Little gem in the heart of clutton with great food cool staff and fun atmosphere (disco night when I visited) whole family enjoyed and is dog friendly all the food is amazing so try everything 😁

Great vibe, great landlord, child friendly, good food, improvements being made all the time.

Good beer, quality food especially the pizza with loaded topping,and friendly service at a fair price what more dya need. Pool table, garden , games room. It's a great community feel . Friendly too. Friday and Saturday night are the event nights if on. Parking for about 10 cars so walk if you can.

Popped in for a pint and a band were playing "Bombshell" who were amazing! Seemed like a good venue for live music, hope they get more like that, it was really good! The locals seemed like a good laugh too and everyone was having a great time. Friendly staff too and very fast service.

A real find thanks to the internet. Tucked away from the main road this is a pub with a good atmosphere, range of drinks and really excellent home cooked food at great value. Well worth a visit.

Went here for a meal with friends. The bar is lined with stools, so very difficult to get to the bar itself to get served. Menu is basic pub grub, but that was to be expected and we all enjoyed our food. However, it was very noisy, so normal conversation was difficult and spoilt the evening to some extent. The toilets were clean, so that was a positive.

One of our random pub Wednesday nights and what a lucky find! got completely lost and ended up on a green lane in the car, such a good laugh and then this pub appeared, beers were great, dogs were very welcome and the food we ate was perfect, staff were very friendly, this is a proper country pub and well worth the visit. A good five stars and thank you for your hospitality, we will be back soon.

Nice meal and reasonable prices

Went for lunch as good vegan options on the menu, food was nice though veg very overcooked. Service very slow and a big rigmarole over my son’s lunch- they didn’t have macaroni cheese (told over 15 mins since ordering) so ordered vegan nuggets meal instead, only brought out nuggets without chips and peas as it cost more than the Mac cheese originally ordered!!! Had to have 3 discussions about it which seemed ridiculous, even when offering to pay difference. Had a very grouchy 3 year old on our hands who didn’t end up getting his lunch until we’ll over an hour past the time we ordered. Not great ambience in there either, more of a drinking pub which is a shame as good menu.

What a fantastically welcoming pub. We were attending a stag party at a house down the road and decided to meet at the pub for food and drink beforehand. Well we were not disappointed in the slightest. Very accommodating to a group of around 20 the staff were helpful and extremely friendly. Food was great and we did work our way through burgers and plenty of chips and pizza, over the course of 2 nights. With a large group this was such a good venue with pool and darts and plenty or bar space. Extremely kind of them to allow us to book half the pub just to watch the football the next day. It is safe to say we had a great time at the pub and the Stag was extremely happy. Plenty of choice of drinks and some great cider available as well. Would highly recommend this place for a great get together and with the garden space as well would be even better in the hight of summer. Thank you to all the team at the Railway.

Came here whilst staying nearby on holiday, and it had been highly recommended by the place we were staying so we took the 30 min journey to visit. On arrival, it looked like a nice cosy pub from the outside but inside it did leave little to be desired and I thought we were in the wrong place. The staffing was a bit disjointed and when we ordered, the lady from behind the bar was a bit confused but anyway we ordered burgers and fries and mac and cheese. The food unfortunately took over an hour and they weren't very busy at the time we ordered at all, before we got our food they asked us again what we had ordered as I believe they must have made a mistake in the ordering process so we had to wait longer. Once we got our food they forgot our fries - so it was all a bit of a disaster. The food was nice but it definitely didn't wow me or was worth over an hours wait. Also it was at a time when we were all still mask wearing and being a little bit more conscious and not one of the staff were wearing masks and one of the staff was wearing a crop top to serve in which I wouldn't have said would be ideal in/out of the kitchen or serving customers but nevermind.

Such a lovely spot! We were camping at a local campground and it was perfect for our weekend lunch/early diner. Lovely selection of ciders and lush vegan options!!! I had a vegan burger and their vegan cake/sorbet dessert option - it was all really lovely. Staff is exceptional as well !! A must if you’re in the area.

We booked for Sunday roast for 5 people at 3:30pm - I called them before they opened that day and booked the table. I informed Sarah that two of us were vegan and the rest would be eating to meat roasts. We turned up as planned and were told when we ordered that there were no nut roasts left and they could cook us vegan burger patties instead. We were so hungry and obviously it was too late to go somewhere else so reluctantly agreed. The roasts turned up with what looked like very little on the plates. We complained (politely) and they admitted that basically they had run out of a lot of things. You’d think we’d been shouting at them and being really out of order the way they dealt with our complaint. Our vegan roasts were a burger patty with broccoli, cabbage and 3 small bits of roast potato. The meat roasts had a bit more. We weren’t being picky and we were basing our expectations on what we’ve had from the same place before - fantastic tasty roast diners the last 3 times we’ve been there! But the attitude we got from the staff was disgusting and we could hear them moaning about us to other customers! So unprofessional! I wouldn’t have left a bad review if they had been polite. A young lad we think from the kitchen, was thrown under the bus and had to deal with us (he was lovely to be fair to him) and they didn’t charge for 3 of our meals so had we not been treated like vermin I would have been happy with that. Unfortunately whoever is in charge has no idea how to manage their staff or deal with a complaint - I feel like something has changed since we went there last as it was fantastic food with excellent service. Such a shame.

First time visit to this pub. Mixture of modern and traditional with some nice pieces of art work hanging on the walls from a local artist. Staff were really friendly and it had a good atmosphere. The toilets looked new and there was decent sized outdoor area. Would happily go back.

Amazing food from phat burger, everything was delicious! Staff so friendly and welcoming as were the locals, rare for a local countryside pub, will definitely be returning. I recommend a visit to sample the food and the amazing local cheddar cider!

Excellent food and lovely service.

We ordered a takeaway for 3 from Phat Burger based at The Railway Inn. We were told it would be delivered in 30mins max. We waited over an hour. The delivery driver walked all over our estate, despite our house being clearly labelled on the street and written on the delivery bag. We were accused of giving an incorrect number before the delivery man arrived in a foul mood and told us he walked past our house twice and then complained that he was expected to climb over a fence (?!). The food was lukewarm and the kids meal was missing the drink. The kids burger was a tiny bit bigger than a canapé and was dry and tasteless. The chicken burger was 80% batter with a thin piece of chicken. The jalapeño and cheese bites were greasy. All in all a total waste of time and money. The menu looks really impressive and we know the pub staff, who are lovely, but I would strongly recommend giving Phat Burger a miss. Would give zero out of 5 if I could.

Lovely clean and friendly staff

Came here whilst camping nearby and absolutely loved it. Both myself and my partner are vegan and there were plenty of vegan options - we had the no "beef" burgers which were really tasty and massive portions! The atmosphere was very chilled and the staff are all very friendly. Definitely would recommend!

Lovely friendly local, best burgers, especially the halloumi and field mushoom..... well worth a visit.

I have eaten here a few times recently, the first time I had the beef burger which was awesome, it's just the right amount of food when you are feeling hungry. I also had the Pheasant and cider sauce pie recently which came with some green vegetables and some potatoes it was phenomenal.

We are so lucky to have The Railway as our local village pub! It's always great and the food is excellent.

Sarah and her team have not only updated the interior and exterior areas of the Railway, but have implemented very good anti Covid practices including sign in, hand gel, temperature monitoring. Felt welcomed and safe. Thanks folks. See you again soon.

Booked a table for 7.30pm. Arrived at 7.10pm and had a drink. Ordered 1 pizza and 1 burger at 7.30pm on the dot. Simply order you'd think. Walked out at 9.10pm still not served. Should have been alarmed when we could see into the kitchen from the beer garden and the waitress was furiously defrosting something in a microwave. Taking it out, putting it back in, several times. Thankfully, whatever it was, it wasn't for us. Probably a lucky escape that we didn't get served in the end. There's thousands of pubs worth visiting in England, this isn't one of them.

Jack (barmen) tried his best, felt sorry for the lad, but other male behind the bar was rude and tried to justify the reason why we didn’t have any food. To be fair you cannot justify 2 hours 10 minutes wait for food. During the time there 3 other tables of people walked out before us. We didn’t see any food come out during this time either. Come to think about could not smell food being cooked either. Honestly is the best policy so if they were having trouble filling order then they should of spoken to us. WILL NEVER GO AGAIN

Friendly village pub... A group of 10 of us booked a table, not knowing the exact time we would be there as we were out hiking. It was no problem if we were a little late. We arrived having walking for 7 hours in the rain, very wet and muddy, feeling a bit embarrassed. We were quickly served and offered to hang some of our coats up. We passed all the covid temperature and oxygen tests 😁 they have a one way system in place and everyone seemed to follow the rules. Food was amazing, most of us had burgers or pizza and was excellent. Definitely recommended

We went for a roast dinner, I had trio of meat and partner had veggie option. Best roast we’ve had for a long time and reasonable price. Only downside was we waited a long time for our dinners but it was so worth the wait and they were busy. So I didn’t knock anything off my rating for that! No idea about the drinks as I was driving! Service was fine.

Friendly atmosphere. Fabulous food. Have eaten here several times now and have not been disappointed. The food is fresh, tasty and my husband says are second to none! We definitely recommend you try it.

Recently had our Christmas do at the railway and what can I say apart from amazing!! We were a group of 26 which I know for some pubs would be hard to manage with food and drink but on a night where they also had a local band (who were awesome) they didn’t miss a beat! We were in the skittle alley which they had decorated for us and also supplied some complementary bottles of wine👍. All the food came out on time, was warm and beautiful , couldn’t fault a thing. After we ate we all went to the bar/lounge to enjoy the band where we were met by some very welcoming locals. All in all great night great food smashing atmosphere and will definitely be back soon!! Thank you!!

My wife son an parents ate here on a Tuesday night .We were welcomed by the friendly and helpful bar staff , after being shown to our tables and given the menus we all decided on steak as it is on specials on a Tuesday.The food presentation taste service and cost was excellent.Our compliments to Matt the chef and Sara and her team we will definitely be back.Well done Railways

Great atmosphere great people great food.

We visited The Railway Inn, Clutton for lunch on Sunday 20 Oct. 2019 & were very impressed with the quality of food. I enjoyed the succulent slow-roast pork & my husband had the excellent rare roast beef, with fresh veg and accompaniments . They now have a guest Chef, Matt Day, in the kitchen Thursday to Sunday. Apparently, he sources the meats and other ingredients to his requirements and it really shows in the quality of meals coming out of the kitchen. We shared a delicious homemade berry & apple crumble, with vanilla ice cream, which was truly scrumptious! They have a wide selection of beers, lagers & ciders, plus good choice of quality gins, including my favourite ‘Hendrick’s, plus a selection of Fever Tree tonic waters. Though we’re not whiskey drinkers, they also seem to have a good choice of single malts, if that’s your favourite tipple.The Railway Inn has been through a full refurbishment, so if you haven’t been there for a while, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The pub was busy and the friendly staff made everyone welcome, with a great relaxed atmosphere. Probably wise to book, as it seems to be getting more & more popular for Sunday lunch!

I like to think I make a mean Sunday roast at home (and I also like to think my family agree!) but after a visit to the Railway yesterday I can absolutely say that Matt, (the chef's) roast was meaner!! It was all delicious...the roast beef was the best I have tasted in a long time and the interesting selection of vegetables made it even better. Excellent portion sizes too. We will definitely be back to try more too, now that your menu is extending to other days. Well done to all concerned....I can't recommend highly enough and such a great place to be able to access locally!

At short notice decided to go watch the rugby while eating a Sunday lunch.Food was truly fantastic and at a very good price. They had great range of ciders on draught also, which I made the most of.We were a party of 5 with children, and the landlord couldn’t do more for us.Definitely a hidden gem in Somerset, and that takes some saying as we’re from Somerset and visited most places to eat over the last 15 years. We will definitely going back!!!One thing I found outstanding (not that I normally take much notice) was the toilets were spotless and well kept.Honestly a great pub!!

At the time of this review the place is closed for refurbishment: yeah, it doesn't say that above, eh? We went there 1/2hr ago expecting to be able to order a decent vegetarian meal for 2. Grrrrrrrrrr! Thanks for response from owner, but the milk is spilled and the manky stench remains!!!

Newly renovated, this pub looks the bees knees now, their extensive menu will mean you will find something to eat no problem, vegan veggie gluten free and carnivores alike! Little garden for kids too really friendly family pub :)

I visit this pub occasionally because the drink is actually quite nice, this is not the problem. The atmosphere in this pub is tense. It is so clicky, you immediately feel uncomfortable if you aren’t from around the area. It’s full of locals that are disrespectful to other customers trying to have a quiet drink. Tonight I sat and listened to around 10 rounds of the hit record ‘baby shark’ sung by loud annoying children. In my opinion, the staff should have asked these customers to be quieter so that everyone in the pub can enjoy their drink. There was around 5 children in the pub making a complete racket. It is a pub, not a crèche. I am in no way against children but just keep the volume down so others don’t feel uncomfortable and can enjoy a conversation without having to shout!The pub was also quite dirty, children’s toys everywhere, food on the floor, juice cartons on the floor etc. Also the girl serving behind the bar is quite clearly underage. As I said the drink is nice, the vibe just lets it down.

First time we used this pub and was very pleased with the food and drink and price also the cleanest of the pub toilets and bar will be back again for more of the great food and service.

6 of us ate lunch as mum and brother recommended this lovely village pub. My brother is a regular with his rugby pals and tells me they call their meal whale and chips due to the portion size. I thought he was exaggerating but when it arrived I could barely keep my eyeballs from popping out of my head! I was astonished and it was delicious too. Absolute bargain and well worth a visit

Great tasting 3 roast carvery with real gravy. Great value for money with fantastic staff. Choice of small, regular or large meals. Book early because there are limited tables available.

I’ve never seen such good value for money. Their car very on a Sunday is amazing value. £4.95 for a small (which is not small) During the week they offer two menus, the main one and then the light bites which is the main menu but small portions, a really good idea. The staff are very welcoming and look after you. It gets very busy for Sunday lunch so it’s probably best booking in advance.

We had been recommended this restaurant many times and were waiting to visit with family. We got impatient and went with friends. The food was lovely so much so that when we go again I’m having the light bite I felt lodged. The food was hot a nice choice and staff were friendly. Excellent value for money.

What can I say, we have been coming here for the last 2 years at least once a month. The Sunday lunch these guys put on is the best. And it's only a fiver ! Literally 4.95 for a small and it's a massive meal. Excellent meat and veg. The chefs and staff here are first class . Well done !!

Dining in a train , what could,be better. Waitress service , fabulous menu, thoroughly enjoyable . Very authentic.

Excellent service, and food. The staff were very friendly, plenty of choice on the menu and specials. Home made food, I had lasagne which came with both garlic bread and chips (usually it's one or the other). Very large I managed to get through about half of it. Absolutely delicious, full of meat, and very reasonably priced.

Went to The Railway Inn on recommendation of a friend. We went for lunch, and booked in, which was just as well as the place was busy. The staff were very friendly, helpful and polite, we instantly felt at home. We ate in the restaurant. Our order was taken fairly quickly, and the meal took about 20 mins to arrive, which for freshly cooked food was good. I ordered large fish chips and peas, and when it came it was hanging off both sides of the plate! The meal was cooked to perfection, and my wife ate hers without a word as it was so good. Can highly recommend this place and will definitely visit again.

Not a lot more to say, the meal was homemade, comes in three sizes and the medium was more than enough for me, large was far too much for my fella with a good appitite. The beef was pure heaven, as was the whole meal, far too full for dessert will go again have small meals and enjoy a dessert
