Mother Meldrums Tea Gardens and Restaurant in North Devon

We walked all the way here as it says it’s open but it was very much closed. Very disappointing and two very upset children!

Looks like it's closed and up for sale in October 2024. I was really wanted a cream tea.

Amazing setting. Friendly helpful staff. Sadly, only take away on the day we visited, but coffee was good.

Very quaint little cafe at the Valley of Rocks, with absolutely gorgeous scenery. They sell an incredible selection of homemade pies, we shared a piece of the blackcurrant and a piece a piece of the cherry, and they were both delicious. Sadly the day we went had gale force winds and we had to hide in our car to eat our pie, but well worth it nonetheless.

Was expecting more for the price. Had a deli ham sandwich and was just a ham sandwich with tiny bit of salad and coleslaw on the side. Overpriced for 8.95

We have visited this tearoom many times, sadly, the tea was served in paper cups not China and no plates available for the cakes. staff were not as attentive as on previous visits.

Outside seating only and order at counter with table service. Really good view of surrounding hills. When we visited, a For Sale sign was displayed outside the entrance.

Incredibly delicious fruit pies and cream tea 😋

This is in the Valley of the rocks and is by a car park to the entrance of the Valley. It is outdoor seating in a lovely garden with numerous bird feeders. My family had hot drinks there. They have a large menu and the most amazing fruit pies. Dog friendly as well

Five stars for food, quality and flavour. Unfortunately only three stars for service.

A lovely welcome surprise around the corner after the cliff walk. Friendly staff (despite how busy they were). Beautiful chilled garden area. Everyone enjoyed their food, vegan options would be very welcome.

Only OK and expensive for what it is. Only outside seating so prepare for a damp seat unless really sunny. Good selection of tasty fruit pies but very expensive. Coffee a bit weak for us.

Wonderful cafe, beautiful location, highly recommended.

Lovely outside seating and really scrumptious food. A variety of fruit pies (served with cream) and also the usual flapjacks, creamy cakes. You can also get a selection of main meals, all wonderfully presented and delicious. And all very reasonably priced. Well worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Really, really lovely spot to stop for a well deserved ice cream after a long day walking. Staff were lovely and the other foods served looked very good.

A delicious slice of cherry pie with a view to match!

Cafe ambience was nice, and the staff are very friendly. I did not like the coffee which we ordered but all the bakery looks fresh and delicious. Our regular was coffee 3.5 which I felt too costly

Beautiful setting, but rather overpriced - and a minimum £10 card spend is pretty scandalous. Wouldn't return in a hurry, but nice enough if you're flush and carrying cash!

A beautiful dog-friendly cafe with outdoor seating. The food is homemade with a standard menu and some specials. I would highly recommend visiting here if you're in the area

Sadley shut for winter despite saying open on Google

This is a lovely Garden centre with extras, a very nice tea room Hot delicious food available. A large car park with disabled ♿ bay's available, and there is also a hair salon.

A great little small cafe with outdoor seating only in an delightful enclosed garden. Quite a large menu, but on sunny days things run out quickly. Charming staff and great food. The Apple and Cherry pies are homemade and the portions are generous. No toilets on site but a public toilet is available nearby. Food is Good value for money and very fresh. A good tip is to take cash just in case the card machine isn’t working.

A wonderful and welcome break at the end of the walk from Lynton, before climbing Castle Rock. Thank you Jacqui and Polly for such a warm welcome!

Very overpriced & unhygienic! I paid £22 for 2 very average/dry bread sandwiches & 2 soft drinks. Worst thing- one lady in kitchen sneezed in to her hands, wiped her mouth with hands & carried on..yuk! 2 days later, I woke with sore throat & both my husband & I have horrible coughs. I don't think that's a coincidence - appalling.

Lovely place tucked away in fabulous surrounding. Food great from the humble beans on toast to lasagne. Recommend a visit

It was good. Didn't get 5 stars as they were having building work and when we were there the builders were quite loud

Food was lovely, lovely homemade fruit pies and cakes stunning setting but only outside seating so like us if you had walked to Valley of the Rocks and there was a downpour of rain there is only outside seating so food is spoilt. Such a shame and my only criticism of this unique cafe especially as I am certain years ago there was some inside seating.

Best place around for miles for food and drink!! Customer service is always brilliant! Keep up the good work and see you next year

Lovely place, the weather wasn't great today but the people inside were warm and friendly and attentive and the scones were amazing, definitely recommend

Extremely overpriced, the crab sandwich was perhaps the worst sandwich we have ever eaten and the fish finger sandwich was also very dry. The sandwiches come with salad and coleslaw, however for £10 I would expect more than packet sliced bread, supermarket coleslaw and salad from a bag. The cakes and pies all looked good however if you are wanting a lunch I would advise bringing your own.

A lovely little stop. Stunning location with amazing scenery. Food and service were excellent. Prices were reasonable and a very large choice of snacks and meals available. Highly recommended. Would definitely use again if in the area.

Can't go to Somerset without a visit to Valley of the Rocks and Mother Meldrums for their scones! Delicious. Welcome addition of sheltered tables this year against the wind and rain. Very cosy.

Visited the tea room in July 23. Well the tea room was closed so only outside seating available. It was a windy day so not ideal. Coffee was lovely, cakes were awful and expensive. No toilet to use. So overall not impressed. It could be so lovely in such a beautiful place.

Beautiful spot for something to eat or drink. Quite a walk up the road if you need facilities, I’d have given 5* if the facilities were on site. With that being said it is well worth a visit.

Fantastic food. Suitable for hungry kids or fussy adults. And the pies are Simply the Best. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit.

Outstanding location in valley of rocks. Tea garden is really lovely and chilled out, nicely planted with lots of birds in the trees. Good drinks and nice selection of cakes. Recommended to check Facebook page for opening days.

10/10, amazing garden and the food is delicious, quite pricey but worth it - recommended the quiches / tarts and the chips

Excellent range of homemade food in a scenic setting.

Had high hopes. Beautiful location, sunny day, been for a nice walk along the coastal path. However, this place is very disappointing and massively overpriced. £47 for two cream teas, two sandwiches, two coffees and two J2Os. If the food had actually been good I perhaps wouldn't have minded but instead dry, almost stale bread for the sandwiches, strange spongy scones, and average coffee. I don't really like complaining as generally it makes you feel worse but I did and, to their credit, I was reimbursed the £15 for the sarnies. The pies and cakes looked good so it should be pretty easy to have some fresh bread and buy in some better scones. Then it would be ok, but still expensive.

Lovely little gem to find in a beautiful location. Was a little surprised at the cost of 4 hot drinks and plastic wrapped cakes and the fact the toilets are a 3 minute walk up a hill. As you can imagine with young children this can sometimes pose as a problem. Other than that the garden is lovely and the cake was good

We went for a few hot chocolates after a walk along the coastal path. Even though they were wrapping up for the day and had already cleaned their machines, the staff still went out of their way to help us. The hot chocolates were amazing as well :)

It's well-placed for a bit of lunch after a walk, but food is okay and very pricey for what it is. Will be making our own sandwiches next time. Seating area in the garden is lovely though.

Great place to stop after exploring the many walks around the area

The only cafe I've ever come across that doesn't allow you to swap a tea with a coffee with a cream tea. Had to pay extra for the coffee. £23 for two cream teas with coffee is very steep just like the cliffs behind. Should of had the teas as well as the lady server told me the tea was free with the cream teas. The scones were very crumbley also, needed a fork to eat them with. Surroundings were very pleasant. But if your eating here watch what your paying for specially if your a group or family. The pie slices weren't very well presented either. If I'm in the area again I shall not be using this place.

Put on nig cycle. 88 miles in total. And that stop off was at 45 miles in. Slice of cherry pie. Clotted cream. Coffee. Outstanding. Lovely lil garden too.and what a setting.. I do like it there. Not often I give 5 stars.. but they did give me a free slice of pie last year on my birthday.. gert lush. Not a bad view when u step outside either

Sadly let down by the young lady who served at counter, warmed up cherry pie and added cream, neither which were asked if wanted or asked for and then got charged extra £1.35! Also short response to request about toilet, which they don't have!

This place was very good ,brilliant fish finger ,sandwich with tarter sauce ,perfectly fried chips ,lovely scones jam first and lovely staff. I looking forward to my next visits a real gem this cafe.

Friendly staff, and home made puddings to die for. Very fair prices, and stunning views from the tree shaded garden's. A wonderful way to finish of a walk, or just relaxing in the gardens with a cup of tea with your friends.

We had just walked the coast path to The Valley of Rocks. This little gem was like an oasis in the desert. It has a beautiful garden with wooden picnic benches, nestled under old trees, brimming with a myriad of wild birds. We had some lovely ice creams & drinks but the beautiful home-made fruit pies, tarts & cakes were hard to resist. Eventually I relented & bought a slice of lemon, lime & orange cake to take away. They also serve sandwiches, pasties, savoury pies & quiches. The staff were very welcoming & friendly. As so many walkers go there with their dogs, there are lots of water bowls in the gardens for their thirsty, four-legged friends. If you drive, rather than just walk, to the Rocks there is a car park right next to the cafe.

Food quality is pretty ok. But quite expensive considering portions.

Superb cream tea and ice cream here. Perfect stop off mid- or end of hike!

Must try strawberry and rhubarb crumble..... amazing taste and a large helping! Would recommend!

Lovely cream tea, generous portions. You get two large fluffy scones, loads of clotted cream, jam and a large cardboard insulated cup of tea. Outdoor seating only, so be aware of that. Closed if raining. Toilets up the hill on the right. Worth a visit!

What an awful shame this lovely tea room used to be the best for cakes soups and lovely lunches. Had a terrible luxury fish finger sandwich which was so hard and as far from luxury as could be made possible. Over £9 on a polystyrene plate no salad or the lovely coleslaw they used to do. After 20+ years not sure id go back even though they said supply of foodstuff was hard to get hold of.

Foods terrible. Expensive. Cheese ploughmans, 3 blocks of cheese, piece of sliced bread, I've had more salad on a burger.

Very well kept garden to dine in with a whole plethora of song birds. A lovely relaxing oksce to break after walking the rocks. Car park next door isn't very expensive either so a short stop. Prices are a little on the steep side but about normal for a tourist hotspot in cornwall. But as others have said NO TEA WITH THE CREAM TEA! What a shame as they are really lovely scones otherwise but I don't understand the madness of not receiving a cup of tea with your cream tea! And everything on disposable plates which I can understand at the moment due to Covid.

Very pleasant gardens. The sun was shining and it was nice to sit in the shade of the trees. No pot of tea which was disappointing. Plates, cups and cutlery disposable with no sign of any attempt to separate and recycle.

This place was a fantastic find, tranquil and wonderful Pie! The ladies who work there are very friendly and we will be back for more delicious pie!

Nice setting, but at £42 for four fish finger sandwiches £7.95 each (no salad, crisps or anything presented with it - for the price, we thought it would) and four bottles of Sprite we left feeling a bit ripped off!

Great little cafe in the Valley of Rocks. Had a great selection of food and also ice -cream. Healthy portions of cake as a treat after a walk along the coastal path. Very impressed that we were able to be served late on a Sunday. Very helpful staff members and beautiful garden to sit in. Dog friendly outside.
