Waited 40m for food to arrive. No cutlery, and the steaks were of poor quality. The lamb used to be excellent, but since changing the cut to the shoulder of lamb, this is no longer an option. The steak burgers also used to be very good, but quality has fallen here too. Waiting 30m for a drink order on the patio was somewhat annoying. I believe it was the first time in decades when I have not given a tip such was my disappointment.

We have dined at the Red Fox for 10 years and the meal we had last night was the worst ever. I had fish and chips and after finding bones in the first bite, it left me having to look at every mouthful searching for bones. The chips were not as well cooked as normal. The service was very very slow, which we have experienced before. They need more staff. Would we go again, questionable.

The fish and chips I had was disappointing, I could not identify the thin piece of fish I had. Nothing like a premium piece of cod for instance. The batter was crispy though. The chips, which were probably frozen, were flavourless and the 'mushy' peas were marrrowfats.Poor for £17.50

We went for a weekday afternoon tea with a 2:30 booking. It was still quite busy from lunch. The food was lovely (scone was amazing) and the service was good, although they did seem a bit run off their feet (we had a few little waits, but nothing major). My (minor) disappointments were that we sat by a window which was fogged up (obviously not a quick fix) but also we had to request teaspoons for the tea and there were no cake forks. We also had to send back crockery and the server picked up on some too. Given the cost of afternoon tea I would think these things should be spot on. I would think about going again for tea or book for slightly later in the afternoon once lunch is properly over. My mother thoroughly enjoyed it though as did my niece.

The red fox is a lovely restaurant with a large car park. You can walk your dog around the small pond before entering the restaurant. The pond is small but has a seating area that I imagine you can get served from during the summer. The car park has plenty of bays and the entrance is paved very well. I do not believe that there is a height restriction on the entrance The atmosphere is very nice and the lighting is extremely good. The food comes very quickly and is very high quality. The customer service is amazing, all the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this restaurant to all my friends, it has a beautiful atmosphere.

I had high hopes for this dining experience, the atmosphere was great and the service was good. However when my pan fried haddock arrived and my friends venison arrived the experience was dampened. The haddock was cooked perfectly however the vegetables it was accompanied by were absolutely dreadful and sauce (that stank) made the food inedible. The venison hotpot was so rich it was practically possible to eat any more than a couple of bites and the accompanying green beans were sad. Could have done with some more vibrant sides and possibly some sort of acid to cut through the richness of the hotpot. Would definitely go back for drinks but would not touch the food with a barge pole.

A Brunning and Price so you know it’s going to be great decor and yes it was so 10/10 👜 handbag review for that including the service. Lovely and cosy even though there were some rather large rooms. Also everywhere is immaculate so huge thank you to Caroline’s squeaky clean hard work (post on your Instagram & FB page 👏). We tried the steak burger delicious and the chilli beef salad but have to say was quite well done and could just about get my fork into the very crispy beef (was tasty though 😁) Cheeseboard with 4 cheeses again nice for a change but £13.95 crikey (good cheeses are expensive these days) Small waffle was just right thank you for that. So 9/10 👜 handbag food review for today’s lunch. Oh and by the way best toilet rooms we have ‘ever’ seen 👍

UPDATE on 02 January 2025. We had an excellent meal here in December-see review below-and were told by THREE DIFFERENT MEMBERS OF STAFF that bookings for Christmas Day 2025 opened at 10 am today, the 2nd of January. We arrived at 9.30 am to be told that bookings had actually opened at 9am and there was no longer a table available for our party of 8. A very brief apology from the young lady we spoke to, as in “Sorry about that”. She might just have well added “Now go away “. Very very poor information indeed and not really that much of an apology either, given we’d been falsely informed by 3 members of staff! New review on 16/12/24:- Another EXCELLENT lunch here. First class service, decor, food and drink. Couldn’t fault it! Previous review c. 9 years ago ( although we’ve been quite a few times since!):- Had lunch here a few days ago,a family group of four. The outside and inside look very smart indeed, with lots of hanging baskets and tubs. All the internal walls are full of a fascinating mix of paintings, posters, old cartoons and documents and maps. You could spend a few hours just viewing them! We were sat in a rear window seat with excellent views of the well kept gardens and pleasant countryside beyond. All the tables and decor are solid and smart. Pretty good menu choices and wine list. Food a BIT on the pricey side but nice. Don't mind paying a bit more for the smart and tasteful ambience. You could choose a variety of lighter bites for about £10 or bar snacks for £3 or so each or c. £10 for four snacks,if preferred. Bar area itself v smart but we ate in the conservatory restaurant with pleasant waitress service. One minus point. It was a sunny, warm day and I got a bit too warm. Couldn't see any fans, ventilation grids or air conditioning. On that note, there's also a pleasant, smart outside terrace overlooking the rear gardens. Excellent, apart from my concerns about ventilation.

So attended this venue for a,birthday meal with my partner, arrived early as we had booked a table but wanted to suss it out first before we sat down to eat, went to the bar the staff at the bar brilliant could not do enough for us, eventually after about 45mins we asked for our table as we had booked it a week earlier, after sitting down and perusing the menu we quickly decided what we wanted to eat and waited for the table service staff to take our order, on looking around the venue I noticed people arriving sitting down and within 10mins staff arrived to take there order, this did not happen to us, I pushed it as long as I could then 25mins (we apparently only had a 2 hour window) later had to ask for service the young girl immediately responded and came back to take our order, I don't think where we where sitting was her patch if you get what I mean but she was brilliant even tho taken aback as if the area was another member of staff to deal with but she was great never seen her again which kinda proves a point, we made our order and eventually it was served, so finished our main then waited to be attended to again for dessert which again took ages I mean a long time, then I noticed that the woman who's patch/area it was as u could see with your own eyes these tables and others where her patch she dealt with them all in this area seemed to be fawning over and being sycophantic over the "regulars" that sat down about 15mins after we did talking to them for ages making sure they where served and ignoring not just us but other people too in the same area, we only got attention when this woman deemed fit to cut conversations with these "regulars" then serve other customers as well as ourselves it all took so long between the time we sat down till the end of the meal, because of the shoddy service im trying to keep a lid on it that evening and stay calm and relaxed because it was my partners "birthday" luckily I hid it well, it was not relaxing at all I'm sure there are better places to pay over £100 to be ignored, the table service was shoddy at best the fawning over regulars to the detriment or other customers was paramount and obvious, not a comfortable experience not a relaxing experience as soon as we left the bar to sit down....

As I enjoy a pie I ordered it. Was so disappointed it was half a mini pie what a joke. Never went back until 2 years ago one of our friends booked 11 of us for our Christmas get together we were all disappointed but put it down to be busy at Christmas. So as I said on 21st October booked for my wife’s birthday. We were shown to our table which was in a nice position I thought this looks promising. But when it came to ordering our meals the young man informed the main course my wife ordered was not available. So she chose another one again to be told that was not available. Ordered another then the young man returned to say that all so was not available.he informed us that we should have been informed when we gave our booking name. At that point I would have been tempted to leave but really could do nothing at that point in time so accepted a very disappointing evening spoiling my wife’s birthday. Never again.

Love this place so much. My wife had had a tough time in work last week and I booked this to raise her spirits and it's worked, thank you! I have never had a bad meal here or experience. Kind regards

Popped into Barbetta’s today with a group of four. We were given menus while we waited, then shown to a table once one became available. We ordered four hot drinks and were quietly enjoying them when, out of the blue, a “Reserved” sign was plonked on our table. A member of staff then came over and said, “I’m sorry, this table is reserved so I’m going to get the bill now and I’ll have to ask you to pay.” We were all a bit taken aback — not only were some of us still finishing our drinks, but the way it was said felt incredibly abrupt and quite rude. When I quietly said to my friend that I thought the service had been a bit off, the server overheard and challenged me, asking “Did you think I was rude then?” in a very defensive and confrontational way. She then informed us — only at that point — that they were only serving food today, and implied we shouldn’t have been seated for drinks. At no time were we told this when we arrived or ordered. Had that been made clear, we would have had no issue going elsewhere. Instead, we were made to feel unwelcome and like an inconvenience. It’s a shame, really. What could have been a pleasant visit turned into a very uncomfortable experience. Sadly, we won’t be returning — not because of the policy, but because of the way we were spoken to and treated. A bit of basic communication and courtesy would’ve gone a long way.
