosphere but attentive staff. Will definitely be back.

A lovely friendly pub ,they have dog friendly seating in the gardens a barn were you can buy some different food drink and ice cream.The food in the pub was very tasty and not the usual menu a very nice selection for every body to try well worth a visit.

I have used this pub numerous years and recommend it as we have always had first class service also used the barn . Tonight we had ordered takeaway through been misheard I got the wrong meal . I rang and spoke to Bronie and she actually drove over and brought the meal I wanted I mean a busy busy pub doing takeaway and took that extra time to look after you certainly goes above and beyond in my book . Friendly excellent service. Food fantastic in the garden with a more extended menu. A real joy to go for lunch and value for money, but will take my own cutlery next time. Not Red Lion fault covids fault. Disposable everything. They are now offering non alcoholic beer which was excellent. Such a sensible idea.

Excellent Sunday lunch, with a dog friendly section. If you are tempted by the hand made chocolates, they are every bit as good as the food.

Our first visit to the red lion and certainly won't be our last. Very nice friendly staff. The lamb is to die for and certainly the best I've ever eaten. Desserts were also fantastic. Well done
