The Plough Inn Restaurant in Stratford-on-Avon

My wife and I went for a drive, with the idea of visiting Bourton on the water. However after being stuck in traffic, we gave up. We carried on driving for a while and saw a sign for the Plough Inn. We decided to give it a go. Once we drove into the little village, we didn't know what to expect. We parked next to two small tractors running outside the pub. On entering the pub, we were made to feel welcome by a few of the locals. The bar staff were currently serving guests outside, one of the locals jokingly told us that it was 'help yourself' Saturday. 😝 Whilst waiting for the staff, we were charmed by the rustic looks inside, very classic pub looks. There was also an open fire with large piece of meat turning , the smell was incredible. Once we had scanned through the menu, we both had decided on the Braised beef cheek, layered upon mash, with seasonal veg and a beef dripping sauce. When the meals came out, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised. The way the food was presented and tasted was far beyond what we had expected from this little pub. It was delightful and something we would definitely return for. We had driven from Bristol and we are already planning when to return next. Hopefully stay in an air b&b nearby, so we can enjoy an evening with the locals. Would definitely recommend and I can't thank the Pub/Staff and locals enough for our experience, thank you! Great little pub, food very good and catered for one of our party who has Vegan diet. Chef was friendly and his presentation was first class. Good beers and wine available. Highly recommend.

Visited with a group of friends on a Saturday afternoon in November. The food was incredible! The service was just as good and we had such a warm welcome. Very much would visit again.

Warm and friendly local pub, don’t be put off as they are all super welcoming and friendly. The pub is rustic and modern with a roaring log fire but super fast wifi - perfect. Food was incredible - the burgers with added extras I can absolutely recommend. Food was hot and home made, really really enjoyable. If you are in the area, definitely pop in and experience this little gem.

Dropped in for Sunday Roast. While busy they managed to accommodate us at a table for 2. A few menu items had run out but that was explained and understandable. Food was great but I would recommend booking in advance.

Very enjoyable Sunday roast and fish and chips (!) thank you. Booked at short notice, we enjoyed our meal in the warm and welcoming pub. A lovely open fire and of course, dog-friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Nice little pub with good food on a chilly damp day

We had been here for Sunday lunch with friends a while ago and eaten brilliantly. Today, there were new people who took over about three weeks ago. The food was ok but... It is basic pub grub, served with a lovely smile and helpful owners. Compared with the Sunday fare, some way to go.

My partner and I popped in to this quaint and charming place on our way down south. The Canadian owner was very welcoming and friendly. We had two burgers which were tasted fantastic and the service was super quick. Would highly recommend giving The Plough Inn a visit and we hope to return at some point in the future.

After reading 10 very low rating reviews from people who never visited the pub, I've decided not only to leave this review, but to take my mum back there tomorrow, Tuesday 22nd August 2023. No special occasion, I just like to spend my money to nice people.

Lovely pub, absolutely loving the atmosphere the place gives off, food is delicious and the pints are nice and cold. Owner is friendly and welcoming.

Each time we stay locally we go for food, it's a simple menu cooked well and served up hot and tasty. The outdoor table area is great on a summer evening

Taken over by a Canadian couple about 2 years ago, it it a place to visit when in the area. The staff very pleasant & the meal was quite quick coming to the table. The food was good &, for a country pub, had quite a varied menu. As it is the only pub in the village, it can't be missed.

Lovely little pub, friendly staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Throughly enjoyed the burgers.

The poor fella was rushed off his feet and yet still provided a lovely friendly service with a smile and very quick. The quality of the food and drink is knockout and it's probably one of the best pies I've had! (Pictured is the hunters chicken & steak and ale pie)

WELL WORTH A VISIT! What an absolute gem of an English village pub. We wanted a Sunday lunch and were staying nearby and booked our table the night before. Graham, the Canadian landlord is so friendly and the food he served was TO DIE FOR. We both ordered the sirloin beef roast. Generous portions of beautiful pink beef were served up with wonderfully fluffy roast potatoes, copious amounts of tasty gravy, a homemade Yorkshire and a lovely selection of vegetables - beautifully cooked. Absolutely one of THE best roasts I have ever had TBH. Superb value meal coupled with standout, efficient friendly service. You truly could not fault the experience. AN EXQUISITE MEAL! We were so glad to find The Ploughman open, really needed refreshments, Made to feel welcome straight away, great local beer & excellent food. My BLT sandwich was a triple decker with loads of bacon, delicious bread and a great portion of chips. My wife opted for a starter of Brie and red current jelly, she said it was delicious. Lovely, really old pub with lots of seating inside & out. Shame this hostelry is so far away from our usual travels as we would love to return.

Recently discovered this little gem. What a fantastic pub this place is. The food is absolutely outstanding and amazing value for money. We’ve had the pleasure of having a traditional roast dinner on Father’s Day and enjoyed it so much that we returned this afternoon and had traditional pub grub. The landlord is a real gentleman and very accommodating for people without a booking. Cannot fault anything about this establishment. Myself and my family will be returning here for many years to come. Absolutely superb and would highly recommend to anyone.

We had Sunday lunch with our sister and brother in law. The menu was restricted to roasts, but the meal was very good. The beef was pink and good quality, generous portion. The roasties, Yorkshire and vegetables all fresh and well cooked. The landlord was very friendly and helpful, would certainly recommend

Went for a father's day Sunday lunch. Food was amazing and such great portions. The staff were fantastic. Puddings were fantastic and the price just absolutely crazy as in excellent value for money. 10 from me all day long.

What a lovely village pub. Good beer and excellent hospitality from Graham the landlord, one of the most obliging landlords you'll ever meet. Although not local we have had two Sunday lunches which you couldn't fault. Hope the pub survives.

Very friendly landlord went out of his way to squeeze 11 of us in for Sunday lunch. All roast options (beef, chicken, pork & nut roast), plus burgers, were consumed with relish! Good size portions, veggies cooked to perfection. Will definitely return next time we’re up this way.

I have been to this pub once or twice however recently found out that they promote illegal trail hunting. I don't want to support a business that associates itself with illegal practices, I feel its important potential customers know who and what they will be paying towards should they choose to visit. I'm happy to say I won't be going back again

Fantastic pub, we were warmly welcomed. Great selection of beers and the food was excellent, well presented , tasty and piping hot. Would highly recommend and we will be back to try out the rest of the menu!

Had to leave one star to leave a review, wanted people to know that this place condones and welcomes the sickening act of fox hunting so decent people should stay well away and hopefully the trade will suffer as a consequence

Lovely food in a small, homely, but dimly lit pub. Proprietor was run off his feet doing both front and back of house, but the food was great value!

Four of enjoyed a tasty lunch here. We ate in a cosy room with a very welcome log fire. The generous portions of fish in beer batter with chunky chips and the cheeseburgers were hot and tasty. We didn't have room for any puddings this time... We wish Graham and Lisa the very best of luck in their UK adventure.

We enjoyed our lunch here very much but it needs to look more inviting. The landlord seemed to be on his own doing everything which took while. He was, however, very welcoming.

A wonderful hidden gem, would highly recommend! The food was delicious. I had the steak and ale pie and my partner the chicken burger, we shared the Brie bites to start. All of it was delicious! Graham, the landlord is a diamond. Such a lovely and accommodating guy. We arrived with our two dogs (on leads) and were promptly set up by the fire having given our drinks orders as we walked in. Couldn’t have been looked after better. Lovely little place in the middle of the countryside. Simple, but delicious pub food. A wonderful landlord. A great crowd and finally, dog friendly. What more could you ask for :)

We are staying in the area for New Years and found this pub online and it didn’t disappoint. We had a sandwich, chips and battered prawns. Both meals were delicious and huge portions. Service was quick and friendly without being overbearing. We also had 2 pints of Carlsberg which tasted delicious too. Would definitely come back.

We visited on the off chance there would be a table last Wednesday and were very warmly welcomed and shown straight to our table. The menu was interesting and my mum opted for her go to favourite ‘ham, egg and chips’. The menu stated 3 eggs but mum has a small appetite and so asked for just one egg. I chose the special ‘Duck in a sweet and sour sauce’. There was a little wait but our dishes arrived piping hot and obviously freshly prepared- both were delicious 🤤 We didn’t have room for a dessert but they sounded yummy. When the bill arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find that the ham eggs and chips meal had been discounted for just one egg (without us having to ask). A very enjoyable meal and especially liked how welcoming the landlord was - despite being very busy. We would wholeheartedly recommend!

A lovely, cozy pub with few tables, we felt very lucky to get in as everything we had was wonderful and delicious. We had the terrine and poutine, and then the pheasant and fish and chips. The food was so good we then got a dessert too. We had a local beer from a north Cotswold brewery that was lovely too and the meal together was very reasonably priced.
