Excellent place for Sunday lunch

We visited this little gem today for a Sunday roast. I took along my mum, who likes *good* food. In our small party, we had a mix of beetroot, prawn and scotch egg starters - all of which were outrageously tasty. We then all had roast dinners. The portion sizes were decent and the quality is high. The staff were attentive but not fussy. The perfect balance. Needless to say, my mum came out raving, and told me it was one of the best Sunday roasts she has had. We will absolutely return and I urge you to give this place a try if you haven’t already!

We could not fault a single thing. Staff were all very friendly, always there when you need them and not too much. Food was amazing, very fresh and tasty. I'll definitely recommend this place and go back there whenever I'm around. Well done :)

A Sunday Roast like no other! great produce, superbly cooked and good portion sizes. Not much choice with desserts but as the saying goes what you do, do it well and we were not disappointed with the cheesecake. Will definitely be back!

This is such a great restaurant, the food is amazing and the staff are so friendly and welcoming to humans and our furry dog family. My partner had the home made burger meal and he said it was the best burger ever,I had cod and it was delicious and we ordered a bowl of olives which had small gherkins mixed with the olives, delicious. They even brought our dog a bowl of biscuits and bowl of water 🫶🏼 I would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning. Thank you

Jens and Kelly have something very special going at The Pickled Herring. The quality and choice of food is fantastic, and the wine list is reasonably priced too. The service is friendly and efficient, and the whole atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We had the scotch egg, smoked eel, and Tomahawk steak, all of which were delicious! I would highly recommend eating here, and booking is necessary at weekends!

Just love this restaurant, Menu isn’t too big but just enough choice of fish & meat , and always specials on the board. Highly recommend the Sunday Roast, and the bravette steak is also my favourite. Dogs allowed which is always good in broadstairs. Kelly and the staff are very welcoming. Highly recommended

We had an incredible meal at the new pop up here. The crispy chicken skin was INSANELY good, each dish we had was delicious.

Really enjoyed our Sunday lunch here this weekend - everything was perfectly simple and perfectly executed, in a busy setting. Beautiful roast (we had chicken and the beef option) - moist and succulent with generous portions and perfect roasties. A very reasonably priced wine list just added to the enjoyment. Service was great -attentive but not pushy. Would recommend and will be returning!

Really wonderful Friday lunch after a long and stressful week. Entered The Pickled Herring a bit stressed out (no fault of theirs) and within 5 minutes our cares had been washed away. Warm, attentive service and excellent food. Competitively priced and high quality produce .Can't wait to go again. In fact, we're going again on Sunday! Run by a small, local team who really know how to look after you. Highly recommend.

Just had a lovely meal at the opening night of this restaurant in Broadstairs. Will definitely be eating here again. Had beetroot hummus and baked hake. Fabulous host and an amazing chef.

Informal and unpretentious eatery, with focused seasonal menu offering quality ingredients, well executed and flavourful, and reasonably priced too. Also welcomes well behaved dogs. We lucked out in that it was open on a Monday for dinner, unlike many other local eateries. Plus, we found out that quite a few dog friendly places only either served lunch or relegated customers with dogs to bar area and limited to bar food. So, we were happy. The bavette steak was tender, juicy and served with proper chimmichurri. Yum!

Classic decoration and Brilliant service with the sunset. It was my first time to visit broadstairs, I am so glad to experience the vibe of this stylish restaurant in a traditional town, what a pleasant to feel the vibe here, definitely will come back again!

Excellent food, and even better service from Lauren. Well deserved 5 stars. Had the 2 course roast, very filling. Will be back again and again. All washed down with a few beer. Went in for my 2nd visit and wasn't disappointed. Had the excellent value burger and a beer offer. Burger was fantastic, it's a must. Followed by an ice cream dessert. Great serve from the 2 young ladies. Well deserved 5 stars.

A small restaurant with a short menu, all good, some (the pickled herring!) excellent. Good and friendly service, very welcoming, will certainly go again when back in the area.

On the expensive side, my mussels sauce didn't have much flavour or not a flavor I can remember, a few more potatoes as side, please, as I got 5 slices of rosemary potatoes which really is too small portion even for a skinny little person like myself. Service is great. P.S. Thank you for allowing us with our dog!

Amazing restaurant!!! Food was delicious and my kids LOVED the kids menu. In my opinion the best restaurant in Broadstairs. I would 110 percent recommend!!!

I had a fantastic meal with my wife today at this restaurant 5 stars on the food the young lady Lauren who served us was 5 star service I would highly recommend the restaurant to all my friends and the public thanks guys

Great location and staff were nice. Loved our starters and lobster they were delicious. Sadly though after reading reviews we got Tonyhawk steak but this was inedible. Chef cooked it well but was so chewy and flavourless.

Literally incredible! If you haven’t been try it! We’ve just enjoyed a fantastic meal (the veggie tofu kebab was to die for). Service was just as good and the cocktails great too!

Great dining experience at The Pickled Herring. The restaurant itself has great outdoor seating options for a sunny day but also a lovely indoor seating space. The staff members were very welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable on options for gluten free guests. I'd recommend the duck & bavette specials. I would happily go back on my next visit to Broadstairs.

It's a great place, kid friendly and super nice location and food. They have to work on a couple of things, but they do a few things really well too. My least favourite things were the mid-London prices and the beer selection. My favourite thing were, the best pork chop I've had in the UK, ever. And the cleanest bathroom that I've seen in a public place, ever. We were a party of 6 with 3 toddlers (which is arguably a restaurant's staff worst nightmare) and we got served beautifully!!

Sunday roast was great but plates and food could have been hotter!

Fantastic meal & service. Good sized portions. Highly recommended The Ham Hock croquettes for starter & the Pan fried Cod & the Chimichurri Beef Bavette Steak for main. Drinks very reasonable. Well done Lauren, Owen & the Chefs 👨‍🍳 will be back.

Portion of food was tiny even though it was delicious , so bigger portions needed as we were still hungry after leaving. The price we paid for our meal wasn’t reflected in the amount of food that was on our plate . Staff were lovely and very friendly Decor was chic and it was a lovely atmosphere

Had a great meal here. Well thought out menu with some great combinations. My husband had the pickled herring as a starter, which was lovely with a great flavour. He had Sea Bass as a main and it was perfectly cooked. The accompanying broccoli was griddled and served al dente with almonds. He's very particular about his food and loved it all. My peach, serano ham and mozzarella starer was beautiful and the unusual salad that accompanied my main course was sublime. We both finished with lemon posset which was beautifully balanced; coffee was great. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and just right. We will be back!

Small menu, really lovely food and staff but there are only two small wall lights on inside so after a while you're sitting in the dark. They have plenty of lights available but they don't put them on. When we left, we turned to look behind us and it looked closed it was so dark. It's such a shame as its lovely inside and the food artfully presented.

Came across this restaurant by chance, as we were staying in Broadstairs for the week-end and spoke to Tony , who booked us in for later that evening. He assured us that the fish was freshly caught and how passionate they all are about food. They say the proof of the pudding is in the eating and its a 10 out of 10 from us! Good quality food in a relaxed atmosphere ……..friendly service from Molly and the team. Would definitely eat here again and am recommending you try it !

The Pickled Herring, now THAT was one wonderful catch of the day!! Excellent choice of cuts of meat and fish, this restaurant offers exquisite meals with locally sourced ingredients at a reasonable price! Overall, I had a flawless tasting journey and our service from Molly was excellent Highly recommended!

I had high hopes for this place knowing the chef Brendan and the butcher Andy ( chef and butcher ) were part owners of this amazing restaurant and they certainly lived up to my expectation! We had 3 x rib eye steaks all cooked medium, ( as a rib eye should be to marble the fats ) and each were cooked to perfection and that flavour was just sublime! Accompanied with roasted shallots, tomato and al dente veg. Crispy thick cut chips and a rich peppercorn sauce… wonderful. Staff were attentive and all very happy whilst working which is massive tick in the box for me. A lovely setting with views of vibrant Albion street which cements you’re in a great location. Over all experience was amazing, I will recommend to all and I will look forward to heading back to try the lamb!

The food at the pickled herring is wonderful as is the staff and management. Try this great restaurant before the word gets around and you cannot get a table.

Staff are very friendly, and the food is cooked exceptionally. An excellent example of what British gastronomy can be. A must try if you're in Broadstairs!
