The Cameron Grill in Stratford-on-Avon

The food was lovely, the environment was excruciating!! We felt like we were in a sauna…. So uncomfortable, and ruined the experience.

Lovely experience, delicious meal. Eilidh and the rest of the team delivered friendly, impeccable service. The scallops were especially well done. Wine/whiskey pairings were on point.

We were visiting with friends who are Sportsclub Members, to celebrate a Birthday. From the moment we stepped out our taxi we were very well looked after and loved the interior design and atmosphere. We had a few drinks in the bar and then a meal in the Grill restaurant. Lovely bottle of rosé and good Guiness. Our meal we had starters of beetroot salad, pea panacota and smoked trout. Mains of ribeye, fillet steak and bass. Pudding Tart Tatin and tiramisu. I was on the pea panacota which was delicious and fresh then the fillet steak with Bernese sauce, cooked to perfection. My only tiny criticism was the tiramisu had no coffee, sponge or sherry, more like a white chocolate dessert with ice cream in it! All very tasty and an atmosphere that meant we had a special evening. We would definitely go again and maybe even stay! Good value for the quality of venue, staff and food.

Would thoroughly recommend the Cameron Grill, the food and service was first class. Was originally a little reserved due to some historic reviews by friends, but it’s clear the Grill has come a long way since it reopened last year. All the meat was melt in the mouth with some fabulous flavours. Special mention to Isleigh-Mae for excellent service and arranging surprise petits fours for us on our first return to Cameron House since our wedding day - was a lovely touch and we will definitely be back in the future.

The food was really nice. We had Cullen Skink, scallops and steak and chips all tasty and nicely cooked. This is the bad bit - the prices are eye watering. So the starters are £12.50 each and the Cullen Skink expect around 5-6 small spoon fulls! A lot of the menu items have a supplement, lobster, beef wellington for example. The steak and chips came with no veg if you wanted veg it was extra. Main course £50! Chuck in a glass of white (£21.50) and red (£16.50) 250ml, a bottle of water at £4.75 and a service charge you are looking at a hefty bill! Service was quick and efficient without being personable.

I have given my comments directly to the restaurant and the hotel when I visited over two weeks ago but am yet to receive a response. I therefore feel it is important to let others visiting know that I found this restaurant deficient in dealing with customers with complex dietary requirements. I booked by phone and gave details of my dietary restrictions - allergies and dairy intolerance. I was assured this would be no problem. When we dined here we discovered my allergies had not been annotated correctly, I didn’t fit into the ‘allergy matrix’ and discussion with the chef only happened after I suggested it. This is not the approach I would expect from a restaurant of this standard. I was then brought a starter which contained milk, despite previous assurances I would be served dairy free. I was also told by another member of staff there was ‘no bread on the premises suitable for me’ which turned out not to be the case. This was a special dinner which was spoiled by lots of negotiations about what I could and couldn’t eat. I am also disappointed that we were charged the full cost of our bill including service charge with no compensation offered. As I say above I have contacted the restaurant manager and hotel directly but have had no response so I don’t feel that my concerns are being taken seriously and that other diners with dietary requirements (especially those which don’t fix in the new allergy matrix tables) may be offered similar service. I would like to add that during my breakfasts at this restaurant in the mornings they managed my dietary requirements very well. It was just the evening meal that was where the issues were.

I booked Cameron House for 2 nights dinner at The Grill both nights and also breakfast to celebrate my 80th birthday.The room had a view of the loch but heating was minimum coming on late evening.We were both frozen the rest of the time.The Grill was not comfortable either regarding heating with a gale coming through the window from the loch.We changed seats the second night.Table had no cloth with plastic sticky coating.Cruet set was empty…..not 5 star.Food was ok but you could get the standard local to where you live.Breakfast was a disaster:Buffet arrived 9ish food was a few sausages,cold scrambled eggs,hash browns all lying in oil.Fresh fruit consisted of two or three strawberries/apricots and Greek yogurt again not my idea of 5 star.We visited the tavern bar,but unless you were interested in a pub quiz there was little atmosphere.All in all a terrible couple of days .Don’t go.

The whole experience of arriving was excellent. Valet parking and an efficient matre-dee. We accepted a table facing the kitchen which was a mistake. Plenty of mice tables near the window. We had oysters to start with which were a wee bit disappointing as the dressing killed the taste rather than enhancing it. For mains two of us shared a chateau briand which was superb. Cooked as requested. Chose a Lebanese wine which was ok but very expensive. Great meal but far to expensive. Certainly at £120 per head we expected absolute top class but they missed it. Being near the kitchen meant people passing us all the time. Go and enjoy yourself. Expect to pay way more than you thought. Insist on a window table.

From an attentive reception to being served delicious and quality food from a menu full of choice to the first class service from our waiter Brendan, our dinning experience was of the highest quality. And not forgetting the ambient surroundings and if you have a window table, the scenic views across Loch Lomond.

We enjoyed a Friday evening meal here. The Cameron Grill has a cosy and welcoming medium sized dining area. Nice atmosphere from the start, with the right level of lighting and background noise for us. Professional and courteous service throughout the meal, from the restaurant manger, server, and sommelier. The menu is a small table d'hote selection which I like, but some might find too limiting, it's easy to check online ahead of visit. We had scallops and trout for starters, and both opted for the rib eye steak for main. The food was excellent in our opinion, steaks cooked exactly as requested. The meal we enjoyed (with a couple of drinks) was certainly at the pricier end of what we are used to, but we understood this from the menu before we booked, and we felt it was appropriate for the setting, the service, and the quality of the food.

Excellent grill and beyond excellent service. Ruby looked after us and she was a star. The whole team have smiley faces. I had the rib eye with peppercorn sauce. Delivered with perfection. My wife had the lamb rump which smelled delicious but was clearly too good to share even a mouthful. We’ll be back next year. If you’re visiting locally or staying in the hotel or a lodge, this is a must.

The restaurant is well located and the food is of a high standard. Unfortunately the service, which was initially good, deteriorated to such an extent that we had to waylay passing random employees to obtain a dessert menu and then the bill. Desserts then arrived after a further long delay. Another wait was endured until the bill arrived. Predictably this was wrong & then had to be amended. All this unnecessary aggravation rather took the shine off what started off as a pleasant evening.

The service from our waitress Ruby the sommelier (sorry I forgot her name, female with dark hair and glasses) was impeccable. The sommelier in particular was very knowledgeable and recommend an excellent Lanzerac Chardonnay based on my tastes. The skink starter was excellent and fillet steak beautifull. The thrice cooked chips where to hard and over seasoned however, if I was to return I would choose a different side. Nice relaxed atmosphere and Ruby was lovely, very welcoming and friendly.

Visited here for my daughters 21, she is vegan as I explained when I booked. Arrived and they had no vegan choices prepared but they could adapt. Wine list on the table but no cocktail, bar menu. Asked for more bread and then had to request more butter. My husband and I both had steak cooked different ways and they mixed them up and couldn't identify them. Asked for horseradish and they didn't have any and it took them nearly 15 minutes to get mustard! Petit fours arrived for the birthday girl and none of them were vegan. Poor, very poor for the extremely high price.

We always thoroughly enjoy our week here and were delighted when it reopened after the tragic fire. We absolutely love the restaurant and it was our friends first time,and I just knew they would love it too. The staff are always very attentive. Service exceptional and we had no complaints at all. There is a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. We all enjoyed every course,especially the lamb,steak and fish. The vegetables all cooked to perfection. There’s also a brilliant wine menu,catering for all.

The grill is a excellent in every aspect. Service is 5* - food is 5*- kids menu is really good and well priced. The various smoked salmon and sirloin steak is our favourite. Always made to feel welcomed and special. Nothing is a problem for the staff here, very attentive indeed. We love the layout and decor of the restaurant aswell, well spaced not too big, not too small, just perfect.

We enjoyed a nice meal in pleasant dining room. Paid extra for a fillet steak, excellent taste but not so tender as I would expect for this part of the world. My partner thought the room dingy, needing more light. It's not a night club. Excellent service.

Having dined here several times I would say the restaurant is nothing special and very expensive for the quality. The steaks are good, but not great. I recently had the venison and the accompaniments were terrible. A raw pear, skin on, cut up on the plate? Whoever thought that was a good idea shouldn't be working in a restaurant that sells 2 courses for £49 (though many of the dishes carry additional supplements).

The restaurant is a fantastic Grill that will deliver everything from a beef Wellington to a Pork chop the setting is first class and service is to match with noting to much trouble.

This was our first visit to the Cameron Grill despite having been at the hotel numerous times! Afternoon this experience, I doubt it will be our last! Every course was absolutely delicious, starting with the pre starter haggis Bon Bon! I had scallops then ribeye steak (the chips are to die for ) whilst my hubby had the trio of salmon and then the cote de beouf. We both thoroughly enjoyed both our courses (and what we tasted of each other’s!) after the large portions, we decided to share the pear parfait which was a good choice as it was light and refreshing. It is a bit more expensive than going to the Boathouse or Claret Jug but it is a higher standard of food and beautiful presentation. Staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly. Great level of customer service.

The whole evening was just a mix of disappointments. The tables are squeezed in for a start. We had to ask for the wine list, ordered a lovely bottle of Malbec which was opened for us but we were left to pour etc. No bread rolls offered ( it seemed a lottery if your table for offered or not) the food was alright at best, I orders the prawn and crab cocktail, no question they were frozen shrimp and still looking for the crab! Steak was ok. In all the bill was £160, service and food should be outstanding for that. Save your money and enjoy a lovely dinner down at the Boat house

Everyone at the Grill was so accommodating to my husbands wheat allergy! They were very knowledgeable on what he could and couldn't have and offered many choices for him! The menu had a wide variety of options for us both to choose from, the breakfast was incredible with a huge buffet, the atmosphere in the evening was very romantic and we loved eating here daily during our stay!

We were staying at Cameron House and decided to eat in. The restaurant was very busy but we managed to book the last table. The service was first class and from start to finish it was a very pleasurable experience. We could not fault any of the dishes we had and appreciated the local game and produce. I cannot recommend highly enough the steak here, which was fabulous.

Hotel offers guests the chance to dine here at a small supplement. Well worth it. Food beautifully prepared and well prsented.

On balance, based on price versus value, and overall dining experience, combined with quality of ingredients (steak) it has to be no more than a 3. Our expectations were set high based on the £49 for 2 courses or £55 for three other menu items came with a supplement, that would have made it £60+ per head. I agree with a couple of the other comments that there was too long gap between first & second courses. This was also true on the desserts, one of party ordered the soufflé (we knew it was a 10min wait) but the other dessert (crepes) must have been waiting for the soufflés as it arrived cold (we sent them back). We all had the non price supplement steaks, which were cooked well, (not sure about the sauces), but the beef itself didn’t seem to be of the quality needed in a restaurant like this. I can’t say anything was particularly too wrong but if you are paying top whack, it’s the details that matter. Service was the saving grace and rescued the experience for us.

Sat down at 9.00pm and had to ask the waitress about our main course at 10.30pm. When we asked our meal arrived almost immediately suggesting that it had been ready and sitting out for some time. The medium rare fillet steak was pink in the middle but was dry. The butternut squash ravioli was very poor. The ravioli was dry and hard and inedible. The waitress was informed and we were asked if we would like a new main course. As it was now 10.40pm my wife declined. We had paid for the meal as part of an Itison deal for a stay with the Cameron House Hotel. I would not have paid for this meal in a restaurant but no compensation was offered by the hotel.

Booked a table for 2 expecting a quiet Monday night. No chance! The Restaurant was rammed with Tables far to close together. The set menu idea is expensive to say the least for what’s on offer. Our Starters came very quickly, suggesting that they had been pre prepared & were basically bland. My wife had the Prawn & Crab Cocktail & I had the Mackerel. We then waited approx 35 minutes for the mains, a Fillet steak that was no more than OK while my Wife had an overdone Sirlion.The Restaurant was far too hot that added to the overall disappointing evening. The only real plus point would be the service that was fine.Can’t say I’d recommend it after a bland meal.

The Very Good and Excellent reviews completely confound me. We had three breakfast buffets at the Cameron Grill and they were all the same - fatty, too much oil, bland, dry rolls and dreadful coffee. And we stayed at seven B and B's and one hotel on our 16 day driving trip of the Highlands. This buffet easily is a the worst. Quantity over quality. And the space is vast and impersonal and not cozy and inviting.

We received a voucher to have Sunday lunch in the grill,the service was brilliant and food great well worth the trip from Falkirk,would recommend lunch.
