Superb cakes - homemade, delicious, always a great range (vegan, scones, cakes, brownies, tray bakes), good portion size. There’s a good menu for breakfast and lunch. You go up to order and you can wait for drinks or they are delivered to your table. There’s a log fire in the main room.

Great breakfast spoiled by penny pinching staff! Ordered pot of tea with two full English breakfasts, huge pot of tea arrived enough for at least four cups, all great so far! Upon pouring unfortunately tea too weak so went to counter to request “one extra teabag” only to be told we had to pay for it!!! Asked to speak with manager who basically apologised but said they have been told to “charge for everything” by the Trust to keep the business going. Really, if that’s the case think someone responsible at the Trust needs to go on a customer service course as well as finance! £28 for breakfast and can’t provide an extra teabag FOC really!! Well we won’t be back so that’s a great piece of financial common sense all for the sake of a teabag costing I guess couple of pence at wholesale costs, great decision! One final thought, if as we were told “we get lots of people asking for an additional teabag” and we can’t keep giving them away for free, doesn’t that suggest they need to put another in large pot as just maybe it’s too WEAK!! Real shame but won’t be coming back with friends, family or anyone else!

Lovely place. A hidden gem we found by accident when trying to find a place for lunch whilst traveling. Very kind people, lovely choice in their menu. Good value for money. Nextdoor is a small shed with gifts and pottery. And a glasshouse outside for more pots and plants. Very English. Loved it.

I can't really comment on the quality of the food as I only had a piece of carrot cake which was nice , but what I did see come out of the kitchen looked nice . My gripe was with the extremely slow service , after queuing up for 10 mins they took the small order of 2 cups of tea and 1 Alice of carrot cake , I was then asked to sit down and it would be brought over to me , it took nearly 20 minutes to get the order, in fact I was so fed up waiting that I went up to the counter and collected it myself . The staff who were all very young didn't seem to be able to do anything unless instructed by a staff member from behind the counter, I'm sure they did there best , but I'm sorry to have to wait this long for a pot of tea and one slice of cake is excessive, thankfully the cafe was not that busy, I can only imagine the wait if it was full .

Disappointed with our visit to The Potting Shed, this must be an anomaly as I’ve heard nothing but good things from friends however we waited an hour and 20 minutes for food (after be warned of a 45 min wait). The food then came out cold therefore needed to be sent back for a further 10 minutes. I accept that this was a busy lunch time however people that entered after us were served their food first. The food was just average and pricey. Such a shame as it is a lovely spot which I’d have enjoyed visiting again.

Gent who served us was very polite, the tea was beautiful, very fresh, scones gorgeous, with not only cakes but a beautiful selection of quiche, brucshetta slices and sandwiches with salad garnish. Lovely cafe, it was reasonably busy but didn’t feel overcrowded or loud which was a refreshing change, but not a particularly extensive menu for a fussy eater like myself. I didn’t choose to go here, so maybe the menu is adequate for some. I had a chicken bacon mayo sandwich which was ok, but the top layer of bread felt like it had been left open or near a heat lamp, the bottom piece of bread perfectly fine, the sandwich was ok, but requested no salad, got salad. Not sure why such simple requests are so difficult but I’m used to it. Chips were nice. I also had a salted caramel latte, which was also ok. I acknowledge I’m fussy, so maybe this place is ok for some, the other members of my group didn’t voice any issues but then neither did I.

Have just got back from my daughter's baby shower and I have to just give this wonderful place the best review I can. From start to finish I cannot fault it, from my initial email , to booking , to the actual day itself I have received nothing but the best service. We had the room exclusively and were allowed in earlier to decorate as we wanted, 27 guests in total. Food and service absolutely spot on we had the buffet but we could of had an afternoon tea but chose the buffet, delicious and plenty of it, staff were fab, friendly and efficient, can't fault our experience and my daughter had lovely time ,. Staff friendly and efficient. Food good and good portions too. A little on the pricy side but worth it. With a rustic comfortable ambience ,within a garden centre with a wonderfull selection of plants, shrubs, ect. Unfortunately on 30th Jan after laying flowers on my parents resting place and local walk .I Was VERY,VERY DISAPOINTED when we went to have a coffee and cake at the potting shed, only to be stoped at the door at 3.30 and told they were closed. Totaly understand they close at 4pm. Even though their opening times say 9 - 5 on the door .The gentleman (I use the word gentleman lightly ) informed us aggressively that they had stoped serving . My family and I have used the potting shed on many occasions in the past . But has left me not wanting to visit again. Thankyou for making a very sad day even worse

The cafe had a pleasant atmosphere and was nicely decorated inside. I ordered the BLT sandwich which was tasty and the coffee was nice. Our table had some crumbs on it as we sat down so it could have been cleaned a little more thoroughly. What irritated me was the gentleman (manager?) who kept coming over to take any empty plates and cups away as soon as one of us had finished eating/drinking. It wasn't busy so I'm presuming the table wasnt needed, so why not wait until we were all finished rather than leaning over people who were still eating. We felt a little rushed which was a shame. The staff who were served were not the most pleasant either.

We used the potting shed for my friends baby shower. I can’t fault the venue and service. Ellen and her team were very attentive but then left us to it once the guests arrived as we had the private room (conservatory). The buffet was lovely and not your average “beige buffet” you usually get at places. All home made food and plentiful. When paying for a buffet per head, you sometimes end up with the food running out quite quickly but this wasn’t the case at the potting shed there was more than enough food! They set the room up for us and added pretty table clothes and all the chairs matched :) All in all a great room to host a small event. Thank you Ellen and your team!

Booked a table for Sunday lunch for my Mums 80th birthday. This was a chore to start with as they now only accept table booking for 6 people or more. Having mentioned my Mums birthday and she said this WAS her favourite place and 2 or our party were disabled, they made an exceptional and took the booking. I wish I hadn’t bothered now. We arrived to be told that the Sunday lunch menu was not on today ( it was Sunday and lunchtime) and only the ‘daily’ menu of jacket potatoes and Sandwiches was available, plus 2 specials that included a chicken roast dinner. I had to leave my mobile number when I booked -is it so hard to send a text to explain that Sunday lunch is off and we could have made other arrangements, we booked on a SUNDAY for LUNCH, I told them it was my mum’s Birthday. Why wasn’t this considered by customer service . 3 of our party ordered the chicken and all 3 said it was the worst meal they have had in a long time, the food was cold and the vegetables hard and virtually inedible. No puddings were available and no gluten free cake options for my mum. The place was empty ( 2 baby showers in progress) besides a few people outside having coffee. Our last visit here, earlier in the year, the place was heaving and they were turning people away as the tables were all booked and full. Now it’s just sad and half empty, I counted 6 empty tables with no reservations on them. It was just us and another table, who we heard complaining about the soup… Even my Mum said she won’t be going ever again and she was really upset that her birthday lunch was so terrible. I have no complaints about the staff that served us, just the whole experience was disappointing. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING…YOU LOST 4 CUSTOMERS TODAY. We drove to Little Heath Nurseries ( 2 miles away) for an excellent section of gluten free and vegan cakes, and coffee and hot chocolate. That helped cheer everyone up.

Spent a very relaxing and enjoyable afternoon with a friend at The Potting Shed today and was absolutely amazed by the quality of the afternoon tea. We had one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian afternoon tea, served on separate cake stands. These included sandwiches, enormous scones with jam and clotted cream and a variety of cakes so we were astounded when the waitress said she would also be bringing the quiche and bruschetta!! These were accompanied by crisps. Such a generous afternoon tea and wonderful value at £19.95. This also included tea or coffee and we were also given refills. We couldn't finish everything and without needing to ask, we were given containers to bring food home. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. Very helpful and friendly staff. This isn't the first time I have enjoyed afternoon tea at The Potting Shed - the standard has always been high - but today it had the wow factor! This is a lovely venue and the staff were very friendly and polite. It was clear that they were very busy on our arrival for breakfast and we were told food times would be longer than expected. Food is nice but it would be ideal to have your own choice of items such as cooked tomato/mushrooms/egg - fried/scrambled. I also agree with the previous reviewer that prices are a little high for what you get and the breakfast now has less items on than previously. I think it is always nice to include a cup of tea/coffee with a typical English breakfast.

Has this place changed hands? I've had nice breakfasts at the Potting Shed in the past, but today the beans were cold, I didn't get a hash brown and the coffee was incredibly weak. The music was loud too -- I don't mind U2, but Bono yelling down my ear at breakfast isn't particularly relaxing, and now I've got Bonnie Tyler stuck in my head! We tried moving to a quieter table but the speakers are everywhere. They've also changed the arrangement so you can now only book for parties of more than six people; the ability to book was one of the reasons we'd go there, because you'd be guaranteed a table. Not sure I'll go back.

I’ve been to this place on countless occasions over the years and it’s lovely and the food is always very nice. But price wise I can’t help feeling they’re getting greedy. Today I had the veggie breakfast - 2 veg sausages, 1 piece of toast, 1/2 tomato ( which I left as did my friend, if you need to lose something, maybe this is the way to go!) , a ramekin of beans and a few chopped fried mushrooms teamed with a small hash brown £9. I selected the poached egg expecting it was included as it always has been previously and is everywhere else! (I breakfast out a lot) only to find when I’d got home that I’d been charged an extra 1.20 for the privilege. That’s taking the mick, so a small veggie breakfast therefore 10.20 plus the cost of the tea on top. Put the egg back in, as it should be. If you need to cut costs cut the sausage down from 2 to 1 or lose the tomato. Frankly I’m disappointed in you. The same breakfast down the road at Willowbrooks £6.99! I’ll go there in the future. I don’t mind paying for good food but I won’t be ripped off.

I have visited this lovely little cafe numerous times as I am very local. I have not had an issue before today but I'm afraid to say, due to the awful customer service we recieved at lunch time today - from the head watiress, who was extremely rude. I will not be returning again. Visited for a little birthday lunch for my friend - just the two of us as 12.00 today. My friend is vegetarian and simply asked if instead of the cheese, ham and pickle sandwich, please could she just have the cheese and pickle as she is vegetarian. She was brought a chicken, cheese and pickle sandwich. So, we sent it back and asked again for just the cheese and pickle please. It wasn't an issue as these things happen, but then after a 25 minute wait (I had eaten my food by now) she was brought a vegan sandwich consisting of vegan cheese, ghurkin, beetroot and humous. This time we just sent it back and just asked for a refund as we had just wanted cheese and pickle sandwich and had asked for it twice but both times the order was wrong. Again, not an issue - we understand these things can happen, especially when busy, the waitress had been lovely but maybe there was a language barrier and that had led to the confusion. However, we were met with the rudest person at the til - she was the lady in charge as she was called upon to deal with us at the til. She argued with us infront of the whole cafe, and did not want to refund us despite the simplicity of our initial request of a cheese and pickle sandwich. I have never encountered such a rude person, her customer service skills were terrible. The other waitresses were clearly scared of her also. I will be cancelling our usual Saturday get together at this cafe. I was very unhappy with how we were treated by the lady in charge today. Such ashame as the other staff were lovely. I think the owners need to invest in some training around customer service skills for the management here.

Edit Aug'23: visited for breakfast and feeling the need to drop a star due to the fact the service has declined here. Food was still tasty but the service was very slow (on a quiet sunday morning where the cafe was nearly empty) and they got both of our breakfast orders wrong. Beans were nearly cold and toast was merely warm bread. We'll give them another chance in case its just an off day but disappointing when its usually really good here. --------------- Have been here twice now. Once for a large group afternoon tea and once for breakfast. Both times were fab with lovely food and very reasonably priced. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were friendly and polite. Value for money and great food. We will definitely be back, especially for breakfast!!

The Potting Shed is located in a good area for travel as it's close to the M5 and M42. No booking is required for small groups. A good place to browse the garden centre too. I was meeting my friends for a pre-birthday lunch. Unfortunately...

Absolutely fabulous food at very cheap prices. Proper homemade food, including homemade chips! Eaten here a couple of times and both times have been amazing

We visit The Dry Spy quite frequently for in my opinion, the best Sunday lunch locally. Last night, along with friends we visited on a Wednesday evening to try the fixed price midweek special menu. Absolutely brilliant, plenty of choice, great to have option of 1 = £12, 2 = £15 or 3 =£18 priced courses, all good size portions. The steak on mains is fabulous, as was the fish & chips. Staff so welcoming & attentive.

Well what can I say! Finally got the chance to try this lovely cafe. Went with a friend for breakfast, the menu was great, lots to choose from, we had the Courtyard breakfast which was lovely, this consisted of 1 sausage, 1 bacon, hash brown, mushrooms, tomato’s, beans and toast and I’ve got to say it was top quality food and made fresh. Fantastic little cafe. I will be returning to try the afternoon tea. Highly recommended! 👍

This place has been closed for a few years now due to the owner sadly passing away unexpectedly. She was a lovely lady and in the short time that she owned the place, she transformed it.

I was here at brunch time today and a young chap, I didn’t quite catch his name but I think it was digbee, he served me my brunch. And he was quite rude at first as he just slammed my drinks on the table and walked off, didn’t say a word or didn’t smile. I let that go and decided to carry on with my day; but then when he came to collect my drinks and proceeded to swear under his breath and say “this fat b****” . I found this extremely enraging and unkind. As a result of this young disrespectful chap, I won’t be approaching this cafe any time again! Disgraceful!
