service was a good standard and the food was excellent, Went for a family sunday lunch while down in skirlaugh for a wkend family birthday. All fresh home cooked food, decent sized portions . It was very busy so waited a little while to get food but i cant say it wasnt worth the wait, and very reasonabley priced

Donna and i visited Sunday 13th October for Donna's birthday. I went for a Sunday lunch of Pork, and Donna decided to have the homemade steak pie. Firstly both were presented beautifully and far above what you would expect in a pub, if that does not sound insulting to the hosts. The Sunday lunch was absolutely beautiful, the meat was tender and plenty of it, the veg was cooked just right for me, well every part was so very nice and moreish. Donna said her pie was stunning with the meat so tender with melt in the mouth pastry. We normally do not have puddings but just could not resist, the apple and rhubarb with custard was a lovely treat for me, and Donna had the cheesecake of the day, salted caramel, and as an added extra the staff who were lovely and attentive and friendly throughout, brought out her pudding with a lit birthday candle in, which really did show that special touch. A big shout out to the chefs behind the scene for a cracking job, and to Luke, Phil,Rhys and the lady who tended our table and made our visit so relaxing, didnt catch her name, but thank you so much to all. It was our first visit but wont be our last.

My partner and I stayed at The Railway Inn on 12th September, we travelled on our Harley which was safely parked around the back. Our room number 3 was beautifully decorated, comfortable with amazing views across arable countryside. The restaurant serves reasonably priced home cooked food in relaxing surroundings, offering a wide choice of delicious food. We found all of the staff to be knowlegable and friendly with a warm welcome. Breakfast is an additional £10 but well worth it with juice and hot drinks included, delicious and plentiful. Overall a fantastic find which we would not hesitate to visit again and recommend to anyone. Thank you x

We were on holiday nearby and came to the Railway Inn for Sunday lunch. Booked a table in advance via their website online, which is just as well because it was a very popular spot and they were really busy. After placing our order we waited approximately 30 minutes for our food to arrive, which we didn’t mind. The food was delicious. We’d ordered Turkey roast dinner, Homemade Steak pie and one small portion roast beef and one regular roast beef dinner. My only complaint is that the small portion didn’t appear to be very different from the regular portion (I think maybe one less roast potato!) If I’d known I would have just ordered a smaller dinner. But it tasted good and the service was fine.

Excellent food as always, staff are very attentive and welcoming especially Izzy who went above and beyond to make our visit that extra special.. one of our favourite places to eat.

Fabulous! On arrival we were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome which certainly goes a long way. The restaurant was really busy but this didn’t seem to be a problem as the staff were still friendly, attentive and efficient. Great pub in a lovely party of the world. Recommended by one of our party of 5. Hadn’t booked but we were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Busy for a Saturday lunchtime and nice atmosphere. The service was excellent and the food sublime. Special pie of the day was steak Guinness and black pudding which was rated 10/10 by husband. Others had steak pie Red Thai curry (a special) and bbq chicken which was equally as fantastic. Small portions available for the smaller appetite. A really lovely pub and we will be back.

always consistently good, you know its going to be worth the visit, only thing we would change is fresh brown bread to go with fish and chips, two young women managing the bar, waitressing, clearing etc, without any fuss, nothing was too much trouble, give them a pay rise

I’ve passed this place literally hundreds of times over the years, been recommended too, this is definitely a hidden gem in the Yorkshire crown. Visited very last minute, booked via telephone, very accommodating, attended 30 mins later. On arrival we instantly noticed it was a very popular place, coupled with exceptional customer service, we where greeted, offered drinks, then shown to our table in the restaurant area, it was our first visit and everything was explained. After a few moments the same female waitress took our order, called Molly i believe, consisting of Sunday carvery options, with extra trimmings. The food arrived promptly, we were amazed at the size of the Yorkshire puddings, clearly not a factory produced specimen. All of the food was great, the meat was absolutely exceptional. We finished the meal off with cheese cake of the day and coffee, again, both were very nice and individual to the place. Absolutely exceptional service from start to finish. Thank you ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

While in the area on holiday for the new year, we rang and booked a table for 4 . Warm welcome, friendly staff. A good choice on the menu of pub favourites. We had American chicken, rump steak , fish & chips & small haddock goujons. The food was lovely, fresh, proper chips! Im always wary of the cut rump, but it was cooked perfectly melted in the mouth - compliments to chef! Potions were big and price reasonable. A very warm , comfortable feel to the place. We greedily shared at 2 puddings - both nice 👍🏻 Would definitely reccomended shame we don't live closer to return often.

We brought a party of 25 people in from the Bilton Social Circle for our annual Christmas Lunch. The meal, service and staff were excellent and could not be faulted in any way. The Restaurant was very busy. nothing was to much trouble for the under pressure staff, Well Done every one Brian and Pauline Bilton Social Circle.

Wonderful meal and superb staff as usual. Unfortunately only 4 stars as we couldn’t hear ourselves speak due to a large party of females who insisted on being as noisy and disruptive as possible. Set the smoke alarm off with a birthday candle and had no consideration for the other diners. They either needed to moderate their alcohol intake and have some respect for others or be seated elsewhere other than the restaurant area. Other tables commented on how noisy they were and how it had spoilt their evening too. Such a shame as it is usually a lovely place to dine.

Another lovely Sunday roast at The Railway. Opted for small plate with one meat, they do offer a selection but too much last time. Great friendly service, you must book to avoid disappointment.

We visited last night and were pleasantly surprised to find a winter warmers menu with 3 courses for £16. Every course, we had 3, was amazingly good. We would happily choose exactly the same again, each course was perfect, the syrup sponge with cream was divine. Cannot wait to return next time we are in the area.

Well this is a little gold mine not to be missed. We were staying nearby in a lodge with a pub on sight but reviews were not great so decided to try the highly recommended railway inn. Being gluten free I couldn’t believe the choice on the menu and never have I been able to order a gluten free pie and chips before when out. The pie was filled with lots of lean steak and was freshly made, piping hot. My partner had the “hunters chicken” again an excellent dish with lots of pure meat. Can not recommend the food highly enough and very reasonable for the quality. Staff very pleasant and attentive. A proper country pub with high quality home cooked food!

We went at 5.30pm on Saturday night with no booking and were told they were full...... but Jolene was so helpful and said wait 10 mins some people might be going soon, and she got us in. The staff were amazing! My wife had the chicken skewer and it was amazing! I had the steak pie and chips, wowww! One of the best pies I have ever had. The atmosphere was lovely, with a nice chilled vibe. The only tiny criticism would be the wait time for the food to arrive, which was 45 minutes. If they can speed that up a touch, this place would be 5 star in my book. And it was worth the wait tbh. Overall a great place and had a brill night. I visited with family for a special lady’s 88th birthday. It certainly didn’t disappoint! I got a mixed meat roast dinner which was delicious, lovely amount of meat accompanied by freshly piped mashed potato, roast potatoes and a massive Yorkshire pudding. Great amount of veg and as much gravy as you care to have! We certainly will be returning, maybe next time I’ll have the pie as I got serious food envy when I saw one of our parties pie! Lovely food!

I often stay at the railway inn for work. This was the first time I had food. Many of my colleagues have praised the food and they were not wrong. The choice was very good for a start. I had the haddock gujons and proper chips. It was very good!! The beer selection is also great and the atmosphere is really friendly. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. I feel very welcome here and will keep coming back.

Classic pub fayre. Served promptly by helpful staff and we weren’t waiting an age for the food to come out. Pub very busy so popular with tourists and locals alike.

We were spoilt for choice at The Railway. We opted for chicken and tarragon pie with new potatoes (the potatoes are always so good) and the Yorkshire pudding loaded with roast beef which was a huge portion, both off the specials. Glad we booked as it was busy even on a Wed at 6.30pm. Can't wait to go again next time we're staying at Willow Pastures, it's a nice walk along the trail.

The best scampi & chips we have ever had. Huge portions, amazing service & very clean. We traveled from Chester to see family and brought my grandma to her favourite restaurant, never disappointed.

We had Sunday lunch and it was generous, perfectly cooked and delicious. I was the only one with the traditional roast meal, and I love that there are options for everyone. From an authentically-spiced thai green curry, to fish goujons to a truly "home made from scratch" steak mushroom and red wine pie. We live nearby and go often . We are never disappointed.
