Hare & Hounds in High Peak

Our first visit today Sunday October 27th 2024, arrived 12 noon,ordered 2 Sunday dinners,lamb on both,it quickly arrived and was served pleasantly by the waitress,the meal was hot,a large meal with a good selection of vegetables and tasted delicious,would highly recommend this establishment and hopefully return soon to try other items from the menu. Well done.

Really welcoming pub with great food. Shared a fish and chips which they split in the kitchen, each served fully battered and with its own garnish. Deliciously crispy battery, succulent fish, perfect chunky chips and a perfect serve of guiness. We'll be back.

I usually have a lovely meal but I ordered a steak medium to well done and my son ordered a steak medium to rare and both were well done so I didn't enjoy the £24 steak

Best way to spend a wet Sunday with a lovely roast dinner, fresh pies and home made onion rings. Generous portions and great food.

Lovely gluten free food for coeliacs. Can recommend grilled halloumi with sweet chilli sauce, GF battered fish with fries & mushy peas with GF fruit crumble & custard.

After very good reports we were very dissapointing. Hunters chicken and cheese and onion pie very dry. Waited over half an hour for food when we were the only ones there. Paid £74 which included a children's portion. Won't be returning!

Love it. Either after a walk or just in the area. Always good relaxed and lovely views

Quite a long wait for meal to come seeing as there weren't many in at that point one of my party saw staff eating MC Donald's at bar which we found amusing be better to eat out of sight maybe fries very hard as if they'd been warmed up we did get a free drink because of this

I recently visited this amazing restaurant near the Peak District with a beautiful view. The location is perfect and quiet, making it an ideal spot to relax after a long hike. There's plenty of car parking, it’s dog friendly. The food is fantastic. I highly recommend trying the hamburgers and the local beer. You'll love it!

Eleven out of ten, Amazing meal catering for 10 of us, seven people, three dogs. The dogs loved the sausages too! Great views of the sunset and a lovely atmosphere. Il be back soon.

We went in for the first time in ages and to say we were disappointed would be a massive understatement!! We asked for a menu and there was dried up food all over the back so we decided not to order. The place was so unclean with sticky tables and the toilets was filthy, water left in the basin - the total lack of attention to detail is alarming The staff didn’t look like they could be bothered. This is such a shame because we used to love going there. This pub has so much potential it’s just a shame whoever has taken over has let the standards slip so much !! 🥲

Excellent pies, but no decent salads (nicoise, waldorf) will go again.

A pub with real potential, let down by a strange, almost obligatory dog culture that sees pets freely on the furnishings and the tables where food is served. Additionally, patrons vape openly and particularly in winter when doors and windows are closed, this is not really ideal nor considerate. Would not eat here again and would be reluctant to return even for drinks given the dog situation.

A really lovely village pub with absolutely fantastic food we have visited twice while staying in the area while our son is going through hospital treatment can't recommend this place more very accomadating for families will definitely be coming back.

What a great find, lovely English pub with good pub grub. Enough car parking, a bit off the beaten track but worth the trek up the hill from Glossop.

Not awful but nothing was fresh. Every item was a bit subpar. Cheese pie was exploded and undercooked. Mac and cheese bites tasted fried from frozen, rock solid, my mouth still hurts. Beans were cold and chips had been sat under a heat lamp too long. Wouldn't recommend to a friend but would recommend to an enemy.

I am Brazilian and this pub is exactly what we were looking for when we came to England. It's totally laid-back and cozy. I felt embraced by the atmosphere. Something worth mentioning for sure is the service and proficiency of the staff. The food is MAGNIFICENT, and the decor is GREAT. 5/5 stars.

Went for Sunday roast dinner, drinks and pudding with my dad. The food, service and price were all excellent!

Hare and hounds Simmondley wonderful atmosphere and food goes beyond pub grub.. l will say restaurant quality and beyond.. also beautiful countryside around it.

What a lovely old pub in a fabulous spot, the view from the terrace is fantastic. We visited for lunch and our food was excellent, the fish and chips were delicious, the best I've ever had, home cooked chips and lovely crispy batter. The service was great and the pub was comfortable and welcoming. Very enjoyable thank you.

Ate there 18/10/23. Fillet steak was excellent, cheese & onion pie to die for and excellent service from the blonde ladt whose name I didn't get. I'll be back soon. Neville

Great pub great staff food is excellent

Food was absolutely brilliant. Staff needed to be slightly more attentive to get a perfect score, but they were pleasant and fairly efficient. Ginger Beer soft drinks could be better. Would recommend the Rib eye steak. We will be going back!

What a fantastic meal the steak just melted in your mouth, it was all brilliant home cooked chips no frozen chips it was absolutely brilliant, well done chef and the kitchen team, proper onion rings not out of a freezer as a former chef I could not of done any better. Well done team will be coming back. 😊😊😊

Great pub with amazing food and great service

Called in when driving passed. Clean pub, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Ordered 3 Beef dinners, they arrived quickly but unfortunately didn’t taste good. The veg was cold and the carrots were watery, the beef was fatty and the roast potatoes were rock hard! It tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave and therefore we couldn’t eat the majority of the meal. I wouldn’t recommend the beef dinner.

All excellent apart from mince pie had peas in it would go again

What a find! I went with my daughter recently, absolutely lovely food & the visit was made even better by Sam, the lady employee who's friendliness & manner was a pleasant breath of fresh air. Earmarked for a return visit for certain.

Used to live in the area and this was the vast pub around back in the 80s, 90s an 2000s. Today it's just a boring old man pub, and they don't seem to do food on a Sunday evening when you come by as a walker. When asked, they blamed "staff shortage". I can't believe that in a cost of living crisis there can be a shortage of staff wanting a pay packet. H&H is now always disappointing.

Stopped for some lunch whilst on holiday, friendly service with delicious food and drinks. Fabulous views. Thank you very much x

I pass this pub on a daily basis but have never visited until today. The place is lovely. A very old building with a nice atmosphere. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place. Food is very reasonably priced.

Slightly disappointed tbh, been a year ago and it was so much better. Table dirty , not set already. Hardly anyone in so no excuse. Food ok but the steak pie had clearly been reheated. Everywhere looked a little tired . Probably Won't bother again . Shame as it's a fantastic setting

Very disappointed We ordered braised steak and ale pie which was portion heated in oven making it very dry Pastry was hard all in all it was not good The ladies toilets were dirty and toilet seat was hanging off Would I return? No I don't think so

We have visited The Hare and Hounds twice in the past week. Once on Sunday for lunch and on Tuesday night for quiz night. Both times we were made to feel very welcome. Food was good. Staff were friendly and there was a nice buzz about the place. The only slight downside is the toilet that is cold and needs decorating. Our dog Milo loved it too.

Called in here on a whim. Excellent country pub. A warm friendly welcome. Good choice of drinks. The food was excellent. Starters and mains were top class. My Mrs’ pudding was incredible so I’m told. The only loss of star was my brownie had been slightly overdone. But nevertheless; excellent value for money. We will be returning.

Very lovely little pub with great views. We visited here for the lunch menu during the week, good service (a little slow but there did only seem to be one person doing front of house). Food was tasty and a very decently sized portion. Would absolutely come back here again and try an evening meal.

Is a nice little country pub/restaurant. My only thing is that when it is busy, it feels very small , so could probably use some kind of extension. Otherwise great food and staff

Well just to say it's been along time since I've had real ale as good as this in this hidden gem of a pub.ive been visiting this pub over the last few months and on my first visit I entered to find real ales which I will always try first as they are my favourite but obviously only if they are kept well,I first tried the Timothy Taylor landlord and wow I'm glad I did it was absolutely superb tasted great and you know when you've finished your pint and you have cream all the way down your glass that it's kept well,I've kept drinking this ale on my visits here upto last night as with it being the festive season I came upon an ale they have called brew dolph so I thought I'd chance my arm and give it a go wow it was as good as the Taylor in fine fettle so I would just like to say well done Dan you are looking after your ales really well and also to say your food is really good as well you have a really good pub here well run with great staff can't wait for my next visit over the Xmas period. Merry Xmas to you all 🎄

Sunday dinner was burnt to a crisp, rock hard potatoes, dry veg, with almost raw inedible beef. Staff were bored and borderline rude. It's a shame as the location, facilities, and ambiance gives the place real potential.

Stumbled upon this place on a Monday evening whilst looking for somewhere to eat. Friendly staff. Menu was varied and and there seemed to be a good choice of vegan/vegetarian meals. I had the cheese and onion pie, my wife had the cottage pie and my daughter had the Caesar salad. Good size portions all round and tasty 👍🏻 All in all a good experience. If it was local to us we would definitely be returning.

I've been coming here since I was a wee nipper. In the past two weeks, I've been twice and both times I've been well impressed with the food on offer. One week I had sesame beef with rice and the next I had chicken with mash and peppercorn gravy. Both totally yum!

friendly staff . great service . but poor food . Thai curry . was unappealing white colour instead of Green . white chick asked for coconut rice . paid extra . unfortunaly . was served . basic . long grain . curry was salty . & overpowering . ginger .& lemongrass . wasn't impressed . Heard great reviews . also Roast dinner . felt like a reheat . microwave . from the afternoon . sadly . we came At 7pm . Salt & pepper Chicken wings were tasty . we had a starter .

Had a Lamb Sunday Roast... OMG it was superb, 100% coming back here over & over... Stunning, could of easily eaten it again...

Just had a very disappointing Sunday lunch. The lamb was tasty but everything else was unappetising. A dollop of mash, 3 small roasties and half a bag of brocolli/cauliflower mix. Not even a carrot to brighten up the plate. It used to serve a lovely roast, and for the price tag I expected much better ☹

When for Monday night tea, super friendly staff, the food was just what we needed, steak pie & chips,(the chips were heaven) 🤤 Gluten free fish (in lovely fresh batter) & chips, very tasty & no problems with regards gluten free, even checked to see if had intolerance or coeliac disease. Very happy with the food & drinks, super village pub, definitely be returning 😊

Food is brilliant with good service and fantastic views from their decking. Seem to be passionate about whisky as well which is not something you see everywhere.

Fantastic food, friendly staff and very reasonably priced. Good sized car park and outdoor seating area available. The steak was lovely and their salt and pepper chips and regular chips are immense.

Came in today and had a Cajun chicken burger. Was delicious. The 3 for 15 starters are a good idea. Salt and pepper wings were huge and meaty. Definitely be back 😊

Nothing really to commend this pub. My local which I have frequented in the past. Having not patronised this pub for some time I decided to try for Sunday lunch. I found the beef rather tough and the vegetables somewhat undercooked. Interior rather tired and not particularly comfortable. Would not consider returning. All in all I was disappointed as it is the closest pub to me and would be very convenient if it was of a higher standard.

Visited today with family. Waited a little longer than expected for food (over 30 mins and it wasn’t busy, hence minus 1 star) but I must say the lady behind the bar was fab at her job. Clearing tables, serving drinks, bringing out food. You could not fault the service. She’s a credit to the Hare and Hounds :)

Went for a dinner after it's been recommended to us by a friend. Had a sunday roast which was awful. The beef tasted horrible that I can't describe. Everything else was fine. Such a shame as it is a very nice pub with a very nice atmosphere.

Very pleasant traditional pub, serving a good range of beers/drinks and food. Dropped in at lunch time for a pint and had a very well prepared sandwich with all the trimmings served with the best chips I've had in a while. Excellent.

Came here for a Sunday lunch after a good day hiking, everything was cooked to perfection. Veg had a bit of crunch still without being raw, the meat was soft and melt in your mouth with beautiful home made Yorkshire puds. If your in the area I would definitely recommend a visit.

This was our first time here the service was excellent we were made to feel really at home. As for the food it was outstanding best meal ever. The team here deserve every success. We will definitely be back soon

Brilliant food! Not a local in the area.so just relied on the google to find where to eat! And no regrets here. Best chips i have ever eaten. Staff was friendly, good service and amazing food what else can you ask for!! Oh actually toilets a bit dated needs refurbishment. But Clean.

Small, friendly pub on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Ideal as a pit-stop for refreshments after a long, or short walk, run or cycle.

Great pub friendly service, great food and perfect pint

Party of 20 for a 21st. Dan and his team couldn't of made us feel anymore welcome. They accommodated us at every turn. The food was superb, all came out at the same time with no-one left waiting. We had an amazing night and can't thank everyone enough for the time and effort they put in. Brilliant place ☺️

Amazing views from the terrace, delicious food cooked to perfection. Family and pet friendly. Unpretentious 18th century pub restaurant, nicely spaced tables all meticulously cleaned after customers' use before next people were seated. Ideal for walkers, families meals, friends and group gatherings . Good selection of ales and wines.
