Coppa Club in Wokingham

Booked an igloo so knew there was a 2 hour time slot. Service was very slow and we only managed a main course in the allocated time. Would have ordered desert but concerned that it would be rushed, we did check this with our waiter. Took so long to return for our order we decided to leave. There were either not enough staff or they seemed uninterested, a shame as the food that had was OK and the venue nice. Disappointing to see other similar reviews have been made.

Popped in for cocktails. Very nice ambiance, drinks were lovely and service to our table, which makes a change. The only challenge was we found the bar really cold, so we left early with hands like blocks of ice ⛄️

Wonderful sitting in one of those pod's next to the Thames, food was lovely, as was the service, not a lot of choice of beers, wine and cider okay though, great place for my birthday,

Lovely restaurant with a great ambience in a superb location. The best thing about this place was the igloo - nice and cosy offering a warm cocoon for your dining experience. (Each igloo sits 8, has a heater, and multiple blankets). However, the igloos must be given up in an hour so if looking for a longer cosier experience, I'd advice you to just book in the main restaurant. Best thing about this restaurant for me? The crudités, particularly the beetroot hummus. It's so good that as far as I'm concerned, just that beetroot hummus is worth the trip to Sonning.

Customer service is poor, questionable hygiene. Experience definitely wasn’t worth the price paid.

Absolutely a brilliant pub/restaurant. Service was impeccable and the food was worth the money. I went very early evening and the atmosphere was still quite homely in areas and lovely and peaceful un the rest of the restaurant.

The food and service are good, but the views are what make this place worth a visit, so get a terrace table. A negative for some will be that the house music is rather loud, causing people to talk loudly. If possible book one of the outside "igloos", (actually well equipped plastic domes, checkout the website) so you can create your own atmosphere.

The Great House in Sonning has everything needed for a smooth organising and holding an impressive and enjoyable event. We hired two event rooms for a lunch to celebrate 50th birthday with over 20 guests. All personnel was very helpful and professional. Special thanks to Emily, the event manager on the day, and her colleagues, whom nothing was too much trouble and orchestrated seamless running of the event with smile on her face. All guests commented on the beautiful setting of the Great House and sophisticated indoor and outdoor space and amazing 3 couse food of their choice. Personally, you serve the best steak I've ever had. Thank you for a memorable day and we look forward having an excuse to visit again.

Unfortunately it was hammering down with rain on the night we arrived to eat in one of the pods. However the pod was nice and cosy and the service was very good. The food was good but nothing special and it was disappointing to see the waiting staff carrying the food out from the pub to the pod in the garden with no covers. Large umbrellas would be a good investment to allow the food to be brought out under cover. I have experienced this pod style of eating out before in Swansea and the staff there had the food service down to a t. They had plastic bell shaped covers for each meal to ensure that the food was kept hot and unaffected by the elements,and it meant that the food was delivered to the table as ordered. I enjoyed the evening and would return again, hopefully in better weather conditions!!!

A bit of a victim of its success. Always packed and seemingly understaffed. Food is OK if you can order and cocktails/drinks are overall good. The Streatley one is generally better if you want a riverside venue.

Very good restaurant with an energizing ambience and multiple seating options. Please not reservation is required for outside seating ( is what we were told) Ensure that you check in your car during entry. They have done a good job at putting in enough reminders as well as you enter and even in washroom. Pros + good food + helpful staff (understood our vegetarian requirements well) + nice ambience + comfortable seating + ample parking + food didn't take a long time to come even during rush hour Cons - limited vegetarian options - slow service (we had to ask for an additional plate thrice for daughter) - slightly congested during weekends

Great laid back vibe, Barman Dave made the best Old fashioned 😁😁😁🥂 staff always seem happy and friendly. BedRooms are warm and Comfortable and very reasonably priced. Great for weekend get away, great river side walks (when not in flood😗) cannot recommend enough.

Avoid like the plague! I live locally and have spent a lot of money here over the years. No complaints about the food, bar and waiting staff, but the current management and online experience leave a lot to be desired. My query, sent via their website contact page, was completely ignored and when I went in to follow it up in person a couple of weeks later, the manager, who was sitting at her laptop in the bar, not 20 feet from me, didn't even have the courtesy to get up and speak to me in person, preferring instead to relay a message to me via the young barmaid who was very polite and apologetic. I shall not be returning or recommending the Coppa to friends.

I chose to meet with business colleagues 28/2/24 as the club is an ideal location for us all. However, I’ve now received a £100 fine for the pleasure of using the car park. No staff informed me or my colleagues about parking arrangements and signage is not obvious at all (it was dark and raining). Such a shame as the club can be a great place for meeting friends and colleagues.

I have an elderly friend who booked us both . She is hard of hearing. We asked for a table in the booths but were told we had to be a table of four. There were three booths free. We were given a two seater rocky table which we remedied. Within a few minutes the booths were filled with two couples and a single man. My friend asked for a glass of Chardonnay and was told she had to buy the bottle . We had take everything off our table including the wine and put it on the seat next to me as there wasn't enough room for the food. I ordered a steak which was so chewy I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it . I had to remind the waitress for the ketchup twice. The bill a shock that the wine was £58 on the bill. We won't be visiting again. The food portion are very small for the prices charged

Came in for a work/birthday lunch. Is in a perfect setting. Really lovely place to eat, with a great ambience. If you want to feel like you’re going somewhere special, this is the place!

I came for dinner with my husband the first night of our stay at the Great House. Waiting staff member Soufiane was particularly helpful when I asked to adapt vegan menu item combinations, generally friendly and responsive. Very happy. Thank you!

A nice experience. We sat in the conservatory area facing the river. Outside there were domes where you could sit and eat too. That was interesting, and would love to sit there if we visit next. Food was great, I had the prawn and fish cake. The others liked the food too. Skinny fries are just mere french fries. Could have said that. But it was presented nicely The staff was friendly and the service was efficient.

Could have been better service as they didn’t allow us to sit in the bubble domes outside as they said it requires advance pre booking which is disappointing.

Cuppa Club, Sonning was a great experience. I went out there with my friend for lunch, we both felt a bit peckish and not hungry hence ordered 4 dishes from the sides and the starters menu. Paddron Pepper's are a must try. We also had a glass of wine each. The staff was friendly and cheerful. They even went an extra mile to ask the kitchen if one of the sharer plates could be made vegan, however, unsuccessfully as they didn't have any vegan alternative for Halloumi. They also had the bubble looking pods in their outside garden facing the river. However, even when they were not in use, it was a bit disappointing to know that they have to be pre booked and not given to the walk-in customers.

Whilst this is a great restaurant the parking restrictions are a nightmare. We got a £100 parking fine when we went there in Feb. The restaurant didn't inform us and we didn't see any obvious signs.

AVOID THIS PLACE! DISGUSTING APPROACH TO CAR PARKING POLICY!Absolutely scandalous, at no point was I informed of a change in parking policy by any memebr of staff and I did not see any signage despite 'how obvious' it may have been. Given this is a change in parking policy I would recommend staff advise all customers as this leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Loved the ambience and service. Enjoyed a cheeky cocktail with my friend. Even though they didn't have the cocktail I wanted on the menu, they made it for me. It was a whiskey sour and it was delicious! Would definitely go back again 😊

Our visit started well, we were greeted on entry & taken straight to our reserved table. We were given water almost straight away & our drinks order was taken promptly. We weren’t quite ready to order our food, so the waitress said she’d be back in a few minutes, but we then had a long wait before she came back. The food was just ok, it certainly did not match the price we paid. The service just wasn’t that great either unfortunately. Once we all had our food, no one came to check on us, no offer of more drinks, we felt like we’d been forgotten about. Once our meals were finished our plates were sat in front of us for quite a while. When they were taken away the bowls for the fries were left behind. We decided to get the bill & leave feeling rather underwhelmed.

A cosy and elegant place to celebrate, relax and enjoy any moment of your life. Me and all my friends absolutely love this unique Restaurant and pub as it’s located in a fantastic location with kind and knowledgeable staff. They are really kind and friendly. Highly recommended

Disappointed with the menu, I chose the spicy pizza, it was excellent probably the best I've had in the last year, my wife had the carbonara which was also excellent (I tried it,😉) freshly made pasta and a authentic Italian egg based carbonara.

Very good service and nice staff

I enjoyed the food and it's a lovely building with pretty views of the river. Nice and warm too! The staff were all very friendly and helpful and nice. It was a bit more casual than I expected though, judging by the attire of some of the other guests. There were also quite a few very young children there crying, which was distracting.

The lady at the front desk who seated us was lovely , sadly everything went downhill from there. In an empty restaurant we waited 15 minutes to be offered a drink, which we received after our starters. The food was dull and overpriced. The staff didn’t use a try to deliver drinks they just carried them loosely. No check back on starters or mains, left with empty plates in front of us for a very long time. Not offered desert menus , had to go to the bar to ask for more drinks and the bill! The table was sticky and other tables around us did not get cleared for the duration of our visit. I have never had such poor service in such an empty restaurant.

Had a quick drink with friends so had no food, when you park your car you are requested to log your car's registration number when you enter the restaurant 😉

Met a friend and had a lovely lunch in the waterfront igloo. Young man served us who had worked for them for about 6years. He seemed surprised we were in the igloo as it was under a foot of water the previous week! He gave really good feedback, the food was lovely, he recommended the mushroom pizza and it was fabulous!

Another fab meal at the Coppa Club in Sonning on Sunday, with the added bonus of live music, amazing cocktails and a super wine list. Thanks, see you again soon.

Beware! - they do not understand the UK Licencing laws! 16-17 year olds CAN drink wine, beer or cider WITH a meal IF purchased by an adult! Staff remove drink from our table, when our 19 year old son drank it. Rely: YOU are missing the Point! ID over 25 relates to purchasing drinks, NOT consuming. Learn the law, before commenting.

Mark Simmons please take this on board.I live very locally and often visits the Coppa club and have done for many years.I have eaten at the club many many times.I agree with the reviews about he food….it really is not good.My chicken was dry over cooked and tasteless.The steak was also over cooked and tasteless. If you do not remove the chef soonest I can see you loosing a lot of business this year.The Bull is having a new Kitchen installed as I type this and putting out a new menu.I can see where your customers will be going….they will talk with their feet. The Coppa Club is a lovely place with great staff………it’s just the food I’m afraid Mark…it’s turning into a Faulty Towers restaurant…minus the rat.

Booked for my 16 year old daughter’s birthday meal. Restaurant was cold so asked to turn up heating. We weren’t the only ones who complained. Kids sat there in their coats. Burrata was sent back for starter - was rubbery, sour and curdled but was told that is what Burrata is like!! Having had a few in my time, if the chef thinks that’s normal then who are you employing?! Second one was better. All other fried starters were completely over cooked. Main course.. chicken Milanese - guess what. Overcooked and chewy with no taste. Carbonara equally tasteless. Burger was so soggy it fell apart. Waiting staff were friendly but no offer of condiments and had to ask for condiments. Wish I had read the reviews before we went. Used to be good but word to management… when you have this many bad reviews it’s time to rethink your kitchen staff before you lose all your trade!! It wasn’t even busy tonight so really no excuse. We won’t be back…

Went here at 2pm and booked an outside pod. Weather not great but still lovely and felt sorry for the serving staff traipsing in and out through the rain (who remained friendly throughout). We had starters main and puddings plus coffee and modest drinks. Approx £50/ head but you can see prices on the menu. Eating out is expensive but, for a special occasion, it was very nice and enjoyable. I've also eaten at the Streatley venue which is very similar.

Mediocre. Pleasant location. Although view of the River is best enjoyed from the closest ‘igloo’ towards the end of the garden. Igloo was not sufficiently warm. One small heater. Although, plentiful blankets. Table was dirty. Food particles and remnants on it. Igloo felt worn out. Waitress opened the wrong door. Created a draft on one side. Took some force to move that door back. Main door could be labelled to prevent this. Nice ambience inside igloo though with lighting and music. Path to igloo was treacherous. Stone slabs that move and are insufficiently secured. Do not appear to have a non-slip treatment on them so please be careful how you tread. Perhaps the igloos would be better enjoyed in summer. Indoors seemed pleasant. A number of fire places. We stood at that arrival desk for several minutes before being seated. Many staff appeared busy. A good opportunity to register your car/motorbike to authorise parking. Service could have been better. Again, left for 10 minutes as it was “assumed” more people would be joining us. No buzzer system in the igloo so hard to flag down service. The food was okay. Nothing special. It was raining. Food was not covered with a cloche as some other restaurants tend to do when serving food outdoors. Similar, with drinks. Served in mugs and not a teapot. So, rain flavoured tea was the order of the day.

1-star for the discretionary fee. 4 stars otherwise. It is a lovely busy place and the waiters are extremely kind and polite but from our perspective there were multiple things wrong that are not related to the waiters but the management: - we asked for the dog water multiple times - we were asked for tomato sauce but it never came - the car park is not painted for wide cars, you will struggle to get in your cars because of that - the drinks came after 20 minutes, the food after 30 minutes. We were seated at 16:15 and started eating at 16:50 - the floor of the dome was already dirty, I know it’s not easy to keep it tidy but when you have a rule that says that you need to spend a minimum of £25 to be in the dome you expect a better standard. There was a glass on the table as well. We arrived 15 minutes late so it should had been enough time to get it ready. - the tiles to get to the dome are not fit for high heels. They are a problem for people on heels and perhaps drunk - the 12.5% discretionary fee puts me off every time. We reduced to 5% for bad experience but for me I always inclined to reduce it to 0% because it’s automatic. If your staff is not paid enough put the prices even higher and do something about all the points I mentioned You do have quantity but no focus on quality. We spent £130 for 4 people. Why are the managers the problem? I don’t know the revenue, profits, overhead, etc. but it should be about the people. If that means higher prices, you might get better clients, but if you don’t train and treat your staff with respect (including not overworking them and decent wages) you will get something like this. As a client, I am not responsible to pay tips to your staff. You pay them good wages and forget about automatic fees.

Excellent hotel. Our room was a river view, lovely bay window. Bathroom huge. Pleasant atmosphere in bar and restaurant. Food priced sort of bang on for what you get. Only slight thing. Bar staff need to be a bit more on the ball when guests are queuing up,and have a bit more charisma . That said ,the room was worth far more than we paid ,and the hotel is lovely.

We have just finished a meal and are very disappointed with our experience at the restaurant. We booked an igloo as we do every Christmas and previously have had great experiences. Tonight’s experience couldn’t be further from the last! We sat in the bar having a drink before our table was ready and had to ask for our table (after being told they would come and get us when it was ready) starters were fine, main courses were a shambles. Two mains (the prawn linguine) were full of shell and the pasta was overcooked and mushy. Two diners asked for some sauces for their burgers which took half an hour to arrive by which time the burgers were cold. We ordered desserts which came apart from one hot drink which arrived quite some time after and was slammed down on the table with a mutter from the waitress (not the one serving us) Our waitress was friendly but they looked understaffed. It wasn’t even busy. We asked for our bill which didn’t arrive after nearly an hour so we ended up going inside to get it. Staff inside weren’t friendly and seemed to be rushing everyone out. Music was turned off and lights turned up. Not the best festive get together!

Sat in an igloo outside which was nice but feel the igloo was a bit run down. Food came. Service was good. Unfortunately my meal was cold and greasy and the chicken was not the nicest.

Disappointing service - was shocked at how inconsiderate staff were. Visited with some friends who cannot eat egg. None of the main desserts were eggless but they did have an eggless dessert as part of a set menu though they (including the manager) refused to serve this without getting a starter and main - despite the fact we’d spent a considerable amount on our meals. We all skipped dessert as a result, left with a sour taste in our mouth and won’t be coming back, nor recommending to anyone else. The food itself was reasonable hence not 1 star.

Always a nice place to visit within a stones throw of the Thames path in the quiet picturesque village of Sonning. Plenty of parking but busy at peak times. Generally best for breakfast and lunch times but the evening meals are limited to the lunch menu. Nice country atmosphere with comfortable sofas away from the food areas for drinks. Would recommend. Easy access for wheel chairs and buggies. Please like if this helped.

Hotel rooms look lovely, but they are small and nowhere to put a suitcase off the dirty looking carpets. Who knows what might creep in. Dirty towels in bathroom. Flickering bed lights giving me a headache and the rooms looking over the car park are hot, there is a security light shining in and its noisy including staff loudly talking in car park until 11pm. I waited 30 mins in the quiet restaurant, and I was ignored, eventually leaving for the local pub. Uncomfortable bed. Terrible service hiding behind trendy decor. Positives are amazing shower and very polite receptionist in morning.
