Lovely local pub, great location and good selection of local ales

Really good food. Really friendly place - the staff thought of everything for our party of 8, including kids.

Had a week in instow and finding this place was a little gem , cannot fault anything and hope to return in the future.

Nice old fashioned pub facing Appledore. Some outside seating in the sun. Good food reasonably priced & well kept ales. Worth a visit.

Fantastic service coupled with the best food in instow. The absolute best steak and ale pie I’ve ever had. Highly recommended

A good pub, didn't have food only drinks after a bike ride. They serve Sam's Cider from Winkleigh which is amazing, well worth trying. The poor chap behind the bar was on his own dealing with the entire bar and all the diners, so wait times were understandably a little long. Gorgeous views right by the beach/estuary.

If I could, I would give it no star. I recently moved to Bideford. Something easy to notice every time I walk around here and Instow is that I'm the only Latin around. Once, I decided to follow the Tarka, and after walking, I stopped at this pub. As soon as I entered the place, a big group sitting straight in front of the balcony (six or seven people) went utterly silent. That was uncomfortable already, but I was thirsty and needed a glass of water. So, I asked the young man for a lager and a glass of water. He filled the glasses and put them on the balcony. I reached my Amex credit card to pay for my order, but their machine couldn't accept my card. For me, it was not even a problem because I had my phone and could instantaneously transfer the money from my account to the pub account. I asked for their bank information, and the person serving me said they did not have an account! THE-PUB-DOESN'T-HAVE-A-BANK-ACCOUNT! 🤌🏾 All those people in silence who could quickly have helped me and accepted the bank transference I was offering to pay for what I ordered kept quiet. A lady washing the dishes beside the man came behind him, whispering something and could not even look me in the face. The young man then got both of the glasses back and preferred to throw the beer I ordered in the drain rather than give me the option to pay and consume my order. I had to ask the water to walk back because I was dead thirsty. He finally gave me the glass of water; I turned to the big group and calmly drank it whilst everybody insisted on detouring the looking, disguising the awful environment and everything that just happened before anybody's eyes. Did I mention I was the only black/Latin person there?

Great Sunday lunch to break our returning to Bideford via cycle path Tarka Trail.

Lovely atmosphere, we only went in beers and a coffee and the dogs were spoiled with biscuits.

5 runners running the south west coast path so hungry! Had food in this pub for 3 nights all 5 of us had great food every night highly recommend.

Lovely pub, good location. I found the prices ridiculously high though. I had a pie and it was extremely salty but the meat was cooked well and fell apart which was lovely but the salt ruined it. Good drinks selection and staff were friendly. Very local in the sense that everyone knows everyone so you feel stared at when you come in from your bike ride. Pub definitely relies on its location to price things as high as they like. My desert was £8 and pretty small. I wouldn’t come back again purely because it was so expensive.

No chef so no cooked food, settled for a pasty. Great coffee. There us a coffee from time to time but haven't tried his/her food

After a 8km walk from home this was our oasis in the desert! Friendly barman, excellent food. Just wish we could have stayed longer, but had to walk home via the ferry!

We loved this place, the atmosphere was relaxing and the staff were truly great, friendly and accommodating 👍. It isn't a huge place, so we phoned the night before and booked. The food we had was fresh and generous portions. We had deep-fried whitebait between us as a starter, my hubby had the mussels which l think was on the specials board, the sauce was delicious! The mussels were accompanied by a french stick and a portion of french fries. You needed this to mop up the gorgeous sauce. I had the scampi with chips, peas, and tartar sauce. There is parking that belongs to the pub just 100 yards up the road, we managed to get a place so for once this holiday we managed to avoid the dreadful parking charges. The view from the pub is lovely overlooking the estuary and boats, but you'll need a window table or simply enjoy a drink outside or look at the view whilst walking. Very dog friendly 👍, thank you

Tea is always good, as are the Belgium buns and the bacon rolls. Great place for breakfast before the shops open.

Lovely friendly pub, and the food is absolutely delicious! We had whitebait, garlic prawns and garlic mushrooms as a lunchtime meal to share, and every dish was a winner. Also you can park in their little car park on the front, which is definitely a bonus. Lovely views over the estuary , and dog friendly too.

Good selection of local ales. Tarka lager was excellent and worthy of the 10 mile bike ride alone! £5 per pint is the cost of such amazing views across the quay! Stans Cheddar cider is a must to try🥰

We just had s drink but it seems popular.. they do take away food too.

Ordered local crab sandwiches they only had white bread left which was ok. . At £9.50 each with a few crisps I thought being local crab would be good. When they arrived the filling was more like a cheap crab paste than fresh crab.Sent them back, after a few minutes owner came back and said thats what they usually serve! Worst crab sandwiches Ive had in a long time very disappointed. Spoke to other people who had food and there meals had been good. If they didn't have much crab left they should have said rather than charging full price for poor quality food.

Really good food and drinks - reasonably priced, but best of all we’re the staff. A big shout out to them - made the early evening ‘tea’ most enjoyable.

We had a wonderful visit to The Quay in spite of a rather wet day outside and with Dogs in toe. We were well accommodated and the staff were very helpful and polite. We had a fantastic and fresh seafood meal with well done pub accompaniments (kids, burgers and fries...) And Instow is a wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended visiting The Quay!

It is very difficult to find decent food for vegetarian daughter but the veggie burger was excellent. Also had 3 other meals all great food and tasty.

Best pint of Doombar I've had for a long time.

We really enjoyed the Quay, lovely seafood with great cheesy chips! That mixed with some good real ales, superb cider & great staff & the bill came in at just over 40 quid - & that included a home made cheesecake with ice-cream to share! Will be back

Great location. Sit outside in the sunshine with a view over the estuary watching the wildlife. The beer is good and the staff are friendly. Worth a visit.

A lovely basic pub that accepts both children and dogs. A range of food from sandwiches to pub grub and daily specials. Good range of local ales, ciders and lagers.

Lovely view of Torrington estuary and Bideford in the distance. Slightly more then I'd like to pay for a pint but it is a tourist place and possibly higher retas. So we'll worth the ONE.

We stopped at The Quay for breakfast whilst cycling along the Tarka Trail and it was cooked to perfection, delicious, lovely pub, very friendly staff, we will definitely be back again on our next visit and bike ride.

Lobster bisque was amazing , cosy pub , lovely atmosphere, good ales and wine wonderful fish choice very friendly staff , a great find well worth a visit.

We stooped off here for lunch last week and were greeted by a very pleasant and helpful owner and staff. My Hake and my wife's Shellfood stew were cooked to perfection, with an excellent presentation along with a perfect view from the window table across the Torridge. Highly recommended.

Food ok. But when they get the order wrong it’s all the customers fault. If that fails then the response is “that’s how it’s done in Devon” - I think not.

Popped in as a last minute hope of some food as booked place closed at the last minute due to staff shortages. Had the most beautiful roast pork followed by crumble and custard. Great food, great service and atmosphere all at a good price.

Fantastic food! Friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend booking as it was pretty busy on a Saturday evening. My partner and myself both had fish which was super fresh and beautifully cooked. Reasonably priced both for food and drinks. Lovely view.

We stayed at a cottage that said if we spent money over the bar we could park on their car park after saying that we would have gone in and ordered drinks and food,excellent food but after a couple of days I wanted to book a table for 2 and 3 old English sheep dogs which we had been in on two occasions and spent money and tips with 3 well behaved dogs but got the impression we were not welcome so went to wayfairers inn and excellent so your loss because we spend on hols and we’re so welcomed.

Always a good spot to stop for a pint whilst cycling. Not as busy this end of Instow
