Just had fish and chips today with curry sauce 😋 Fish was cooked to perfection (both)in light, crispy batter and the fish was moist and melted in your mouth! Chips cooked to perfection and tasted lovely. Girls serving always friendly and do a great job even when there are huge queues of hungry customers! The restaurant is an added bonus and well worth a visit. 10/10👍👍👍👍

I was recommended this Chippie through a friend. The food is fabulous (perfect chips, tasty pies and crisp battered cod) and the prices are so much more reasonable than the rest of the chippies in the area. Great quality food at amazing prices! Very much recommended.

Disappointing visit. We ate inside and ordered 2 regular fish, chips and peas and side of bread. It was not busy inside so food came out within 2 minutes. Fish batter was very thin and greasy,needed cooking more to crispen although fish tasted nice inside. Peas were lovely! Chips needed cooking more, looked very pale! Expected 2 slices of bread but only received 1 slice that was lathered in butter,would have been nice to put butter on ourselves. We were not asked until leaving whether food was ok. Would probably not visit again!

Well what can I say apart from absolutely Brilliant. The Best Chippy in Notts by far!!!. The chips were hot, fresh and tasty, fish was fresh with perfect crispy batter. I asked for fresh salad as well, as I’m a fussy person 😅 The lady that served me was so polite and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this place if you aren’t already hooked here, you won't be disappointed. Ps: Curry sauce best I have ever tasted.👌 Thank you The Plains

The wife and I had a spontaneous visit tonight, and can't recommend them highly enough, great staff very friendly and welcoming, the food was fried to perfection, and tastede amazing, we will definitely be returning soon.

The chips are passable, but they're nothing special. I know we are in a cost of living crisis and prices are shooting up left and right, but £3.80 for a measly portion of chips is excessive. This is the only chip shop on Mapperley Top so the owners are obviously seeing how far they can push the prices, but this is unethical.

Just had a delivery of fish and chips. So very disappointed. Chips certainly not fresh obviously re fried from earlier that day. Fish was buried under the chips. No wonder why again not fresh . Batter hard and dry as for the fish had to get out a magnifying glass to actually see the fish which was tasteless. Always rated this place highly but after todays experience will not be using or recommending this fish bar again.

Went at lunchtime 4th August. Ordered large haddock, battered sausage ’fishcake and small peas. Haddock rancid, sausage cold, fishcake OK. Would I go again. A big at NO. They must have known the fish was off. The smell was awful

I’ve been coming here for years whenever I’m visiting Notts. it’s always my first stop when I get to town. I’ve recently backpacked with my wife from Lands End to John o’ Groats and we ate at a lot of chippys and pubs over the last five months. This is the best chippy I’ve found! Only one other came close (in Wales) The Plains consistently serves Perfectly cooked cod, the best mushy peas I’ve ever had and fresh chips. My wife always gets the steak and kidney pie with chips, peas and gravy. She’s from Notts and this is also her favorite place. Service and staff are always friendly and keep the place very clean, top notch guys, Well done!

Quality fish and chips, but why so stingy on the chips, you have to pay upfront first so unless you have cash you cant buy a few extra chips on card when you see the tiny portions, we will be heading to Oceans Fish bar in future, had enough of old grumpy face

Shocking is the only word to describe the excuse of a takeaway! Ordered large fish and chips with curry sauce, the whole lot was virtually stone cold and the fish batter was nearly empty of fish! £13.50 for a cold dinner that was probably left over from lunch time. Sorry but will NOT return here ☹️

Would Highly recommend!We pre Ordered from here for our Holiday club children in Half term. When we called to pre order we spoke to Tony, he asked how many children we had to feed to which he so kindly gave us extra food for all the children. We cannot thank Tony and his team enough! The children had a lovely Pyjama day and a chip shop Lunch! Thank you again from all the Staff and Children at Jesters!

I ordered a large bag of wrapped chips to take away costing £3.80. Upon getting home I unwrapped a tray of chips. I called plains chip shop to notify them they'd made a mistake,only be told that the tray of lonely miserable chips they'd served me was there signature large chips. Not what I was expecting. If like me you expect a large bag of chips to serve at least an adult and a child don't go to plains chip shop. Crazy prices ripping people off

Like to tell you what it was like but after 15mins of being ignored whilst they served everyone else who walked in...they said sorry was you waiting....no you idiots just felt like hanging around in a chip shop. Needless to say will never go again and would advise anyone who expects proper customer service to avoid

Great fish, crisp batter, love the mushy peas. Chips OK but a double fry would make them soooo much crisper.

We used to go to this chip shop frequently I’m not to sure what’s happened!? but we won’t be going anymore that’s for sure! We made a recent order with missing meals!! made a phone call to the shop and she questioned me as though I was lying!! They eventually brought the missing items were rude and the owner drove off glaring at us as though we were making it up! I actually thought they were going to come back and rummage through our bins!! We still ended up a meal missing!! They made no apology for there mistake whatsoever and we spent close to £50 on this particular order! Fish was dry, chilli portion was ridiculous! Jacket potatoes were awful ! Never again! Plenty of other friendly better chippy’s!

We did a big order and didn’t receive half of it and the portions was ridiculous !when we called the restaurant they brought it upon them selfs to bring the rest of the food but was rude! When we reported it we received a phone call from them demanding money as we reported it

This used to be a great fish shop. Today I paid 7.50 for a large cod that seemed to have been cooked at lunchtime. Dry and awful. Don’t bother! Go elsewhere.

Popped in on Thursday 21st July and sat down, a waitress bought is tge menus and my wife ordered chilli and rice whilst me and my son ordered fish and chips and mushy peas. The food was all cooked fresh and well presented. All the staff were friendly and the shop was very clean. The fish and chips were possibly the best ive had for years. We are over this way again in August so we will be coming back

I love going yo this chip shop it has beautiful fish and chips very fresh and taste delicious .The staff are always very friendly and very helpful .Everytime I go I always find the shop clean and tidy .There's seats outside if it's a nice day .

Enjoyed the fish, chips and mushy peas from Plains. The taste and quality of the food is unrivalled locally. Love that the food comes boxed and is sustainable. Plains gives very friendly service and they always go over an above, catering to my husbands special dietary requests too!

The BEST fish and chips I've ever had! I ordered some fish and chips (plus sausage and mushy peas on the side naturally) to takeaway from Plains Fish Bar the other day and they were really tasty! I find some fish bars can be too greasy or leave you feeling disappointed afterwards, but Plains Fish Bar certainly didn't! If you're looking for high quality, nice & hot & super yummy Fish & Chips, I would 100% recommend - 10/10 I will be going again... cheeky Friday treat again maybe? ;-)

We had a lovely meal from The Plains F&C shop. The food was exactly what you want from a high quality takeaway - cooked perfectly, with all the flavour but not too much of the grease. 10/10 would recommend!

We had fresh Haddock and chips this evening (10.02.2022) and they were superb and comparable to Whitby.

I like the taste of what they cook in. I find the small cod, chips and peas an excellent dinner.

Poor portion sizes, also portion sizes depend on staff members. Large chips portion is equivalent to regular elsewhere. Prices do not reflect this.

First time going in here today as I was starving. It looked clean as we walked in, we went to sit down and a lady came over in minutes to our table... the food was hot and delicious... so overall great staff, great food and reasonable priced I'd definitely recommend this place and we'll definitely be going again

Have worked across the road since March and I had fish and chips here for the first time today .Really delicious ,lovely fish -will be back !

First discovered this place in 2003 when I moved to Mapperley; after I got married my wife and I would get water in our mouths thinking about their pie and chips. We eventually moved away from Mapperley but would still make a diversion to get our favourite comfort food. Today was an absolute disaster and we are so disappointed. Poor quality potatoes undercooked so inedible. The pie's pastry was not cooked so we're awaiting indigestion later on. Even the mushy peas had a nasty almost chemical flavour. So after 18 years today was the last time.

Despite the lack of homemade sauces (whined about by my partner)I thought the fish was of reasonable quality and the chips were tasty. I've had better but given the large queues outside the place it's clearly the best in the local area.

We had takeaway fish and chips for our family of five last night, including two orders of gluten free fish and chips - one for a coeliac and one for a non-coeliac so that we could share the extras. Literally the best fish and chips I've ever had! Beautiful fish with a crisp, light batter and delicious chips that were not at all greasy. The regular orders came with equally positive reviews. Generous portions (the regular seemed like a large) and friendly, efficient service. Highly recommend!

Ah man the fish was lovely and fresh!!!

Went in this evening at 20.40 and asked for a fresh large cod,was told they shut in 20 minutes and can't cook one in that time!!! I can only choose a fish out of display cabinet,it was freezing cold and inedible, never again, chips cold also,never going back

Usually excellent. Early this evening wet not fully cooked batter on the inside of the fish and soggy chips. Really disappointed because we were looking forward to what they normally serve :( Hopefully back on form next time

Consistently good fish and great chips from this Mapperley chip shop, on a par with Cod Scallop....suggest phoning ahead to place your order on a Friday and Saturday night.

The gluten free fish and chips from here are always of the highest standard, i love that they are wrapped in sustainable packaging and there's virtually no plastic or Styrofoam to be seen... So why not 5 ☆ ? The service at the counter is very mixed - The young lady serving is great and has a lovely attitude, the second server would benefit from further customer service training . So in a nutshell, great food 😋 with hit and miss service -

The BEST fish'n'chips on the planet. Fish was fresh & succulent, batter was light and crispy, chips were soft on the inside but crispy on the outside, mushy peas were nicely mushed, but not just a mush like you get in some places.... Far, FAR better than Andy's in Stapleford ;-} Worth paying for a taxi to have them delivered! We'll definitely be back to try the chilli con carne.

We ordered fish and chips for 25 people for the day before our wedding. We couldn't have asked better service or better food. Julie and the team were really accommodating and friendly throughout.

Great chips.. great vegan options... but they just pour the sauce all over everything making a soggy mess even when asked not to. Needs improving.

Best chippy in Nottingham. Pricing is good value whilst not being cheap enough that you worry about quality, and on that note the quality has always been top notch. Staff are friendly, queues are always quickly moving. Highly recommend.

This has to be the best fish & chip shop in Nottinghamshire. The portion size was enormous and cooked to perfection. I told them that I had to travel about 18 miles so he kindly put them into individual boxes then wrapped them in foil to keep them hot. I will certainly be back there next time I am in Nottingham
