We have just enjoyed a stunning meal at Number 30. Beautiful seafood chowder, then we shared the cod & seabass main dishes, very differently prepared, both delicious. We couldn’t resist the cranachan & pannacotta desserts, deliciously light & yummy. All in a peaceful airy room, with friendly attentive service.

Very good food and attentive service. Not sure why this place is not heaving and perpetually fully booked. Other places in Stornoway were booked solid but were not as interesting. It must be newish so it’s reputation as a restaurant hasn’t yet spread.

Not a patch on when we visited last year. Was it a bad day for the chef or has he left? The food was not great: starters were OK but the main course was a real let down. Steak was of poor quality and size and not cooked the way it was ordered, other main courses were just not to standard. The desserts were a real let down, the panna cotta was totally tasteless and the chocolate meringue with cranachan was poor (look up in google to see how to make cranachan!) - we will not be back

Slightly incongruous setting within guesthouse and difficult to find independently as restaurant No. 30 on Tripadvisor Well worth a visit . There is an accomplished chef Richard at the helm and we had a lovely waiter Simon looking after us The food is superb : we tried tempura squid and tempura cauliflower as starters followed by Venison pie and Slow cooked pork belly which were excellent dishes We shared a dessert : chocolate meringue with cranachan and raspberries : delicious This is a very good place to dine in Stornoway. The equal of our favourite Harbour Kitchen A must visit if you’re in town for a few nights

The main house is charming and beautifully decorated, and the breakfast is good. The suites in the back house are okay, but not as nice as the main house, and not well equipped. (There was a kitchen, but only one plate, three forks, and random, scant cooking equipment. There was a washing machine, but it was out of order.) Our experience tipped firmly to the negative due to a confusing and unpleasant encounter we had with the owner over a problem he was having with Booking.com.

On arrival Katherine greeted us and made us feel welcome from the start (as did the only other member of staff we met). Our room was comfortable and clean and individual. We didn't feel we were staying in a 'hotel' but more a comfortable family home - a perfect 'guest house' experience. Our breakfast (which you order your choices the night before and there is a lot of choice) was huge and flavoursome and just right to set us up for the day. Would we stay here again? It would certainly be the first place we'd look to stay on another visit to Stornoway.

My wife and I have dined at the Park regularly over recent months and have found the service, food and ambience at the top level. The menu is full of local produce with great variations on regular themes at comfortable prices and the standard of cuisine is second to none. Visited here on the last night of a trip home. Ate out 3 times and have to say that this restaurant is a hidden gem. It sits very much in the shadow of Digby Chick but the food here was more than on a par if not better! Mushroom soup arrived piping hot and lots of it. Scallops with black pudding and mango and avocado salsa was awesome with 4 lovely plump scallops. Mains of ribeye steak perfectly cooked and venison with game patè so tender and tasty - flavours just fantastic and meat just melted in your mouth.Lovely variety of puddings but could not see passed the deep fried ice cream!Staff helpful and attentive but not intrusive. All in all a great experience and one to be repeated. There were regular top ups of tea and we were even offered a doggy bag of the cake to continue the experience at home! We ate here twice during a recent trip to Scotland. The first night's dinner was good, and we enjoyed it so much we decided to return the following day and have the same thing. The kitchen staff must have changed from one day to the next, because the following day's meal was terrible, and none of the four dishes we ordered bore any resemblance to what we had enjoyed the day before. All we can guess is that one chef works on Tuesdays, and another on Wednesdays. On both days, the waitress seemed unfamiliar with what was on the menu, and what the specials were.

A nice choice of items on the menu, sourced locally. The food was well-presented and hot. The main part of the dining room is long and relatively narrow - good that you don't get a lot of noise from conversations at other tables. The entrance area is a conservatory - rain noise on its roof was a bit distracting. There were delays between courses, but these were not more than 10 mins.

I really can't fault this place. (Seriously, I'll have a good go at the end of this review, but first the "non pedantry").Took my girlfriend there for a birthday meal (she's working on the island for a few months, I was visiting from Easter Ross), and went for the dinner menu. From the outside I'd have presumed this was a guesthouse with cafe attached, which technically it is, but the "cafe" is more of a restaurant in the evening and served up what I have to class as one of the best meals I've ever paid for. And I paid £60 for the two of us, including drinks. It's exactly what a Scottish restaurant should be - local food prepared with fair bit of skill and letting the ingredients shine through. My starter was a "Stornoway Stack", black pudding, haggis, tattie scone and a poached egg, plus bits of bacon and a slightly syrupy sauce offsetting the inherent saltiness. Main course was loin of venison with asparagus, black pudding ravioli and a fantastic caramelised red cabbage. Dessert was deep fried ice cream which had been timed to perfection and seemed to be rolled in oats.So if you break the ingredients down it was a full Scottish breakfast, roast dinner, and porridge. Quintissentially Scottish, but done fine dining style. Can't imagine I'd have gone wrong with the rest of the menu either, which include loads of seafood, including a lobster thermidor.Service was casual but friendly, the whole place was elegant without trying too hard, and the drinks range had clearly been thought out - limited, but with very decent beers, wines and spirits.Honestly, I wouldn't have felt ripped off by paying more than twice as much in a posh Edinburgh restaurant.So....criticisms...This is a personal point, but could restaurants PLEASE SERVE FOOD ON PLATES?! Yes, I know, it's trendy to use a piece of slate, but it makes me want to pop outside and see if the roof is covered in crockery. And hey, it was only the starter, but it may explain why the poached egg wasn't runny. If trendy service styles get in the way of a runny yolk or a load of gravy then something is wrong ;)But that's a minor niggle. That's me turning into a grumpy old man as I approach 40. It's certainly not enough to stop me giving the place a hefty big five stars, and given the modest guest-house exterior, this place really needs to be shouted about.

I was part of a group and was the first to arrive, then spent about 6 minutes standing around. I wasn't welcomed at first, had not idea where I was supposed to go but eventually a girl came and said I could wait in the sitting room. The rest of the party arrived shortly afterwards and we were shown to our dimly lit table. Yes I understand about ambience but I do like to see what I'm eating. We had mostly pre-ordered and the starter came reasonably quickly, unfortunately the precarious arrangement of a glass on a plate being passed over to me meant that ended up with a lapful of melon balls. I was asked if I would like another plate (surely the answer is obvious) and a few minutes later another glass of melon balls was brought. Unfortunately the scoop of berry sorbet had melted to a puddle of goo on the original plate. Oh well, whatever they had dressed the melon with tasted fine. The young girl serving our table didn't seem very accomplished. The rest of the party enjoyed their starters, and the main courses were fine. Then we waited. And waited. We were ready to hunt down a server when another of the serving staff who was not on our table noticed our plight and came to help. More desserts were ordered and when they came were miniscule and disappointing. A couple of squares of Jamaica Ginger cake dropped artistically on a puddle of cream was NOT what that guest was expecting and given the expense was a liberty. There was no opportunity to complain as there were no serving staff in our dingy corner. The older (and clearly very efficient while being cheerful and helpful) lady was working in the other end of the restaurant by now. About half an hour after serving the dessert the young girl came to take the order for coffee.Another annoying thing was the absence of anything remotely interesting on the non-alcoholic drinks menu. It continues to surprise me that restaurants that have extensive and interesting wine list provide only Coke, Diet Coke and Irn Bru on the non-alcholic section ... ooh high excitement, they had Appletise!I won't be back

A group of us visited The Park for an evening meal as it had been recommended to us.I was not staying in the place so cannot comment on the accommodation.Firstly the restaurant needs a damned good clean, cobwebs and filthy windows do not make for pleasant surroundings.Secondly the waiting staff need training, support, instruction or dismissal.Rarely have I come upon a group of individuals so ill in formed about their products. The prices they charge suggest a level of cooking, service and ambiance on a par with some pretty decent places. If they want to continue charging that sort of money then someone needs to up their game as the meal I had was not worth the money I paid.I had the tartlet for the main course, the filling of which was perfectly acceptable, but the pastry would have made a nice beer mat.At the end of my meal I was ready to go and find somewhere to eat and get a drink.
