Hate leaving bad reviews but this pub is something else… Great location and lovely building/beer garden. Service was terrible - staff were super rude and charged us for napkins for bringing our own birthday cake to have in the beer garden. For context, there were 20 of us all buying drinks and also buying cakes, sat outside, what’s the problem?) On top of that, the Guinness was absolutely awful and served in a dirty glass..! Really hope this was a one off experience but I was pretty shocked to be honest!

The location is really good. There was a large group of us, about 14, so we expected that they might not have space but the sofa seating area was completely free and other seats scattered round the pub were free. Two ladies I locked eyes with told me there was definitely no space inside but if I wanted to check out the beer garden I could. Whilst I appreciate that staff have more awareness of why a certain seating area is available or not, I would’ve appreciated it more if one of them at least attempted to accommodate us inside. No smiles, no greetings. I work in customer service and have worked in hospitality waiting tables, and even though a request seems unusual, I’m eager to make the client feel like I’m at least trying to accommodate them. So we were mainly let down by the negative attitude. Again, I’d like to stress that even though we were a large group and last minute, which I know is sometimes impossible to accommodate, what really stands out in a good place is how the staff respond. We didn’t feel welcome. Also, a worker was working with no health and safety gear fixing tables right beside on of our tables who had to zip down the pod curtain due to sparks and dust reaching them. Edit as response to owner: A typical reply from my boss to negative reviews goes along the lines of “we’re really sorry this was your experience today. We’d like to make it up to you, but in the meantime would you be able to email us to talk about this?” I was afraid my review would be misunderstood. I did recognise we would be a difficult party to accommodate due to size, my issue was with the general unwelcoming demeanour of the staff. This is something you have control over, and can make a world of difference when someone’s demand can’t be met ☺️ reviews are not a personal attack on you as a business owner, they exist to help you grow and improve as a host. Enjoy your weekend 😘

We booked a table in advance which was saved for us, when we arrived there was a friendly welcome and menus provided - so much choice (on top of the specials board and Sunday lunch options) and all reasonably priced. Food arrived hot and delicious, couldn't have asked for more. A brilliant place for food - we sat inside but there were loads of outdoor tables too!

I came here for a full English breakfast and it was really nice. In fact i struggled to eat it all, and i usually always manage the extra large breakfast in most places. Which shows that you get value for money. The last time i actually came In here for a drink was probably 8-10 years ago, so I can't really leave a review based on that.

Been going to the pub with my sister when she visits for the past year. Went for the same hunters chicken today and was very disappointed. Cheap watery chicken. Fatty cheap bacon. They did not put on the barbeque sauce, rock hard backed potato which was sent back and replaced with rock hard backed potato. Will never eat there again.

After being passed the wrong pint (in the correct branded glass) by the barmaid in our group of 4, I returned it back to the bar. The other barman was already aware this had happened and instead of apologising for the confusion, he informed me that I'd taken the wrong drink. This was a genuine error, no individual at fault, however the barman sadly felt it necessary to direct frustration and blame towards the customer. Whilst they did pour the correct drink, the way the barman handled the situation was hostile, unnecessary and out of character of friendly PH customer service. I tried all the other pubs in New Mills and on the basis of our experience I'd say there are other better options in the area. RESPONSE to Owner: There isn't really anything you can say or excuse afterwards when treating customers in a hostile manner. Perhaps just think how it might be handled differently in the future.

MORE AT Google

We had high expectations of the food after reading past reviews on Google, but my wife and I were both disappointed. I was looking forward to the corn beef hash, red cabbage and crusty roll, as I haven't had this dish in years, and my mum used to serve it with red cabbage. This was served, but no mention that they had substituted the red cabbage with beetroot. I went to the bar to query this, and was told they had run out of red cabbage. Whilst this was disappointing, it would have been nice if they had mentioned this and apologised. The second disappointment was that there was only a couple of pieces of potato in my hash. Lots of corned beef and carrots. There definitely should have been more potatoes, and I check this by googling images of this dish and recipes. The roll was very pale, not baked long enough to become the described crusty. My wife has the sea bass, but she told me it was smoked and didn't taste like sea bass, although there was plenty of it. She thought it tasted more like kippers! Maybe there was another unannounced substation and this wasn't the fish we ordered. She enjoyed the pesto mash, but the broccoli and peas were cold already when served. On a positive note, the pub is dog friendly and the lady who served our food gave them a treat. The real ale I had was served in good condition. The pub was busy on the Saturday afternoon when we visited, which is good to see. From our experience I cannot recommend this pub, especially for dining. Update after response: My wife gave me a bit of her fish and it definitely tasted smoked . Yes it was corned beef hash which is meant to have corned beef, but from my experience and images and recipes seen from a Google search show that this dish normally has a lot more potatoes. Maybe someone got my share, because I only got a couple of pieces, so obviously in your recipe. I'm glad you agree I should has been told the red cabbage had run out rather than just substituting it. There was no comment about the cold vegetables or under baked roll which wasn't crispy.

Literally just been in this place after a hectic morning. Looking for a little food and relax with a beer. Gentleman behind the bar was rude to begin with. We had a young child with us after waiting an hour for a food order. Then as we went to complain the chap who I deem to possible be the Manager was even ruder than the bartender. How to make sure paying customers NEVER return to a venue In reply to your reply, I have been in the customer service industry myself for 40 years, however your reply just shows your failure to understand of any of the above, just confirms the negative feedback. I shall indeed feel free never to return thank you for confirming that. I'm sorry an 82 year old man stepping two steps into your bar area frightened your staff that much, but you're right we ordered 4 toasties and a portion of fries and an hour later came to ask what was happening to the high handed reply that they hadn't been started yet! But judging by other reviews over the last few months we're not the only disappointed ones and anyone who raises an issue becomes the problem it seems

This place needs some serious TLC, dirty outside eating area, waitress tripped up on a cigarette packet on the floor, there were Dimps everywhere. The full English breakfast was very tasty until I found a long black hair under my eggs. Waitress said sorry without making eye contact. Most establishments would have been horrified. A quick sorry, just didn't cut it. My wife stopped eating. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon, which is really disappointing as I'd waited so long to try this place out. I recommend hair nets or a least, hair tied back. Someone also needs to clean the areas where they expect you to eat.

Lovely lunches & a really good menu. Lovely roast lunch. Very good friendly staff. We were in a party of 10 & all meals came out together. Parking is close by but not very suitable for any disabled people as it's a fairly steep short walk from the car park unless you can park on the roadside but the times are a bit limited. Very popular place.

Only been here twice but both times the food is delicious! Always go for the specials board. The staff are attentive and will definitely be back compliments to the chef!

We stopped off here whilst on a 9 mile walk. Really welcoming pub with attentive staff. Whilst we didn't eat, the quality of food looked good from what we saw. I did feel the outside pub sign looked rather tired, as well as the beer garden we sat in. Inside however, this was not the case. We had read that 'local real ale' was available on other reviews. Unfortunately, when visiting on 19th April 2025 , this disappointingly did not appear to be the case today.

Do Not Waste Your Time or Money. I don't know who gave this restaurant 4 stars but clearly they are overrated. The food was tasteless. The only thing that tasted good was the rice. I ordered two gyro platters with lamb and beef and all we got was unseasoned lamb. These clowns only gave us one pita bread. Then gave us two of the tiniest pieces of baklava ever served in history. My mother said the grape leaves were horrible. I should have turn around when I saw the inside of the restaurant. It's un-kept and in need of remodeling. If you want great tasting Greek food, wait until Greek-fest. This place can beat it. If you see this place, roll right on by. You'll will be happier eating some place else. Patooey!

Been wanting to go for ages and wasn't disappointed, absolutely top quality food, tried most things on the menu, plenty of flavour. The place itself is smart and the staff were friendly, service time was great considering they were busy as well, all round great experience. Can't wait to go back.
