UPDATE. Been again today 25.3.25 New staff so gave the place another chance I specifically asked that’s the garlic bread not be dried to a crisp!!! And asked the fried food NOT to be cremated !!! Guess what YUP Garlic bread came out dried to a crisp with wee bits of butter on bits, and the hallumi fries CREMATED. SO FED UP I NEVER FINISHED FOOD - I was absolute starving too. Just left. Not happy ☹️ I asked BEFORE I got the food for it not to be over cooked and I was blatantly ignored. Here is previous review - Been too upset to do review. Called manager. Will never return. Food disgusting. Manager nice but chef attitude stinks. Bad service Would give no stars if possible I have been a loyal customer for years But will never return. Food way too greasy and inedible. Too expensive. All show and no substance place. Bitterly Disappointed

Coming from Australia we find the little traditional pubs great to go to for food and atmosphere. The staff at The Red Deer were so good we came twice in a row for dinner. The food and service fast and professional. Thanks to Niamh, Ani, Stuart, Becca and Amy and we said thanks to chef Tam, Tyler and Kyle.

We had a lovely lunch. We were served by Leeanne and Stuart. Both were warm and welcoming. We both had the brisket sandwich. Which was excellent. Hats off to the chefs Ali and Michael. It was a great experience. We will come again

Always great food. We arrived when it was fairly quiet and it took a couple of minutes for any of the 3 staff pootling around the bar to even acknowledge our arrival. We were placed between 2 already populated tables, loads in other areas available but suppose we could have asked to move but didn't.

Firstly I appreciate we were a big party (16) but the rest of the restaurant didn't appear busy. Our main server also seemed to be a relatively new member of staff and I appreciate that staff need time to be trained. However the service was really poor. We had to ask for the 'weekend treat' menu and when that was given out we had 2 different versions. We weren't told about items that were not available until we had placed our order. Some people had to reorder their starters as the kitchen had run out. We had to ask several times for some drinks orders and 1 didn't arrive at all. It also took a very long time for our desserts to arrive. We had to ask about them too and less than half of our party ordered desserts. Paying for the bill was a nightmare. We paid in about 6 family groups and each group had a go through what they had instead of just charging what we had worked out at the table. This took more than half an hour partly due to the fact that some items hadn't been recorded as the 'weekend treat' deal. Generally everyone thought the food was good.

Amy and Niamh The chef had to be mentioned for the quality of the food Tyler and Makayla what a Sunday Roast I have just had the Sunday Roast came well presented the Bar Staff mentioned even brought my drinks to the table first class would strongly recommend you try this !!

We just had our Sunday lunch here and very pleased we did. From arriving till leaving the Staff were very attentive and cheerful. For lunch we both had the Trio of meat Beef,Turkey & Belly of Pork. We both agreed it was delicious and the gravy was so flavoursome. Would highly recommend here for a Sunday Lunch

Went for a birthday dinner and was very disappointed with the service. Did not bring all the menus until asked to, did not say what they had run out of, did not take away plates/glasses unless asked to. Service was extremely slow and not helpful at any point. Food took forever and then was overcooked and not nice at all. Left before desserts as didn't want to give anymore of my time or money. Completely terrible from start to finish. I usually rave about this place but doubt I will be going back. If I could I would've given no stars but you have to click at least one to leave a review

Had a lovely experience at the red deer can’t really complain about anything atmosphere was warm welcoming and very friendly. The food was also very nice me and my partner really enjoyed our experience and would definitely recommend thank you to all the staff.

Very little food left for a sunday night and it was only just after 6.

Nothing was good. Time for food too long a wait left after. 1hour 30 mins because main meal still hadn’t been served. Availability of food extremely poor set menu 1st two options not available 3rd option ordered and after 1hour 30 mins was told part of the meal was not available and would I take chips that’s when we decided to leave. Extremely expensive for 3 drinks and 2 starters £37. Customer service non existent no apology for lengthy wait no update to inform us of problems in kitchen just left to sit no member of the team came anywhere near where we were sat so couldn’t even ask with out going looking for someone. Team member on the till didn’t even take off our deposit until I queried it and had to get manager. No apology for not taking it off. All staff untrained in customer service kitchen unable to deal with orders and who ever does the stock orders has no idea how much to order leading to poor availability.

We rolled upto the Red Deer at 9.30pm after 5hours on the road to be greeted by Tyler with 5star service followed my the 5star signature burger that was by far 1 of the best burgers I have been served , and I've eaten some burgers 🤣 would highly recommend the place and Tyler's kitchen skills

A lovely meal and great service. I will go again. Edit to add- 7 years later and I have come again many times! As usual I have found the food very tasty and reasonably priced. The staff are very attentive and friendly. This has become a regular feature for our friend group.

We have been to the Red Deer a few times in the last couple of months. Purely for the fantastic service and beef brisket sandwich - amazing and so worth it! Rebecca has served us each time we have been in, always serving us with a smile and good chat. We will be back, especially for the biscoff iced latte. 🥰

To whom this will concern, The red deer is the very definition of a hidden gem. It has outstanding food provided by the insanely talented chefs Stuart and Kyle, the service far surpasses anything I have seen within recent years and this experience was provided by Amy & Katelynne. Food was absolutely lovely, my partner had the best burger he's ever had and I had the calamari and baked scallops off the starter menu. The calamari was a little chewy and cold but still nice, the scallops were gorgeous. Service was great, there was a large table in at the same time and naimh was very apologetic about the wait despite us not booking. The pub also stock non alcoholic options that aren't on the menu, I wish I'd known when I came in but got a Gordon's 0 on the second order. Overall a lovely wee pub, the fires a welcome addition after a long cold walk!

Used to visit nearly once a month until Aug 24, but haven’t been since, so was looking forward to Sunday lunch today. Booked for 2:00pm, arrived 1:55pm and seated promptly. Ordered a bottle of wine, but had to chase it up after 20 minutes. Then was advised that it was out of stock. Would have chosen another wine but bearing in mind we’d not even been asked for our food order by this time, (ie/ 30 minutes since arriving) we couldn’t be bothered waiting any longer. Sadly disappointing service from a restaurant that I used to really enjoy.

Charming pub in Cumbernauld in a heritage building. The food and service were great and it was nice to sit by the roaring fire.

Very pleasant environment with a calm overall decor. Staff courteous on arrival and throughout the entire visit. Checking with us on food was satisfactory. Very happy to make a return visit. Last May we had our Wedding at the Red Deer Cumbernauld and could not ask for a better place to celebrate, the help and support from Stuart and staff were fantastic and cannot thank them enough for making our day so special. We have been for dinner , lunchies and a cuppa and found the service brilliant , the food has always been lovely any time we have popped in, We love coming here and the feel of the place is oldy worldy and comfortable to sit and relax and have a Chat, Would recomend visiting here and we will of course be back again soon , thanks to Rebecca today for her great service and her lovely personality x

The Red Deer was a 'non-event'..! Having stopped there for evening dinner and waited some time at the bar for anyone to appear, my wife and I were bluntly informed that as we had no reservation, we could not be accommodated, as there was "only one chef on duty". The restaurant didn't look particularly busy, but one chef obviously had his hands full, so on this occasion we left and proceeded on our journey still hungry. Unfortunately,, due to other recent experiences, Vintage Inns have now dropped to the very bottom of our places to visit food and certainly could not be recommended from this particular experience.

Christmas Day at this wonderful establishment. Don't know why we didn't think of it before! Decorated tastefully and beautifully. Service was as good as ever, even under such trying circumstances. Food was almost perfect.

The food is excellent and the staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient. I had the lamb shank which was cooked to perfection and just fell off the bone. Would definitely recommend.

The food was very good, the staff where fun, and the resturaunt was very cozy.

Very nice family time together at the red deer where we met up for drinks and nibbles, staff were extremely friendly and service was excellent, young lady brought extra chairs over for us without us having to ask when guests arrived, we had a warm welcome on arrival and great service throughout. The festive menu with the 3 snacks for £12 was delicious, the hog roast sausage roll was amazing! Great atmosphere, would highly recommend to anyone.

Enjoyed a lovely roast dinner with all the trimmings, with excellent service from the Red Deer staff. Very friendly and attentive. Thank you and We will be back.

On Christmas Day we arrived at 3.45pm our slotted time. we waited over an hour for our drink order and our main course arrived at 17.35pm. Food was extremely poor quality. Scallop starter not a white sauce but cheesy and cold in the middle. Beef wellington soggy and inedible. Very upsetting day.

We booked for Christmas Day lunch amd were not disappointed. Food was excellent as was the service from the staff. All staff were extremely pleasant and attentive without being overbearing and they did everything to make our meal and visit enjoyable. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Christmas Day was honestly just a let down across the board. Unfortunate because I’ve always raved about this place. Shame the one bad day had to happen on Christmas. My views echo that of the other reviews commenting on Christmas. Fair play to the manager realising how much of a disaster it was letting us have free drinks. Pales in comparison to the money spent on below par food (by usual standards set by Red Deer.) filling out the scallops with prawns is a bit much guys.

The service was non existent. We were shown to our table a little later due to the previous guests running over there time, which was expected as it was Christmas day. We had to approach the bar for a drinks order as no one came to our table to take our drinks order after being seated for over 30 minutes. We then had to locate a member of staff over an hour after our booking time to ask about our starters to then be told that there had been some system issues. The food when it came was nice but was not worth the money we paid the portion sizes were below average and one small bowl of vegetables to to share between 3 adults and the majority of the veg consisted of cabbage

Went for Christmas dinner. Took 45 minutes before pre ordered drinks came to table. Starts weren’t good. Mains were mediocre. Dessert was also mediocre and bland. Wouldn’t recommend for Christmas. £364 spent and not happy

Great atmosphere for Christmas Day dinner. Very homely surroundings. Nice ambience, it wasn’t too loud and the other guests were a reasonable volume too. The food was lovely, and decent portion size - particularly the turkey dinner with all the trimmings and adding a plate of vegetables. Decent price considering the day we went. Kayleigh was a lovely server and looked after both of us. Overall we had a very enjoyable Christmas Day dinner at the Red Deer and would go back again.

Restaurant was freezing despite asking for heating to be turned on several times, to the point we were sitting with coats on. Pate starter was tiny. No exaggeration to say it seemed like a quarter of a portion. 3 main meals were stone cold, had no stuffing as per the menu. Told we could have pigs in blanket as a replacement but this was also part of the advertised dish. Cranberry sauces was served in its jar. This was for my daughters 18th birthday so really disappointed. The restaurant was empty so no real excuse. On the plus side, the server, Eve, was amazing. The cold meals were removed from the bill. Just overall disappointed as it was for a birthday.

Amy, Emma and Leeanne served us and kept checking to see if we needed anything else! All three were polite and pleasant! The chefs; Tyler, Tam, Aimee and Kyle make a great team as the food was very well presented and tasted delicious! I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Cannot praise the staff highly enough. There was only 2 people serving and the restaurant and bar were busy. There was a young guy with a beard and a young blonde girl working extremely hard getting all the orders and delivering the food to the tables quickly and efficiently. Both were so pleasant working under such pressure making sure we were happy with out food. Such a pity this place is up for sale as whenever we are in Glasgow we always make a point of visiting the red deer on our way home Obviously the kitchen staff also need praise for the way they coped with the customers in for food.

After 18 months of avoiding the Red Deer due to 2 awful experiences we decided to give it another chance and glad we did. Service was good although was never checked on to see if our food was okay (lucky it was). Food was good although prices have gone up slightly and portions stayed same or made smaller. Shame some things were off the menu. Will go back again though. Recommend the salted caramel profiteroles from festive menu, cheesecake, the curry and sticky chicken.

Atmosphere was lovely, changed my booking to a larger group last minute, staff changed us to a much more comfortable table to suit, food was delicious. Felt the service was slow at the beginning, not very attentive we waited a while before giving our order and receiving drinks. Staff are lovely will definitely return.

Previous visits have been great, but the service tonight was terrible for our table. Putting aside the festive menu of dishes that wetent available, the dining area wasn't mobbed and other tables seemed to be getting ok service, including those who were seated after us, but it felt like our table was fotgotten at every turn. 30 minutes before a drink or food order was taken, and only after prompting staff. A further 30 minutes for 2 starters to arrive, after further prompting and after other tables, who had ordered later. A second round of drinks required a visit to the bar, and one of the mains (when they finally arrived) was cold. 20 minutes after finishing our mains, with the plates still sitting, we decided that orrdering desserts wasn't worth it. As no one seemed interested in coming to the table, another trip to the bar to pay the bill. The food was good when it appeared (aside from the temperature), and I've really enjoyed previous visits, so I hope this was a one-off.

We visited yesterday afternoon prior to going into Glasgow for an event. Booked for 4.30, we arrived slightly (a few minutes) early and were shown to our table on arrival. Drinks arrived quickly and our order was taken for our main course. This duly arrived some 20 minutes later and we were offered condiments which arrived in their plastic squeezy bottles, which was fine. I had the mac and cheese and my husband had the fish. Mine was okay but the chips were not cooked properly and the odd random chip was almost raw. My husbands fish was definitely frozen and whilst the food was presented very nicely it was just fine, not high quality in any way. We did look at the dessert menu but that’s as far as we got as in over an hour and a quarter we’d only managed to have the one course due to extremely slow service blamed on staff shortages, despite the fact that a member of staff appeared to be on a mobile phone behind the bar and at no point did I see any staff over busy. . The place wasn’t overrun with customers either so they must have had a lot of staff phone in sick. We left at 5.45 feeling cold (the fire is a nice touch but the heat doesn’t radiate out far) and still a bit peckish, and headed off to our next destination. We did mention the speed of service so this review should not come as a massive shock. Staff were pleasant but just not quick enough to pick up on the cues you expect people to know about in hospitality - ie watching for tables finishing a course, offering more drinks etc. In conclusion, it’s a place to lower your expectations a little I’m afraid, and to plan to spend a long time if you intend on eating more than one course. We would not dine here again as it just didn’t stack up for us.

This is a chain pub/restaurant in a faux-farmhouse style. The interior is pleasant enough with a variety of seating, a few cosy spots and a couple of open fires in the colder months. There’s some outdoor seating for nicer days. Food-wise, there’s a menu with something for everyone and, whilst everything is pleasant enough, you can tell that it’s all been made elsewhere, frozen, and re-heated on site. Drinks-wise, there’s a standard range of beers, wines and spirits. Nothing about it is bad, but there’s also nothing that you would call outstanding.

Found ourselves back in Red Deer, 5 years since last visit, this was same Sunday noted as having kitchen issues. I do hope these have been resolved, as this provided a disappointing and embarrassing visit. We were told beef was off menu, before we sat, leaving an option of pork with crackling, and roast Turkey, both with usual Sunday veg etc. Both were so disappointingly bad, we can only assume the waiting staff would have been embarrassed to serve up this standard of food. Roast potatoes, were, imho, cooked earlier and reheated via microwave, as the skins were not crisp, but soft and tough as leather, so much so that cutlery provided could not get through, resulting in several slipped knife noises within restaurant. Pork with crackling, is crackling not supposed to be crisp, crackly? What we got was a layer of pork topped with a very soft, slippery jellified slab of soft fat. Vegetables did not fair well either, broccoli heads were cold, stalks were solid, inedible. The only thing that came out, tasting pleasant and hot, was a side serving of cauliflower with cheese sauce, perhaps this was suited to microwave style of cooking. We were contemplating a dessert, but gave up on this, by the time we had sampled this fiasco. We were charged £45 for this visit. Now it may be argued, excused, if there were kitchen issues, resulting in a less than expected service, then the price charged should have also reflected this. The management should have taken a decision to close if kitchen issues resulted in this embarrassing presentation, rather than leave restaurant open to criticism via reviews like this. I am sorry if this review is dis-appointing to Red Deer management, but then so was our visit. Perhaps this might be the catalyst for much needed improvements.

Driven past so often, wish we’d visited before now. Really lovely atmosphere, the fire was perfect with the cold weather. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. We chose the lunch set menu which was great value for money. The menu had a great selection, the starters and mains we had were lovely. All in all, we really enjoyed our meal, definitely recommend and we will be back again.

Lovely place to stop for lunch! Our server, Katelynne was so wonderful and accommodating. Food was great and they even have a fireplace which adds to the ambiance. Would recommend to anyone in the area or passing through!

Mussels were a perfect mid afternoon snack. Atmosphere was warm and cozy with multiple fireplaces lit!

Really enjoyed the Lasagna with a side of onion rings. Service was quick and staff were friendly and polite.

Amazing restaurant just off the interstate. Food was extremely good, good drink selection, waitress was very good and tended to my wife’s egg allergies extremely well. Don’t pass this one by!
