We had our wedding reception here in October after getting married at the nearby church. I cannot fault the parsonage at all, they could not have been more attentive on the day. All the guests had a great experience and we were made to feel totally at ease. Elaine ran our day faultlessly. All the waiting staff were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble - for example we wanted extra bottles of prosecco with glasses being topped up, we also had a crisp wall that the staff set up prior to the evening do. Our suppliers were well fed and catered for. We had access the day before to start set up. Many of our guests chose to stay the night before and the night of the wedding, though some of the rooms are a little dated, many of them are absolutely huge and there's nothing wrong with them at all. The Parsonage also set up a section of the breakfast room the next morning for everyone who was at the wedding, which was a super extra touch. Honestly brilliant. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Parsonage as a venue.

Stayed here recently and left disappointed. For 2025, there are still no plug sockets near the bed – basic convenience missing. The rooms were freezing cold, and guests can’t control the heating. It comes on at set times decided by the hotel, which is unacceptable when you’re paying for a room in the UK. Both my room and my friend’s were too cold to sleep. The exterior is beautiful and gives you high hopes, but inside it’s tired and dated. Another issue – light from the hallway floods the room through the gap under the door, making it impossible to sleep. Wouldn’t stay again. If you’re charging for a night’s stay, at least give guests control over their room temperature and a chance at a proper night’s sleep.

Warm greeting. Booked an afternoon tea to start for our friends birthday. The afternoon tea was lovely however I had emailed to request specific sandwiches due to dietary needs but this was not followed. Mentioned this to a member of staff who kindly rectified straight away and apologised. We would have maybe liked a top up of tea as it did go cold quickly. We then booked the spa afternoon with a treatment each. We all thoroughly enjoyed our treatments and were made to feel comfortable and relaxed. However, we weren’t made aware that there was a problem in the spa resulting in the swimming pool being really warm and the jacuzzi was freezing. We would have appreciated this being mentioned when we checked in as it did become far too hot to relax in the spa area.

Absolutely fabulous. The hotel is located approximately 15 minutes, depending on traffic, from York City Centre. Spent a single night (including breakfast) in the Superior Double Room. Extremely spacious, yet cosy. Furniture and bedding were very comfortable. The room had all the mod cons as expected. Bathroom was equally spacious. All the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. Great service from them all. The hotel also has a nice garden area but this would be more inviting during the spring and summer months. Plenty of parking available and a very short walk to the hotel main entrance. Unfortunately, due to other commitments didn’t get time to visit the spa but definitely next time. Breakfasts included traditional British and European. All freshly cooked and served piping hot. Although an off-season visit it was quite busy. I can see it being in very busy at peak season time. Highly recommend if you’re visiting York and want to stay in a relaxing place.

We had a Superior room. No way was it 4-star. Large heating pipe running through the room, permanently hot, making the room hot. Cracked windows, cobwebs in quite a few places, a line of dust under the previously mentioned pipe, old food under seat cushions, wallpaper damaged in several places. Handle missing on bedside cabinet, so not useable. While walking to the restaurant 3 members of staff outside, 2 smoking and 1 swearing into his phone. The Fat Abbot restaurant was good, the spa was good. Breakfast was good. How this got a 4-star rating is beyond me, might have been a 4-star price, certainly not a 4-star room.

Got a very good deal for a one night stay. Booked B&B but ate dinner in the restaurant. Our room was in the coach house, you had to go back out of the main hotel and along the front. The bed was comfortable and the room was very warm (some reviews mentioned being cold so I was worried). It seemed to be heated by an electric radiator which was adjustable. Plenty of good large towels. Only one bedside socket and no USB ports. The spa was great. Decent size pool, lovely and warm with loungers, a large jacuzzi and various steam /sauna rooms. We paid £1.50 to hire towels. You can use the room towels but the towels were very wet so I’m glad we didn’t. The Fat Abbot was disappointing because it had zero ambience and a limited menu. The food we ordered was actually very good. The hotel restaurant was much nicer and breakfast was lovely. Plenty of parking and 10 minutes to Yourk

I went with a friend to celebrate my birthday and we got the overnight indulgence package that included spa, bed, breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea and everything was absolutely amazing. It truly exceeded my expectations for such a great price, the decor is lovely, the staff are so kind and down to earth, the room was lovely, very beautiful and clean. The food was amazing, particularly the afternoon tea! The spa is wonderful and all the staff are so accommodating. Will absolutely be coming again, absolutely amazing place and lovely staff.

Spa and hotel wonderful. So called "Gastro pub" crap. Description of food doesn't match the quality or lack thereof leaving the kitchen. Shame as it has potential. Breakfast was ok. Food basic but never seen such a chaotic service. Two ladies stood around not doing anything or directing anyone. Again a lost opportunity. I got the feeling they couldn't be bothered. Completely at odds with the restaurant staff who were very nice

Really nice room on the ground floor. Lovely and warm on a freezing night. The spa is adjacent as is the bar restaurant. I had the homemade mushroom and tarragon soup and it was very nice.

Absolute perfection! Been here a few hours and already want to leave a review of it so far. Room perfect, The Fat Abbot perfect! The team all excellent. Not like us but the spa was so relaxing from the moment we stepped in we fell asleep in no time, and that is a first so spot on!!

We enjoyed the hotel and spa which were both good and the staff and service were excellent. The full breakfast is one of the best I have had at a hotel. The experience was let down, however, by The Fat Abbot which describes itself as a "gastro" pub, presumably so they can inflate the prices. The menu options are limited, even by pub standards. My wife had the fish and chips which was very good. My steak, however, looked insipid and tasted bland - I didn't finish it. Service was excellent.

Just what you need for a relaxing break. Suprise night away with Spa treatment from husband. The hotel is impressive at first sight and has 6 acres . It also has a gastro pub , spa facilities, and a beautiful church. The room was warm and cosy, not modern but clean, and had everything we required. The gentleman checking us in was lovely and really helpful even when we couldn't recall our car registration( senior moment). All staff friendly . Ate at the Fat Abbott, which was nice. Food is warm and tasty. There was a wedding on both days that looked lovely. Breakfast was good. there were plenty of cooked items and all hot. The Spa staff were very friendly and informative. The site was lovely and clean. Facilities were great. Steam room, aromotherapy room, sauna , jacuzzi, and swimming pool. Our treatment was for couples, and we were informed about the treatment. This was the most relaxing treatment we have had . So thank you, Sylvia and her colleague, for this experience. We will be back. Highly recommend the Parsonage and the Spa.

Hotel it's self was fantastic, staff very helpful and friendly however we stayed in the enhanced room and it was very dated, wallpaper falling off ceiling etc, the bathroom was the only modern part of the room and the Jacuzzi bath was amazing after a day walking round York. The spa was brilliant with 4 different rooms steam room, sauna, salt room and aromatherapy room Jacuzzi nice and big and very warm, pool however felt freezing after being in the Jacuzzi. Would stay again but wouldn't pay for the upgraded room.

We've been here before and enjoyed ourselves, but on this occasion, the tiredness around the spa pool area was obvious. the floor around the pool, green stains on the floor, and everything in the spa area looked tired and ready for updating. Only one working toilet for the ladies and no light in the shower i used. Won't be going back unless major changes.

My wife and I were visiting from the US and originally planned to stay in York. However, upon arrival, we found most rooms to be booked out. We found The Parsonage and booked a room for 2 nights. We were above the pub, which shuts down no later than 11pm on the weekend, so no noise. The room was older, but we found it to be nice. It was exactly what we needed. Maybe a touch over priced, but we found it to be clean. Breakfast was excellent. The pub food is also very good. The grounds are also great. It is a short drive into York or you can also ride the bus that runs straight into the city.

The room felt cold but it did warm up eventually. The staff were lovely, the food at the Fat Abbot certainly wasn't "gastro", smallest prawns, more like shrimps and dry chicken with quarter of a bag of rocket salad and Frozen French fries!!! The Spa was lovely, mixed experience.

The building is beautiful, you can see a lot of the original structure and history, even the original plans are displayed. It is glorious in its original beauty. The staff were kind and polite and the food was delicious. The room was just the right temperature as you would expect with original windows. A really comfy nights sleep and with great facilites and beautiful garden surroundings this is a lovely hotel. I’d definitely come back 🤩😊

Sadly, this hotel falls very short of the advertised 4 star rating. If you have a cat, you like to swing around, don't take it with you. Seriously though the staff were first rate but the hotel is very tired and in need of sympathetic refurbishment. A beautiful building spoilt by lack of investment.

Adam and Yogi, you are superstars! The thack is an amazing pub, came here for the first time after getting married (we have been coming for a while before). The two lovely owners offered me a free glass of wine as a wedding present & also another plate thrown in with our bar snacks. We got chicken wings, chips and ribs (the ribs were on the house) and it was absolutely delicious. So affordable too which makes it so much nicer ;) proper chips and you can tell the ribs and chicken wings were actually nice proper meat, sometimes you get proper shite from some places but these were amazing. Absolutely delicious 🤤 Keep doing what you’re doing as you’re doing amazing. We know we will most certainly be back when your main menu comes out to try some of the scrumptious food on there too ❤️ x
