Always enjoyed going to ashvale until they put up the barrier to stop customers going past the doors ! Owners need to remember the customers are adults not school children joining the que for a school dinner ! they also need to do something about customers standing outside in que in the cold ! Think it’s time they think more of the customers ! I know I’m not the only customer giving of above the barrier nor the long que in the cold ! Coffee can be hit or miss ! Not always made right !

Good food, friendly service, lovely chilled atmosphere. Definitely worth the trip out of Lisburn to eat. Staff were efficient and food was served quickly. Steak sandwich was good, although a little too much tobacco onions for my taste, but easily reduced / removed. Chips were great. The honey chilli chicken was delicious... I think definitely one of the best or perhaps the best item on the menu. We didn't have the afternoon tea, but it looked good and very traditional with a 3 tiered stand: sandwich selection on the bottom, scones and tray bakes on the upper two levels. Plenty of parking, although don't be surprised if there's a queue to get in. The farm shop is a bit small, but with a good selection of local produce: vegetables, coffees (beans and and ground), sweet treats etc.

Going in I didn't know what to expect, but I was blown away. The food quality was outstanding, so fresh! I had the steak sandwich. The place had a very cosy atmosphere (even with it being busy). But the staff deserve a round of applause for how friendly and attentive they were. I would only suggest that they have someone manage the door, to both greet and let patrons know of wait times. As the places gets very busy, very quickly.

Very pretty restaurant, serving lunch only. The staff are standoffish and I might go so far as to say rude. The food was hit and miss. One day 3 of us had excellent meals. The following day 2 different people and I had so/so meals. The rooms themselves are very attractive with lots of live plants and plastic ones, but tasteful. The habit of putting a barrier across the entrance is very unfriendly, especially as they don't only do it when it is closed, but all the time, and they open it to let your party in, then close it in front of the next one, kind of makes you feel like you are waiting to get into an illegal card game or drug den and are being eyed up through a peep hole somewhere to make sure you are ok to go in. We got there when there was no queue, waited by the barrier for a few minutes, debating whether it was closed, or if we were at the wrong entrance, eventually my more impatient sister-in-law moved the barricade to go ask someone, and she got a sharp rebuke for it. Not a great start to lunch.

Delicious food in a lovely restaurant but a very long queue (25 minutes) to wait for a lunch table at 1.30. Would have been good if somebody communicated what the estimated wait time would be to the customers outside, otherwise good service. Perhaps go earlier or later to avoid this long wait. Lovely shop attached so you can bring some tasty treats home too. Will be returning.

Went this morning for brunch. Food was nice but overpriced. We finished our meal and were approached straight away asking if we wanted anything else. When we said no and were just chatting and drinking our water, the same staff member came back after 5 mins and offered us the bill. I know that’s probably quite normal but I just felt rushed and being allowed to sit and chat for 10 mins after eating isn’t unreasonable. We paid £52 for 3 lattes and 3 french toast which all tasted nice but service was lacking. I won’t return unfortunately

My missus and I used to love this place, this is the 4th time we have had a poor experience, After 3 occasions of being served mediocre food we thought we would give it one last chance to see if things had changed, after queuing for 20 minutes we were sat down near where the counter is situated, I had asked when we where waiting could we be seated in the Orangery and as we were being ushered in I asked again and was abruptly 'told' NO, cant you see we are very busy......well that just put a dampner on everything, there is no need to be rude, When ordering I asked for a couple of changes to my dish, that didnt go down well, when a waitress tuts at a paying customer that says it all, When my toasted sandwich came out promptly it was something you get out of a garage forecourt, actually it wasnt, a garage forecourt fayre is better, luke warm, limp and tasteless, I didnt even bother to complain, there wont be a 5th time, extremely expensive, pure execution and rude staff, Why would I go back? Very sad since this used to be the go place, not anymore.

After having been here quite a few years ago I decided to give it another go. To be honest I don't get what all the hype is about. The setting is nice and yes the food is nice but in my opinion very overpriced for a Farmshop cafe. You can most certainly expect a queue no doubt a number of the clientele are returning customers. On the couple of occasions I have been I always feel rushed to finish and move on. Yes I know there is a queue but it's to relax for a short time post eating.

Not good for coeliacs / people who require gluten-free options. They offer gluten-free bread but tell you that they can't guarantee there's no cross-contamination in the kitchen. So the only safe gluten-free foods are scones and tray bakes that are pre-packaged. The scone is tiny and not worth the money. The service isn't very friendly either. Won’t be back! Stood in a queue with parents who are in their 80s, my mother has issues with her back and walks with a stick. She was happy to queue although I had suggested that we go elsewhere. Couldn’t believe it when members of staff came from the shop entrance and ushered their able bodied friends in the side door . When we eventually got into the restaurant and were seated I mentioned the queue jumping to the waitress, her response was”that’s a privilege of knowing the owners”!!!! Well, if the owners think it’s ok for their friends to jump the queue in front of a couple of octogenarians that’s fine but I’ll be going somewhere where all paying customers are treated equally!!!! The food was ok, not worth the wait to be honest!!!

I visited here 2 years ago and was impressed .Now prices are extortionate. A scone at £2.5 is fine, but an extra £1.5 for preserves and clotted cream is not really acceptable!! .Scones were not special . The server was condescending when a request for an extra decaff teabag was made!! She asked if everything was OK whilst we were eating .On my initial order,I requested an extra pot of hot water for a, top up if cools or becomes too strong. However, their teabag produced weak tea, thus reason for request for a 2nd teabag. She refused my simple request . My perception was she thought I wanted a free pot of tea as she kept hinting about my extra pot of hot water !! Also the tea pot came with only hot water and teabag placed on the saucer!!. I have had decaff tea in many cafes and many provide loose tea not one bag unceremoniously placed on saucer !! This incident shall teach me never to go back ! Also to all the servers, please stop asking if meal is OK, if you have no intention of solving a problem .Its all PR but with no depth or sincerity !!

I was with a 95year old lady who has problems eating meat & heavy foods, we had just missed the breakfast service & there was nothing suitable on the lunch menu so my friend asked could she have an egg & onion sandwich, our server ( who turned out to be the manager) was very obliging & said yes of course we will do that for you, less than 2 minutes later our food was in front of us, great service I thought, but the sandwich was inedible, no butter on the bread, egg cress with half an onion sliced on top of it, really awful, we pointed it out to a waitress, she said they had had the same complaint the day before & she would get the manager, finally the ‘lady’ who had taken our order came to us, she was very condescending & said they had made the sandwich especially for us & that she liked a lot of stringy onion on her sandwich, as for butter, new legislation is they cannot butter bread. Her attitude was awful, no respect for senior citizen at all. I will definitely not be back, total disgrace.

To be honest I was a little shocked when reading some of the other reviews regarding poor staff attitude, awful food and not wanting children in the restaurant. We had my little grandson with us and the staff were lovely to him. Our food was excellent and the price was okay. I was made to feel uncomfortable for having a child with me, my food was quite literally swiped from me and staff members hovering around my table made me rush out the door. Horrible experience had by all who dined with us. Couldn't enjoy our very over priced food because of a waitress harassing us, asking questions that were of no concern to her, saying she has to ‘grin and bare it’ with customers making us feel very on edge and intimidated. Whispering and eyeballing us throughout the whole meal. Didn’t want to even serve us or want us to stay on for anything else, snapping menus back and lofting plates we were still eating from. We were discriminated against 100%. And after sharing my experience with others I have found out that this is a regular occurrence in this so called family run business. Absolutely disgusting!!!!

We had a lovely meal, followed by very enjoyable desserts. The staff were very busy but friendly. The only negative today was a conversation we would rather not have overheard, between another customer and a member of the waiting staff. They had a young child who was running all over the place. It was a very busy environment and hot drinks being served, I didn’t think that was appropriate. Also a well done to the member of staff, in my opinion I thought they were spoken to rather rudely. Our last visit to Ashvale was very mediocre to say the least but every establishment has its 'off' days so we decided to give it another chance and return for Lunch, My wife and I both ordered the soup and a sandwich, I ordered a mozzerella and pesto sandwich and asked a bemused waitress if I could substitute the rocket for general lettuce as I really do not like rocket, the soup that day was Vegetable Broth.......Indeed the sandwich came out minus the rocket with the smallest and limpest piece of lettuce I have ever saw in a sarnie (which was toasted but luke warm) Taste wise it was a complete disappointment, barely any pesto, lacked seasoning and generally bland, definately not a gourmet sandwich, onto the vegetable broth, the only way I could describe it was 'dishwater' There was zero pearl barley (or any soup mixture for that matter) the leaf celery was chewy and stringy and generally unpleasant, flavour wise it completely lacked any, My wife had a different sandwich but was also disappointed with it, she didnt finish her soup. Ashvales social media routinely showcase their deserts and they always look fantastic in the pictures so I ordered Lemon Meringue Pie, unfortunately underwhelmed once again, I don't think the meringue had been baked, it looked as if it had been browned on top with a blow torch which wasnt particularly pleasant, the lemon was over sweet and in between the lemon and base there was a thin layer of red jam, im not sure if it was raspberry or strawberry but it didnt belong there, rather than enhance it just made the whole thing taste weird, the last time I ordered tea but didnt enjoy it at all so opted for a coke zero which was the best part of the meal (my wife did enjoy her coffee) I really dislike giving out poor reviews but if something isn't right then it has to be registered, over all it was a very disappointing experience, beautiful interior but food and service (check out the other reviews on service) generally lacking especially when you are paying premium prices which you only find out when you dine there as they keep their menu prices away from the internet. I doubt we will ever return to Ashvale which is a real shame as it COULD be a wonderful place.

An amazing place for a great breakfast or lunch or just a coffee and a catch up. The staff are amazing, they even let me go up and play their wonderful piano, I cant wait to go back ❤️🙏

Beautiful restaurant and really lovely service. Food was delicious! Always seems to be a queue which says a lot! Plenty of car parking too. Highly recommend!

Lovely staff - attentive and welcoming. The food was OK. Caesar salad had no dressing and the chicken was tasty but not very hot in terms of temperature. There is a strange policy about ordering hot drinks alongside food - basically you can't in one order even though you are presented with a drinks menu at the table. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lunchtime can get busy so may need to bring your coat when waiting outside. Food was delicious, I had the sausage roll and it was so tasty I bought a packet home. Staff was attentive and the restaurant beautifully decorated. Shop was a little too small but that's ok they're expanding, can't wait for it to open.

horrendous experience, there with 2 children (4 in total). struggling in a queue, which was our own choice to wait in. staff came and seated 2 groups of 2 behind us first, which was absolutely fine. When were eventually seated, and behold the two groups of two were seated at tables for 4. seated at bottom of stairs in conservatory and staff proceeded to serve coffee over the top of a 9 month old in a highchair. my wife who is quite anxious of such things, put her arm over my daughter each time, and low and behold the second time her arm got covered in hot coffee! my mother in law asked to speak to staff afterwards, and addressed the issue of seating and was told couldn't put a highchair in the way of wheelchair paths, ok not sure but ok! and when addressing why staff were serving hot coffee across the top of the 9month, the response was "were don't prepare for spilled coffee" can 100% say i will not be back and will not recommend anyone else does

Having been here before and a lovely experience. To hear how my grandmother and her friends in their 80s were treated yesterday by staff was despicable. After being told they had to go to let the afternoon tea people sit down, wasn’t allowed to keep a glass of water until they were leaving and then a cup full of tea being spilled over my 84 year old granny by the waitress, another waitress told her she should apologise to the other waitress after a comment was misheard. Had my granny said what was accused she still should NOT have been spoken to the way she was. Why this is the case is beyond me- poor customer service and considering Granny was covered from the neck down in tea due to the staff rushing to clear up (evidenced by her clothes she had on and trying to get the stains out of after). The attitude of staff is absolutely stinking and to think it is acceptable to speak to elderly people the way they did is horrendous. I highly doubt had this been myself or an able bodied person the same attitude would have been given. I hope the team at ashvale learn how to speak to paying customers (despite the fact the tea that was paid for she was now wearing- could’ve drank it from her shoe as there was tea in these!) with an element of respect.

I visited Ashvale recently for breakfast. I was not impressed by the experience at all. When seated we waited 5 minutes to be given a menu. Whilst waiting for our food other tables that arrived after us with larger groups of people received their food a good 10 minutes before we received ours. Then we waited 20 minutes after finishing for our plates to be cleared and nobody came so we had to approach a member of staff to ask to pay the bill as we had been forgotten about. On our way out we approached the till by the front door to purchase food to take away. Several members of staff walked by us and looked at us and ignored us. After waiting about 5-10 minutes I asked a member of staff if they would mind serving us and their reply was “can’t you just wait one minute!” as well as pointing a finger up towards me when they said it. I will NOT be back and will be sharing this experience with friends and family. The food was lovely however to be ignored and spoken to like that ruined the whole experience in Ashvale.

Great experience overall, we ordered 2 whole peri peri chickens one is hot sauce with dressing touch of Lemon and herb and one with the mild sauce only and they mistakenly put lemon and herb dressing on mild but still we are ok but when we are eating the chicken was under grilled which i don’t like much and peri peri fires were outstanding and staff is very friendly and open to suggestions if you need which we like the most needs a bit improvement on chicken while grilling. 100% recommended

Lovely pub / restaurant with nice decor and waitresses were extremely helpful and friendly. We both chose steak and Guinness pie for our main course. Meal tasted lovely but was let down by the miserable amount of filling in both pies. We both had only 4 or 5 tiny pieces of meat. We did point this out to our waitress at the end of the meal when asked for feedback. She was very apologetic and genuinely sorry. However we did expect a manager to speak to us and maybe refund a drink or something as a goodwill gesture. However bill came for full amount and no one came to speak us. We duly settled up and left disappointed in the poor customer service.

Ordered small fry which was mediocre and semi warm. Service without a smile. From experience until recently free tea with breakfast food as described but not any longer now. Paid £15.65 sharing a pot of not hot tea which was supposed to be separate. Consider this to be beyond the pale. Can't understand why Management doesn't take action based on Trip Advisor review summary for this restaurant. Return visit - no, elsewhere.

My Dad and I go here every Sunday morning. The staff are always so friendly and the coffee is great! It's just at the entrance to the Tow Path so a great place to stop for a break! Can highly recommend the Cappuccino, Cornflake Square traybake and their bacon baps are amazing too! Definitely the best coffee shop in Lisburn!!
