The Railway Bar & Grill in Epping Forest

Arrived to find it not open on Monday at 21.00. They need to update their socials.

Went on a Thursday evening specifically to try the Old Street Butchers burgers, which were superb, the onion rings on a different level it’s been a long time since we’ve had any as good as these, definitely coming back. It was a quite evening not very busy in the pub, the lady behind the bar was helpful gave us a taste of a beer we hadn’t had before, the chef delivered our burgers and excellent chips.

Great place for the kids on a sunny day. Decent garden, with bouncy castle (on two separate visits in August and September). Menu is a bit limited but what they have is great. Service is great and staff are lovely. Nothing on pumps, but they have an ale or two (I was drinking Neck Oil).

Deafening loud music most Saturday afternoon/evenings mean local residents have to keep doors and windows shut. No consideration for local residents in particular, nearby old people's homes.

Dirty, very overpriced, bad service ( not friendly woman ) 🤷‍♂️ no go there again.

The default loud music and flashing lights are not conducive to a catch up with friends over a few drinks. A very unsophisticated pub environment that appears extremely confused over its identity and target audience. Pub or nightclub? The atmosphere is clearly a creation from the management's personal preferences that simply do not resinate with the mainstream's expectations, evident from the lack of customers.

A big crowd of us there and was a very nice experience . Lovely food. 😍

Avoid - better places to go locally. Conveniently located but cliquey as Friar Tuck. Little troll behind the bar will make up things about your party, damaging things at that - with no redress. At least I found out on my first day as a new resident in the parish. Stop the slander though unless you want a civil case at your doorstep.

Never in my life have I been to a pub that has run out of 5 different types of lager/beer. How they stay open is a mystery.

The best thing about this pub is its massive beer garden (some of which is heated and covered) which even had a bouncy castle for the kids (good, as they're not allowed in the main bar). Of course, it's called the Railway for a good reason: sit in the beer garden and you'll get very familiar with the regularity of the Central Line pulling in and out of Buckhurst Hill. Good selection of drinks and decent toilets. Staff are very friendly and there are plenty of screens for big events and special nights (check the 'what's on' bored).

Excellent food service was great and friendly

Went a couple of weeks ago really gone downhill. Filthy garden with broken fence piled up. Paid £2.30 for a glass of squash! No grass left in the garden.

Great vibe with nice outdoor section. Never tried the food but everything else always been good.

Looks great. Great beer, great pizza and great people. And I even liken the music but it can be a bit loud to have a conversation but it was Friday night.

Nice friendly environment with great food. We tried the Indian food which is served from Mon - Wed. The pub sits right next to the tube station, which is very convenient. Great value.

Decent boozer, 2 stars taken off for kinda rubbish DJ, 90 mins of songs nobody has heard of, and person collecting glasses deciding to "collect" my half full pint sticking her fingers in ( god knows where they have been) and then putting back down when realising it was half full. Lovely. Didn't even apologise.

Bright and open, nice garden, low choice of beers but has a happy hour some days. Great staff and nice Guinness.

Went with my partner and his friend to meet others for a soul all dayer, the atmosphere was lovely and Everyone was very friendly, would go again & recommend others to check out this venue

Went to a really good music event, great atmosphere. Only downside is the minimum spend of £10 on your card, if you have no cash. You have to buy more or go to a local cashpoint! I had one double drink all evening for £9.30 as I was driving. Didn't really want to go to the bar and ask for tap water!!

Average little pub, very friendly staff, but if you like Thai food, Monday- Wednesday, then this is a special treat, excellent. Its just a shame that the surroundings dont do the food justice. But if can live with this, you will enjoy your visit for sure.

I booked my partners 40th birthday here and couldn’t have been happier with the whole team, from the manager, to the bar and kitchen staff. They were so accommodating from finding an area inside their pub for 30 incase of rain (we had booked outside) to delaying the food and fixing the trampoline for us. So many of our party praised the venue, (especially the food which was delicious) the staff were really friendly and a good laugh too! Thanks for ensuring that we had a fabulous afternoon!

Haven’t been here for many years, but since my mother-in-law moved in next door, we have been three times in the last week. The food is excellent, prices are reasonable, music is banging, great atmosphere; but most of all the staff are outstanding. We will now be regulars.

Last Saturday I went to this bar with my girl, because they were doing a Caribbean Notting Hill carnival theme for that day. Amazing rum punches and an authentic Caribbean BBQ plus a great live steel band called Solid Steel and some wicked reggae from the gaffer, Denis, himself on the decks. I had a great time and I can't recommend this place enough!

Easy access via Central Line. Good atmosphere. Friendly, professional staff. Spacious and clean environment. Huge outdoor space with small children play area.

Love coming in the Railway each time I visit. Been in here about 2 years now. It's always the place we come to for a beer or two. Maybe eating here will have to happen sometime. Summer time with such a massive garden is always a winner but even in the colder wetter days the bars perfect too.

Great girls Friday night out. Dj Rusoul was really good. Nice friendly bar staff. Mixed crowd all up for a good night was like a private party. Couple minutes walk from Buckhurst Hill underground. Definitely will revisit.

Since the refurb and new ownership it’s become the best pub in the area.

Came here on the off chance after the place we normally go was too busy and am I glad we did. We had calamari which was probably the best I've ever eaten. The roast beef was amazing as was the sliders and the deserts. The place had only been open two days when we visited but the staff were very professional. The only part of the meal that let me down a bit was the veg could have been cooked a little longer but I understand some people prefer it a bit harder which is why I still gave 5 stars. I would definitely be back again.

After reading the reviews I was left feeling deflated. However, by the time I had arrived I had forgotten what to expect. The public house has been revamped and has a lovely fresh, clean atmosphere. The staff were all friendly and accommodating and the DJ team were a dream. They managed to capture past tracks and anthems of EFCC that everyone was familiar of. It was definitley a great night. I hope there is a steady supply for the foreseeable future. Us girls don't get a chance to go out anymore. We need this!!!
