The Racing Greyhound in Thanet

Had a delicious meal here starters and mains, the young lad that served us was fantastic as were most of the cheerful and friendly staff and the food portions were generous. We were looking forward to returning, However it was 'suggested' Infront of the entire pub as we were leaving by the larger lady with dark hair that we hadn't paid the bill. We had been laughing with staff and were nothing but polite so can only assume she thought we were stealing due to a race issue as none of the old white people that dined there were treated in the same way. Now regret leaving a generous tip.

I've given this venue more chances than a cat with nine lives, but I'm done. It's my closest pub, so I’ve returned several times, hoping for improvement, but I won’t be going back. Meals are consistently bland, as if flavor is a crime. Chips are always undercooked—one time, they were still frozen. Dry burgers with not a hint of relish and overcooked cod paired with undercooked chips. My latest visit this past Friday was the last straw. It wasn't even a busy night, so there's really no excuse. After a decent start with prompt service for our main course, the evening rapidly declined. It took 15 minutes for someone to clear our table and bring the dessert menu. No one came to take our order, so after 20 minutes of waiting, we had to go on a staff scavenger hunt—so much for table service. I've worked in restaurants, pubs, and golf clubs, so I know the drill, and it certainly doesn't take over half an hour to pour half a pint. Another round of drinks ordered during this time never arrived. Half an hour later, we finished dessert without the drinks we paid for or the promised tea to go with the dessert. Once more, we embarked on a quest to find staff to cancel these phantom beverages and pay the bill. The poor drink selection doesn't help either. The food is terrible. The interior is passable at best, but the back room is another story—think elderly care home disco vibes with tacky disco balls and cheap curtains hiding the venue's only charm. The entertainment last Friday was rather... intriguing: a young lady singing old pop songs in what looked like her underwear to a crowd of pensioners. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. With (quiet) a few tweaks, it could be great. So why is the management stuck in the dark ages? Who are they trying to cater to?

Dont expect hot food... And Dogs roam freely in the cooking area Food came out cold twice. Management were blunt and rude. Dogs in the kitchen area, so i doubt their hygene is too good. Would not visit again

Excellent food and service as always

Haven't been in for a while, service was so slow, waiter didn't really listen, kept repeating. The food really wasn't good, felt undercooked for fish n chips, over cooked for peas, veg n fish pie. Chap who put food on table for some reason added an IE to the end of everything. As in here is your CODDIES , FISHIE PIE, best of all NEWIES, relating to the new potatoes. Won't be back despite it being our local. What has happened to pub food. Used to be fresh and good value. Sadly now dish any old rubbish up. Avoid

Excellent food very generous portions staff all outstanding and all for a reasonable price.

We stayed here in our campervan overnight and cannot tell you how welcomed we were. The staff were really friendly and our dogs were greeted by the owner with a bowl of water and ice creams. Sunday roast was great with a large selection of fresh veg and the steak pie was amazing! We had a few drinks in the bar after and chatted to the very friendly locals. A great night. Thank you.

I phoned up asking when kitchen closed, they said around 30 min...I said could we have 2 steak and Ale pies plz and we'll be 15min...no problem they replied. The food was amazing...and the spotted dick and custard after was also lovely....I highly recommend this pub, staff excellent, food excellent 👌🏼 what more could you ask for 👍🏻

A lovely little local pub. The food is brilliant quality with huge portions and the puddings are amazing.

Potatoes need cooking in oven for longer as fairly hard to bite into, other than that the dinner was lovely.

Great family pub with excellent food

Have never visited here before and decided to give it a try. Very welcoming staff, followed by an excellent Farmhouse Salad for both of us (very generous portions and well worth the price). Great ambience in the bar as well, just like a proper pub should be! Will definitely return. Caroline.

Just your typical local pub, nice outdoor seating and the food is pretty decent too.

Ordered food 30mins past said they have no sirloin steak then 5 mins later no scampy onion rings 45 mins in total waiting for starters

We hired the function room for a funeral wake - the service from start to finish was excellent - a great room with own bar - food was plentiful and amazing and the bar staff were all very helpful and attentive - a fantastic price and perfect venue for Mums final party - thank you all xxx

I had my 60 th party at the Greyhound Pub in Ramsgate on Saturday 8th June. It is a fabulous venue , this is the third time I have used this function room and I am never disappointed. Great food, great staff and a lovely interior and outside space. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.

Been meaning to try here for dinner for years after seeing meals come through while occasionally in there and hearing good reports. Wow should have visited ages ago, just had a meal for a table of 7 and the food and service was outstanding. The quality of everyone's meals were brilliant and the prices are very competitive and what can I say about the portion sizes, you won't leave hungry. Much better than the chain offerings and cheaper. Give the place a try you like me won't be disappointed, I'll be returning in a few weeks for my birthday and can't wait. Thanks to all that looked after us so well.

Have been going here for a number of years and am so please they are up and running again after the fire. Lovely food as usual. i have the sunday roast which was very good and great value. off to try the Jolly Farmer again next week which is under the same management.

The racing greyhound is an absolutely fabulous place to go to eat, we have never had a bad meal here, I can get very busy on their steak night which is a Thursday but discount that because the food is more than excellent.

Food was fab, freshly cooked and presented well. Staff were polite and courteous.

We booked our table 3 weeks ago as this place is very popular with families and couples . On arrival we were shown to our table and a member of staff took out drinks order while we looked at the vast and various menu of food available. We ordered half roast chicken and homemade steak and ale pie . I will let the photos to tempt you to go. The staff are very good and always on hand to help you decide your choices .

Had a family lunch here after travelling down from Crawley. We received a warm friendly welcome from the staff. The pub has a nice atmosphere with friendly locals and it's comfortable and bright. We had lunch which was delicious and portions were good and the prices were very reasonable.

Went for a Wednesday roast dinner. The venue and staff were fine but the meal was disappointing. It could have been the timing but there was only Roast beef or Turkey left so went for beef. Had a bit of a wait as there was a wake gathering on at the same time. The beef arrived with gravy & a Yorkshire pudding and separate dishes of veg and roast potatoes/new potatoes. Our first thought was 'where's the rest?' The beef was a bit stringy and chewy & the roast potatoes were hard because they were burnt, so were probably what was left at the end of service. Although it was reasonably priced, unfortunately the quality & size of the meal wasn't.

Attended a function and the buffet was yummy, the staff were friendly and welcoming- a fab time had by all!

Always fantastic service and food!

I can not rate the Racing Greyhound highly enough. We held a function in the function room. The room was spotless and is a blank canvass to add your own decorations. All staff were so kind and helpful especially Debbie who does such an amazing job. We had a buffet style meal. The food was hot with a big range of choice and absolutely delicious. Drinks were all very reasonable. If you are looking for a place to hold a function this is it. We have already booked our next one. Will be returning soon to try the main menu.

I had a 30th birthday party here last night, the food was amazing that they put out for us all and all of the staff were absolutely brilliant all night so massive shout out to all of you and that starts right at the top with the management. We will definitely be back

So glad that this wonderful pub is back serving food after their kitchen was damaged in a fire. Popped in with my hubby on their first Monday back, food is just as good as ever and very well priced. Service was excellent too!

So glad they have opened again for food after a kitchen fire at the end of last year. Popped in to see when they were going to start food again and to my delight was told they started yesterday. So i decided to have lunch and they inspite of being nearly fully booked, fitted me in. It was about 12 noon and by the time i left it was very full. The food was excellent as it has always been and the staff friendly and welcoming. So welcome back and i will be visiting again especially as i live round the corner!!

Great pub, run by lovely people. Well worth a visit. Got a great outside area for summer and a function room if you want a private party. Great food and very reasonable prices.

Pub was packed as there was a charity quiz going on but service was still friendly and efficient. Following a fire in the kitchen there is no hot food available but should be in January

A much smaller venue inside than anticipated. Most of it is occupied by a hireable section. That said the bar area that is available is adequate and plenty of seats, though it was a very quiet Monday afternoon when we visited. Sadly no food is available following a fire in the kitchen a week or so ago. It is hoped food will be available again from December 2023 but do call to check! Staff were friendly and prices were average for Ramsgate.

Fast efficient service. Popped in at the end of lunch and the carpark was full so had to find somewhere on road to park. The Salmon was only £13 and massive with a choice of sides included. Fantastic value for money. Food was out within 15 minutes and we'd had to wait for a table to be free. Would definetly return.

Been here many times always great selection of food and great cheerful staff. You need to be hungry as you get a real big plate full x

Went to a wedding reception. Was a lovely place to hold such an event. Friendly bar staff and the buffet was one of the best I've had.

Warm welcome, friendly staff with good service. Food good value and generous portions. Have visited regularly over the last 6 weeks; last visit team were serving multiple events as well as walk-ins and locals - always attentive and efficient. Brilliant. The food is excellent, huge portions, great value for money. So many desserts to choose from. We have to go back just so we can try other meals and desserts next time. The staff are attentive, friendly and professional. We hadn't planned on eating out, we were passing and thought we would grab a sandwich, ended up with a full 2 course meal and drinks. Highly recommend this amazing pub/restaurant.

Great pub grub (and plenty of it), well priced, attentive staff. It's no wonder you have to book in advance to get a table.

Used the function room but it soon became clear that smoke from those smoking outside started to get into the room. The buffet food was excellent but the service from the bar was very slow, probably because there was no dedicated function room server.

This venue is incredible. We've been now on numerous occasions and use it for the ambience, the great staff and management. The hygiene standards and the exceptional quality food. I can't even begin to tell you how many meals we've tried. How many specials we've eaten here. Nor the number of naughty but extremely nice desserts we've consumed. We've held parties and wakes here. Entertained family and friends. On every occasion, every person has commented on the quality of the meals, the portion sizes and the value. If we're not eating there, they're either closed or we are on holiday. The staff work tirelessly to ensure that everyone is happy and they do an amazing job. Everyone deserves to treat themselves here. You won't be disappointed.

It was a quick visit so I'd not want to rate here going on my past experiences. I didn't eat but had previously and there was a function on so they may of been more busy than usual otherwise it wasfine

Such a lovely family meal out tonight. All staff were friendly, attentive and professional. The tables and cutlery very clean, and the food was absolutely gorgeous. We had the steak night meal for 2 which included a bottle of wine, plus a children's meal, 2 drinks and 3 desserts which were all flawless and delicious. Extremely well priced considering the 5 star quality of our evening. Highly recommend. If you look up the facebook page they have specials on most nights too plus events, they hire out a lovely function room and there is plenty of outdoor seating and an enclosed play area for children so very family friendly.
