Served beer in plastic glasses but bottles were fine. Apart from cons club the best pub in thirsk

Good honest pub, cheap beer and friendly, don't think they serve food but never asked.

This place is horrendously humid on a Saturday night, barely any seating, and the staff know it's too hot and uncomfortable as they use an electric fan behind the bar. They clearly don't have air conditioning, and the level of heat and humidity in there is beyond ridiculous. Was honestly the worst experience I've ever had in a pub, and I've been in some proper dives before.

Great pub, great atmosphere, lovely staff, original features which make it more homely. Plus it keeps the prices right.

Love this pub.....we always end up in the Red Bear, when drinking in Thirsk. It's the best for sports with a friendly atmosphere to go with it. Service has always been second to none. Plus the prices are very competitive with what's happening elsewhere in the Town.

Decent pub and cheap drinks... Telly's all over the place with racing on all the time, bookies next door.. Quieter towards the back and does have small beer garden out the back..

What can I say as long as we have been visiting Thirsk this pub is our favourite .The staff are fantastic the service great The atmosphere is great and the locals are soo friendly and welcoming .And of course the drinks are a great price Thank you all Xx

Great Pub. Great Beer/Lager. Great atmosphere. Just a small moan. £1.75 for the smallest lemonade to put in my glass of wine. Not even half of a pint.

I would highly recommend this pub as been the best in thirsk the staff are all great the pub is so welcoming prices are the cheapest in thirsk and always got sports on be it football rugby cricket horse racing and more dog friendly and brilliant beer garden that's a sun trap will definitely be going back when I'm back in the area

New Year visit to Thirsk, called in for a pint. Great atmosphere, made most welcome by staff and locals. Best pint of Doom Bar I've ever tasted. I nearly fell through the floor when I paid, unbelievably cheap.

A great little pub in the heart of the Thirsk town centre. Very competitive prices for drinks and friendly bar staff who always make you welcome. A superb place to go for a drink when visiting the races in Thirsk.

What a truly terrible experience, we're sat in the beer garden as I type this review. At 11:40 I ordered a pint of Guinness and a pint of Coors, the girl behind the bar poured the Guinness but unfortunately the barrel went mid pour, not a problem, normally. She said she needed to get someone to change it as she didn't know how, again no problem, while I thought that was happening I took the Coors to my wife in the garden and then came back. Nothing was said as I stood there for 15 mins. I'm a person that doesn't like to cause a fuss but I finally asked if someone was changing the barrel, to which she replied she had called someone to do it. They were all in a meeting upstairs and couldn't be disturbed and they had left her on her own and she was new. I asked for a refund which she couldn't do as she didn't know how, I eventually paid another 20p and had a pint of Coors, Managers clearly can't manage, you don't leave anyone on their own when they have no experience, won't be going back.

I think its more of a sports pub,but ive heard the food is great.

My last visit was quite pleasant and had lovely staff behind the bar, my visit today was very unpleasant and the staff were very rude also not very clean!

Very small, toilets are tacky, shame you need cameras in toilets now. Defo could do with a renovation to spruce it up. Just looks the same since changed from darrowby to bear.

We were there for the races at Thirsk, so it was quite packed but still the service was good and we enjoyed are time there, albeit a short one.

Because it is very much better than it used to be. It was always a beautiful pub, but the decor does not give quality. The management do. Feel safe here now.

Good as a locals club, expect to feel a little like an outsider if you don't know anyone, but it's not too bad once you start to get to know people. Everyone is also friendly

Nice little pub that sits back.can be a bit busy which you can expect from a popular place and staff are great.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I haven’t been here before, so cannot compare previous and new landlords. The only thing I can compare is the various pubs around the Market Place, and when you consider that the local drinkers are a Nomadic lot who wander from pub to pub, you won’t be surprised to hear that, on a Saturday night, most of the pubs seem pretty much the same. The two majors exceptions to that rule were the Little 3 and The Golden Fleece. The Royal was a decent enough place for a pint, but there was nothing about it that made us particularly want to linger.

So the red bear had a renovation and renamed after the previous people had it.It used to be a really great pub, good drinks at reasonable prices and a great juke box.It has been done up and the great selection of drinks have changed, the atmosphere is crap, new landlord doesn't seem interested and worse still, the jukebox has been wiped and is now crap too.Won't be going back any time soon and neither will my friends

A sports bar now, plenty of televisions and great prices.
