We had this place recommended, so thought wed give it a go. Was ok as in not great but not horrendous. This may have been down to the Euros been on, felt very much like a drinkers/sports bar.

Very rude owner. The webpage says food finishes at 3pm, but it is actually way sooner. We ordered drinks and had food on the garden. The owner came to tell us in the most unpolite and rude way that it was ridiculous and to stop immediately, which we did and apologise immediately. My friend with a health issue had to rush home to finish his food. We spoke with the owner to explain and apologise, we told him about the health issue and his words were I don't care, and even if you spend £1000 in drinks you can't do it. We won't go back and won't recommended it to anyone, specifically if they have any health issue.

Myself and my husband came for lunch and a drink at the Plough. I order a ploughman's, which was terrible, 2 pieces of stale bread, lump of butter, half an apple and cheese, and a few dried up lettuce leaves. It cost £9.95. It was the worst meal I have ever eaten in a pub. My husband ordered an Ham and piccalilli sandwich, again the bread was stale, and the ham really tough. We paid £27 for this, and two drinks. Would not recommend this pub for food at all, and definitely will never be returning!

We attended this pub for a family meal on Wednesday evening, the place was heaving and I thought this could be a good sign. I think the place was busy because they had aunt sally, a local pub game playing at home. We ordered our food from the table, it did all come out together which was very good, I had ordered the burger as my grandson had done. This in the menu was listed as a cheese and bacon burger, well, there was a little bit of bacon in with a very dried out burger but not a sign of any cheese. I must say both my grandson and I were very disappointed as was my wife that had tough scampi, the best on the plates was the chips and onion rings.

Well. What can I say? We found the pub by luck more than judgement, which led us to this rather unassuming hostelry one very cold December night. The welcome was warm and friendly. The food, well. Blimmin lush! Very attentive staff Drinks were reasonably priced and the boys said the ales were well kept and great. This would be our local if we lived nearby (jealous of people who do, and I note that the house opposite is currently for sale…)

Eight friends were visiting the nearby Pendon Museum and needed a lunch break. Liam and his mother were super helpful. A private room a good selection of beers (including Butcombe) and a comprehensive pub lunch menu. Those who had the sausages and mash were still talking about them as we drove home to Somerset! The Fishpie was full of fish including smoked haddock, with plenty of cheese and a giant prawn for topping. The burger was pronounced excellent too. The Abingdon brewery Loose Cannon was remarked upon too. Large Sauvignon Blanc went down well too. We did not give more than a couple of hours notice for our visit but received a warm welcome. Food and drink were exceptional. A great pub.

Unfortunately the waiter was extremely rude, I hope this wasn't the landlord that others talk about in these reviews otherwise they're in big trouble, it certainly sounds like it. On top of that the food took over an hour to arrive, it wasn't that busy either. It's quite simple that people won't pay their hard earned money to be insulted with zero provocation. I can only imagine they are struggling from the period of closure and are taking out their stress on the customers.I've also seen the landlord writing very offensively to bad reviews on here, all I can say is that if he wishes to do the same here, it won't be read, perhaps he should work on fixing his attitude if the business is to survive the year. Instead of pathetic attempts to intimidate people with genuine feedback on his behaviour.

My partner took my to The Plough as a Sunday treat for out Anniversary this weekend. It was perfect. We was given a nice comfy table to ourselves in the corner near a lovely fireplace. Table service, pints brought to us immediately. Couldn't decide what looked best on the roast, so Kim the manager allowed me to have a bit of everything. It was incredible (especially the lamb). My partner is vegetarian, again Kim suggested the veggie bundle and my gf has said it was one of the nicest things she's ever had for a Sunday lunch. They even knocked a drink each off the bill when they heard it was out anniversary. Overall, stunning food, gorgeous pub, but its the incredible staff there that make it perfect! With a second lockdown on the horizon, we wanted to ensure we got a lunch in with my parents. We are always looking for halfway point pubs around Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds for our meet ups, this one came up on a quick search and so very glad we gave it a go. I called to advise my parents are a little vulnerable (Covid wise) and could we sit outside? Not the norm to reserve but they would. We arrived to a beautiful (covered) table amidst flowers. The weather was on the turn and we were offered an empty private room inside - we took them up on the offer for a coffee and they checked on us, making sure the heating/music was right. For lunch we had a variety of things off the menu. Everyone was heartbroken that they didn’t go for the in-house handmade lamb, garlic and apricot sausage off the specials that my son had. He inhaled it. But all the food was delicious. Honest and simple, but clearly much thought about provenance. My three year old loved the play area and walking down to the river. Nothing was too much trouble. Our lovely waitress (Julie I think, apologies) and the landlord (Liam) were so kind. An afternoon of happy memories made, we will return again.

We had booked for a Saturday lunchtime and although the pub was busy, it wasn't rammed. The barman came over and took our order, and then the wait began. Took over an hour for the same barman to come over to say that one of our orders had run out - the devilled shepherds pie. So, would we like the chef to make the shepherds pie, but with pork ? erm, no. Chicken pie with 'shortcrust pastry' it was changed to.Another 30 minutes wait, and the food arrived. I had the steak burger, but the bun looked like the kitchen staff had grabbed and squeezed it. Very mangled appearance. The pastry on the pie was about 2cm thick top and bottom. Looked really really amateurish in appearance and taste. The staff were really lovely and friendly, but the time to wait for the food and it's appearance were really awful. Menu given was limited to quite expensive main mealls. Food seemed overpriced and the Fish and Chips (at £11.50) particularly disappointing. A realively small portion of fish covered in soggy batter which oozed grease. There were plenty of chips which were good served with a minuscule portion of salad. At £11.50 at least a portion of peas should have made an appearance. My friend could find nothing on the menu to tempt and asked if it was possible to have a sandwich and he was given the option of beef which he felt was certainly satisfactory and ok value for money. I had a pint of beer which was luke warm and "flat." I used to visit this pub regularly some years ago and the food was excellent and good value. Whilst the not particularly welcoming service service was quick, there was no evidence of competing customers. After this experience, I will not be back.

Visited on the way past looking for a pub / restaurant with atmosphere. We were not disappointed. We remembered that we had been there some time ago but from the river when boating as the garden goes right down to the river Thames. The menu had a great variety. The wife ordered a roast beef and I ordered a pheasant burger. Probably the first time I’ve had pheasant let alone a pheasant burger. Very tasty and most filling. A pint of Abingdon Bridge went down well in accompaniment. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was country pub style and obviously a popular venue with friendly local customers. Prices were average for this sort of venue and food was of a high quality and cooked really well. I will surely go again for a meal whether from the river or the road and next time, maybe take some family along. Thanks for a great meal. SUPERB! I have difficulty containing my enthusiasm! The best Sunday pub lunch we've had for years. Food: Delicious+++++ With local meats! Chef Austin provides the most exciting menu for miles around! It’s just such a great family pub to relax in the sunshine while our almost three year old runs around making friends. We normally stick to a bowl of chips or (the crispiest!) onion rings but on this occasion we decided to have a look at the menu. I ordered the trio of duck, my husband had the burger and our daughter had the children’s fish fingers with chips. I just want to make a note here that I wasn’t expecting much as there wasn’t anything on the menu that was more than £13 so this was in no way fine dining .......oh how wrong was I!

Arranged with landlord Liam to reserve the mooring at the end of the garden for 6 boats to arrive together and for another couple to have one of the 2 B and B rooms at the Plough. Will admit to being a bit doubtful about this part of the arrangement as the pub is a couple of hundred yards away from the mooring. True to his words a chalk board was put out and thankfully we all moored without any problems. If you go by boat to the Plough, watch the depth!? Only just 3 ft .

We arrived by narrowboat and moored at the bottom of the garden, made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble, food was fantastic as was the service from the bar and waiting staff. Landlord went out of his way to accommodate us. Lovely beer garden to sit and enjoy your drinks or meal. Throughly recommend to give this excellent pub a try.

Some of the worst service I've ever experienced in a restaurant. My friends and I were celebrating a 30th birthday and we were made to feel like we'd burdened someone by turning up at their house.

We went as a group of 16. At the end of the meal our waiter was obviously flustered, but rolled his eyes and shook his head when we order an extra 2 puddings. Food wasn't good either.

Have been to the Plough Inn at Long Wittenham many times now, and never had a bad experience. They have admirably coped with larger parties of 6 adults and 2 kids several times (Sunday lunchtimes always a bit busy, so can slow down service a bit). It's a country pub, nothing fancy, rustic and comfy. If you're looking for something swanky this isn't for you. Food is standard pub grub done well. Menu is short, which means they can make sure it's quality. The garden is big enough to let the kids blow off steam, with a little play area for them. They should be supervised though as the garden slopes down to the river which has no safety barrier, as river boats often moor there. Best pub within stumbling distance of my home in north Didcot.

I'll admit to being a regular visitor to The Plough and especially to its menu - which changes regularly. Liam and Kim run a good pub and their ability to have a pint of my favourite tipple (Butcombe Bitter), served in my favourite glass, standing on the bar by the time I'm through the door is a trick that I deeply admire. But good though these two young folk are, I think that even they would agree that chef Austin is truly the star in their firmament.

Had a booking made by a friend and had a table in a separate room and we all had different things and this was done in an efficient and pleasant manner and was without any delay

The menu for Sunday lunch was slightly different to that published on the website, as there were more traditional roasts on offer. The Roast Port was very tender and the crackling which came with it was first rate. Freshly cooked vegetables in serving dishes and a gravy boat. Gluten Free requirements are not well catered for. Ice Cream was the only option and £4.95 for 3 very tiny scoops of assorted ice-cream was at variance with the size of the plate for the roast lunch, Staff were very friendly and helpful. The pub is popular with locals and children who make use of the outdoor facilities.

A proper country pub with loads of character and characters, it makes such a change in a pub of this type that the locals actually talk to you and you can have a laugh. The staff are all smiles and someone here knows how to keep a good pint.

This pleasant village pub features low beams (mind your head!) and an old log burning stove; very cost during winter, whilst the long garden which sweeps down to the River Thames makes this also an ideal venue for al fresco dining on a warm summer's day. There are three varying ales on offer, mainly from smaller breweries and at least one of which is usually local. The menu is fairly straightforward and reasonably priced. I enjoyed a delicious steak burger served in a decent bun, with chips, onion rings and a small salad leaf garnish. My one small gripe with it was that it was served on a wooden board rather than a plate - many pubs do this but I'm afraid I have never understood the merits of serving food this way. That aside, my visit to this establishment was a thoroughly enjoyable one.

Arrived on a Friday lunch time. Bartender had a attitude to start with, .seemed to be in a hurry to take our order and then hung around the bar doing nothing...Good news was that the beer was very nice, now the bad news , my partner ordered cod and chips, only just about cooked, lots of skin and very poor batter plus almost cold , she left nearly all of it and she is not a fussy eater !!...I had the cottage pie which was quite good and tasty..

First time for us here wanted to have some lunch after visiting the museum, choice quite good and speed of service - guy likes the sound of his own voice as he was singing to the music behind the bar and he thought it was quite funny .....

What a shame. I had enjoyed a few visits to this pub before my most recent, and was always made welcome. However, on my last visit, I left in disgust after being disregarded in favour of "locals". On my first visit to the bar, a local approached AFTER me and was attended to straight away. "Oh well" I thought, things like that happen sometimes, honest mistake, no need to make a fuss etc. However, I went for a second drink and the exact same thing happened again. Can't have been a mistake a second time around. As they had obviously decided my money is not as good as Long Wittenham money, I left in disgust. This kind of two tier service is just not acceptable in this day and age,

We were stuck for a quick meal and stumbled on the Plough. It has a Bar menu and an a la carte menu, we chose The Pheasant burger and the Cottage pie, both we good, but I was surprised the pheasant breast was put whole in the bun rather than sliced and put in. Guest ale was £3.50 and a 175ml Chardonnay £4.20. total bill £30.40. The bar scene seemed good.

I have just moved to the area, chose the pub due to the location by the river. We had Sunday lunch and pudding. Food was really tasty and friendly service. We had our timings a bit wrong and turned up early. Our table was ready, service was prompt - thank you!

Our friends who live in the area chose this pub to take us to for numerous reasons. One of which is how old the pub is. It was a coolish evening for early September and the fire was on in the room we were in. I believe it may have been the only table in this small room. The service was great, every bit of food the six of us had was scrumptious. Our relatives dog was also welcome to be there. We decided on dessert and the Eton Mess was enjoyed by a couple of people and my first; but not only Sticky Toffee Pudding of the trip - it was the best. I really like the way the food was served - on wooden platters. Would love to come back when back in the area.

We have absolutely no complaints re the service and facilities other than the slippery bath as a shower.. could be rectified with a rubber mat( especially for the more elderly guests) Bedroom… spacious, spotless and comfy! We had an evening meal which was utterly divine… The starter of cheese brûlée was highly original and delicious; followed by venison with the most sensational sauce( jus!). Dessert finished things off wonderfully with a Apple and blackberry crumble cake! Mark our waiter was most attentive. Two breakfasts were of the continental variety with plenty of fresh fruit; muesli; yoghurt; cheese; ham and a lot of fresh toast to include brioche! Full English was on offer but we were having lunch later so opted for the healthier course Maybe a cheese board could have added that extra dessert option The chef ( possibly owner) Marcel who hails from Slovakia was charming and clearly a most competent chef.
