Not what it used to be when the local Devon man ran the place. Now its just a sub par chipshop. Gutted.

Went there at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday. No one in but us. Only negative thing to say. Friendly efficient staff; excellent, freshly cooked food (not kept warm and on display).

Possibly the best fish and chips I have had for ages! The batter was golden, the portions were plentiful, and the curry sauce was excellent. We ordered through Uber Eats and it arrived exactly when it said. I am very impressed and will be using again!

went to Barnstable on Wednesday 4th September and then into Scoffs at midday. Wife and I had fish and chips and it was super, great staff and service. Best we have ever had and will go again

Amazing customer service. Others should take note. When they say they are dog friendly they mean it. Brough our fluffy friend a fresh bowl of water and a sausage so he didn't feel left out Food was outstanding as well. Would give 10 stars for service if I could.

Not for us. Food was not that good service was extremely slow with very little attention even though we were the only table eating in. Didn't feel too clean either.

Literally just eaten here fantastic food chips were lovely soft on the inside and crispy on the outside l had a fishcake chips and mushy peas best I have ever eaten from a chip shop/ restaurant. Also dog friendly. The staff were very friendly and attentive great curry sauce. Husbands fish was delicious. I Definitely would recomend this place.

What a lovely find. On holiday with 4 boys all getting a bit wound up. Staff brought furniture outside to accommodate us all. Was a bit apprehensive as they were so nice and that's just not a thing where we live. But no it was amazing, all children from ages 11 to 1 enjoyed. They waited on us, repeatedly checked in. Was so lovely. Was so good that we went and found a cashpoint after as we really wanted to give a tip. This is how all restaurants should be.

I stopped here on my coastal walk.. Very hungry... craving a pie... They delivered beautifully and were super friendly, even offering if i wanted to charge my phone without me even asking! So friendly and kind. I ended up having a few chips and they were so so good.. The best chips I've had for a long time! Thank you!

Called into scoff's today for fish and chips. First impressions, great atmosphere lovely decor. Clean and tidy. Greeted by friendly helpful staff. Food was delicious and well priced. They are dog friendly and even gave our dog a sausage to feast on. Will definitely be returning if ever in Barnstaple again. Thanks Paul.

We had a sit in meal. Staff were lovely and food was delicious. The fish batter was nice and crispy and chips were well cooked.

Fantastic fish and chips! The lady had the cod and I had the haddock. Both ordered smalls, but are actually very large portions. We needed to do some work online and they were very accommodating. Very clean restrooms and restaurant. The staff and owner lady were incredibly kind.

What a cute fish and chips place. The fish was FRESHY FRESH, the batter was light and crisp, and the chips were unusual yet delish! Thanks for the perfect British Fish and Chips experience. PS. Best hot chocolate I've ever had.

Awful ! Never again 😒 not a patch on previous owners .. Chips horrible like greasy warm ups fish not nice saturated in fat That me done there Used to be nice Overpriced and awful .. Feel ill when I think about it Left most of it! Yuk.

Ate here while in Barnstaple for a few days holiday.We were warmly welcomed by the lady running it.The Cod and chips were cooked to order and we're delicious.Very friendly people who deserve to make a success.

We found Scoff's by chance in March 2024. Clean & well presented F&C shop, very friendly staff. We had Cod (small) and Haddock. Both were large. Chips were exceptional and tasty. Fish had a thin coating of batter on them. Really tasty meals. Best F&C we have had in a while. Next time we visit Barnstable we will visit again.

To put it in a top line, *Simply Sensational* From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly and welcoming face. We both ordered the fish and chips (one small and one regular) while we waited. The lady behind the counter chatted to us and was very friendly. The meal was very reasonably priced, and for the quality a steal. We took the food away with us and ate it back in our airbnb (only about 15 mins away). The food was still hot. The fish is very fresh and flavoursome and flakes with ease. It comes in a soft and tasty batter that isn't too heavy but packs a great flavour. The chips. Well, wow. They are coated in a sort of crispy batter themselves that honestly, i couldn't stop devouring them. (Even after i was filled up) The only negative (if it is one) is its a shame it not more local to me [but again my waistline couldn't cope]

Best chips ever!! On this grey day, lunch at Scoffs brightened our day. The staff are really welcoming as soon as you step inside. The food was cooked freshly and tasted so good, crispy coated chips and piping hot. We all left full and looking forward to our next visit.

Pleased to find somewhere to eat mid afternoon. I had pulled chicken my wife haddock and chips. The food was lovely, if a slight delay in getting it, but the staff were very good and friendly. No reason not to recommend or revisit

Went here the other day and it’s well worth the visit. The staff were friendly and helpful the food was great especially the chips. If your visiting do come in here, it is great!!!!

Very happy after enjoying some delicious fish & chips at Scoffs. Everything was piping hot and the food was cooked to perfection. Probably the best chips I've ever had, and plenty of them even with the regular portions that we ordered. The hosts were were very welcoming and attentive too. A perfect plate of food for a cold Friday night! 😋

Food was inedible. Threw it straight in the bin, lovely staff and service but the food seems like it's days old. Chips full of grease, real shame and waste of money!

We were recommended to come here for the battered chips - having never had them before. They were so right! Wonderfully crisp outside and fluffly on the inside. Beautiful piece of cod too. Doggies allowed, which makes a huge difference to us. Very efficient and friendly service. Plus to top it all off, doggie was given a free sausage. Just great - thoroughly recommended.

Enjoyed my fish and chips good value for money

Had lunch today with family and enjoyed every last bite, was struggling at the end to finish the chicken wings but got there in the end, battered sausage and chips were on point as usual and the gravy is so tasty, chilli cheese bite are a must too, can not wait to go again 😋

Sorry to say a bit disappointed. Still huge portions but the prices have gone up and it also appears to have changed hands. It's OK, but not as good as it was.

Had fish & chips plus a drink. We were served in the seating area outside as it was a nice day. They also have indoor seating. It took a bit longer than expected for the food to arrive but it was worth the wait. Our family all agreed that they served the best chips we have ever tasted and having visited many chips shops in our time, including Rick Steins, that it high praise indeed. The battered cod was also very nice. The price was also good. Around £9.99 for a regular fish & chips. They offer a 10% discount for take away meals. It would have been nice if they had offered a small fish & chip special like our local chippie as I do not have a large appetite, but I must confess the chips were that good I ate more than I normally do at lunch time! I will pop in again for fish & chips next time I go to Barnstable. The staff were also very friendly.

Absolute rip off. Charged us for food we didn't get. About a 20 minute wait with nobody in there. Overpriced. Said things came with chips when they didn't. We asked for a receipt which we didn't get. Overcharged us so supposedly gave us 'extra chips'. Rubbish chips. I want my money back!! Won't be coming here again, don't go there

Great chips and service. Have no idea what a Yorkshire Chip is but it definitely isn't this..... These are black country chips and have been in virtually every chipshop in the Midlands since i was a kid 45+years.... Maybe the owner thought a Yorkshire chip sounded better than a Black Country Chip... 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ As black Country chips go these are pretty good and i would recommend them. And to the owner if you're from Yorkshire then i would be happily proved wrong ( though i doubt you can do that 😉 )

Very friendly staff, food was absolutely piping when it came out and very helpful with anything we needed. Only thing is… the food here is SUPER GREASY which makes it taste so good but just a heads up if you aren’t into that!

Scoff's fish and chip shop/ restaurant. In the centre of Barnstaple town,is where you will find probably some of the best food anywhere. Always served up with a free cup of Yorkshire tea. I'd say that's hard to beat.

If you are on a free from diet such as Vegan or wheat free then you may not be dietary safe so check first and all food outlets should supply the demand for free from foods 💯%

Called in for for food at 6pm sat evening, waste of time not enough food to feed a ferret, wasn't putting any more in , and website says open till 8 pm ..........

Gorgeous chips and brilliant service

As someone from the black country orange chips are so hard to find! On holiday here and to say my face light up with excitement was a understatement. Definitely would recommend.

Loved the chips the food is always hot and tasty,such good service.

Scoffs chips are the best, and they people are so lovely in there too. I never go anywhere else, and when my family come to visit from different corners of the UK, they always remember having scoffs and it has become an event taking them there each time they visit.

Never really understand why this place doesn't seem as busy as it should. Staff are great. Food is great. Portion sizes are good value; kids meals definitely. We enjoyed it... just felt a little bleak 🤷🏻‍♂️

Only place around here that does battered chips but they are to die for and that is coming from someone who doesn't really like chips!
