Booked this place to take our lovely 92 year old friend as first time since major renovations. The menu appealed to us all. On arrival, we were informed only the items with * were available! Only 5 items. No vegan options. We left - very disappointing as no mention on the website that menus are reduced.

Appalling service no one to check us in the pub was closed - no one answering emergency number had to book somewhere else. Booking for 3 nights and 2 other bookings for two colleagues Complained to bookings as there was a hold on my card and because I cancelled the other bookings said I would be charged ! Couldn’t risk returning after meetings in London and not being able to gain access. Scaffolding was up and the pub was closed and no one made contact to apologise Glad that I could find somewhere locally for us at such short notice Avoid this place at all costs ! It’s not worth being disappointed!

Nate was a great help over the phone before our trip here, which is a pit stop to Wales. In person he was just as helpful as were all staff and we had a superb meal (the burgers are simply spectacular and the best chicken burger we’ve ever had!) comfortable bed and room and the breakfast is VERY good. You won’t be disappointed staying here. Keep up the good work :)

We dropped into The Pheasant quite spontaneously for dinner. We were met at the door by Nate. Friendly, welcoming and couldn’t be anymore helpful. He had a good conversation and people skills. The food was AMAZING! Fantastic flavours, good portion sizes and the cheesecake a delight. The atmosphere, although quite being midweek was lovely with a good choice of music playing. Extremely reasonable pricing. Our son came to join us and the kitchen staff were obliging by whipping up a portion of chips for him! Nate has some great ideas for The Pheasant Inn moving forwards, quiz nights that are becoming more popular, music nights and I thoroughly enjoyed Wine Wednesday!!! We will certainly be back!

I can't pretend that the Pheasant is the nicest pub I have been to but I cannot complain at all about the food or service at all. We were in a big group of around 20 and we were given a private area with all the chairs and tables set out to accommodate us. We pre-ordered our meals which was easy to do and we had a good variety to choose from. The food came out in good time with only a couple of people having to wait a little longer, however considering we were a very large party in comparison to the size of their kitchen I think they did fantastically. All the meals were freshly cooked and very tasty. Our young waitress was fantastic and whilst I think our large group might have intimidated her she did a fantastic job, speedy service with a lovely smile. The pub also has an outside area where the children can play and with seating for the grownups. The pub has a large carpark which for all of our guests was great. If you are looking for an ultra modern slick bar then this isn't for you but if you are looking for a good local boozer with some lovely food and friendly service the Pheasant is the place for you.

Realmente descontentos decidimos no quedarnos. Para ser justos, la cama parecía limpia, pero la habitación era pequeña, la televisión enana, la calle ruidosa y yo no podía tratar con el olor. Caminamos lejos de nuestra reserva.

Working away from home I found this is a light, friendly pub that serve reasonably priced good quality food. The pub shows live football on TV, has a pool table and serves draught Coors lager which is always nice. For starters I had the prawn cocktail and Lincolnshire sausages with mash for main that came with a selection of vegetables, both courses were really good. Guests were asked how their food was whilst they ate, which is always nice. This pub also accepts payment by card, quite common these days I know but not always an option in some pubs. The only suggestion I would make would be to replace the placemats at the tables, I found them a little odd and not really in keeping with what is a reasonably modern feel pub/restaurant, and perhaps change the red napkins for lighter coloured ones instead but that's just my opinion.I'd definitely go back and would recommend.

As a regular patron of this pub, it is both refreshing and long overdue that the owners have finally upped their game and secured the services of an experienced management team, in Andy and Jackie. For too long, there has been a damaging absence of leadership, as a succession of temporary managers have come and gone. As a consequence, the pub lost its identity and authority, to the detriment of customer service and feel good factor. Until now that is.The new team are highly professional and engaging and cannot do enough to enhance the customer experience. They have recovered that missing identity and are clearly passionate about their profession. The sense of community has returned, with the pub now once again a central hub in Winnersh.Well done The Pheasant Inn for the most astute transfer window signing in years.

Winnersh is a small place near Reading - i visited Thames Valley Park and this accomodation was booked by company agent. Small, local Pub, and B&B - staff is more than helpful and polite, Debbie and Alex were names i remember - i am not sure but i think its family owned, i felt almost as at home. The Pub is really nice, usually quiet, sometimes local people watch sport (enjoyed the company and beers more than i should), good choice of drinks and traditional English meals. The hotel is separate building, near pub so its very quiet - i was more than surprised with comfort of bed. The best rest i had for i while. Rooms are very clean. There is a train station , and Sainsbury's approx. 5min walk from Pheasant Inn. Winnersh is a nice, quite and clean place.I would definitively recommend this Pub/Hotel even if is not direct target, its more than nice to spend day/night and get excellent meal and sleep on the way somewhere.

Yesterday I took 6 friends and family for lunch. First part of the drinks order was wrong, we got a half pint of Coke and a pint of bitter which should have been the other way round. We ordered a plate of bread and olives to share as a starter whilst we waited for the mains. Bread arrived reasonably promptly, but after frequent queries to passing waitresses, I asked to speak to the manager, who said that the meals would be coming in 5 minutes and they had wanted to give us time to eat the bread! The mains arrived more than an hour after they were ordered and not a word of apology. My wife and I were regular customers, but will not be going back!

The food was excellent, meat was roasted perfectly, Yorkshire pudding to die for, except... The portions were disappointingly small compared to the usual Sunday roast fare in a pub. The chef did walk round to ask after the food which shows a good level of interest. The pub is dog friendly which always gets an upvote from me. The Pheasant is a proper pub with a good atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and the service is good. However there is often a very scruffy guy who always sits at the end of the bar, he is very rude, loud and often drunk. The guy has a small child with him who plays in the bar area. This really isn’t the place for a child and its sad to see him growing up in a pub.My advice to the owner of the Pheasant would be to ask this guy to leave, it really spoils the atmosphere and I am sure it deters customers from returning.

Family Sunday lunch.Waitress was a nice girl, clearly new but tried hard. Our drinks came individually (up to 5 minutes inbetween each drink being delivered to the table).Main meals were was nice and decent portions. The desserts were nice too (however it was clear the New York cheesecake had been bought from over the road at Sainburys- but as a firm favourite of my husbands, he didnt mind)The only 2 areas to work on: 1) The waitress had a few 'festival bracelets' on which we thought was unhygienic when serving food and 2) The man who arrived to stay in the hotel attached to the pub-The woman who greeted him, walked him throughout restaurant and pointed to the building to which he should go to. We thought it would have been better customer service to walk him over to the building and see him to his room as he was clearly uncertain. Drinks over priced but meal prices were normal for a Sunday and portions exceeded expectations. Not sure we would return as it lacked an atmosphere for us but a nice day out all the same.

We were staying in the adjacent hotel so decided to eat in the restaurant, mistake! Bruschetta was a mass of cherry tomatoes in a curry sauce, very unpleasant. Pate was utterly tasteless. Cottage pie looked ok but turned out to be a chilli mince! We returned it and a while later a proper cottage pie appeared. Mixed grill was tasteless, the chicken looked like it had been boiled and the steak was way overdone. Added to the fact that the "locals" make no effort whatsoever to allow you get to the very cramped bar I would not recommend this "restaurant" to anyone.

From Roast Dinners Around Reading - www.rdrdg.co.ukThis week's roast dinner was chosen by the random number generator. I find this is an excellent approach of running various aspects of my life, particularly where there are plentiful and variable options. For example, when I have too many e-mails at work to answer, I sometimes choose which to answer by random number generator. It means that I don't ignore those really horrid, difficult e-mails - if the random number generator says I have to do it then I do it,I did have a tentative arrangement to go for a roast with a young lady from work so I had a quick look at their website. The website is shocking - it looks like it was made by a 10-year old on meow-meow or whatever the youngsters take now. It was glue in my day. I remember being shown a shocking video at school on glue-sniffing. I hadn't even heard of it as a drug before then. So of course I stole myself some Pritt Stick. Didn't see the fuss though.Anyway, not only was the website shocking but the pictures of the food didn't look appealing. This for example:Perhaps the blur was intentional?Sadly, or perhaps thankfully, my potential accomplice had a hangover less bearable than mine so it was on the train by myself to Winnersh. I was going to overrule the random number generator had she not succumbed to Sunday service.Upon arrival I was instantly struck by the televisions showing some rugby game - ITA vs FRA. I racked my brain to try to work out which teams they were. I assume FRA were Featherstone Rovers, I guess ITA is Ilkley Town but not sure. I don't remember Ilkley Town having a rugby team. They also seemed to have more than 13 men on each team, though this could have been down to the fact that my hangover had not yet arrived. My point being that television and food are not compatible in a dining establishment. The menu which I forgot to photograph was a Mother's Day special. Beef or chicken. Two courses for £12.00 and a free glass of wine for the special lady. I was going to ask if I was wearing a dress, would I get a free glass of wine, but I decided against applying my sense of humour. Not everyone gets my sense of humour. I was in John Lewis the other week, and went up to the vacuum cleaner salesmen and asked if he wanted me to throw the rubbish in my pocket on the floor so he could practice. He aggressively responded "What did you just say?". I was like, "I'm only joking with you.". "No what did you just say to me?".Sometimes I have to keep inside my head what I think is funny. I wish other people wouldn't say everything that comes to their mind either. Especially on a Monday morning. But sometimes though in life you do need to have a sense of humour.Anyway, I ordered the beef and it arrived exactly 9 minutes later, whilst in the middle of reading an article on how gentrification of Washington is not necessarily a bad thing. Hug your hipster was the conclusion. The carrots were cold. I had a few but I didn't finish them. This is the first time on one of these reviews that I have left anything other than bone. The green beans were comparable to eating plastic straws. I had a few but left the rest of them.Given the shocking vegetables, clearly the worst vegetables that I have come across so far, perhaps ever in my life, I was curiously pleased to see that the roast potatoes were actually roasted.About 5 hours beforehand.Yes they were boiling hot and soggy, yet with a crispy outer edge. One assumes the microwave found plenty of water molecules in the potato, and none in the vegetables. Can you guess where this review is heading? The Yorkshire pudding was a filled-in kind of sponge. There was no redeeming feature - the taste was exceptionally bland. Ooh we had a parsnip. Quite tasty but floppy.I left the beef until last and I guess it was the best bit. Which is kind of like saying that the drugs at hospital are the best bit about being stabbed. Not that I have ever been stabbed, though I was threatened a few times growing up in Hull - including the first week at primary school, aged 5.Bad was the beef - as bad as the linguistic quality that begins this paragraph. Far too well-cooked, with plenty of gristle and fat. It was crapo. I did mean to write the word 'crap' but I actually think crapo is more effective in this case, so I have not corrected it. I always think of new ideas for blogs, I think one day I am going to do a blog called "Tapas Or Crapas", but given the shortage of tapas restaurants in the area it would probably need to be a UK-wide blog, or maybe for when I move to London like I have been threatening to do for the last 10 years. And only after I have gone through my Spanish cook-book bought for my birthday by my aforementioned work friend. I have spent more time talking about me than the roast haven't I?I guess I should mention the gravy. It was probably Bisto. Lumpy Bisto. So this was the worst roast dinner I have reviewed. But I really enjoyed it in a "I am really going to enjoy writing about this" kind of way. The whole dining experience actually got even more impressive, as the gentleman on the table next to me returned his starter for having mould on it. I am going to increase the score a fraction just for having the balls to serve mouldy bread. The woman cooking did come over and offer not to charge them for it.I was silently in hysterics. I thought it was absolutely brilliant.Thankfully my mum lives 220 miles away as she would not have been impressed with this "Mother's Day Special". It kind of reminds me of the time my grandma took the family out to this crappy, sorry, crapo chain pub for Christmas Day once and the dinner was atrocious. But it was so crapo that it was funny. My mother told me that I was not allowed to tell my grandma what I thought of it. All of my family were like "oh that was really nice, thanks ever so much", despite leaving half of it on their plates.I told her the truth. Thank you ever so much grandma, but it was awful. Can I cook next time? They actually let me cook the sprouts now.I'm going to give it a 1.2 out of 10. Mainly for the mouldy bread treat and the really attractive young lady behind the bar as the food had absolutely no redeeming features. Inedible Reading where are you?On the way home I popped into the Lyndhurst to watch my friend eat a far better roast dinner - which is on my list to re-review as the chef there seems to be doing wonders, and the original review isn't really applicable now.I'm going to finish this special review with the first (and possibly last) of a new musical feature.I wonder if I can fit it into my next DJ set? Gosh that was a tenuous way to promote. Please don't go, don't gooooooo, I'm begging you to stay. And eat gravay. Don't gooooo owoah owoah. Just don't go. Please don't go. Don't sniff glue. Just don't, owooooooahn't. Just don't go. Or sniff glue.Next Sunday I am going somewhere good.

The pheasant pub has recently changed owners. Gone is the poncey pretentious atmosphere and the italian menu. The pub now has pubgoers fare such as burgers chips and jacket potatoes. For meat eaters there is also steak, and for anyone there is home made cake. There is also a b&b and a beer garden. There is also some tv which on the night I visited was tuned to sport.I am glad its a proper pub again, though I will be giving the sport a miss.

Arrived quite late after a day at the Spa greeted by a lovely young lady who dealt with us promptly.Negative was that we did drive past as the sign is not clearly lit as looks like solar lighting and no sunshine due Room was cluttered with too much furniture but was clean, comfortable and quiet. Bedding should just be white no trimmings. Loose the decorative pillows too Breakfast was in the pub lovely tasty breakfast served by pleasant ladies. Table could have done with being wiped and lots of clutter around with nice touches of fresh flowers but lost amongst the clutter.Probably wouldn't stay again.

This has a reputation as a "white van man" pub.... Nothing evident to challenge that status... Walked past a group of lads smoking weed in the garden then they came in standing on the bar stools as the ONE barmaid/waitress ran around getting them munchies. No greeting to me and my friends and a 10 minute wait for eye contact at the bar.I am told people rave about this place... I won't be going back.

Had not been here for a while. Obviously has had a change of ownership since Roberto. It is now more like the waiting area of a pizza take away. Poor! Needs to improve before I take my family there again.

We went here for lunch today. We were pleased with the overall experience. The food was of good quality. In particular, the pizza and sticky toffee pudding were outstanding. The pub itself is warm and welcoming. The service was excellent. This was our first time but we would not hesitate to come back here or recommend this place.

We enjoyed the meal at our local pub - the food was well presented, good sized portions at a fair price. The service was attentive and friendly. Recommended for locals and those visiting the area!

Brought my son here tonight for a birthday meal . Had been previously on various occasions with friends and had recommended it to him. Tonight we were thoroughly disappointed! The service was dreadful. From ordering our meal , they brought the wrong drinks , the starter came without the balsamic and oil! My sons green veg consisted of potatoes, carrots and green beans! And we waited 30 mins for the desert menu . The waiting staff were pleasant enough, just forgetful!

Having eaten here when Roberto and Luanne were running the pub I thought a pleasant meal was ahead. Starters was mushrooms in garlic think they should rename it garlic with mushrooms!! Pasta for the mains with chicken and pancetta in sauce chicken much reminded me of an eraser of the five eating only one finished their meal. The whole time eating we had to endure the manager at our table on more than one occasion for no particular reason, yes it's nice to be asked if all is ok but once is enough. We asked for the bill which amazingly took 10 whole minutes to produce this was 4 barstaff and the manager unbelievable. Don't think we will be going back anytime soon.

Nice atmosphere Food was average nothing special but cooked ok and edible, prices are a bit high given the overall quality and service and some of the choices were not available even though on the specials board, it's not hard to rub out what you don't have!Service was on the slow side but not terrible.Toilets really let the place down they are typical old school mens pub toilets damp and disgusting

Although we live close by we had never visited the Pheasant Inn before. We arrived and were shown to a table and given menus. Our order was taken promptly and the starters arrived fairly quickly. The food was extremely good and well presented. We both felt very satisfied with the quality and quantity. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We shall certainly be going back again.

I visited with a couple of friends for a catch up. It is located on the main road with a car park at rear and some spaces at the front including some cycle parking spots.Inside it is a mix of restaurant dining as well as a traditional pub with TV's and outside smoking/seating area. The toilets are worth using as an experience getting to them.Overall quite quirky and fun.

A last minute decision at 8:00pm on a Saturday night to eat out and the thought that most places would be fully booked prompted a call to the Pheasant to see if they had any tables for two available. Having not been there before and being advised that they could fit us in we thought that we had been lucky and duly arrived at 8:30pm. To our surprise there were only two other diners in the restaurant and four rather noisy locals at the bar.Having taken a seat at a table, menus were swiftly produced and upon request a wine list was provided. The wine list was rather limited but a reasonable bottle of Merlot was ordered at £15.00. The food menu is also rather limited for choice, which is not always a bad thing as trying to do too much can also try the ability of the kitchen. The food order was taken of Scallops and Mushrooms with a gorgonzola sauce followed by two mains of Mussels in white wine and cream sauce. The starters were served on cold plates which had reduced the temperature of the scallops down to luke warm by the time they had reached the table and were rather disappointing. By this time the other two diners had left and we were now alone apart from the rowdy crowd by the bar. Another couple arrived just for drinks and they sat in the restaurant area to get away from the bar.The mussels at £16.00 a plate were good but very expensive for what they were. With the waitress having now cleared the table we were then ignored whilst the staff talked amongst themselves, but eventually managed to get their attention and ask for the bill. Having got the bill and being ignored again after a while we went to the bar and paid. Maybe that is what you are expected to do?The meal was very expensive and only average. It is a pub first and a restaurant second and it shows.

Rather than getting takeaway pizza for the family we decided to eat in at the Pheasant Inn as we live nearby. The Pizza's were great and had the largest quantity of toppings I have ever seen on a Pizza. We could not finish and the left over's were put in box for us to take home. We have eaten here a number of times and reading the recent reports the quality can be a bit temperamental. We have always had good food and we eat out a lot in Italy so know how passionate the Italians are about food. Come on Roberto and Luana where has this passion gone! I do agree with one of the comments that "Real Ales" is advertised out side and they only had "Doombar" which is OK. I would expect "Ales" to mean more than one commercial branch. There are so many small brewery's around one or two more would be good. Also the decor is a bit pub rather than Italian restaurant. A few table cloths and set places with candles would help.

So after everywhere was fully booked me and my partner were passing by and having previously been recommended and thought it looked nice from the outside we went in and tried it. We got seated straight away (layout was a bit like a school dining room) drinks order taken immediately ... Very timid waited came and took our food order promptly no manners or smile. Food came in 10 mins v impressed but immediate thoughts was pre cooked. Partners beef from roast was tough but was ok. I ordered king prawn asparagus and crab risotto, where do I begin.. Rice was hard, no starchy texture like a risotto should, LOADS of asparagus 3 prawns and NO CRAB. Tried to eat it but after my teeth were full of hard rice and 7/10 mins later when we got asked if food was ok I said not really I complained said I wasn't paying and told my reasons I had no apology and she walked off. 5 mins later returned and just took my plate away. My partner asked for the bill and it came back with the risotto on she said nothing about it being taken off or left on there.. It was still on the bill. When she came to take payment I mentioned it and she said in the most rudest tone of voice you have to pay.. I said I don't have to pay for anything I said my food was awful explained my reasons again. She just replied ' if you don't pay I will call the police'... Absolutely shocking!!! In the end we left the appropriate money and walked out.. All I can say is thankgod we wasn't a old civilised couple being threatened by the police! DO NOT GO

Having read several raving reviews we decided to pop round for dinner. Food is ok pub style but not spectacular. We went on Friday night and there were 5-6 tables @ 8pm. Still a bit buffled how chef is only to replace with fried egg but not poached egg. Staff were friendly.

Ate here with 5 friends. Atmosphere was good, busy no loud music so able to have a good gossip. Food was good but seemed quite expensive, it was well cooked and tasty. Difficult to comment on portions as plates were enormous, ridiculously oversized so made the portions seem quite small, though for the group of girls I was with we had enough, not sure my husband would agree if he had been on the night out.

Stopped here on a whim on out way back from soft play with the kids. Real ale was not well maintained and had bits floating on it. This beer normally does not, suggesting inadequate maintenance on their pipes. They have a limited menu. Ordered the burger, cooked rare. It came with cold chips. Sent it back and it came back with hot chips. Bit into the burger and it was dry and over done. Generally a total let down. I would not recommend and would definitely not go back.

I have been here before and have found the food OK, although the portions are small for the money paid. But this time it was a very disappointing meal with friends. I cannot believe how much I paid for such a poor culinary experience. The food is overpriced anyway, but when it is overpriced and seemingly cooked by someone with minimal cooking skills, it makes for a waste of time and money. I do not think I have ever eaten a more tasteless pasta dish. The sauce was just over cooked tinned tomatoes. I certainly didn't need the spoon I was given and the ravioli filling didn't resemble meat, it looked like refried beans and had a weird smoked bacon taste. I think supermarket ravioli is far superior. My companions chips were awful, tasted liked they had been sitting around a while and then put in the fryer to heat up before serving. I have a feeling the usual chef has left.

I only live round the corner and have never frequented here until the other night when we ended up in here because the George was full. Had a lovely meal. Our party had fish and chips and lasagne. The food at Pheasant seems to have been in the process of re-inventing itself recently and we'd thought we'd give it a go. I must say it has the most excellent home cooked Italian food and is reasonably priced. Comfortable atmosphere and our guests were very happy and we felt well cared for. Two of us were vegetarians and one was on a low GI diet. We all found good food to eat.

Please do not go to this restaurant if you want a vegan meal as I was only offered a plate of vegetables. When I stated that the menu said vegan options available I was told that there weren’t any. Can’t comment as to the quality of the food as I had to cancel my booking. They are not great at responding to emails or ringing back when they said they would.

Good friendly service. Quality ingredients in the breakfast. The table was not cleaned properly, it wasn't very busy and the table had been prepared when we arrived but there were blobs on ketchup on the table breakfast was served on a skillet but was only warm at best. Tea should be served in a pot not a tea bag in a mug of water

We came here for our wedding anniversary. It was our first time as the high prices have put us off, but as it was a special occasion, we thought we'd give it a try. Given the reviews and high prices, our expectations were high. Sadly those expectations were misplaced. The food was lovely and the service was friendly. But the service was slow. Our booking was for 8pm. We didn't get our main course until just before 10pm. They said it was because they were busy. If they cannot keep up with the number of tables they have on offer then they should operate as a smaller restaurant or get more staff. Otherwise everything was nice. I just cannot fathom how they can charge so much. For that price I expect to be wowed, not just nice. Rossinis is more reasonable, food just as good, service is quicker. We would only go back if they started charging more normal prices.

A nice venue with friendly staff. The coffee was quite good, but the "fish finger ciabatta" was disappointing - soggy fish fingers didn't help. We visited due to the reviews, so maybe others have had a better experience, but a restaurant is "only as good as its last performance" so we wouldn't return as consistency is vital
