Visited today with my family, could not have been a more enjoyable experience. Attentive, accommodating and friendly staff. Ensured the 4 of us could sit together once another group had finished - making it much easier to keep an eye on our two little boys. Offered an easy alternative of baked beans on toast (though neither of our boys like that - think they're the only kids that don't!), but felt assured could ask for a very slight amendment to the sandwich offering for my eldest (6), we ordered our youngest (4) jam on toast which came with a selection of 4 jams! Exceeded expectations all round, expecting a loaf sized piece of lemon drizzle, when lemon cake was offered, instead it was a three layer lemon cake that was delicious, everything was really reasonably priced and delicious. Would recommend without hesitation and I don't know for sure, but it sounds like they provide some level of takeaway too, if you're looking for picnic bits. Thank you

We had a great afternoon tea, the ladies couldn't have been more helpful. They cater well for gluten free and the raspberry cake was delicious.

Perhaps we arrived too early; perhaps we just caught them on a bad day, whichever, service with a smile would go along way. A basic coffee and tea seemed to bring a scowl. A polite, reasonable enquiry as to whether they sold biscuits brought another scowl. Perhaps it's just the way we looked which brought out the worst. I normally leave a tip wherever we go; the fact The Picnic Box did not receive a tip speaks for itself.

Had a great late lunch at this comfortable friendly cafe, the sandwiches were good with plenty of filling, they were very tasty, they obviously use good quality ingredients which makes all the difference. Then there was the cake! we both had a piece of St Clements cake which was amazing and all at a very reasonable price

Stayed in Lynton for the week and came across this tea room. Having looked at other eateries in the area we found them to be very expensive. This one is very reasonable and this is why we went in. Lovely homemade soup and roll - very tasty. Sausage roll was offered with salad and slaw for only £2, fantastic value for money. The ladies that worked there were very helpful.

Had tow large lattes at £2.50 each, place was clean and tidy. Only offered a limited menu for food, so did not order any. The biggest let down is that it does not have any toilets, so you cannot wash your hands before eating if you needed too.

Lovely little cafe in Lynton. In need of an obligatory cream tea after a walk along the river from Watersmeet and a ride up from Lynmouth in the funicular found this cafe. Mid afternoon midweek the place was almost empty. We sat in the window seat and enjoyed the pleasant background music. The service was prompt and friendly. The scones were freshly made and still warm. The clotted cream was plentiful. The cost of 2 scones with scream and jam with a pot of tea was about £5 which is very reasonable.

First just went is for a cup of tea, place was clean and food looked scrumptious. So came back the next day and had a really nice lunch. The two girls do a really good job and I don't know why it isn't packed to the rafters. Go and have lunch and you'll go again.

This is a very nice place for tea/coffee and cakes. The cakes are particularly good and they offer takeaways as there is no bakery in Lynton

We had lunch here on a very rainy day in Lynton and it turned a damp day into a very happy one! The sandwiches we had were freshly prepared and my daughter really enjoyed her sausage roll (she's an expert after having one in every part of Devon). We then couldn't resist a slice of Victoria Sponge cake and flapjack afterwards and they tasted as perfect as they looked. If you are visiting Lynton, please make this the place you have lunch - you will not regret it. Friendly, cosy places to eat like this are what makes Devon such a beautiful place to visit. We hope to return on a sunny day!

A friendly, welcoming cafe in beautiful Lynton, offering great food at good value. Breakfast for one adult and two children around £15.Disappointed to see sachets of sauce at table, rather than reusable and refill glass bottles as seen in other establishments such as Charlie Fridays in town. Would like to see a more ethical and sustainable alternative next time. 3 stars given for this.

Wonderful establishment serving breakfast, teas and coffee, cream tea and light bites plus take away baguettes. We went in most days of our weeks holiday, apart from Monday when shut for lovely freshly made to order baguettes. Would recommend Ham and Mustard mayonnaise and chicken oh and cheese and salad. We tended to place order and then pop to Costcutter for pop and crisps then go back to collect picnic. Lovely ladies in shop dont know if related but very friendly. Was sad to say goodbye on last day when brought final lunch for journey home. Went to Lundy during holiday and as early start had to make do with the driest thrown together cheese baguett I have ever had for twice as much.

After having a horrible experience at Villa Spaldi, we were recommended to The Picnic Box - what a great place. 2 great coffees (large ones!), a freshly baked scone with jam and cream and a large slice of home made cake - for £10. And the sandwiches we saw being served to other customers looked awesome! All delivered with smiling friendly service. I would definitely recommend The Picnic Box!

As soon as you get off the cable car there are a number of restaurants and cafes to choose from, all very busy. But, if you are after a bit of peace and quiet then just keep left and follow the road 100 yards and you'll come across this lovely tea room which sells the most amazing sandwiches. There is no hot food as i could see but as we only wanted a baguette this was an ideal stop off for us. Our food came out with a side salad and was freshly prepared. Well worth the few extra steps to enjoy

We visited the picnic box at lunchtime with 2 girls under 5. Our visit far exceeded our expectations having looked at menus of other cafes in Lynton. Having sat down the girls were given colouring until the food arrived which they were very happy about! My husband and I shared a coronation chicken baguette followed by a cream tea. The girls had ham & egg sandwich followed by strawberries and shortcake biscuit. Food & Presentation was excellent and very reasonably priced. Service was great and every effort made to make us feel welcome. Can definitely recommend a stop here if visiting Lynton... We will definitely return when visiting again!

First visit today and what a fantastic place. A chilly wind blowing, the Picnic Box was warm and welcoming. We had a late lunch of Pea and Mint Soup for my Dad, piping hot with a very pretty crusty roll, and for me, I had a very tasty cheese and onion baguette served with salad garnish and coleslaw. Just a couple of the items available on the menu, a wide selection of filled baguettes and some hot savouries available including the homemade soup. There is also a breakfast menu, which includes porridge. A good selection of drinks, both hot and cold. No room for cake sadly but without a doubt we will make the Picnic Box a regular place to visit. Prices, the quality of produce and service is excellent. With eat in or take away available. Gluten free very much catered for too.

We visited the Picnic Box twice during our 5 day stay in Lynton. The 2 girls who run the café are very friendly and welcoming and make up whatever you fancy at the front counter, so you can see your order being prepared. They bake their own cakes each day and there is a good selection. They provide takeaway sandwich boxes, which we took advantage of so that we had something to eat (and drink) in the car on the way home. They also cater for special diets e.g. gluten free.

We visited the Picnic Box as part of our weekend away in the Minehead area. We took the Fenicular railway up to Lynton from Lynmouth. The town is very picturesque but it was a very cold day. We came across the Picnic Box and the Windows were steamed up with condensation so we couldn't see what it was like from the outside. We were very warmly greeted by the very enthusiastic sisters that own The Picnic Box. We had the fantastic warm scones with clotted cream and jam. The tea and my coffee both were really good. I would highly recommend the Picnic Box.

Absolutely fantastic. We were given an afternoon tea for a present and Caffyns Farm was the closest for us in Plymouth. The food was amazing, and very generous portions too, we came home with a doggy bag. There's a lovely warm & welcoming atmosphere, all the staff were absolutely lovely and it's very clean and tidy. Only criticism is that the toilets are upstairs (i walk with crutches). They also offer camping facilities and horse riding, not to mention feeding the goats in Goat Cafe lol while admiring the gorgeous views. Thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere nice, chilled and peaceful. Was well worth the 2 hour drive. Will definitely be going back in the future 😊😊
