Somewhat disappointing. Food quite good but the lamb dish in particular fell far short of it should have been. There was too much mash potato and enough gravy for 4 or 5 dishes: at least put it in a sauce boat? The lamb itself was tasty but not a great cut, with too much having to be trimmed off. The menu was varied and the service good ... it was just that the food was not quite up to scratch.

Had lunch yesterday with friends. Lovely traditional pub with old fashioned cubicles giving privacy. It was decorated for Halloween and the table decorations were fab, woth old fashioned Victorian photos which changed into skeletons when moved😀 I had small open prawn sandwich, others had cibatta with chicken and cheese and soup of the day, everyone agreed the food was delicious. Service was very quick and friendly, and we bought a loaf of their delicious home made wheaten bread. Recommended, and in a beautiful part of the world

This used to be a weekly visit for me but since covid I have not been as often which is just as well as I would be bankrupt! It is way overpriced for what you get and although the food is very nice, portion size is not that big for main meals. The front of house is managed by a gentleman who can only be described as charmless. No greeting when we went in and was too busy speaking to staff to fully engage with me when I was confirming my booking. No interaction either when dining and only smiled handing over bill, which is not surprising considering how much it was! It used to be a lovely girl called Janet who managed and she knew how to meet and greet customers. I don’t think we will be back!

I recently dined at The Pheasant Inn in Hillsborough and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a cozy meal. The menu offered a great selection of delicious dishes, and I was particularly impressed with the quality of the ingredients. The staff were attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed. My only minor critique would be the wait time for our food, which was a bit longer than expected. However, the taste and presentation of the dishes made it worth the wait. Overall, The Pheasant Inn is a charming spot with a delightful dining experience, and I would definitely recommend it to others!

Fantastic Sunday dinner with our family. My son said he had the best crispy duck in his life, his whole 16 years;). The young lad taking orders told me the sugar pit cured bacon was sold out, but they could replace with roast pork belly; it was absolutely scrumptious. Nice staff, homey pub, wish I could have come here more often when I was younger.

We had heard many great reviews about the Pheasant recently so booked a table for Saturday evening to see if the recent growing hype lived up to expectation - and it really did! The restaurant was very busy with a lovely, buzzing atmosphere. Although busy if was evident that the staff were all working very hard and provided really good service! We had the tandoori prawns and pate on toast for starters - both delicious but the tandoori prawns get a special mention! For main course we had a T-bone steak and pork steak - again the food was honestly some of the best we have had in a long time. We finished off with salted caramel baileys cheesecake for dessert and although both extremely full - we cleared the plate! A top notch meal! The Pheasant is definitely worthy of its number 1 spot in Hillsborough on Tripadvisor!

Have been there many times. Very nice restaurant. The service is also very good. I like it as the disks are never too salty or spicy, which keeps the flavour of food. There is a large car park. It even provides drive-in takeaways. The only minor thing is the location, which is beside a small road. Probably it is more famous at local. Otherwise, one might only find it by searching on Google maps, like me. But once there, it never disappoints you.

Outstanding food! I didn’t particularly have any expectations before eating at this restaurant - in the area for a wedding tomorrow and just ticking practical box by eating out. To say we were impressed is an understatement - my wife and I were blown away with the quality and taste from the first bite. Had the lamb burger and cod - I’m doing both an utter disservice in providing no description - suffice to say easily one of our best experiences out. Most mains between £20 and £25 - beyond good value for how sensational all aspects of the food were - would happily pay more. Great welcoming atmosphere provided by staff and proprietor. Whenever back in NI, we’ll absolutely be visiting again.

We walked in exceptionally hungry after a long day and ordered 5 starters to share (between the 2 of us) and left absolutely stuffed. I highly recommend the pork belly bao buns and the Irish roast chicken with asparagus and tarragon sauce. But everything we had was delicious. The interior space is charming with an old world authentic pub feel. We were so happy with our meal, we went back a second night and enjoyed it just as much!

Been here b4 and food was ex. This visit our party were not impressed. Steaks were very gristle, roast potatoe was bit hard. I didn't get my veg but an ex serving of veg was ordered so not sure if that was mine to. 1 dessert was ordered, came with wrong ice cream on it. The total cost for 4 meals, 1 share starter and 1 dessert and soft drinks was very expensive. This experience has put me off returning. Didn't want to cause a scene so didn't complain.

Can't recommend this place highly enough! Husband grown up daughter and I had the most delicious lunch, and what a beautiful traditional pub. Lovely lady served us, we went for slightly lighter options as it was lunch time, I had a small open prawn sandwich which came with the most tasty wheaten bread I've ever tasted. Husband and daughter had the cabetta of the day which was tender chicken in a sweet sauce with cheese, side salad and dips. Nicest lunch we had for a long time and we eat out often! I was cheeky and asked if it would be possible to buy some of the yum wheaten bread and was brought a large loaf which they charged a very reasonable price for. Recommending to all my friends and we will definitely be back.

We had such a really enjoyable Sunday lunch ! We had booked for 1 15pm and the restaurant was extremely busy on arrival but that didnt deter the very efficient staff under the guidance of Emily, the restaurant manager from providing a first class service. The food was well presented , tasty and served in just about the right amount of time ,especially when the kitchen was so busy and all with with a nice smile and a word. Even though it was very busy we were never rushed and it seemed important we enjoyed ourselves which I think is key. Parking very easy and relaxed ambience . .

Restaurant very noisy, a kids play area would be quieter. Given a table in the middle of young kids even though when booking I’d made it known this was a special dinner. Yes young kids need to eat too. Food was poor, pheasant tasted of pepper and was really tough. Mash and cabbage were swimming in pepper gravy. Roasts were swimming in gravy and bugger looked like something from a greasy spoon with a mediocre portion of chips. Dessert was minuscule and options very limited. It took 3 attempts to get a clean spoon to eat the dessert. Staff are all young and inexperienced in dealing with requests. Best avoided, especially on a Sunday around 6pm. Don’t go hungry or prepare to pass mc Donald’s on the way home.

Had to ask servicer to remove it from the bill. The waitress I had asked for the tea walked past us 3 times as if we never Ordered this. Pity the service isn't great, because the food is 1st class.

Called into the Pheasant on Sunday on our way home from a birthday party in ballynahinch, my husband and I both had the roast beef and our daughter had scampi and fries. The roast dinners were fantastic, the plate had so many lovely flavours, between the wide selection of vegetables, to the gravy and as for the beef it was a nice sized portion so so tender and full of flavour. We were going to have dessert but the maincourse stuffed us both. Service was very attentive also as there seemed to be a larger party in another area of restaurant. Absolute shambles Had a table booked and arrived on time, but after we were seated we sat for 30/35 minutes and no one came near us. It was so awkward. The restaurant wasn't busy - 3 tables. Waiting staff walked past us several times. Final straw was having to listen to an argument between chefs (who just wanted waiting staff to bring out food) and the waiting staff. We got up and left and went elsewhere. Unfortunately I cant say anything about their food, but service was shambolic - think twice before coming here

Used to go all the time to The Pheasant years ago but haven't been for a few years due to working abroad. Usually the staff are very good but the particular waitress that showed us to our table had a thoroughly unpleasant manner and clearly not happy to be working on a Saturday night. The menu choice isn't nearly what it used to be and wasn't overly impressed by what was on it. I had the Goats Cheese tart to start which was very small compared to usual portations of this dish elsewhere and it tasted horrible with a texture to match. Was very chalky in texture which was good sign pointing at the tart having been frozen rather than freshly made. Due to lack of choice I ended up picking a burger which the menu really raved about... First off it was £17 and then if you wanted cheese it was a extra £2... Seriously!? Burger arrived bordering on very well done to burnt it had a clear burnt taste that overpowered what was otherwise a very bland tasting dish. Meant to come with mayonnaise there was the mearest suggestion of mayo on it might as well have not bothered at all. Asked for ketchup to at least disguise the burnt taste just so I could get it eaten as I was hungry... Ketchup was the cheapest ketchup ever was pretty much all vinegar so given the prices being paid they penny pinch on giving Heinz at least. I was just going to pay and leave just to put the bad experience to bed but I was asked by the manager how my meal was when paying and I told her the truth and in fairness she did knock the two starters of the bill. In fact she was the only positive thing I can say about the experience she is always friendly and pleasant just a shame her attitude doesn't rub off on all the staff members. Even though we are local I won't be back.

The Pheasant is a good eating house. The toilets could take an upgrade ( this observation can only focus on the male toilets ). 1. The sit down for a comfort break in the public bar is at core poor—- reason being the door cannot be secured closed. 2. The lighting in both gents is of another time ie too dull not sharp and bright. 3.The absence of up to date hand drying blowers is of another time. ( the paper towel holders are most suitable ) 4. The hand washing sink area in both toilets are tired and out of date, electronic mixer taps are the modern way. 5. The various doors have black iron handles. More modern lighter in colour types would encourage perhaps more frequent spray thereof to keep at bay various bacteria. This last point is guilty of all public used facilities. A warm friendly well run premises —- it’s just that the loos have not kept up. Bye for now as they say.

Have eaten here recently on several occasions, and have enjoyed every one. The food has been reliably excellent, William and Denise and staff have been courteous and attentive, especially when we have had our wheelchair-bound daughter with us. One highlight a couple of weeks ago was their Oak-smoked Salmon & Atlantic Shrimp starter with Bushmills Seafood sauce, beetroot & apple, and homemade wheaten bread. It was absolutely spectacular - far and away the best combo of salmon and shrimp I have ever had. On the business dinner I hosted there, two of our party shared the Mad about Meat option, and couldn't finish their portions. Unlike La Scala Bistro I wrote about recently, here the additional dishes of vegetables were generous and interesting, and you could guarantee that none of your party would go home hungry. On a birthday dinner last week I started with Pigeon Breast with Pickled Red Cabbage, which was a little gnarly and tough but tasted wonderful. This is a no-risk choice of restaurant for a good night out, and prices are at or below the average. E.g. house wines £4 by the glass, Mains all under £20 apart from the steaks. Hard to beat!

Extremely great sounding marketing when you read the write up about this mid-week special but I and my family (4) were extremely underwhelmed when we actually tried it. Sure the place is nice and the servers were friendly enough but the quality and quantity of the food offered was questionable. My son and I looked at each other when they brought the platter out; half expecting another one!!! The tobacco onions were fine as was the chicken but the steaks were small in size and fatty. The ribs too were minimal portions and extremely fatty. I've had much better offerings at a fraction of the cost and not on a so called special. Both the blue cheese sauce and Jack Daniels sauce lacked any real flavour. If you're trying to entice someone out mid-week with a so called "special" then either the food or the price needs to be exceptional - this was neither!!

Delicious seabass served at lunch but wines by the glass were sadly not of great standard. The macchiato was definitely one of the best in Belfast

Always enjoyed going to ashvale until they put up the barrier to stop customers going past the doors ! Owners need to remember the customers are adults not school children joining the que for a school dinner ! they also need to do something about customers standing outside in que in the cold ! Think it’s time they think more of the customers ! I know I’m not the only customer giving of above the barrier nor the long que in the cold ! Coffee can be hit or miss ! Not always made right !

Great experience overall, we ordered 2 whole peri peri chickens one is hot sauce with dressing touch of Lemon and herb and one with the mild sauce only and they mistakenly put lemon and herb dressing on mild but still we are ok but when we are eating the chicken was under grilled which i don’t like much and peri peri fires were outstanding and staff is very friendly and open to suggestions if you need which we like the most needs a bit improvement on chicken while grilling. 100% recommended

Lovely pub / restaurant with nice decor and waitresses were extremely helpful and friendly. We both chose steak and Guinness pie for our main course. Meal tasted lovely but was let down by the miserable amount of filling in both pies. We both had only 4 or 5 tiny pieces of meat. We did point this out to our waitress at the end of the meal when asked for feedback. She was very apologetic and genuinely sorry. However we did expect a manager to speak to us and maybe refund a drink or something as a goodwill gesture. However bill came for full amount and no one came to speak us. We duly settled up and left disappointed in the poor customer service.

Ordered small fry which was mediocre and semi warm. Service without a smile. From experience until recently free tea with breakfast food as described but not any longer now. Paid £15.65 sharing a pot of not hot tea which was supposed to be separate. Consider this to be beyond the pale. Can't understand why Management doesn't take action based on Trip Advisor review summary for this restaurant. Return visit - no, elsewhere.

My Dad and I go here every Sunday morning. The staff are always so friendly and the coffee is great! It's just at the entrance to the Tow Path so a great place to stop for a break! Can highly recommend the Cappuccino, Cornflake Square traybake and their bacon baps are amazing too! Definitely the best coffee shop in Lisburn!!
