Stopped by for lunch and had the lentil soup which was great. Decided to treat myself to the £5 raspberry pistachio traybake cake- which does not taste of either. It is lemon loaf traybake with cerise fondant and a few pistachios sprinkled on top. Looks better than it tastes, very disappointing. Far too sweet.

We had settled-in for a nice lunch of soup and a pot of tea. Initially the soup (leek & potato) had a nice flavour, but immediately after the second spoonful the taste of pepper was so strong that i couldn't face any more. Whomever created this concoction quite obviously put the entire contents of their pepper-mill into the soup, and then some more. When i broached the subject of the soup to the staff, i was met with a feeling that no-one had any idea or any interest as to what the procedure would be when a customer voiced any complaint. The tea was the only saving grace today...

Hopelessly organised staff, customers at different stations and the queue bottlenecked waiting to be served. I took three different spoons all had congealed food present. Soup pea&mint was warm at best and there was no bread to choose from, just a white piece of crusty baguette. Such a disappointment considering I’d walked past numerous bars, cafes and restaurants to have what I expected to be a nice lunch. It’s not my first visit to their cafe but it will definitely be my last.

How the mighty have fallen! The cafeteria would have been better staying shut as there were huge long very slow moving queues and waits to be served, only basic offerings and 2 understaffed stations open, poor souls were pinging back and forth like shuttlecocks and they weren’t in their first flush of youth! . Soup was over salted pumpkin & ginger and previous offerings of chunky cut bread either white or brown no longer on show and a bit of white baguette is what they give, no brown alternative. No meals on display and generally a dispiriting experience that made me wonder if JL has financial difficulties as they would stoop so low

I have just paid £6.20 for a flat white coffee and a fruit scone with butter and jam. The scone is lovely but my flat white must be the worst I have ever bought. I even questioned whether or not it was a flat white when I was handed the cup. It looked and, in the end, tasted nothing like a flat white!!! In addition the standard of service was poor. The person who served me was chewing gum and the person who was at the till stood and put lip salve on her lips while she took my payment. A huge drop in standards!

This is a reply to most of these comments I've had to endure. JL has to become a restaurant with a side area for breakfast. I left but we try so hard & against no idea of numbers it's a balance against waste/finances etc., The service however was always utmost in our minds & hopefully oor scones never be gone. 🤗

Nice cake, pleasant coffee, but dear me, what a shambolic operation. Queued for about 20 minutes, I think, there were only two couples ahead of me, everyone just having hot drinks and cakes. Think they need an extra coffee machine and a slicker process, not one server wandering the full length of the huge serving area to get all the different bits.

The place to eat cafe offerings lacks the quality expected from the John Lewis brand. We had popped in for bit brunch, but never again. The breakfast we ordered was poor, mostly felt warned up and lacked any really quality. Sadly the worst part was the poached eggs. The first offering was a tiny wee sad looking poached egg on piece of sourdough bread surrounded in random seeds. We asked for a softer egg, which the polite staff did attempt but sadly the second offering was not much better, 2 eggs both slightly runnier but tasted awful. We were warned the eggs are not prepared fresh onsite and the condition is outside if the staff control, not sure how that works, sadly the result is extremely poor. Only a fried egg is prepared fresh onsite. Why offer something of such poor quality, Avoid the poached eggs!

I visited John Lewis Cafe in Buchanan Galleries on 24th December for breakfast. I ended up just having a coffee with a roll with sausage and my son had coke with a toastie. Service was slow and we were told the toastie would be delivered to our table. After at least 10 minute wait it did not appear and we had to go to counter to collect. It was cold in the middle so had to be reheated. No apology and staff didn't seem to be bothered in the slightest. We got the impression they were mainly uni students doing holiday work so were not well trained and couldn't have cared less. Definitely wouldn't go back as there are far better places to enjoy a tasty breakfast.

Yet again terrible staff service and food. After several years of not returning to the cafe after terrible service, my family decided to give the cafe another go. It must be the time of day as just after 5pm only 1 till and counter available for tea and refreshments. 3 members of staff cleaning down area behind counter in preparation for closure. 1 member of staff attempting to serve customer but having issue with till. At no point did any of the staff display any eye contact apologise for the delay explain the situation or attempt to take an order. A manager then came cover again ignoring the lengthening queue, made no attempt to communicate to any customer and failed to fix the problem. She then left the staff and eventually another member of staff came over and attempted to fix the problem and coming to the conclusion to change to another area and till. Upon paying and sitting down to eat and drink our refreshments only you find the cake which originally must have been a frozen product had been insufficiently defrosted and was stone cold and inedible. I had to go and point out to the staff and exchange it for another item. Having worked in the service industry for serval years I will not be returning.

I invest so much in the John Lewis and Waitrose brands and yet the food is sloppy, frequently tepid and simple looks un-cared for and un-loved, in its preparation, execution and visual display, where it sits untended and frequently looking tired. The menu is far from inspiring from a company with such a background. By all means have the fancy elements as well as the basics that mum's, dad's and the kids wish, but look after it, show both it and us respect. And charge it accordingly with a good range of pricing.

You get a 'morning' greeting but then no further communication. As I waited I was looking for somewhere to sit but all vacant tables - there were many , were covered in other people's detritus. There is some plate shuffling and wiping that goes on behind the counter but nothing helpful. I moved a tray from the table I wanted to sit at to an available surface where it remained. I get the impression it's probably somebody else's job, but during my visit it was no body's job. This cafe really lets down the John Lewis store.

Visited here yesterday with my husband for coffee and cake. We hadn't realised it was not run by John Lewis any more. We always had black coffees with pouring cream. Ordered the coffee but could not find the cream. The young server said they only had milk and showed the logo on his apron to inform us it was no longer John Lewis's cafe. Coffee was ok but we noticed the cake selection to be quite poor and we couldn't find a dry tray. There was no member of staff welcoming customers at the entrance and it was much quieter than normal. We're really disappointed that it has changed as it was always our first port of call on a shopping trip and very surprised that John Lewis think this is an improvement to their store.

This place is truly abysmal. A big step down from the previous JL cafe, and that was not great either. The staff are young and seem continuously confused, even by simple questions like 'do you have milk please ?', simple staff training may remedy this (or maybe not). There has been a substantial price hike too...it's not clear why though as the quality and service is considerably more substandard than previously. Serving tongs are few and the ones available are grubby...this is resultant in people picking up cakes with fingers, licking said fingers, changing their mind then placing them back in the serving tray to choose another cake.....YUCK. I will never be back to this place....the only good thing it has going for it is that it is handy for JL shoppers.

I love John Lewis but the cafe has always been over priced. The food is ok, service efficient but there are better places to eat in Glasgow.

O dear!!!! What happened to John Lewis!!!! Popped in for tea and cake, (ended up being a lemon curd muffin, )Usually, I always look forward to my JL treat, but was left deflated!!! Staff firstly, were really fed up looking and disinterested, secondly the thing I was most looking forward to, my muffin, was stale and not fresh, so strange as JL cakes are usually really yummy!!!! It really has changed since the two restaurant became one!!!!

Baguettes weren't ready when I popped in for a breakfast roll so I was served overcooked sausage on 2 slices of bread. Bacon was a not an alternative as it looked so crisp having been sitting around for too long. Very poor experience & not what you expect from JLP. Not cheap either.

Was unaware that Benugo had taken over at John Lewis Glasgow store / restaurant. Over many years, and as I live several miles away from Glasgow, arriving in the City has for me meant first stop - coffee at John Lewis. Yesterday, with my grown-up family, we experience poor service and disrespect from one member of staff staff behind a counter on the lower floor, around 1 p.m - ish at the 1st floor area and then later, when I was alone and having a late much needed lunch, between 3 - 4 pm I experienced an incident in the 2nd floor cafe/ restaurant - more of a misunderstanding by a member of staff, than disrespect. Each time the problem was resolved by a Supervisor. Each time the tables had not been cleared and we had to clear clutter from a table before we could sit. That, of course meant that table was not cleaned. The cup I was given had lipstick on it (which I wiped off with a napkin)I felt really sorry for the overworked staff. Poor show JL for allowing this to happen where previously dining was a relaxing experience

My wife and I call there last week for lunch. each of us had leak and potato soup and bread. Soup was so thick that it had the texture of a porridge slurry with little or no liquid. As a result we couldn't eat it. Pointed this out to a member of staff who to their credit offered to change it or refund our payment We choose the later. Surly it cannot be so difficult to prepare a decent pot of soup.

After a 3 hour train journey down from the West Highlands, I headed for John Lewis's good toilets and café only to be overcharged for a snack lunch.Joining the queue, I avoided the superb looking cakes ion the right and continued o for the hot food. I am partially sighted but was attracted by a piece of salmon on half a bread roll and had some what turned out to be delicious garnish of red cabbage coleslaw. However, I could not enjoy the meal as after getting a black coffee, I was gouged for £11.85. The salmon also turned out to be frozen.Pensioners apparently in the know had all gone for the soup so I think John Lewis is now targeting not just ladies who lunch but rich ladies who lunch. If I'm paying over a tenner for a better snackette lunch, there are better alternatives.

Please tell me how John Lewis can justify charging £3.50 for a tiny piece of cake ? As long as John Lewis caters for the Rich Housewives of Glasgow I will do not be back, Day light robbery for average cakes and average coffee with appalling service. A joke.

We called in for coffee and a scone. I asked for an Americano with hot milk on the side I like my coffee quite strong. There was hardly enough milk to turn it brown. No side plates for our scone we had to use saucers. No knifes when I asked I was sent over to another counter they had none. I found a member of staff she said she had put some in the trays? I eventually found were she had put them and there was only one knife there so we had to share. Tables were not cleared. Very poor experience. For the price can't see me going back I will go to Costa next time

There is lovely views from the cafe. It is a good simple layout with separate sections for hot and cold food. There is not a massive choice on the menu but enough to cater for all needs. The portions are generous and very filling

Lunchtime visit - opted for panini type sandwiches and asked for them to be heated. Ordered 2 decaf Americanos - we heard waitress passing on order but we were given 2 regular Americanos - long wait for replacements and then when we got to table we discovered sandwiches were stone cold. Not a particularly pleasant lunch given the price!! Need to get ordering and serving system sorted!

I took my daughters and friends to the new cafe Benugo at John Lewis Glasgow for tea and cake as part of a birthday celebration. I spoke to one of the managers a day or so before as my youngest daughter has a severe nut allergy. We were planning to visit on a busy Saturday afternoon however they very willingly planned and prepared a nut free afternoon tea for her . They have a lot of cakes containing nuts around all of the counters so this was really helpful, and much appreciated . She loved it. Sure, the cafe appears to have had it's teething problems ... tricky to find cutlery and the queues are long.. a number of young staff looking confused .. but they are all well mannered and helpful in my experience and the coffee is very good, far superior to anything they have served me over several years in the place to eat... and the food with salad is very tasty. Thank you !

I somehow didn't expect to have haggis and neaps in John Lewis. As a southerner, I tend to expect scones and cakes. I wasn't expecting a Burns Night whilst in the Highlands so took up the suggestion of haggis when the opportunity arose. It proved to be rather salty but was calmed by a bland "whisky" sauce. The tatties and neaps were good as the former were well mashed and latter were cubed and still had some bite within the combined veggie dish. It was suggested I have a drink with it and opted for red wine. Regrettably it turned out that there wasn't any !

Dropped in for a coffee and sandwich 2 of us got toasties which were just right and very filling, one of us got a seafood chowder which was fantastic with lots of fish. The staff were efficient and pleasant, service was a little slow but not too bad. I would recommend this place.

The queue was enormous as we went in to the left side. I stood for a good 10 minutes before I noticed people going over to the serving bar on the right for drinks, which was free of customers. None of the staff (3) on this bar were asking customers to go over. None of the staff on the bar on the left were telling customers wanting drinks to go over to the right! My coffee was nice and the decaf latte for my friend was good too.

Tries to be a smart place to eat but basic blunders and grubbiness let it down. Tried to get a clean tray (which incidentally are not in an obvious place you have to look for them) but they were all vile and sticky, yuk! Prices quite expensive. Plates for cakes far too large so you can't get more than a few items on the tray. No ice or glass offered for my can of soft drink even though it was well overpriced. Went looking for a knife to cut the cakes, again not obvious where to get them. Dirty tables and stuff lying around. A poor effort I only go back because my elderly mother can manage the short distance from the car park.

A lot of poor reviews, which I think is a shame. OK, the service is not top notch, but I thought the food most certainly was. Once they find their feet on the service it will be a great place for a shopping trip lunch break.

Benugo is the replacement for the John Lewis cafe. No longer John Lewis - the space is rented by Benugo. We were regulars to the previous cafe but won't be back.Dirty dishes and tables, butter served in dirty previously used jam jars and expensive for what we had.Scones were terrible! Very disappointing.

I frequented the old cafe on a regular basis as I'm gluten intolerant and it was one of the few places to have a decent cake and cup of tea , they also served other gluten free options which was a god send as I'm a coeliac. The recent changes to this restaurant are appalling, I agree with some of the other comment about the staff, the cleanliness and most importantly the sever reduction of choice compared to the previous cafe.Needless to say people have voted with their feet, the place was empty and I cannot for the life of me understand why it was changed , only than it was a cost cutting exercise, poor Show John Lewis , I expect better !

No volveríamos
