The Queen's Head in Colchester

Booked for 5pm on a Sunday for a Birthday, placed drinks order which was fine ordered starters and 6pm still no sign of food .Had to prompt them 6.10pm starters arrived clearly the order was forgotten. Food was OK service was awful .So noisy couldn't here the person next to me ruined the day won't go back.

Food was excellent, portions were really good.. service very good and staff friendly, going back in a couple of weeks. Highly recommended.

Lovely sized function room. Service slow on function room bar but quick on main bar. Food is expensive but good portion sizes.

My family and I had the most delicious Sunday Roast yesterday at The Queens in West Bergholt (not our first time). Yesterday we had a party of 8 but other times more. The staff are friendly, efficient and knowledgeable of the menus, regularly coming back to our table ensuring we had everything we wanted and taking numerous drinks orders. We ordered The Queens Head sharing roast which was both excellent for its flavour and fresh ingredients. All food came out at the same time (as requested) and was served hot. Without a doubt the best Sunday roast ever, which is why we have and will continue to enjoy our family meals at The Queens Head. Also, big up to the chef and the waitresses.

This pub is a shambles. The atmosphere and vibe was very off and did not feel welcomed at all. I over heard what I presumed was the manager or the owner swearing in ear shot of my kids. I certainly do not recommend going here for a drink or food for that matter if your after a family friendly pub.

Lovely place, lovely surroundings, polite and welcoming staff and delicious food.

My daughter had her baby shower at the Queens Head West Bergholt and I can’t recommend this place enough! They have a separate room which you can decorate, which has access to outdoor space if needed, the room has its own area to order drinks instead of having to go into the pub area. The Staff are brilliant nothing is too much trouble and they will accommodate different things you might require, along with being friendly there service was bang on and 25 meals were delivered all together. The meals are second to none with large portions and fresh ingredients and the price is so good! We paid £25 a head for a 3 course meal and there were so many compliments from everyone I wouldn’t hesitate to come here again a real hidden gem.

Lovely pub with nice staff and the food was very tasty.

We ate in the conservatory. Lovely lady served us. We chose from the 747 menu. Smaller meals but very tasty. Dessert menu looked good but we managed to resist. We asked for a glass of water and were provided with a jug.

First time in this pub. Went with friends for a quiz night. Lots of fun. Obviously extremely busy but the staff were really on the ball. Service was great. Definitely go again.

Good beer selection and fast service

We took some friends here for a meal and drinks. The food was very nice and tasty. The service was reasonable. We were sat in a booth in a large room and it was very noisy, to the point where we could hardly hear each other speak. Very little parking. Shame....

Trying to explore more pubs in the Colchester area and this Sunday we were really wanted a roast. The Queen's head was friendly and didn't disappoint. We picked the sharer roast for 2 with chicken pork and beef and they were all really well cooked. There was enough meat and veg for atleast 3 hungry people. Yorkshires were big and crispy. Definitely on our list of pubs to return to as lots on the menu and we were too full to try deserts.

Had a lovely lunch at the pub. The food was really tasty and very generous. Service was very friendly and attentive. The homemade pie had loads of meat inside it and was very tender. Will def come back

We came here for an early Christmas "work do" on a Wednesday lunch time. We were a large group (hence we had pre-ordered our meals) and we were really impressed by the quality of the food and the service. The staff were so kind and helpful. The food far exceeded my expectations - I had sea bass followed by pear frangipane tart. Absolutely delicious! Thank you to all the staff who worked so hard on the day, especially to Katherine who was serving at the bar (sorry if I have spelled your name wrong!)

The beef was really tough and other meats were very dry, however the staff were great and attentive

I popped in here for Saturday lunch and wasn't disappointed. This is a lovely village pub run very well by the owners. You will need two stomachs as the portions vary generous. The beer great to.....I will definitely be back

We had an event for 60 people when our partner Dutch football team visited. We had the private room with a 2 course sit down meal. Great food and the boys enjoyed playing pool and darts afterwards.

We were invited to a party in the downstairs room of the pub. The room was lovely and bright and has access to a separate bar. The food was really good with large portions. I had the vegetable spring rolls and a bean burger with sweet potato fries. I recommend visiting for veggies and vegans 🌱

Nice little find whilst waitin for a customer to return. 4 screens in one room, most comfortable bar seats/stools ive ever sat on and nice height benches. Blackstuff is cheaper than anywhere local to me so i’ll be back. Didnt try the nosh but on seeing some go past i wished i had. May bring the girlfriend next visit, wife doesn’t drink ;-)

Had a lovely afternoon at a baby shower in the garden plenty of space outside, food good, parking space as well, didn't go inside so can't comment about that but hope this might be of some use.

Great pub and restaurant, we've eaten there a few times and always been impressed with the food and value. We also held our wedding reception there and they couldn't have been more helpful, all our guests commented on what a lovely spot it was with outdoor and indoor space to enjoy.

Nice pub just very small car park and very good prices

We held a party here on Saturday night and the staff could not have been more accommodating for us. The space was beautiful and we even had part of the garden sectioned off. The pub itself is lovely, clean and spacious and my family and friends had the best time. I would highly recommend for any event. My daughters also ate there whilst they were decorating and she said it was the best ham, egg and chips she had ever had. They did a really lovely “buffet” type food for us in the evening which everyone complimented. Thank you so much, you made the evening amazing!

We held a private party for my parents in their event space on the weekend just gone. The staff were fantastic and super accommodating, the food was great and the pub itself is clean, spacious and has a great selection of beers and drinks. Can’t thank the staff enough for such a great evening!

Poor service only 4 other people in restaurant but had to wait over one hour for food when we got it the quality was not good lasagne was baked up ham egg and chips not good at all no taste chilli con carne with nachos which were Doritos on top Will not be coming back

I have eaten at The Queens Head several times, the food and pub is lovely. I wanted to give 5 stars because of that and, when I popped in last week during a 8 mile walk, I went to buy a bottle of water and the barman said don't worry and filled my bottle up for free. Little things but that makes the difference, thank you.

Just returned from our first visit and it will probably be our last. The food was mediocre at best. We both have good appetites but couldn’t bring ourselves to finish either course which says a lot. Shame as was expecting good things after reading reviews. The service was good however and couldn’t fault them.

Highly recommended! We booked the willow room for our daughters second birthday and it was perfect! The food was amazing and the staff were so polite and helpful! We will definitely be booking the room again!

Disgusting customer service and we sent both our meals back. One which they refused to take off our bill dispite the fact I couldnt eat it. The chips were dripping in grease and the table, menu and glasses on the table were all dirty. The chef came out once we had complained about our food and stood in the restaurant being very argumentative and sarcastic. I was complaining about food I couldnt eat and the disrespect I got from that left me feeling very stressed and upset. She could clearly see I am heavily pregnant and she continued to come at me and be extremely rude raising her voice and flapping her hands around. Apparently according to them the customer isn't always right. Worst experience I have ever had dining out in a pub and would never return.

Popped in for lunch & was really impressed, I had the fish & chips which were very nice, then I had a Nestle Munchies cheesecake for desert, now this was amazing 🤤 I'd happily recommend this place to family & friends👍🏻 We will be back soon.

Lovely old fashioned pub with a very modern dining area at the back. The food is incredible both in quality and quantity. The staff are hospitable and incredibly accommodating. We held a reception after my dad's funeral today and could not have chosen a better place. Thank you so much

Good service and good food. Excellent out door seating area. We enjoyed starters, which were surprisingly large. Mains were also well sized. The chicken in both the Hunter's Chicken and on the chicken burger, were full sized breasts. We were stuffed (in fact, neither of us could finish, which was unusual). Only quibble, is that their knives need to be sharper, as cutting through the meat was quite difficult. Good variety on the menu and would visit again.

Been a long time since I've been in the Queens Head, major changes have occurred and for the better. Great to see at least two of the village pubs are still going.

We were in a party. The fish and chips and chocolate brownie were super. The staff friendly and attentive.

Lovely calming atmosphere in the conservatory part and very bright and airy which was lovely. The garden is lovely and very comfortable and love the fire pits in the tables, nice touch. Food I had was really nice and very filling so no room for pudding even though I don't have a bit appetite anyway. Was made to feel welcome and they were understanding as I can't wear a mask due to health issues. Bit pricey for what we had as one of us only had chips but was a special occasion so was fine occasionally. Would definitely go back.

Friday lunchtime, only 4 tables occupied - service was terrible, classic 'serving the locals first' and ignoring the other paying customers. Food took ages to come out, yet others who arrived a good 15 mins after us, got their food 15 mins before us. Felt very unwelcome... oh and the 'locals' are allowed to walk around to the toilets WITHOUT masks unchallanged during COVID restrictions. Food was pretty average too. Wont be going back here in a hurry...
