A wonderful find. A warm welcome with great service and food to be found here. Had the warm Brie bacon and cranberry baguette which was delicious. Situated right on the pier with fabulous views. I would thoroughly recommend this place and will be back someday.

Visited yesterday with my mum & Aunt while staying in the area. What a lovely little place. Inside & outside seating with a lovely outlook over Lake Windermere. Very friendly helpful staff & the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Lovely fresh bread with loads of filling & a good choice of fillings to choose from. I did see a sign saying dog friendly. Will definitely be back when next in the area.

We were staying in Ambleside for a long weekend and took a walk to Lake Windermere. We were looking for a cafe for a bite to eat and came across the Pier Cafe. The staff were friendly and helpful. The views were perfect especially as it was such a gorgeous day. The food was delicious. A small full English breakfast and a BLT baguette plus two cappuccino's. It cost £25 for everything. I can definitely recommend visiting here and wouldn't hesitate if visiting the area again.

We popped into the Pier Cafe to get a coffee before we had a boat trip on Lake Windermere, when we arrived back we decided to go in again for some lunch. We were not disappointed and we had cheese and bacon melts, they were delicious and well presented. Thoroughly enjoyed by us both and just like to say the cafe itself was immaculately clean and well maintained with staff who cleared the tables once people had left.

Visited this Cafe yesterday morning for breakfast and was taken by the cold unfriendly approach adopted by the waitress towards me. Whether it was to do with Coronavirus problem who knows. Entered the Cafe mask on plus sanitized hands and asked by waitress (What do you want) not good morning or how can I help? I ordered a breakfast and sat down to a lovely view across the lake. My tea was in a paper cup and received my breakfast over my shoulder in a take away box with wooden knife and fork. No asking how my breakfast was because it was good, if they'd ask? I had no contact from the staff until I left the cafe where the waitress said thank you. Unfriendly, cold and atmosphere, doesn't make me go back again. I travel for work, smartly dressed and polite and don't deserve this attitude even in a pandemtic.

Lady on the till made you feel like everything you ordered was a problem for her. She told my partner after all ready seeing him that he had to go and use the public toilets. Even though he was a customer and did the same to other customers. Didn’t provide me with a cup for my tea had to ask for sugar stirrer. Made everything very unrelaxing. Partner ordered a well done bacon and egg barm took at least half an hour to come. They said it was because he wanted it well done. It turned up hardly cooked so goodness knows what not well done looks like. They made you feel like you had to take out by asking you a million times when you had all ready sat down and it was obvious you was eating in. It’s over priced. The coffee tasted like warm water. When I asked for another butter for my scon she just got me one and stroppily handed it me saying nothing. For some reason the women in this place must feel superior to the customers as everyone in the que was made to feel uncomfortable. She made what was supposed to be a very simple thing into a huge deal. There definitely needs to be a more friendly less stressful person on the till. Won’t be going again and I would imagine a lot of the people I saw being served won’t either. May I add there was only us in there when we ordered. Very dissatisfied that I spent my money in there

Whiled away some time in this cafe on a beautiful, sunny autumn day - corner table with stunning view of the Lake and beyond. Heard another customer complain, I don't think the waitress gave a damn. Shame, would have given 5 stars if tea not so diabolical.

There's some fantastic friendly coffee houses in Ambleside who do amazing coffee and this is not one of them! I visited Windermere for the day with my partner and my 2 children, aged 4 and 2. As we sat down on an outside table, my partner went to the bar to order food and drinks. As he was doing so, I opened a sandwich packet for my children, which we had prepared at home. Then the said grey haired man (with a moustache) came outside to me and said 'this isn't a picnic area' (in a really rude manner). I then said that my partner was at the bar buying drinks and food, to which the man replied (in front of my children) that I was really rude opening sandwiches from home (for my children). To my shock we left the cafe and we were very disappointed and upset at the way we were spoken to. All because I opened a sandwich from home for my two young children who were very hungry. They even tried to stop us parking later in the day about 1 hour before the stated closing time. Come on pier give some concessions and use some common sense..

Chose this cafe for a snack and hot drink,..having forty mins to wait for our boat. It does hot and cold foods, nothing fancy but cooked fresh and as our table was nearby the kitchen door,....left open , we could see that the place was immaculately clean...floor was literally shining from obviously thorough attention given from pride in their business! Tables and chairs lovely quality. Good value for money and the staff obviously love their jobs, it showed in the care and attention given. All round nice place.

Great location but the food is overpriced and very average, disappointing how these places trade on location alone. Should have gone for the fish and chips next door

Six friends all had a full English breakfast and all agreed it hit the spot . Only complaint 2 of us asked for no beans and were not given an alternative but still charged full price . On the whole a very clean cafe with good service .

Had two lovely full English Breakfasts at The Pier Cafe and this is one of the best breakfasts we have had for a long time. For £5.95, could not fault it, had a good plateful of food, very filling. Also lovely latte and cappuccino coffees. Seating in or outside of the pier, ideal for us as we had the dog, so decided to sit outside with great views. When we do go back to Ambleside, we will return.

Dropped in for some late lunch after a trip on the Windermere lake cruise. My two girls had kids sausage, chips and beans which was as you would expect. My wife had scampi and I had battered fish. Cannot complain, everything was a reasonable price for where the cafe is located.

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.
