You can totally rely on the plains fish bar for quality fish and chips. Large cod special is my favourite. Can get busy on a Friday evening.

I brought haddock and chips. Chips not the same quality as they have been for all the years I have been going. Tasted like chips cooked in old fat. Won’t be going there again.

It was okay as far as it goes. Chips were a bit squishy. I ordered a Cornish Pasty but surprisingly a cheese and onion slice turned up without any explanation! Not a lot of flavour in the sauces. On a plus note turned up on time

The restaurant was amazing in terms of food the fish was fresh taken out and batter fried in front of us ensuring freshness . The customer service was outstanding and exceptional. Very considerate staffs as well. Thank you for your hospitality and wonderful food. Will definitely visit with my family again

Still nice but I've had better

This place used to me a go-to for me living in the area but since the change of ownership the quality has plummeted, the prices have sky rocketed and the portion sizes have withered away. Don't bother here anymore. Such a shame really as it used to be a great traditional family run chippy.

Food was absolutely shocking, chips literally burnt and fish not much better, cant comprehend why they would even consider sending this food out, clearly dont care, never again.

We had the sit down at the back...the food wasn't too bad but the prices were extortionate...when asked if I wanted a drink I said NO not at that price(£1:80 can of pop)....flipping eck even Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask.....won't be going back there!

experienced severe Gastroenteritis from the fish and chips. Was hospitalised at QMC for 3 nights, and was extremely poorly. it was my 1st time ordering from here and seemed okay from the reviews. wont order again, and would advise others to be wary....

food was tasty. But was quite cold when it came so I had to heat it up in the oven.

Just had fish and chips today with curry sauce 😋 Fish was cooked to perfection (both)in light, crispy batter and the fish was moist and melted in your mouth! Chips cooked to perfection and tasted lovely. Girls serving always friendly and do a great job even when there are huge queues of hungry customers! The restaurant is an added bonus and well worth a visit. 10/10👍👍👍👍

Quality not the same I have had meals inside and ordered take way. The fish batter not crispy at all with lots of chips bits. The peas were way too green. Only had a few mouth full left the rest just not the same as before

My review would be different if any food was actually delivered, as per the app the driver hung around outside my house for 15 minutes left then said food was delivered.

I was recommended this Chippie through a friend. The food is fabulous (perfect chips, tasty pies and crisp battered cod) and the prices are so much more reasonable than the rest of the chippies in the area. Great quality food at amazing prices! Very much recommended.

The cheese order that cost over £2 per portion was the smallest amount I’ve ever seen, requested for it to be put on the chips and it was at the front on about 8 chips as the amount was so small. I also believe many of the reviews are by people they know to bring up the rating as they don’t deserve a 4.8 rating, many reviews by the same person, I think I count either 13 or 16 by Luke. Same 5 star review with no comment. Food subpar .

Whilst the food was very nice; I ordered a large portion of chips to share with the family and the price of £5.80 reassured me that there should be enough. What was delivered I would have classed as a portion suitable for one and a half people. Very mean portions.

Been going to the plains fish bar for 30 years plus, foods always nice and large portions .we decided to order on just eat for the first time. The large fish was the same size as the regular, the large chips was a tray level normally they are heaped if ordering large , the large fish normally fills the box with the tail broken over, i rang up and complained to the staff and all I got was they are done on weight they was the same size fish. Funny how the only time we order on just eat tge portion sizes are wrong won't ever go again pants and down comes to mind

Disappointing visit. We ate inside and ordered 2 regular fish, chips and peas and side of bread. It was not busy inside so food came out within 2 minutes. Fish batter was very thin and greasy,needed cooking more to crispen although fish tasted nice inside. Peas were lovely! Chips needed cooking more, looked very pale! Expected 2 slices of bread but only received 1 slice that was lathered in butter,would have been nice to put butter on ourselves. We were not asked until leaving whether food was ok. Would probably not visit again!

Well what can I say apart from absolutely Brilliant. The Best Chippy in Notts by far!!!. The chips were hot, fresh and tasty, fish was fresh with perfect crispy batter. I asked for fresh salad as well, as I’m a fussy person 😅 The lady that served me was so polite and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this place if you aren’t already hooked here, you won't be disappointed. Ps: Curry sauce best I have ever tasted.👌 Thank you The Plains

The chips are passable, but they're nothing special. I know we are in a cost of living crisis and prices are shooting up left and right, but £3.80 for a measly portion of chips is excessive. This is the only chip shop on Mapperley Top so the owners are obviously seeing how far they can push the prices, but this is unethical.

Just had a delivery of fish and chips. So very disappointed. Chips certainly not fresh obviously re fried from earlier that day. Fish was buried under the chips. No wonder why again not fresh . Batter hard and dry as for the fish had to get out a magnifying glass to actually see the fish which was tasteless. Always rated this place highly but after todays experience will not be using or recommending this fish bar again.

Went at lunchtime 4th August. Ordered large haddock, battered sausage ’fishcake and small peas. Haddock rancid, sausage cold, fishcake OK. Would I go again. A big at NO. They must have known the fish was off. The smell was awful

I’ve been coming here for years whenever I’m visiting Notts. it’s always my first stop when I get to town. I’ve recently backpacked with my wife from Lands End to John o’ Groats and we ate at a lot of chippys and pubs over the last five months. This is the best chippy I’ve found! Only one other came close (in Wales) The Plains consistently serves Perfectly cooked cod, the best mushy peas I’ve ever had and fresh chips. My wife always gets the steak and kidney pie with chips, peas and gravy. She’s from Notts and this is also her favorite place. Service and staff are always friendly and keep the place very clean, top notch guys, Well done!
