The Pearl Restaurant in Tameside

We were a party of 30. 20 of us are now sick with diarrhoea and vomiting. Within one day of eating at the Pearl. Some staff are not back at work yet after 5 days. The restaurant didn’t get back to us when we gave feedback. Stay away. Unhygienic food.

Pros: Food was nice. Cons: That's where the pros end. Took an hour for food to arrive and arrived immediately when we reminded a waiter. Chairs are falling apart. You are brought to the lounge to wait even if you booked far in advance. They forgot to seat us until we asked - there were plenty of free tables. The music in the lounge is so loud you can't talk and it can be heard far across the restaurant. It's not a nightclub but you'd struggle to tell the difference. Too many waiters just wandering around. We were ready to leave for a while and nobody came to give the bill.

Great quality food and staff service 4 weeks in a row, I came in for take out and added the jerk wings and I've been eating jerk for 30 years my dad 45 and both of us me as a ex chef and him his friends are chiefs have to say this is the best jerk chicken in all them years I've ever had amazing highly recommended

Very nice function room for a birthday

We visited here on Chrismas Day 2024 where our table wasn't ready and we had to wait in the bar area 15 minutes until called to our table which wasn't fully ready as there was no highchair in place that we had specified at the time of booking. We received the wrong Rices and when this was mentioned to the staff they just said sorry and didn't rectify this. When asked what desserts were available the waiter replied 'for the thousandth time today ill tell you'....which I found very rude and unprofessional. I also didn't find our table to be festive at all there were no pulling Crackers or festive napkins and given we had paid £260 for 5 adults I thought this wouldn't have been too much to ask to make the tables look Christmassy. Apart from the music & chrismas tree it may aswell been a regular Saturday night. I will most definitely not be eating a xmas lunch here again. I appreciate it was a busy day but at a cost of £52pp the service atmosphere and the wrong sides to our meal were unacceptable. 5 adults & 1 child of 18months old.

Lovely warm and welcoming place with friendly staff. All in all a great place for a lovely meal 🍴. I recommend it highly.

Always a great meal here. We come often both in our own and as a small group and have never been disappointed. There are options for all dietary requirements and the staff are always helpful and friendly. We have come here when it’s been quiet and on Christmas Eve when it’s very busy and never had a bad meal

Went here for Christmas Day dinner. It was very busy but the service was excellent. The food was amazing too!

Mixed review really. We booked yesterday for Christmas Day. The food itself was lovely and hot but the service really let it down. I think with us only being a table of 2 people in comparison to the group bookings we just kept being forgotten about which wasn’t a nice feeling. We had to keep asking for new forks to eat with and plates. They forgot our popadoms then when we got them we only received 1 each. When we were ordering/talking to the waiter he wouldn’t even look at us and was looking past us so we had to keep repeating ourselves. We paid for a set menu and asked for sundries and were told these were extra when on the phone whilst booking we were told these would be no extra cost . We were never offered our deserts just a warm wet wipe and the bill and by this point we just wanted to leave so didn’t even bother asking what about the paid for desert! I can imagine it’s a very nice place on a weekday but for Christmas we just felt like a massive inconvenience and like we paid £50 each for a starter and a main. Live and learn.

Chose to have Xmas dinner at The Pearl this year having never done this before was a bit apprehensive. But I have to say the food was of the usual high standard the staff and the service were great nothing was too much trouble even though the restaurant was absolutely packed they remained patient and pleasant and we didn’t feel rushed and we could take our time. You did yourselves proud Pearl restaurant see you same time next year!

I've dined at The Pearl on two occasions and both of them have been excellent. As you walk in, you are met by friendly staff and a well stocked bar. If it's a curry, then it has to be a Cobra for me...and The Pearl's is on point. The food is of fantastic quality and the menu provides a vast range of dishes for all curry lovers. There is a large choice of traditional dishes to enjoy too. I chose to have Karahi Gosht (mutton dish) and it was absolutely superb. The meat was succulent and extremely flavoursome. This is a truly great restaurant with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It has to be a five star rating and I highly recommend.

Starter's good mains are average service is very poor always got 10% NHS discount but these guys make their own rule Wen they want to give the discount (more about the principle)they say they have offers but when they give u the bill it's never there u have to point it out to them,(always check and dnt be shy to tell them)manager never there when u want a word with them,use to go there a lot but guess that's my last time

1st time I came here was a lot better,2nd time around didn't like the way we had 2 have food chosen for us, even if busy were paying so we should have what we want,was quite rushed out of our seats eg.. wanted table for nxt guest, asked for a member of staff a couple of times, just got brushed off, so no we won't be coming back there in a hurry... didn't want to go there in 1st place

Great food, great location with lots of free parking

The food is excellent and is some of the best Indian I have tasted. Portion sizes are acceptable, but could be slightly larger. The onion bhajis were delicious and fresh. Very pleasant staff and surroundings.

This restaurant is fantastic the food is so nice 10 out of 10 friendly staff too plus a bonus because I live right over the road from it 2 mins away I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone

A lovely meal, staff extremely pleasant and was very reasonably priced. I will definitely be going back! Well I went back today 17/5/23 and it was beautiful- looking forward to the next visit 🙂. Been there again tonight, it was absolutely beautiful, the best food in the North West! 5 stars 🤩

The food was ok, but the 2 for 1 on mains is really misleading as you need to order 2 starters as well, so you'll probably save a fiver.

We try and make it here every Sunday. Fantastic food and staff.. great choice of drinks, better than the rest, don’t be mistaken, THIS is the one 👍🏼

Being going a couple of times amonth recently & Quality of the Food is right up there with the Best in Manchester, Definitely recommend!

Nice Indian restaurant and cater for large groups so can get quite noisy and have a party atmosphere with its own disco!

No problems at all, we found it reasonably quiet for a Friday evening, the staff were very attentive and the food was excellent. We've visited several times now and it remains one of our favourite Indian restaurants.

Ordered a takeaway the food was okay I have had better and I have had worse. The bill came to over £40 On their website it says if you spend over £25 you can get a free bottle of wine when I asked about it he said you have to spend over £45 what a con.

Sorry to the pearl owners but this place has gone downhill,we for a friends 70th birthday and we're left underwhelmed at least 4 of us were left with diarrhea within an hour of leaving the restaurant I for one will definitely not be returning

Only went in for a drink to meet family and friends, service was good and very reasonably priced.

Been here a few times the food is lovely and the service is good, the only issue is the toilets. They were really filthy, I’m not going into detail but it was all over the walls, seats. In addition the door was broke and didn’t lock and they really need a good clean, this put me off. Luckily I saw the toilets after I’d eaten! Little details like this make a big difference

Terrible Worst Goan fish curry I’ve ever tasted. I have eaten this dish in many countries & I certainly can tell a good one to a bad one. The sauce Was a mix between butter chicken & a lot of sugar, absolutely no evidence of coconut cream/milk. My partner was advised to get the Afghan chicken which was also terrible. How are you getting away with servicing such rubbish? Ok if you like inauthentic food.

The food was delicious and the staff were helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend going to The Pearl restaurant . A great stop if you are on a canal boat.

Lovely place for a curry, food was delicious, service was brilliant and the pricing is perfect. Accommodated to us perfectly, will be returning and would highly reccomend.

3rd July 2024. I was considering giving the Pearl a 2nd chance. I have read through the reviews and I can see there hasn't been an improvement. Sadly I will not be eating here any time in the near future. Party of 3 had a meal on Thursday 27th May 2021. The food was ok. I am giving it a one star because there was no hand soap in the men's or women's toilets or any hand sanitizer available. I reported this to the front desk. Visited the Pearl again on 27th April at 19:40 ish. There was only a few tables occupied. The toilets had been clean until children had tried to wee in to two of the three urinals and missed and weed onto the floor. Someone had used one of the toilets and sadly not bother or was unable to flush the toilet. There was a hand written cleaning rota on the wall. The last entry was 31st March ! Not a great improvement since my last visit.

Had my daughter's hen party here . Fabulous food. Amazing service. Great atmosphere. Staff fantastic . My first time here would definitely recommend and will be back again .Thank you to to everyone x

A family gatherings that was well attended. Food, service, and decoration were good.

Wasnt very clean, bathroom was a state and there was a hair in one of our drinks, almost everyone at my table had diarrhoea. The amount of food was good but wasnt very authentic, i whish they would have left the dips for us to mix in the curries.

Another fantastic night we booked a table for 16 people and had the £26 party menu with unlimited fill ups. Service was great as always. All staff was welcoming and professional. The food was top notch delicious as always.

Absolutely gutted that what used to be one of our favourite places to eat will now be somewhere we don’t come back to. We were seated promptly drinks ordered and then really hurried to make a decision on what we were eating. We just wanted mains and the waiter tutted at us when we didn’t want to order starters etc. The food was nice but not once did the waiter ask us if we needed another drink or anything just kept walking past and blanked us. I was really disappointed with the lack of service considering the waiter was happy to engage with other tables next to us. When the bill arrived hardly anything was itemised , then there was other charges on but nothing written next to it. When I asked the waiter he said it was correct. Just under £100 for four main dishes and one drink each two of which were water. We felt it was such a shame as used to be a really lovely place to come to

Food was superb, staff very attentive. Unfortunately some very noisy obnoxious customers somewhat spoiled a great meal.

Brilliant restaurant. Service was excellent. The server suggested a curry for me to try and it was delicious. Abdul the server was outstanding and he’s clearly passionate about his job. We will be going back and expect to become regulars

This place is over rated I’ve been here loads of times & came here tonight for a family birthday meal & I won’t be coming back, for one you have to pay for the dips for you poppadoms how bizarre! 2 we waited about 30 minutes for the poppadoms to come out, 3 it took about an hour for our main to come out & it vile, how this place is still open is beyond me!

Fabulous ambiance. Great staff who go above and beyond. Decor is wonderfully tasteful and the food is even better. Been here before and endeavour to visit again!

Every Mon & Tue with 15% off. Nice curry with lamb and chicken. Naan is also really good. Environment is also good with many parking spaces.

First visit and it didn't disappoint

Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Went away last Friday. Hadn’t booked so just took a chance and they fitted us in. Great atmosphere great service and the food is amazing. Such a wise choice to choose from. Would highly recommend for small groups or large groups because the night we were there there was a number of families eating

We have been going to the Pearl for years we have had a few family celebrations 18ths 21sts and other big occasions these guys can't do enough they are polite friendly and very professional and the food is belting very tasty I would highly recommend you try it

Came here last night for my husbands 70th. There was 28 of us including children. The food was superb, everyone commented how much they enjoyed it, and the staff brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. Making it a fantastic family night out.

We’ve been here three or four times now, and the thing that always strikes me when we arrive is the scruffy approach to the main entrance. It’s in desperate need of a jet washing to get rid of the grime and trodden in chewing-gum. Ugh. Once inside though, it’s not too bad. The service has been okay in the past, but on this occasion they had to be reminded – twice – that we hadn’t yet had our rice to accompany our main courses. No complaints about the food, when the the rice did finally arrive, but the drinks are getting eye-wateringly expensive. Won’t be rushing back any time soon.

Christmas Day 5pm sitting was so poor. Bad service from the time we entered until the time we left. We didn’t get seated until 6.15 pm , despite me asking several managers how much longer we have to wait. They went looking for spare tables but then didn’t update me on how much longer it would be, they simply went back behind the bar and talked to other colleagues about something else. We had two young children with us who were getting fed up waiting. Finally when we were seated to a table with only a drab grey cover on and 6 side plates. Very festive. Eventually our mains came and we were several plates short and some cutlery missing. We had to ask three waiters for the missing items before they eventually arrived. Our main server also advised if we wanted drinks then it may be best to go to the bar ourselves if we wanted them quickly. The curries were average to say the least two of the mains were supposed to be different but tasted exactly the same. Our desserts finally arrived but all our mains plates, cup etc were still on the table and hadn’t been removed. He finally got someone to remove the finished plates after a long wait. To cap it all one of our party mislaid his jacket. The staff didn’t seem interested in trying to locate it. In fact our grandson eventually noticed it behind the main bar on the counter. Very poor experience considering the price we paid and money we spent on drinks. Avoid this restaurant for a while until the reviews improve or better management system is put in place. There are a lot better restaurants locally so I’ll go there in future. I’ve sent several emails via their website but as yet not received any response. Appreciate it was Christmas Day and very busy but I think they overbooked and brought in staff who have never done this type of work before.

Not The Pearl it used to be. No silver serving dishes just on dishes so the food was also cold as well as unauthentic.

Went to The Pearl having not been for a while, safe to say we will not be back. We sat in a freezing cold restaurant because they didn’t have any heating. We ordered chicken tikka masala and a chicken balti. The chicken tikka was watery and lacked any flavour as if it was left overs adding water to make it go that bit further, definitely not fresh. The chicken was gooey and freezing cold. The chicken balti was very greasy and again lacked any flavour. We mentioned this to the waiter who walked away and took 30 minutes to return. Paying over £42 for this poor standard of food and not being offered a refund for what we didn’t eat I think is extremely poor. I would avoid this place if you want a decent meal and not an upset stomach. Poor service and disgusting food.

Ordered at 5:30pm. Got the notification that it was out for delivery at 6pm. Order still not here at 7pm. Husband called them, they lied and said the delivery driver was on his way and it would be with us in 10 minutes. 7:30pm - still not here. Absolutely livid and ended up calling to cancel the order. Beyond a joke.

Bad service by all standards. I go with a friend to the place a lot. The last visit was last Saturday. There was a new staff with bad service. There was no menu on the table. A waiter came and asked, “Should I offer you a drink?” and we answered him. He left without hearing or taking the order. We waited for more than half an hour and then left. The receptionist merely said, "I'm sorry." 😡😡😡

I went here last night for my 23rd birthday got to admit the food was very lovely we got a poppadoms starter , then we had an onion Barge starter , chicken tikka starter and then for our mains we had chicken tikka curry , boiled rice and Bombay potatoes the food was that good that we even left a £5 tip for the staff that work there will deffo return again .

Picked up a takeaway on the way home and it was gorgeous, I popped in through the gap in the fence along the canal to order and pick it up.....but please, if that bush is from your side covering the canal path can you please get rid of it...people are struggling to get by....thanks

Came as a table 3, service was quick and efficient however the food was abit bland and just really cautious with the portions. We'd ordered chilli chicken, a karahi and a bhuna with numerous starters.

Nice food. Bit slow with the service but definitely go again. Probably wouldn't chance a busier time/weekend due to service. The waiter struggled with our 3 drinks order and also our food order but the food was decent when it arrived and we weren't in a rush so it was ok.

Inside, slow service but food is good. Loads of mishaps with order. Tried the Takeout this time.. Takeout...1.5 hours on a Tuesday evening. (late) Then arrived cold. Delivery driver completely at fault. Driver sat outside revving his souped up engine dropping his dump valve until I went out and asked for my food. Tragic ! The Pearl, get better drivers. I don't want to waste £50 on your takeaway again. They offered free order next time but I am not sure if I can be bothered? Thanks for trying though.

Always great service, always great food. Great atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Large carpark so never any issues parking. This is how an Indian restaurant should be.

Posted previous review a year ago. Not sure what has changed but recently hasn't been the same. Daughter was ill after a meal and recently myself. I eat allot of spicy food so unsure why I didn't feel good afterwards. Venue in urgent need of an update, is it like this behind the scenes & sanitary? Staff are always so attentive, but aside from key people seems to change week on week. A shame as was our go to place. Doesn't seem as busy so maybe others feel the same. Just honest feedback, pains me to say! Absolutely 6*, have loved curry for more years than I can remember and is my go to food. Up and down the country, across the world and these guys hands down do the best chicken tikka pieces, the onion bhaji is good and the service is above usual & appreciated. Attentive, friendly and plenty of staff. Clean, COVID mindful with gloves and atmosphere is correct. Thank you for your service!

The food was warm (not hot). We were given incorrect advice by staff to encourage over ordering of sundries. We had to turn down poppadoms 5 times before he reluctantly agreed that we did not need to have them, then he insisted that three of us HAD to order three starters and was very put out when Mum declined. They also over-engaged in conversation - bordering on rude and intrusive. The food we got was nothing like as expected. Very tomato based and lacking in spices/flavour. The Butter chicken tasted VERY strange. Chicken Karai is not a tomato dish! Not unpleasant … but NONE was a curry! We eat curry a lot - as Dad was born in Calcutta. We know authentic tastes (but perhaps not from the region where these chefs come from). Portions were vastly different in size. Mine was tiny - and I eat well! Mum’s was HUGE and she eats sparingly. Consistency would be better - or some indication of portion size. I don’t think we’ll eat here again! The garlic naan was good! However - as we left the carpark was filling up … so others must have been luckier than us. This seems like a popular place -given the way it got busy!

Saturday night although was fairly busy, we've visited on far busier nights and had better food and service from Pearl. The pink flour from inside of the Pashwari naan flaked all over the curry leaving the bread like a shell and my curry half pink. A 2nd bread was brought again after our complaint but it happened again. Our (mild!) Jalfrezi sauce had peas and carrots but where were the chillies and peppers? Then after asking if I could take my meal home, i was given a paper bag, a lid and a tray and had to do it myself. My wife snd love the Pearl but it definitly slipped below standards we're used to from there.

Awful place... service was very slow waited over an hour for food. Which when it arrived wasn't nice at all. Tried to say it wasn't good (it was terrible) manager was rude and wasn't interested and didn't want to listen to what was trying to say. Wouldn't recommend and wouldn't ever go again.

Dark and gloomy restaurant. The waiters pretend to be busy and very slow even though the restaurant was empty. The food is not bad, but the quality-price ratio is in doubt.

We have been here twice now and both times had great service and wonderful food. Recommend.

Visited here with friends on a weeknight and was pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is huge. Staff friendly and attentive, service and food good. Good value for money. Will be back!

Celebrated my mums 60th birthday there was 20 of us and the staff accommodated everyone, kids and adults. Everything was great from start to finish, food was amazing as always and the staff are so polite, helpful all round great people. My mum had a brilliant birthday, the staff joined in singing happy birthday and they had no problem with us putting up balloons and banners. Definitely would recommend The Pearl for every occasion or evening just to go out for a meal.

Went for my brothers birthday. We had never been before. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Meal was really nice, but quantity was small. DJ and dance floor on the other side of the restaurant.

I've been coming to The Pearl for many years, but today I felt compelled to leave a review because of 2 unusual things that happened. Firstly, and maybe most important, the food was excellent. But then it's *always* excellent. So what was different this time? Well, as the server was serving up our mains he recognised from the aroma alone that the order was wrong. You may think this is a bad thing, but no. *Every* person makes mistakes, *every* company. It's how those mistakes are handled that are much more important. So the server, from the aroma alone, had realised the wrong curry had been made. He apologised, returned it to the kitchen and had it replaced urgently (and it was indeed replaced promptly). The 2 curries, the wrong one and the right one, do indeed look almost identical but he spotted it from the aroma. That's impressive. Secondly, and this is even better to me... The gentleman who took our order had noticed that my autistic teenage daughter loved the fancy pattern that they had made with the napkins. She unfolded it to work out how it was done. So after taking our order this absolute delight of gentlemen spent our waiting time very patiently and kindly showing my daughter how to fold napkins in a variety of ways, helping her whilst she memorised the patterns, complimenting her efforts, and *above all else* treating her like an equal. He never spoke down to herz, he never belittled her. I genuinely believe he spoke to her and gave her the respect that he would give to his own children. It may seem like the smallest thing, but that meant the world.

Our food came (we ordered 3 lamb tikka pasanda's and 1 chicken angara amongst various sides) and it all looked amazing, however, another staff member commented that he didn't think the lamb pasanda's were the right curries, purely because he couldn't smell the red wine they were cooked with - he must have an excellent sense of smell because he was absolutely right! The correct curries were brought out within a few minutes and everything was perfect. The staff went above and beyond and the food, as always, was fantastic. Highly recommended. 😁
